Yelp
I was so disappointed with the recent service here. I was in here a few months ago and the salesman was only somewhat pushy, but not overly. This time, however was different.
My boyfriend and I are searching for my engagement ring. Since I hate diamonds, I want to find a funky unique turquoise ring. So we headed down to Santa Fe/Taos to search. After not finding anything in Taos that was perfect, we came to Santa Fe- I remembered Turquoise Trail from last time and knew they had some unique creations and large selection of rings.
Turquoise Trail was our first stop, and I was sure we'd find something here. The first salesman didn't even ask what we were looking for, just started pulling out cases and holding them up to my fingers. He chastised me for trying on a men's ring and said how silly it looked (hey the funkier the better). I didn't see anything that popped out at me, so we headed for the door. This is when the nightmare started.
Another salesman (owner, perhaps?) blocked me from leaving and pulled out another case of rings and shoved them in my face. As he was showing them to me, the first Salesman who had previously "helped" me, stood with his arms crossed a few feet away, glaring at me. I'm sure they work on commission so it was super awkward- they were fighting like wolves to make a sale. Not exactly the place I want to give my service to.
Granted, he did pull out a pretty ring and I tried it on. But I was expecting to have that A-ha moment like, "This is definitely it!" And sparks didn't fly. I had it on my finger kind of admiring it. This guy took advantage of my hesitation and started hassling me, "Come on, you're not going to find this anywhere else- one of a kind, one of a kind." I just wasn't in love with it and wanted to look elsewhere. "What's the problem," he barked, "Price to much?" Umm no, it was not dude- but I don't want my engagement ring to be a hasty decision. He offered to knock about $300 off for it- and claimed that I wasn't going to find anything else I liked anywhere. It was so rude and demeaning- we aren't looking for a "cheap" ring- just something that suits me and I feel proud to wear.
I almost burst into tears right there because I was already frustrated with feeling picky and not finding anything, and then his extremely patronizing demeanor made me feel so low. My boyfriend stood up and said, "Okay we're going to leave now- Thanks for your time." And the guy slammed the rings back in the case and sarcastically said, "Yeah have a greeaaat day."
I'm sad to say it put such a damper on the rest of the afternoon to the point I was nervous about asking other stores to even get the rings out of the case- I didn't want to waste their "precious time." Luckily we found a local artist who will craft the exact ring I want (go to Jett's Gallery- he will take care of you).
Please, do NOT support this place. They don't care about you- they're only hoping to make a quick sale and get you out the door.
