This hotel is centrally located to the Downtown area of Lisbon. It is super close to restaurants and gift shops. It's 2 blocks away from the square. It's also close to a street that's closed off to traffic and just has restaurants and shops for 5-7 blocks.
We actually came early and could not check in until 3pm. They were nice enough to hold our baggage for us while we roamed the area for lunch. They were a bit slow in the check in process. I wouldn't mind that so much, but it was so freakin hot in the lobby. They didn't bother turning on the A/C. I know it was 60 degrees outside, but you want to make sure that your customers are comfortable when they walk in. Especially if they have been flying all day and sweating and stinky. I was hoping that the lobby was cool and when I walk in, I would be refreshed. But it wasn't, so I ended up sitting outside until it was my turn to check in. There is a bar right there that has happy hour running from 5-8pm.
As for the staff, they were all great. They were responsive and tried their best to get you checked in. They were even nice enough to take our luggage to our room because our room was part of the new wing and there were stairs involved. We were showed how everything worked in the room. That was a nice touch.
I like the fact that the shower had a sliding door that closes so you don't get the floors all wet like our hotel in Barcelona. I still don't understand why hotels in Europe do not have curtains or just have that half glass that will not do any good in keeping the floors dry. One thing that I noticed is that the room was on the warm side. After playing with the different combinations of the switches, it was still just blowing warm air. I left the balcony door open to let the cool air in, but I do not want to keep this open at night because I don't know if someone next door would just climb over into ours. So I asked the staff downstairs and I was told that since it was still considered Winter weather, they have not turned on the A/C yet. Again, I do not understand why European hotels are so cheap when it comes to this. Your customers are paying top Euros to stay at your property. The least you can do is make sure they are safe and comfortable.
One thing I have to mention is that the hallway lights are motion sensored. So when you leave your room, the hallway will be totally dark. The only lights you will see is the Exit sign. Again, I know the owner is trying to save money, but someone can really get hurt walking in the hallway. Or worse yet, someone fall off the stairs because they didn't see it there.
The hallway as had a stench to it that reminded me of crabs for some reason. I can't say that it smelled bad, but it was not pleasant.
Even though I have touched on some of the negatives, the hotel itself is pretty nice and very convenient to everything. I would definitely stay here again
