Nice little breakfast, lunch spot...Good coffee... Easy parking on the street. Clean and quiet. Comfortable seating. Good food and desserts. Recommend a $6. quiche if you're not too hungry or regular breakfast $12 to $13, I usually get the turtle benedict or the salmon scramble. If you get the soup-go for a bowl $7.49 over a cup $6.49… only $1 more…a lot bigger.

Turtle Bread is a true neighborhood establishment. I love to come after neighborhood events, and I really feel like I’m part of the community when I stop by. The coffee is great, and every dish I’ve tried has been excellent. Their crispy potatoes are wonderful. I love that they have counter service and plenty of seating. Such a great brunch spot!

Google
So delicious and made from scratch. My Denver Omelette was AMAZING. Never knew a place like this existed. Everyone is friendly and happy. Orders are completed quickly and brought directly to your table. Employees work hard to take care of everyone and everything. The breads and pastries look amazing. I can’t even count the number of raisins in the cinnamon raisin roll. The icing was yummy. So glad everyone recycles and the guests are actually cleaning up after themselves. Highly recommend for breakfast in Minneapolis

I'm not sure how long they've been here, probably a hot minute but i live the return of the neighborhood bakery. Burn in hell dr. Adkins.

Google
The food is always good. The pastries are fresh and fantastic. When I’ve gone, They’ve been pretty busy but you can always find a table. And they have great outdoor seating.

Google
A little of a disappointment compared to the other Turtle Bread on Chicago. Pancakes were not as tasty. Bland. The pancakes at the Chicago locations were amazing. These were disappointing. Latte had no flavor. $1 extra for syrup $1 for alternative milk Chocolate Chip Cookie not worth $2.75. Just a normal cookie maybe worth a dollar. The venue itself was good. I liked the location and service was good. Just disappointed on the food and coffee

Google
Great café for a quick bite, dessert, or coffee. They have plenty of options for breakfast and lunch with a wide variety of sweets and breads. This is a great stop to pick up food for a picnic or summer lunch.

This is one of my favorites in St. Paul. The food is always good, and the selection is neither too small nor overwhelming. Recently, I had the chocolate bread, which was delicious toasted. GREAT place to go to get some work done for an hour or two.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite place to buy a pie for the holidays!! This place is an absolute gem, and is filled with lovely staff and good vibes all around I love their breakfast menu, and the pastries are over the moon delicious! Make this your next breakfast date!

Yelp
I was craving pancakes for breakfast this morning and these literally hit the spot! I ordered the buttermilk pancakes, eggs over hard, and an iced vanilla latte. Everything was so good! The vibe is a mix of restaurant, bakery, and coffee shop. I brought my laptop with me and worked from here for a bit. The staff were super friendly and helpful! The bakery was very clean. I've come here in the past for their tomato basil soup before and ordered a to-go container as well! So good! Highly recommend!

Yelp
It's soup, sandwiches and salads. Food is fine. It's mostly assembled and brought out to you after you order it. At the register you are prompted for a 22, 21, or 19 percent tip. The staff isn't the most helpful, you bus your own dishes, get your own coffee, ask for more coffee when the coffee is out. It is an underwhelming experience to eat here.

Yelp
Not a bad place for getting coffee, pastries and meeting up with anyone. It is a big space inside, and it is not that always busy I think. I was there a couple times to their mocha with oat milk and some muffins.

Yelp
I came here looking for a good sourdough baguette. When I got there, I realized how hungry I was, so I got the smoked salmon omelette. The omelette was very good and came out in a timely manner. The baguette I got was reasonably priced, and it was quite good too. I ended up making croutons with it.

Yelp
Lovely neighborhood bakery. Stopped by with a friend for soup and salad and wasn't disappointed. Plenty of seating inside, but it does tend to get loud. The soup was very hearty, think chicken pot pie without the crust, and perfect for the weather. The quiche was ... not my favorite. I'm not a big fan of the cheese and the base, I felt one or the other could be more decadent. The accompanied side salad was fresh and a worthy up-charge. Definitely a great spot to hang out and chat with a friend if you live in the area, but not worth a trek if otherwise.

Yelp
Wow...what a disappointing experience I had yesterday. My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast burritos - mine being the one they've always had on the menu for $12.50 with veggie sausage, and his being the new one they're offering with chorizo. We told the person at the register we wanted to sub the potatoes the burritos come with with sweet potato fries and she still went ahead and charged us $8 extra ($4 each) for a side of sweet potato fries...and we didn't even get the side that usually comes with the meal. I also bought my usual coffee. It all came out to $38 which felt like a lot (we frequent this location). When I went to ask for my money back, everyone was clueless and they gave me $6 back in cash. I was never handed a receipt and really didn't appreciate the lack of transparency. Another thing that ticked me off is that there was no way of differentiating at first which burrito was meatless and which was chorizo, which matters to me because I'm Muslim and cannot eat pork. When I asked the server, they said "I don't know", left us, and never checked with anyone. I had to walk up and find out myself which one had pork and which one didn't, which was super shitty in my opinion. Way to accommodate people with different backgrounds. Shoutout to the cooks in the back who saved y'alls asses because the food was spectacular (as always). But I'd recommend hiring better new staff - these folks were rude, clueless, and killed the vibe. Won't be coming back until this is resolved by management.

Yelp
Horrible service, mediocre food, if you want to be rude to customers at least have the food to back up the claim

Yelp
I've been to Turtle Bread Co a few times over the past few months and I really want to like it but unfortunately the food has been a little hit or miss for me. The first time I was there I got a plain croissant and mocha. Both were pretty disappointing. The croissant was really dry and didn't have a flaky texture and they forgot to put the espresso shots in my mocha so it ended up being just a hot chocolate. The second time I had the chocolate cake which was very good and I HIGHLY recommend. The third time I had the breakfast sandwich with sausage, a side salad, and Mexican brownie. The breakfast sandwich was okay -the bun was really good but the rest was a little lackluster. The brownie was very dry, but the frosting was good. Overall the service and atmosphere is good. I'll go back again because I really want to try a loaf of their bread and a few more baked goods.

Yelp
They do make a decent slice of bread, and their quiche was pretty good. They are a bit on the pricey side though, service is so-so.

Yelp
What a delicious brunch place. Great environment. Kind staff. Do your part and clean up after yourself! Put your sauces away too! I can literally sit here for hours sipping on coffee and just chit-chat.
google avatar

Yelp
Solid. Make a good latte, the apple macadamia muffins are worth the trip alone, and the vibe from the customers is positive. Feels like a real neighborhood joint. Only knock is the staff are a bit standoffish. Like, I don't need a hug, but there is not much feel you get from them other than your existence creates work for them. Been here about three times now to meet a colleague for a project, and I'm happy to come back. Though it feels like the staff are not as happy to see me.

Yelp
Good soup, great bakery, meh coffee but NO INTERNET. My cell can't even access 5G in this dead zone. Not a place to work.

Yelp
I really like this place. Super friendly, fast, have a nice variety. While I don't think it has the BEST bakery goods they are in fact "good" haha. Overall they are a great place to have in the community and have all the makings of a solid bakery.

Nina P.

Yelp
Fast, easy, delicious! This was my first time trying the breakfast sandwich and I was not disappointed. It was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend adding chicken sausage- wow! Ordering was very easy and straightforward, and we waited less than 5 minutes for our order to be ready despite it being a busy Saturday morning.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Super poor customer experience. My order was incorrectly posted as eat in when it was take out. Same person throughout the entire experience insisted that I had said eat in. No it's take out. She boxed the order for take out tossed it onto counter without looking at me or thanking me. Very expensive food very haughty customer experience.

Yelp
Turtle Bread Company is very consistent and a good place to check out for baked goods, breakfast, or lunch. The bread is great and I have only been disappointed on one occasion in which my chocolate croissant was slightly over cooked. Even with my underwhelming chocolate croissant, I've been happy with the selection and quality of the pastries. On the same occasion I was disappointed by a croissant, I also ordered a smoked salmon scramble that was not only a huge portion, but flavorful and complex. They also give the option of potatoes or salad. My iced American was also flavorful and relatively inexpensive. They have a wonderful selection of food and pastries, and service is always warm and friendly. If you're in the neighborhood and looking for an easy/healthy/moderately priced breakfast joint, or you're in the mood for a freshly baked loaf of bread or pastry, I would check out Turtle Bread.

Yelp
Go for the pie, stay for lunch. Turtle bakery make a wonderful pie. We especially like the Apple. The crust is amazing. We pick up a whole pie for special occasions. Recently my daughter and granddaughter and I went for lunch and were very pleased with our choices. I had the Southwest salad which was one of the specials of the day. It has crispy chicken peas and tortilla strips with tasty greens. The Rueben was good and not overly stuffed with meat as you find some places. The yeasty pancake was yummy. We grabbed bread and a tasty ginger cookie on the way out. The space is comfortable and busy at lunch but not loud or overcrowded. Only down side was sweet potato fries which seemed to be frozen waffle fries. I suggest they add another station to bus dishes. A long line formed the day we were there.

Yelp
Still eating my way through Minneapolis. We decided to have pie. I ordered pecan and my husband ordered cherry. We shared. Talk about good! I haven't eating pecan pie in 10 years due to the calories. I'm glad I gave in today and ordered it. The crust for both was flakey. The cherries weren't overly tart. The pecan slice was full of pecans. Yum! Will be back!

Yelp
Breakfast time huevos rancheros and hot chocolate on a cold morning. Great food at a decent price. I had to get a cookie before i leave...they sell by the dozen. They serve breakast until 2:30 for those late day startets like myself.

Yelp
I've only been to this location to buy bread. Got a baguette and a big round loaf of sourdough and they were both excellent. When you walk in, there are big displays of bread piled up and you pick what you want and pay. I really appreciate that they have the bread sitting out unwrapped. It's a major turnoff for me to go into a bakery and see all their bread sealed up in plastic bags... It always makes me think it'll be soft and soggy or stale. Not the case at Turtle Bread!!! Decent looking food menu, they have pie dough and housemade frozen pizzas for sale, lots of pastries. Street parking, but there seems to be plenty available.
google avatar

Yelp
I order the bran muffins that come in from the Chicago Ave bakery. They are terrific as are their other baked goods. Bran muffins are very hard to find elsewhere.
google avatar

Yelp
Having driven by this place for months on our way to Blue Door, we decided to give it a try on a Saturday for brunch. You are greeted by several displays of breads, cookies, muffins, and assorted pastries. Full meal counter service is available if you can successfully make it past the fresh-baked treats. They have a ton of specials (not sure how often they rotate) as well as some staple items. I opted for the 4205 breakfast sandwich on their homemade potato roll. The service was very fast and the restaurant was moderately busy, I'd say, for a Saturday at noon. The food was very good, tasted homemade and fresh, and of course their bread is tasty! Other restaurants in the 'hood (see: Blue Door & Hi-Lo) use their buns. All in all, this was a very cozy place with good food. Will be back!

Yelp
Perfect breakfast/brunch spot. Great for dates, and studying too. I love the breakfast sandwich or the veggie omelet. They both are delicious. They have big windows for snowy days. I tend to come here when I'm not in a rush and want to enjoy my meal and the atmosphere of the place.

Hayao M.

Yelp
Love this place! The cherry and raspberry pie slices are delicious! So are the breads including chocolate bread & striato rolls. The bug peanut butter and chocolate chunk cookie is my fav. It's not too crispy or soft, the perfect in between. I miss the salmon scramble and hope they bring it back.
google avatar

Yelp
when you increase your bakery goods by 30% to offset the increased minimum wage for your employees AND serve STALE products (e.g. chewy croissants) shame on you. There are other fantastic options in the neighborhood like Savory Bakery and Dogwood -consistently fresh and delicious!!
google avatar

Yelp
I want to like TB, but the food always lets me down. I've already given up on their pizzaria, which always screwed up my orders. I've, also, given up in their ice cream shop, which serves up overpriced and nothing-special ice cream. Now, I've given up in their bakery. They sold me a stale-ass croissant yet again last week. I know croissants, and that thing from TB was hardly fresh. I wish Patisserie 46 was right around the corner like TB.
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
I love that they are in the my neighborhood and in theory this should be my go-to place for pastries and bread. I went to TB on Sunday late afternoon. There wasn't much of a bread selection so I asked the girl at the counter what she recommended for bread as my favorite type of bread, sourdough was gone. Her response was "hmm. I don't know". "o.k. so what is your favorite type a bread?" I asked. Then she says "Well I don't know what to tell you, I don't eat bread...we're about to close so this is what is left...a lot of people buy the champagne bread". +2 good products and location -1 for the unhelpful service -1 for not clearly posting their hours -1 for not selling discounted day old bread

Nelle A.

Yelp
IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ: The kitchen is open 7:30am-2:30pm, so if you're coming for a hot dish besides soup or quiche, come during this time.
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
I have gone here several times over the past few months and have been extremely impressed with the breakfast food. My wife and I usually go rather early (between 9-11am), and the service gas always been great: plenty of seating without feeling empty, food comes out quickly, nice people, etc. The portions are large too. With most entrees ranging from $9-11, I was pleasantly surprised that they came with greens/potatoes and a slice of toast. Very happy to have this in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Armando S.

Yelp
I rarely get annoyed in restaurants but today's annoyance seems more than justified. It's bad enough that I was presented with only one gluten-free option, but when my breakfast finally came, there was a huge piece of what looked like sourdough bread on top. This, after I made it painfully clear that I have celiac issues. So, when the waitress asked if I would like a new dish, I felt bad and not only told her that a new dish wasn't necessary, but I let her just grab the bread right off the plate! I then asked for a tortilla substitute only to be told that I would have to be charged. Believe me, it wasn't the money, but my breakfast was ruined and their solution was to make me walk all the way up to the register and pay for a tortilla - this place makes you pay for meals before ordering. One would think that since I just saved your business from having to remake an entire breakfast, and because it was their screw-up, to begin with, the least a customer who just paid $28.00 could get, is a lousy tortilla. A tortilla, something that cost $0.05 to produce and $0.10 to purchase! This is not a customer service issue, it's a complete lack of consideration issue. At this point, the quality of the food and taste don't even matter. My experience was pretty much shot when this happened so my breakfast basically became the equivalent of throwing $28.00 out of the car window! Needless to say, I will never go to this, or any Turtle Bread location again. (Monday 06/03/2019 9:30 am)

Yelp
This a review of the breakfast: I definitely would steer clear. I had an veggie omelet with toast and breakfast potatoes on the side. Veggie omelet was substandard, overcooked flimsy veggies and the potatoes might as well come out of a bag in the freezer. I'm not trying to bash but just don't expect anything - you can make a better breakfast at home or heck even head to Perkins. The only redeeming factor was the jam. Atmosphere - This location was a little too hectic and nosy for me for a Saturday morning breakfast. Something about the space makes all the sounds echo and bounce.

Emily G.

Yelp
I made a yelp account just to review Turtle bread because my experience here was so good! The food and baked goods alike were fantastic. Really I cannot say that I've ever had a sandwich and fries quite as good as what I had here. Service was also amazing, everyone was very friendly and very respectful of COVID-19 safety protocol, which I really appreciate. I would reccomend for Turtle Bread Co to anyone and everyone for breakfast, lunch, baked goods, and everything in between.
google avatar

Matthew K.

Yelp
Business takes me to Longfellow pretty frequently, and in turn Turtle Bread has become a convenient spot to stop in for some coffee and baked goods. The pastries are really excellent. Danishes, muffins, croissants, and scones are all delicious and fresh made. The coffee is nothing to write home about, but its not bad either and certainly not "gas station" coffee. Cooked to order breakfasts are decent, but probably a little expensive for what you get. And even if the counter staff isn't overly attentive, they're always pleasant and helpful. Atmosphere is great, with plenty of seating including some comfy booths that are great for a little more private coffee and conversation. I wouldn't call it a destination for brunch or coffee, but still a satisfying place to stop for a mid-morning break or a coffee meeting in the area.

Yelp
Why do so many bakeries serve terrible coffee? I do not know, but I do know that I would add Turtle Bread to this list. I had an almond croissant and the ladyfriend had one of their hot-cross buns (which is why we went). We both had coffee. My croissant was very dry and encrusted with a surplus of almonds. It had the benefit of being filling, but I didn't find myself thinking anything to the effect of, "hot damn! that's a good croissant!" the way that a really good almond croissant can do. I tried a bite of the bun and I agree that the flavors were good. And did I mention the terrible coffee? First of all, it tastes like something you might get at a gas station. This sense is only augmented by the STYROFOAM cups. In their defense, you can choose to use a ceramic mug, but unfortunately this does not make the coffee taste like it didn't come from Super America. There were also only styrofoam plates for our baked goods as well as plastic cutlery, which is a shame because they have a really beautiful space that ends up feeling like something between a gas station and a dining hall.

Yelp
I live VERY close to this place and I've been dying for it to open for some time. It finally has and it pretty much has lived up to my expectation. First, I love being able to take a 5 minute walk and get some of the best bread in the cities. We have been buying bread there about every other day. I love bread and so the more of it the better. With Turtle Bread so close, it's like being in heaven. The lunch is great too. My only complaint is that it is a little pricey for what it is. Nonetheless the selections are tasty and the service is improving fast for being a place that opened just a month or so ago. You can't really go wrong: Lunch, pastries, bread...they're all very good. The only real significant negative is that they are still just a bit too disorganized. I understand that they only opened recently, but we've had a bunch of 'Whoa, what is going on?' moments while there as a result of the disorganization. Once they get this all straightened out, it will definitely be a five star place.

Paul S.

Yelp
I love this place, but I have three ways to improve it: 1. Outlets! There are like three of them in the whole place. This is not 1936. Codes for houses now require one within ten feet. The easiest thing would be to start with some in the floor. 2. Put supports in the basement to tighten up the floor. The whole thing vibrates every time even a light person walks by. Just plain annoying. 3. Put up some stantions and/or signs for traffic management at the counter. It gets messy when things get busy and people don't know where to stand and order, etc.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick meal, and was not disappointed! Great sandwich on fantastic bread, great cold press, and great service!

Yelp
My destination was the new Blue Door Pub. We passed this place and I thought so that's where it is. It was definitely the destination after dinner. I like the layout, and there's plenty of seating compared to the one on Chicago. They also serve chocolate cream pie, of which I am a freak. It's so good looking, and huge. The best part was the crust, a normal white flour crust, and a beautiful pile of whipped cream. I wasn't crazy about the filling. It was way too stiff for a pie, it reminded me of the denseness of flourless chocolate cake. I was able to mix in whipped cream with every bite though. Between here and the pub you get 2 for 1 on this block.

Yelp
I visited Turtle Bread company with a friend of mine who had visited there several times. It was sort of a last minute decision because Patisserie 46 had closed. Seeing as how it was later in the day, they were out of a few things so I had to keep that in mind while thinking back on my experience. I definitely want to go back in the early afternoon and try it out again. The space is interesting. It's very open with lines of sight all the way to the back of the bakery area. The tables are big and the dining area itself is spacious. The girl who took my order at the counter was friendly. Street parking was easy. I had tea and a piece of chocolate cake. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I been there earlier in the day--the frosting was a little firm for my liking. But the taste of the cake was very good. I enjoyed the tea, as well... But I dont know how much credit to give there since you are simply given a selection of tea bags. Overall, I think 2.5 is probably the best score but because of the circumstances I think the more lenient 3 stars is fine until I can check it out again and try more things.

Yelp
I have been going to this turtle bread location for coffee and sometimes bakery items before my walk three or four times a week. There are some past reviews with which I can relate; I think that the hot food items and some of the deli items are pricey for what they are but delicious and the lay-out can get a little confusing when it's crowded. That being said I always get their potato roll and a coffee. There's to-go containers of raspberry jam that you can grab which makes a great on the go breakfast. Their soups are always excellent and they usually have around 5-6 options. They have little wedges of cheese for under $2 which you gan get to go with their breads. And I have never, ever had a bad pastry here. I can't say that it's my favorite bakery EVER but they hit my spot most always. Give their bakery a chance at least. Their chocolate rolls and savory bread are pretty remarkable.

Robert T.

Yelp
I like going for breakfast here and I always order the french toast which is consistently good. This time I am given fake syrup. They must of run out of the maple. Disappointment. Our table had not been wiped down. Since you do bus your own table probably best to do this yourself. I gave it 3 stars for the above. My wife gives it 4 since she enjoyed her order. That was evident as she quickly put out of mind the guy who pulled his false teeth out and placed them on the table. Should I have gone to Perkins instead?
google avatar

Jes M.

Yelp
There's really nothing to mention in the way of service here, not particularly friendly, but certainly not rude either. The presentation of the baked goods is their main point of differentiation-- it's a pretty impressive spread without actually being all that much in terms of quantity or variety. The baked goods are quite delicious. I cannot comment on the eggs, etc., as I skipped that route thanks to another Yelper's review. The space is CLEAN, albeit fairly austere. Tables, chairs, and booths-- pretty straight-forward. No cushy chair or private corner. I'll be back, but I won't go way out of my way.

Yelp
Lovely place. Service is great, the food is phenomenal and of course the bread is amazing. I was so happy to find that they sell pre made items and cheese. Great if you are having a last minute get together and need to pick up some party favors.

Betsy W.

Yelp
i agree with another reviewer on here. cute little place and what i tried was tasty. but the service is rather cold and unfriendly. not rude at all but not welcoming or friendly either .

Yelp
Great breakfast and coffee...and cupcakes...and lunch! They just need to add wine and they are golden!!!

Yelp
This location, a 2-minute walk from my front door, stood vacant for over 15 years according to my neighbors. We all looked forward to what was coming and I was thrilled to learn it was a bakery. The opening was painfully dragged out and with very little information available except to watch the progress from the outside. A huge contrast to The Blue Door Pub down the street which gave a clear opening date and immediately let the community in on what would be there! All that aside, it finally opened and Husband and I went in to see what was offered. That day I had undercooked quiche with a side of hair and the shock of a $30+ bill for the two of us to have a very simple, unsatisfying breakfast. Since then I have repeatedly tried to open-mindedly visit and continually have made excuses for the poor service and over-priced mediocrity. I have found they carry a Brie and make a chocolate roll I enjoy plus some darn indulgent cupcakes, but I have learned not to expect too much quality of the other food. Yesterday I stopped in to buy a Naked Juice before work. I waited behind one other person for 6 minutes and wasn't so much as greeted. People generally have places to get to when they are up at 7am and they aren't staffed well enough to serve 2 people at once!? At least a glance up to acknowledge my existence! Yeah, I'm sad to say this will stay on my last resort list until some obvious changes are made.

Yelp
Don't come if you're saving your nickels. Its spendy, but the pastries are top notch, they offer decent breakfast and lunch options, and the service is above average.

Marilyn M.

Yelp
I love the scholarly ambience of the place. Lots of wood. Photographs of on the walls. It is a peaceful, restful place, They make a lot of good things that I go there for specifically. At this time of year -- the pumpkin pie. It is the thickest, creamiest, tastiest in town. They also stock frozen pie crust dough which is very good and makes my pie baking a snap. Their soups are all good, especially the tomato basil. Their breads are great, of course, my favorite is the stirato.
