I absolutely loved this hotel. We’ve traveled extensively — Patagonia, Vietnam, Madagascar and more — and Turtagro has been one of my top places to stay for a few reasons.||It has an incredibly unique location right outside Jotunheimen National Park, which is mostly frequented by Norwegian tourists instead of American tourists like us. I’m so happy we stayed 5 nights here compared to the more touristy areas in the west.||We stayed on the top floor of the lodge with stunning views of the landscape and were comfortable at night in July/August with the windows open. Dinner and breakfast are both incredibly tasty, especially dinner. (We are spoiled for options living in NYC so account for that with this review.) ||We also loved the communal sitting areas both inside and out, which were delightful to sit with a beer after a hike . ||Pro Tips|1) bring your own preferred ear plugs and eye mask. We opened the windows at night because we like to sleep in the cool and had to use ear plugs to block out the people / sheep bells :) The sun also sets late and rises early so an eye mask is essential though they provide one, too.||2) the bathroom is what you would expect from a mountaineering hotel so bring shampoo/conditioner if you want something more than liquid soap.||3) if you believe that you are an expert American hiker, you are likely not by Norweigen standards. :) if a Norwegian recommends an easy hike, I would add at least 2 hours to your time. ||I saw some people mention that dinner is pricey. Our POV is likely somewhat skewed from living in NYC but a) it’s Norway and b) it really is such a high quality three-course meal while being waited on. I also like the ability to talk to other groups of people if you’re open to it but they also sit people spaced far enough apart that if you’re not interested.
