Tuthilltown Spirits Distillery

Signed up for a tour for us and two visiting friends, and it was only the four of us on a Saturday in September. The tour guide was excellent, fielding all of our questions and teaching us a lot about the history and process there. The tasting is perfect when you still have to drive home: each person picks 6 liquors, and they come in small capped bottles. You can sample them there in the tasting room or take them home. Very fun to visit for the tour, but will be back just to go to the bar and get food from the taco truck!

Personally I'm not much of a spirits drinker outside cocktails but we brought some friends here that were visiting. We did the tour and tasting and I highly recommend it - just be sure to get a "walktail" to take along. After the walk around the grounds we went to the bar and had our tasting. You get a free glass to take home too. The bar itself is oozing with charm and the staff are all great. Plenty of options to buy whiskies, Bourbon, gin and more as well. There was a taco truck in the small front side parking if you're looking for a bite to eat and seating outdoors to enjoy it along the river side.

My girlfriend and I came for the distillery tour and had a great time. Phil and Quinn were very knowledgeable and funny. We would definitely come back!

Phil and Quinn were amazing! We did a tasting and a few drinks as well as had great conversation. Such a cool spot and wonderful atmosphere.

Loved the tour and the bar! Everyone was warm and welcoming. I’m not a whiskey drinker but I learned the difference (in knowledge and taste!) of bourbon vs rye. The flight is really cute, comes in little vials and a glass that you can take home.

What better thing to do when the wind chill factor tries to keep you indoor than to visit a distillery. Enjoyed a few hours at Tuthilltown Distillery and the 7 samples I tried in the tasting room. I ended up with 2 bottles that I couldn’t walk away from and some gifts (shot glasses) generously given to us by the staff. The staff were welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable. Do plan to return for the tour provided once the weather is better. Until then, have my 2 bottles to have at home…

Thanks to local friends , found this hidden gem! This is like a little piece of Kentucky , in NY! Amazing staff , shout out to Rachel for taking care of us and making the experience epic! Amazing tastings and the ambience was on point! Will coming back when their 7 year is back in stock! ✌🏽

These folks do some great bourbons and ryes. Their specially bottles like sherry cask finished bourbon or peated rye are delicious, really well executed whiskeys. The tasting room is beautiful, the outdoor seating is so relaxing, and when Rye the distillery cat makes an appearance you know it's going to be a good day. The staff were all very friendly. They do some really different but delicious cocktails at the bar.

Went for my first time in years and it's under new ownership, and a bit different of a vibe, but great still. They don't serve food but they have a food truck outside. Inside, service was great and drinks were made quickly and at a good price. I had a beet vodka drink and a rocket pop lemonade. I was happy with my drinks. What really makes the is place though is the outdoor area. You can sit and watch the water. It was not that busy when I was there and it was so tranquil. I will be back to get more drinks and probably some apple vodka.

Wonderful staff. Beautiful location. Informative tour. Clean. Bar interior has great ambiance. What a hidden surprise. Highly recommend.

Our last hurrah in the area. We were here at noon on Friday. It was their blueberry themed day. Our server is one of the usuals and she rrecognized us! Service was smooth and efficient. We wanted some food and are thankful for the food truck in the parking lot. It was pretty calm today and we were happy to end our travel with this stop.

Cute old distillery! We just stopped in after visiting nearby Benmarl Winery. The rep.Liz mentioned the historic house dates back to (If I heard correctly) "1788" (Wowza!) The house does look very old from the outside. In addition, there's a Taco Truck in front of the distillery. The tacos were pretty good. The distillery had outside seating area by a creek. I've never done a whiskey flight. The Hudson Valley whisky flight for 6 vials was about $20. It was extra $3.00 for a the 7 year old whisky sample. The 7 year old was my favorite. It had a nice smooth taste!. During our visit, we met the house cat "Bourbon". He appeared very relaxed. We did go home with souvenir glasses. A small parking area is available on the grounds.

My girlfriend and I came here for a quick whiskey tasting, and we enjoyed ourselves very much. Our bartender (forgot her name, but she was lovely) was extremely knowledgeable and helped guide us into choosing the 6 spirits we could try. We ended up doing 3 and 3 and sharing the vials. You also get complimentary rocks glasses. We had a fun experience trying the spirits but what really made us enjoy the place was the specialty cocktails they have, and the personalities of the employees. Everyone working there was so friendly and welcoming and we felt right at home. I wish I had written down the names of the drinks we had, but one of them was like a breakfast cocktail in terms of taste (bacon, pancakes, maple syrup, and even had a whole egg in it as well). The other was one with ginger beer and apple vodka. We loved both of our drinks. They tasted fantastic and had beautiful presentation. This place was lovely overall. Again, as much as we liked our tasting, it was the interaction with the employees and the cocktails that really stood out. The ambiance of the bar added to that. It was clean, quiet, and relaxing. Next time we plan to do the full tour of the distillery, which we didn't have time to do that day. Definitely check them out!

We did the Cocktails 101 class and it was really a great experience. It was well organized, well presented, informative not to mention FUN!

Wow- amazing place for having a leisurely afternoon tasting. You can order a flight to taste but they come in tubes you can actually bring home to taste later along with a cup from them. Ordered an old fashioned from the bar and it did not disappoint. All the staff was so friendly and gave suggestions as to what to order, when one drink was not liked, they immediately made something else, no problems. They have a nice selection of things to buy from local vendors like some really great chocolates along with their spirits.

We visit here a few times a year from Long Island. The staff is always pleasant and the drinks delicious. However, this time when we checked out, we learned we couldn't leave a tip on the card and that the servers could only receive cash tips. We rarely have cash in this day and age. I don't know many people who do. Needless to say, we couldn't leave a tip which was beyond embarrassing for us since we are big tippers. I even asked if there was an ATM machine or if we could Venmo them. No, we could not.

Didn't get a chance to eat there but the spirits are world class and the staff was delightful. They helped us choose the right bottles to take with us on our way to Wildflower Farms and they even discounted what we bought because apparently they have a partnership. Inside it's amazing to look at - given they were previously a small operation before being bought out by one of the big players in the beverage industry. It's got beautiful vibes and is a very happy place to taste some spirits and enjoy a drink with friends.

Mmmmmmmm this place is yummy! Everything from the rustic ambience to the warm people to the folksy music to the cozy drinks! And don't forget the food truck! This historic home is nestled at the end of a street along a sleepy winding creek but with plenty of parking. There's an outdoor seating area and on this Sunday there is a burrito food truck with plenty of vegetarian options. We did the flights which comes with an awesome glass as a souvenir! My favorites: This Is Your Favorite Whisky, Short Stack (a must have for home) and Citrus Moon. I tried a specialty cocktail also and it was awesome! It was the Clove Smoke Catharsis and had hints of orange and clove. The staff is really what makes this place! They are so friendly, knowledgeable, down to earth and made us feel welcome to come back! If I'm ever in the area again, I want to bring my friends here!

Wonderful tour, and tour guide! So knowledgeable, informative, and friendly!! Really impressed with the process of whiskey making. Tasting was great, and alternate cocktail availability was more than adequate. Not sure if it's a permanent fixture, but there is a delicious Taco Truck parked outside of the tasting room.

Years ago a friend gave us a tasting of Hudson Whiskey NY whiskey. We are traveling in the area so we decided to stop and have a tasting. We were not disappointed. We had 5 tastings and a glass for $12 and then I ordered the drink in the picture. Very different and delicious. I must learn how to make this at home. There are a lot of fun spots to hang out and you can order your drink online and they will bring it to your table.

If you're a fan of whiskey, it's not a complete trip upstate until you make a stop at Tuthilltown Distillery. I've been here a few times now and love the vibe; it's so tranquil and unfussy. Lots of outdoor seating out front (where the distillery cats, Bourbon & Rye, usually hang) as well as out back at picnic tables surrounded by all the trees and greenery. My favorite whiskey is the "It's Your Favorite Whiskey" -- and, if you decide you really like it as well, grab a bottle because they don't sell or distribute this one back in the city. You can do a tasting by getting a tasting kit that comes with 5 vials of whiskey/gin/whatever you choose to taste (and it comes with a cute little branded whiskey glass). This is a great option if it's your first time here and you're not sure what to get. They also have cocktails if that's more your scene. Currently, you can grab bottles of whiskey or bitters or merch inside, and when you sit outside to order drinks or tastings you enter it all via QR code/online ordering and they simply bring everything out to you. It feels super safe during Covid times and I appreciate the contactless options for ordering/paying. Love this place and can't wait to go back!

Had such a great time at this distillery when upstate for the weekend. Found it via Yelp (woohoo!) and the reviews did not steer me wrong. We did a tasting flight each - the bf did all the whiskies while I did whiskies, gin + the coffee liqueur. The require food at the moment due to NYS laws - but they had bags of chips which went along nicely and didn't require ordering a full meal. We also did a few cocktails after the flights + got some items to go home. Friendly service, quick attendance, covid safe and tasty whiskey! What's not to love?

Nestled in a beautiful surrounding area just nearby a field of wildflowers, this multi-building operation features tasty whiskies and gin. We arrived too late to do a tour, but we were able to do a tasting. The pricing was fair, $20 per person and a take away glass that was etched with the distillery's name. We didn't have space in our luggage to take a bottle home, but if we did the Short Stack was my favorite.

We were excited to stop here on our way home from Woodstock. They are doing everything by the books- temp check, partitions inside, and also have an outdoor patio for tastings. The staff was lovely, I wish I had asked for their names--we received thorough explanations of all the tasting options and differences in the whiskey and rye. The tastings are provided in small glass vials and you get a tasting glass to take home which is nicer than most you receive at other distilleries. We ordered chips to eat with the tasting and walked away with a bottle of the short stack that I've just used to make an old fashioned. It's perfect! If you are nearby, make a stop here. It's absolutely worth it. If we would have had more time we would have stayed for a cocktail too!

My relationship with whiskey is on the rocks. Ok, so I'm not a big whiskey drinker or connoisseur but I have to say this place just opened up the whiskey door to me! Came here for our 6th year anniversary and I was not disappointed. Made some reservations for me and the hubby as a surprise and they sure took care of us. Did the distillery tour and tasting and seriously had such an amazing time. They truly explain the whole process to you and it's so much fun trying 3 different whiskeys while you're at it. The best part is you can buy some to take home AND you get to keep your cool whiskey glasses. I was a little bummed that the restaurant was closed til further notice but they did have a little snack section outside to purchase some things. I had packed a little romantic picnic with some bread, cheese and olives so we just brought a blanket, found a good spot to relax and enjoyed our time. I do have to say it's nice to go here when it's kind of chilly and sun out to be able to get the best out of it. Great experience, will definitely come back! Whiskey maple syrup is to die for!

Came across this gem on my way back from hiking at Minnewaska State Park. What's better than a whiskey flight after a 3 hour hike?! NOTHING!! The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Excellent spirits! Highly recommended and Bourbon the cat distillery cat is SO CUTE! My BF and i each did a flight so we basically tried everything they had! We both enjoyed it thoroughly. A few of my favorites were the gin (i hate gin usually) and the lemon vodka omg and the coffee liquor AMAZING! My BF loved the back room deal and it's your favorite whisky. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area!

Day trip with the girl came here because my besties like whiskey! This was great the service was even better we were walked threw everything all our questions where answered and the cocktails were really good the one I picked was best they had a good selection of and not just whiskey There is a taco truck outside to pair with or without the cocktail wow they are soo good and the service was great!! What a change from what I remember - this place used to speak to class and upscale food and cocktails with a Local fresh vibe. Now you order generic drinks and have to enjoy a cocktail out of a plastic cup.. wow such a fail- guys glasses are super inexpensive you pay more for those plastic cups even with breakage. Do the math - and the environment we won't go there .. at least offer a glass option if you pay for the souvenir - just some free advice ... step it up ...

Came today to find out there is a private event. Wouldn't have even know there was an event bc the sign saying closed for private event was on the open door on the other side.

The whiskey is fine, good even. But the service? At least if you're over 50 years old, as are my wife and I, be prepared to be ignored by the staff behind the bar. I mean completely ignored. For several minutes. As if we were invisible. Which I guess to the 20 something bartenders we somehow were. Finally another staffer walking by noticed us and finally took our order for a tasting. And then we were pretty much ignored again. No insights into the various bourbons, no information beyond was was printed on the card sitting on the bar. All in all an extremely unpleasant experience.

Went to Distillery for first time yesterday with Friends... I must say that we all had great time... Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, drinks were amazing, and Bourbon/Vodka tasting was FANTASTIC!!! Please come and visit, I promise you won't be disappointed....

One out of two cocktails were ok, no food/snacks are provided and they have cute kitty companions. The only food around is a taco truck but unfortunately it isn't good:( Not going to lie the tamale was decent except it was just spicy, the flavor wasn't really shining through but that masa though, that was on point. They had empanadas too and that was just No. The masa was so dry and I didn't care for the flavor it had. The ground meat inside was like sand and had absolutely no flavor. Overall it's best to come here with your own food and try the flight.

This place is really fantastic! As locals for many years we've enjoyed the spirits back from the early years and to this day. The thing that's so wonderful is this tasting room in the old mill and the extra cool staff. Really great people making awesome cocktails and they even let me give treats to the beautiful resident kitties! As a tourist destination I'm sure they're inundated with people all day but completely make us feel welcome at the end of their long and most likely grueling weekend. Thanks guys!

Really relaxed patio for a lovely tasting. You can try the spirits in small vials and scan the QR code for tasting notes. Short stack was our favorite - we ended up buying a bottle.

Great whiskey tasting very friendly nice country style you could actually do your tasting down by the waterfall which is peaceful at night they have a fire pit there. Do you even get to keep the glass.

By far, my number one favorite place to visit whenever I'm upstate and here's why: 1. It's absolutely beautiful, you can sit by the creek if you want or stay close to their quarters but the greenery is stunning. 2. Their booze is delicious! 3. The staff is SO friendly. I actually decided to make this place my destination for my proposal and their staff member, Fabian, was a dream to work with. He made the entire process seamless and was genuinely kind and happy to make my idea into a reality. Everyone I talk to, I make sure to let them know about this place. If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for?

Loved this distillery! The place and people there are so charming! The spirits and cocktails were delicious!!! We would definitely recommend if you are in the area!

So happy with the amazing bourbon and rye! I was excited to see the place, but understandably they are in covid mode - and I am thankful for that. I love their sense of humor and relevance din making their cocktails to enjoy or take home in kits - a definite must try next time! And they have a great port o potty- the fancy kind with hand washing and flushing! Awesome in these times of covid! I am so much happier with soap and water than hand sanitizer - thank you for taking the extra step!

Amazing whiskey distillery and a restaurant with a great view. There is a really pretty bar in the middle of the indoor restaurant surrounded by tables. Also, there is a little deck type of outdoor place with a couple of tables, maybe 4 little tables, that overlooks a small waterfalls. We went on a weekday so we were lucky to be able sit outside. The view is breathtaking. There's a little stairs that we can walk down to the waterfalls and it's also connected to a wide open greens. It is very pretty. On the side of the restaurant, they also have a barn where they sell their whiskey and other local drinks. Their whiskey is in a very pretty clean cut looking bottle. They look great as gifts.

I took my brother on the tour and tasting. It took us about 75 minutes to get there from downtown Manhattan. Mack was our tour guide and he really knows all the details about the bourbon and other spirits distilling process. We learned a lot about the regulations and limitations of the industry of producing alcohol-based beverages in the USA, and more specifically in New York State. The distillery is located in a beautiful rural area that goes back in time. The bartenders are very polite and knowledgeable about the different alcoholic beverages they have. Do not leave without stopping at the food truck, they have really delicious food. A highly recommended tour!

One of the people who was with me during our visit to Tuthilltown Distillery was heard to say: "Sign me up for your Booze of the Month Club... NOW!!!" (Sadly, I don't believe there is such a thing, but if there were, it would be about 3 notches beyond awesome). Our visit here today was somewhere between fantastic and epic. That includes the staff (friendly, attentive, humorous, knowledgeable) and the spirits. I am also 66% happier with the tastings, because - and this is a fairly new update - New York State now allows you to sample 5 liquors instead of 3. You can also get unlimited samples of their non- or less-alcoholic products (the ones which are classified as "food") such as tonics, bitters, and syrups. It was still a tough decision to whittle my choices down to 5, but the woman who guided us through our tastings provided enough information on the backgrounds of the other liquors to help us make informed decisions. The liquors are memorable. Yes, they do cost more, but you are definitely getting your money's worth. If you don't want to pay full price, do a Yelp check-in the first time for a 10% discount, and on future visits, bring your empty bottles for 10% discounts. I thought I was done after sampling the ryes and bourbons and their own bitters, but then - evil people that they are - they let me sample their bourbon infused maple syrup. PANCAKES TOMORROW!!! Be sure to also say hi to Bourbon and Rye, the two Kliban-esque cats who actually run the place. Bourbon is the more social of the two. Bourbon's primary purpose in life appears to be to guard the spot on the table where the sun shines... until you open a package of oyster crackers as a palate cleanser. Then Bourbon is your best friend. So actually, after visiting here, I have not one but two Bourbons as my best friends. The other is their four grain bourbon. If you like whiskey, this is the place to come and have some tastings. The place is nice, cozy, the drinks are great and the people and service is great. They have a bar on sight so you can have cocktails with their whiskey. Our bartender, Nick, made for us some really good drinks. You need to try the Bear Skin Rug or the Cowboy Coffee, they are amazing cocktails. Thank you Nick for the GREAT cocktails!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great drinks. Outdoor seating as well as indoor. Will definitely go back next time we are in town.

Came here this summer when we were driving around Hudson Valley. Wow, what a great stop! We didn't time it right to take a tour, so we just did a tasting and had lunch. You get to pick which ones you want to taste, and since we had four of us, we tried just about everything (sharing is caring). You could get mildly drunk off this if you wanted to. Our server was helpful and the cat wandering around was adorable. Didn't end up buying any bourbon or rye, which is their main focus-- it always sounds far better than it tastes for me. Their maple syrup was awesome. I also really liked their liqueurs and ended up with bottles of cassis and cacao. I should get more mileage out of those, because they're delicious. We had a nice lunch next door. Not everything about it was perfect (a bit slow, a bit pricey), but this is the bougiest stuff you can find in the neck of the woods, and I liked it. The roaring waterfall is super picturesque. This place screams wedding venue to me. Would recommend if you're in the market for boutique spirits!

We had to take turns to go into the tasting room. Their reviews advertised that they are dog friendly but they are NOT. It was an 85 degree day & they said that they welcomed dogs everywhere outside. The staff were very friendly inside & deeply apologized, blaming the owner and his policy. We took turns with a tasting. The apple vodka was strong, and I really liked the simple syrup. I don't have much taste for bourbon, but heard many positive comments about it. Their prices were steep & we left without purchasing anything.

Nice operation, very visitor friendly. Great that local artisanship is thriving here in the Hudson Valley. Sadly, I do not like whiskey in general, and do not drink gin, so this was wasted on me...and I am not a fan of their vodka. First, check in on Yelp for a 10% discount - which should be handy given that these liquors are a tad pricey...but I am told that it's good stuff!

Fantastic! I've been here 2 times. The first time was for dinner while visiting friends in the area. The restaurant is so rustic and quaint. They have an outside deck over looking a little creek and small waterfall. We were a party of 6, the service was attentive and the food was good. The second visit, I toured the distillery and had samples in their tasting room. It was such a fun experience and their Baby Bourbon... OMG it's my new favorite! I ended up spending far more than I expected buying gifts and stocking my bar. I even purchased my father this fun barrel kit so he could age his own whiskey. Complete with some Corn Whiskey and a little charred barrel. He loved it! Definitely worth the trip and it's a wonderful scenic drive up from NYC. Great grounds and a nice day out. Highly recommend visiting in the fall, It's just beautiful.

Beautiful outdoor setup with several tables socially distanced. We ordered a flight of spirits and loved their gin and coffee liqueur the best. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Our tour with Lyon was informative and fun. It was interesting to see the behind-the-scenes of the distilling process. The grounds themselves are beautiful, and the tasting is obviously yummy. Their two huge cats are fun and friendly, and there are a ton fo things to purchase ranging from bitters, to clothing, to chocolate. Worth the trip. Tuthilltown has a wide range of spirits; not just whiskey and bourbon. They also have a delicious gin that turned me into a gin drinker. They also sell some products like really good tonics and bitters. I LOVE making a gin and tonic with their elderflower tonic. Some of their newer products include liqueurs. I recently purchased the coffee liqueur, which has replaced my Kahlua in some drinks, and I love the cacao liqueur in coffee after dinner. The atmosphere is really casual and laid-back at Tuthilltown but the products are definitely superior. PS - the bourbon chocolate bar (at $10) is not worth the price. It just taste like plain old chocolate.

This place was great. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was cozy and felt very safe during COVID. Spirits were great! I don't actually like any hard alcohol, but the Bear Skin Rug was a fantastic cocktail! My husband is a huge bourbon snob and he left with 3 bottles (bourbon, gin, & chocolate liquor). I have refused to drink vodka for years and I loved the apple vodka so much that I bought a bottle. That's saying something for both of us. We will definitely return. Thank you to the staff for being open during COVID and for being so friendly!
