Very nice hike to the top of Tunnel Mountain. There are some spots to park your car on the road, just close to the trail entrance. The track is not difficult, but can be exhausted for elder.

This was a terrific hike. We stayed at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge, and walked 15 minutes down the road to the trailhead. The trail is basically a switch back, going back and forth with gentle inclines. This is great for beginners and those who are a little more challenged. Do make sure that you wear decent hiking shoes as there are plenty of loose rocks heading up the hills.

Lovely family-friendly hike that would have been a great warm-up hike for us at the start of our trip (as opposed to Ha Ling Peak, which was a harrowing endeavor in contrast). We had some issues with parking as Tunnel Mountain Drive was closed for Melissa’s Road Race on the day we did our climb but ultimately figured it out and easily made it to the top for sweeping views of the Banff area, Mount Rundle and the Cascade Mountain.

Great hike up this mountain. There's a bit of unstable ground (rocks and tree roots) that you'll need to look out for. Make sure you have good hiking shoes (no Crocs/sandals). Lots of active people running up and down the mountain. Parking is limited at the mid-point. Lots of cyclists riding though, so ensure you drive carefully.

We hiked Tunnel Mountain Summit for the first time and were truly amazed! The views are stunning, and the trail is well-maintained with a pleasant mix of rock and soft pine needles. It’s an easy, enjoyable hike—perfect for burning some calories while soaking in the scenery. The trail can get busy, as it draws visitors from all over, but it’s absolutely worth it. A real hidden gem in Banff, and so conveniently close to the trailer court. We’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Beautiful hike up to the top. Snowed recently so trail is snow-covered and slightly slippery in some spots

We loved this hike but I wouldn’t say it was “easy.” While we saw many younger people stride by us, the steep switchbacks were very much felt in our knees and the trip down was a lot of strain on our knees but we loved it. The views from the top of this 5,532 ft mountain were spectacular and you can see all of Banff town center, the Fairmont, beautiful Bow River and more. At one point in the trail you are almost parallel to an adjacent mountain and it’s very exciting to be that close. They have two Adirondack chairs at the top. No washrooms so be sure to go before your hike.

Tunnel Mountain is one of my favorite spots in Banff! The hike to the summit is relatively easy, making it perfect for all skill levels, including families and casual hikers. The trail winds through beautiful forested areas before opening up to stunning panoramic views of Banff, the Bow Valley, and surrounding peaks like Mount Rundle. I love sitting at the top and just taking in the scenery—it’s peaceful and rejuvenating. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from downtown Banff, so you can enjoy nature without venturing far from town.
