Nice quiet hotel in the historical center of Nikko. Very close to the shrines and temples of Nikko, and you can easily drive to the lake Chuzenji, different waterfalls and other nice nature places. The building itself is a bit old, so the rooms are chilly, but there in AC and a separate heater, and the beds have warm blankets. The bathroom inside the room is quite small with little space, but there are two common use baths inside the hotel that you can use privately. There is also a yukata that is given for your stay. The room itself is surprisingly spacious by japanese standards. We got the room in the corner so had a nice view on the river and trees right from the room. There is a big dining room with free tea, instant coffee, hot water, cups and utensils; you can order breakfast or just come eat your own food. There is a common fridge that all the guests can share. The hotel has coin laundry (recommended to use before 9pm), but the drier is very, very slow, so we ended up going to the separate coin laundry in the city. The owners are very friendly and even gave us small gifts when we were departing! Overall, great base to go to Nikko adventures!

Very quiet and comfy ryokan. They have onsen and give every visitor a yukata for the stay (it’s not a gift, don’t forget to leave it in the room ;) The location may seem to be far from the center of the town and the shrines (even the walk to the closest bus station may take 10-15 minutes)

Very friendly staff. They give you recommendations on nearby restaurants and which places to visit at what times. Nice and relatively big rooms. Very clean. Fly screens in front of the windows, no problem with insects. Two private onsen that can be locked from the inside. Breakfast has to be booked and payed seperately and is more European style but with local ingredients. Delicious nonetheless.

A simple local inn with some nice traditional touches. Some sensible restaurant options nearby. Definitely a good option if you're staying in Nikko.

Honestly we had the best time at this turtle inn. Loved the traditional room, and the amenities were always perfectly clean. Great location for exploring the quieter parts of Nikko. Great friendly staff. Don’t come expecting luxury (as this is an inn), but you will have an enjoyable experience. Also the onsen is amazing. Did not try the food as there are many food options nearby.

The host is very friendly and provided plenty of suggestions for nearby attractions. They were also very thoughtful in sharing dinner recommendations in the area. The accommodation is conveniently located close to Toshogu Shrine and other attractions, all within walking distance. Of course, the room is very clean and comfortable, and you can even enjoy a bath. The accommodation has many adorable collections inside!

Me and my husband stayed together here while on Intrepid tour. Very happy to experience traditional Japanese ryokan. Private onsen was wonderful, especially after a big day out walking. Plus in the room there are traditional yukata you can wear to the onsen. There are nearby restaurant options if you want, or there is a communal fridge, freezer and microwave. With a supermarket 5 minutes walk. Very lovely place

Absolutely lovely staff. Really kind and sweet. The place has an excellent location: in walking distance from all sights in the middle of the good stuff. (10min from temples, 10min from bridge and still 10min from the amazing + quiet little hike to the gorge, with few tourists there). Rooms are simple and the place is a bit older, but at a great price. We booked last minute and other hotels were 50-100% more expensive. Each room has their own sink, there’s more than enough toilets + also extra separate sinks. Breakfast was very tasty (fruit, drinks, juice, and 3 thick slices of buttered toast and jam). Highlight: the two private onsen, available to use without added costs from 15-23h and 5.30-9.30am. I worried we might have to wait in line, but they were available almost all the time. Simply switch the sign to ‘occupied’ and it’s all yours. The owner was adorable.
