Beautiful cabin — my children absolutely loved the pool and the games room. The camp kitchen was also great and we were very happy with the stay overall.
However, this changed at 2:30pm on the day of check-out when I received a missed call and text message from the reception staff member, Angela:
“Tweed Heads Holiday Park, Afternoon Danni could you please ring reception please. I just tried to ring your phone and could not leave a message. Just regarding the Cabin that you were in that I need to touch base with you please. Kind regards, Angela.”
I called back, assuming we had accidentally left something behind. Instead, I was informed — in a very blunt and accusatory tone — that one of my children had urinated on the mattress and that I “didn’t have the decency” to let reception know. I was told the cabin “stank of urine” and that the mattress was wet through the protector.
I was then advised that I would be charged a cleaning fee, which would be invoiced directly to my card.
While I fully understand cleaning fees apply in situations like this, the issue was not the fee — it was the way I was spoken to. I was belittled, spoken down to, and treated as though I had intentionally hidden something, when in reality I had absolutely no idea my 4-year-old had wet the bed until after this phone call.
The conversation became so upsetting that I told Angela to just charge my card and to never call me again.
To be clear: I would never ignore or hide something like this if I had known. Accidents happen with young children, and a professional, compassionate approach would have gone a long way.
I also want to acknowledge the receptionist who checked us in on Friday — she was absolutely lovely. If she had been the person to contact me today, I am confident the situation would have been handled with understanding rather than belittling.
Because of how I was treated, I will not be returning, nor will I be recommending this accommodation to others
