HUALUXE Shanghai Twelve At Hengshan (Shanghai, China) 2 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Not to be smug about it, but we’ve been saying for years that Shanghai was going to be the business capital of the future. And now that the future is here, that prediction is looking pretty good. Glorious modern luxury hotels are even sprouting up in the traditional environs of the old French Concession; this one, Twelve at Hengshan, was designed by the Italian architect Mario Botta, who brought with him the terra cotta bricks that make up the hotel’s sleek geometric façade." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed for one night (unfortunately) and it was memorable indeed. Upgraded to a premium garden view room. A huge room with a gigantic bed together with a day bed, a couple of single person sofas and a small balcony overseeing the beautiful garden. You definitely do not feel like you're in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world. The rooms are super clean and even the bathroom is massive.||We were kindly provided with one complimentary breakfast for our son and the breakfast spread was truly amazing. Showcasing highlights of Chinese culinary delights as well as western staples.||The hotel was also conveniently located with a subway station right outside and numerous busses close by to parks and malls. It's located in the old French concession area so beautifully tree lined streets and walking distance to cafes and restaurants.

The best thing about this hotel is its spacious rooms. The location is inside the Xuhui area, which overlaps with the former French Concession. It's a pretty area, with tree-lined streets and mostly western cuisine eateries. ||The room stay experience, however, was not great. The automated toilet seat in one of our room only opened half way then slammed shut, hitting you as you try to sit. The hot water ran out at night in the other room at night. The light switches are not well labeled and difficult to use. ||The service, however, was the worst part. We arrived at 12:30 and the rooms were not yet ready. We asked to store our luggage so we can go out to lunch. Instead of asking the bell service to come, the front desk (Tyler Jin) told us to walk our luggage back to the front ourselves. He then told us we'd be called when the rooms are ready. When we still didn't get a call at 2:30 (past the 2:00pm checkin time), we returned and asked for status, and were told only one of the two rooms was ready. Ultimately, they found two rooms on the same floor (but not adjoining as we had hoped) that were ready. Throughout this process, Tyler (who was the front desk manager) refused to make eye contact and never uttered one work of apology. Truly astonishing inability to engage with customers.||The hotel property is large, yet devoid of service personnel. You often can't find anyone to ask questions or get directions. ||When we called to ask for firm pillows, the customer service didn't know what to do. We then asked "what kinds of pillows do you have?", she rattled off a few options, including foam. When we said: "Yes, we'd take the foam pillows", she said: "I have to ask if we have them..." So we asked her to call back and let us know. She never called.||I would not recommend this hotel.

Architecturally beautiful hotel and nice display of unique sculptures! This is my first time staying in this hotel and location is ideal - just opposite to Metro Line 1 station . Rooms are clean and very functional and good local food for breakfast.

I had a wonderful three-day stay! The breathtaking views and spacious hotel room made my experience great, although some of the equipment was a little outdated. However, the hotel is conveniently located near famous attractions and offers excellent transportation options. I highly recommend it!

Stayed in Hualuxe at a recent stay in Shanghai. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a nice inner courtyard. The hotel has several positives, but there are also some negatives that one cannot overlook. Positives - the hotel is just next to the MRT station, and so getting around is really easy. The surrounding area of the hotel is quiet and enjoyable to walk around looking at the old mansions. The hotel room and bathroom is large and the bed is comfortable. The buffet breakfast has a good selection of local and western dishes and has an egg station which cooks eggs to your liking on demand - something I hardly find in other 5 stars hotel. Negatives. If you are given a room facing the next building, be prepared for truck loading noises in the early morning. This was loud enough to wake us up. Secondly, the pillows are too soft to provide good neck support. Thirdly, the staff could be more friendly and proactive with guests, such as helping with the luggage or offering help for transport to the airport. Fourthly, the toiletries supplied could be more generous compared to the small bottles (especially when room is occupied by 2 guests). Lastly, the electronic light controls in the room takes some time to master.

This hotel is modern with all the modern facilities you would hope for. It was a great place to start our trip to China. The swimming pool is an added bonus.
