Tweetsie Railroad is nostalgic for me, since I came multiple times as a kid and remember loving it each time. Recently, I got the opportunity to take my 3 and 5 year old daughters, and while there are some things I notice more as an adult than I did as a kid (cost, quality of rides), the overall Tweetsie experience was still a very enjoyable one.
We came on a Thursday at around 4pm, and their policy is that if you enter the park after 3pm, your ticket is still good for the following day because they close at 6pm. So if you are able to, I'd highly recommend doing that. You not only get to experience the park for longer, there is practically no wait for the rides as you get closer to the 6pm closing time. The tickets are $52 for adults and $33 for kids ages 3-12. The pricing is admittedly high, but it includes as many rides on the train and other attractions as you want, and you can go out and come back into the park the entire day .
The main attraction at Tweetsie is the big train, which is a 3-mile loop with a few stops along the way for skits with cowboys and bandits. My daughters are a little sound-sensitive, so we had to cover their ears when there were gun shots during the skits. I don't think they were big fans of the skits, so we ended up not riding the big train more than once. They loved the train ride, though. Thankfully, there were other options for them.
The kiddie rides they really enjoyed were the basic fair-style rides that go round and round, sometimes going up, etc. They also really enjoyed the chairlift that went up to the top part of the park. At the very top was a place to feed goats, llamas, etc. and it was 50 cents for a small cup of feed. There was a smaller train ride that went through this mouse cave that my kids ended up favoring over the big train ride (but they are also 3 and 5 years old). There were some shows going on throughout the day at the top area as well (all outdoors, but in a covered area).
My favorite part was probably the "go karts" which are really just slow self-driving cars that you can only ride in single-file - but it brought back great memories!
Most everything is outdoors except the stores to buy souvenirs and food, but there are areas to find shade throughout the park as well. Pretty much no one was wearing masks at this point, but since most things were outdoors, it seemed ok. I saw a few families with masks, which I can understand. They had hand sanitizer stations at all the rides, but it was hit or miss whether they were filled up or not. But the bathrooms were clean and well kept, and they have a few family bathrooms, which we ended up using for our kids.
Overall, we had a good experience. The price is high, but if you end up showing up the day before after 3pm, then you get the whole next day to continue enjoying the park, which makes it slightly more worth it.
