This Luxury Farm Retreat in Vermont Is One of New England’s Best Hotels — Here’s What It’s Like

"Opened as a more casual complement to the Main Dining Room, Twiggs offers an informal menu of burgers, stews, and other comfort-forward dishes that still emphasize locally sourced ingredients, signaling a new, more relaxed dining option as part of the property’s multiphase renovation." - Samantha Lauriello Samantha Lauriello Samantha Lauriello is a New York City-based writer and editor, and the host of Travel + Leisure’s TikTok channel. Service was good, pleasant and not slow as others mentioned. I had fish sandwich with onion rings ($3 upcharge) and both were good. Hubby had french onion soup and pretzels. He was happy with both. Only complaint is background music (radio) was too loud.

Google
Excellent value and service with a nice atmosphere. You've got your typical greasy options but also salads, delicious roasted vegetables and baked potato. The staff was very sweet and professional. The portions are very large, one plate is just about enough for two people. The chicken included 3 cutlets with a delicious maple bcon topping, a large baked potato and ple ty of vegetables. The mac n cheese was large as well. You can eat inside or on the patio outside.

Bill S.

Google
Had dinner here two years ago with friends when we visited from Arizona. They have a great mac n cheese and I couldn't wait to have it again when we visited this time. The mac n cheese has bacon, apples, maple syrup, bacon jam and fried chicken. It is sinful.

Google
A real fun place in St Albans. Excellent burgers. Friendly service.

Google
When I first discover this restaurant 4-5 years ago, the service and food was great all while staying busy. There were familiar faces among majority og the staff. Over the past couple years, service, wait times and staff seem to be deficient and long past. Ive eaten here many times over the years, and whether it was on the “ Twiggs” side or “the Clothier”, the sense of an eager friendly and busy yet attentive restaurant seem to be an old page in a forgotten book.

Google
Great place to eat, right in the heart of St Albans. Outdoor/indoor seating and perfect to get a glance of the street market vendors across the street. The pretzel with beer cheese and poutine was delicious. Plenty enough to be a full meal. The steak salad and chicken ceasar wrap was also tasty. The place is nice and our server was spot on with our orders without writing it down! Plenty of seating and an overall great place to eat Highly recommend stopping in for a bite to eat.

Google
Love love love eating here because of the atmosphere. However, sometimes it feels over priced for the amount of food you’re getting.

Ruth R.

Google
Even though it was busy we were seated very quickly and the food was pretty good. We'll go back at some point for sure! 2025 Updated Review: Had their Balsamic Flat bread and cheese cake which were to die for, and when I asked to have someone help me make our anniversary special, they jumped at the idea and were so thoughtful. Very impressed with their service. 10/10

Yelp
Friendly staff, good selection of draft beer, and enough of a varied menu to satisfy most. My wife is a vegetarian and can eat at Twiggs without just choosing a salad or a veggie burger. By no means a vegetarian focused establishment, but anytime we find ourselves in Saint Albans around lunchtime, this is always the spot we go to.

Sarah L.

Yelp
Service started good until waitress got a third table. Waited 10 minutes for a glass to pour the (already opened) beer in. Do NOT get the flatbreads...gluten free was basically raw dough and the regular was terribly undercooked...both drowning in cheese. Requested cheddar on potato skins, rather than mozzarella. Came out with obviously mozzerella. Sent them back and chef (putting it kindly) came out with a package of unopened cheddar to try to prove we were wrong and "not to order something you don't like in the future". Just rude and gross.

Yelp
They had a pretty nice assortment of beers on tap and my friend had a Chocolatini that was really good. We loved our food - he had a BLT with fries and I had the Buffalo Mac n Out, which is Buffalo chicken macaroni and cheese topped with fried chicken. It was delicious and the portion was huge. The only drawback here was the speed of the service. Yes, they had a sign at the entrance saying they are short staffed in the kitchen and wait times may be long. I get that. But I really didn't expect a one hour wait for food at 3:00 on a Wednesday afternoon. It just seemed excessive to me. Despite that, we still would come back because the food was so good. We'd just not come during a busy time, and we'd plan to be here longer.

lisa k.

Yelp
It's 752. We were seated at 645 and are still waiting for our appetizer. No wait person has come to tell us it's gonna be late but we did overhear the host telling people the kitchen is backed up. Would be nice if someone at least touched base. On the positive side, it's good weather and were sitting outside. My husband went to the bar and got himself another drink cuz no one asked at the table.

Yelp
I had a gift certificate from a couple of years ago that didn't expire (said right on there that it never expires), but when I tried to use it online, the site wouldn't accept it. I called the restaurant to try and use it over the phone, but was told that the restaurant had changed owners and they wouldn't honor the gift certificate. And so I ordered dinner from a different restaurant and won't be going back to Twiggs. Disappointing.

Yelp
The Vermonster and my all time fav. FOS The FOS was pretty good. Had a unique flavor that I enjoyed somewhat and the burger was great except for the bread omg I was dying of dehydration. But, the gutts of the burger was great.

Kurt H.

Yelp
Call for take out...Not a chance, we've stopped taking to go orders....So I go there..I'll have a beer and order some food. So I order wings and a pepperoni pizza.. to go.. it was an hour wait...there were no pepperonis on the pizza. The worst part is Haley said to me" for some reason they put the pepperoni under the cheese. Sorry about that"... When I say my kids and I made the same pizzas when they were young I'm exaggerating. My kids pizzas were 100x's better. Do they employ toddlers in the kitchen? Wings were okay, beer was cold.

Jon B.

Yelp
The ambiance is informal, and the waitstaff are happy and helpful, although sometimes too busy to see that you need some attention. The food is fine, with large portions. The Philly Cheese Steak sub comes wrapped in aluminum foil, and leaks melted cheese from every seam in the foil. Eating the sandwich with the cheese all over the foil is messy, but if you try to remove the foil, you will discover that the bun is also covered with melted, sticky cheese. It is impossible to eat without requiring a trip to the bathroom afterwards to clean up. When I asked the waitress if she had ever eaten one, she said "Yes, by accident". When I explained how messy it is to eat, she said "I've told them before. Want me to tell them again?" I said "Yes, please". When she returned, she just rolled her eyes. The sub tasted fine, but I spent 20 years in Philly, and this kind of messiness was never an issue in Philly. They can do better, but appear to not care to do so.

Yelp
So I was recommended this restaurant by somebody and I am so happy that I went. It reminds me a lot of a restaurant in Bucks County, PA that I absolutely loved and wished could have been franchised. Twiggs is the closest thing to that. It is all American cuisine, but it boasts a really diverse menu with a variety of food selection options. I settled on Chicken Tenders and Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese at the suggestion of Camille who was my server and the bartender at the time. I also was craving a Margarita as I hadn't had one in ages and being someone that had worked many years in hospitality and had to make drinks herself for work, Camille's did not disappoint. It was sweet and sour at the same time and paired perfectly with what I ordered. Camille herself was very friendly, as was her husband Lance, who took the time to stop by and speak with me. Both of them were quite personable and made my dining experience that much more pleasant. The quality of the food, the atmosphere, the service-it all deserves five stars and it was a great recommendation. I highly recommend it to anyone who is stopping through or staying in the Saint Albans area:)

Yelp
Arrived at 7:15, order for drinks taken, then the wait began. Finally server reappeared and took a dinner order. Never saw the server again as we waited and waited for over an hour. Several of our party actually walked out when finally the food arrived after 8:40. Food was fair, service was horrible. If our server had only come back to the table to let us know the kitchen was behind, taken a second drink order, offered to bring some rolls and butter or even some crackers, bring more water, anything. But instead we simply sat for an hour looking at our empty water and drink glasses. All in all a disaster of an evening out.

Yelp
We started our lunch outside, but it was a bit too chilly so we asked for a booth inside. They were very nice and took good care of us. I liked the light over our table that had a lampshade made from a maple syrup tin can! I had a very nice soup and a delicious salad. This was a nice lunch that we stopped for between the Burlington airport and Chazy. It's a well-run restaurant and I would go there again!

Yelp
We have eaten outside at Twiggs several times this summer. Twice I have had the Fish Taco which I have really enjoyed. Service has been great. The most recent visit we were happily surprised that there was a band playing outdoors - Acoustic Mayhem - who were great. Nice location across from Taylor Park and on the historic downtown strip.
google avatar

Declan M.

Yelp
I went here with me and my family. We ordered a fish sandwich, a steak, and a flatbread pizza. The pizza was fire the sandwich was crispy, tender, and tasty, and the steak was delightful. We then ordered twiggies. They were delicious.

Yelp
The food is good The service was ok But the price was ridiculous they charge so much for so little if you want a expensive place to eat then this is your place
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Listening to great music by Nobby Reed in the park eating excellent appetizers (potato skins, get them). Everything is great especially Sierra our server who clearly deserves a raise.

Yelp
While on a week long get away to the northern fringes of Vermont, Saint Albans is always a pleasant stop. One extremely favorable stop was Twiggs along the main drag. We had just walked the Main Street and beautiful historic park. Scoping each stop and Twiggs won our vote. Seated outside along the sidewalk, just mildly traveled with passer-by's, with an umbrella above a quaint table. Beside us a storefront, closed for the day, displayed trinkets from another day and time. Our server arrived, and as usual I had asked to see the draft list, my wife a Resiling. I chose a local from St Albans, 14th Star Brewing, "Valor IPA" (and later the "Maple Breakfast"). "Just up the road to the right" per our server. Both beverages quenching during the later side of afternoon. A light lunch and following the Maple theme: A Maple Bacon Chicken wrap and a Maple Bacon flatbread. The Bacon and Maple Syrup both locally sourced - this is a great agricultural region. We share 50-50. Smiles of pleasure and relaxation could not be avoided. As we slowly knocked off the last few bites, we kicked back a little longer to enjoy a second round before heading off. Twiggs is a place to visit and frequent when in Town.

Yelp
I have always loved the service and food , but today was the pits. We waited for a hour for our food and then they had my husbands order wrong. It was going to be another 20 mins for them to make what he ordered. He said nope and so he didn't eat. We were out celebrating our Anniversary. The waitress was arguing with us on what my husband ordered . My food was cold and I only ate half of it. We were very very disappointed. We probably will never eat there again. So Happy Anniversary to us.

Yelp
They generously sat us despite closeness to closing time. The menu offers an exquisite array of dinner options including unique flatbreads and many grilled chicken dishes. Comical interactions between staff and a varied playlist define a fun and positive yet serene ambiance. Server Chelsea is hilarious, outgoing, and helpful. Very similar to Jen at the Social Goat in Covington, GA - are they soul sisters? Would return without hesitation!

Angi B.

Yelp
A drink and appetizers for 4 people should not take 90 min on a normal - not busy- Saturday at 3:30pm....we were sat and forgotten about more than once...very disappointed for an establishment I used to visit frequently
google avatar

Roger Y.

Yelp
Adding some pictures I took recently. The menu was updated several months ago. Most everything is still the same. There are fewer burger choices but you can create your own from a long list of ingredients.

Yelp
I'm convinced there are no good restaurants anymore. This was a delivery to my hotel (not DoorDash), Sunday, 10/20/24. I ordered the Cod, side salad, baked potato, and French onion soup. The Cod had no salt and was severely over cooked, and tough. I didn't eat the salad, I didn't realize it was mixed greens, as the website doesn't offer descriptions. However, there was one half of a piece of cucumber, and one thin slice of onion. The baked potato was clearly old and re-heated. The skin was black, and wilted, and the potato had that old yellowish hue they get when being old and re-heated. The mixed veg, that came with the fish was decent. The soup was extremely bitter, and full of herbs that were reminiscent of oregano (in French onion soup). There was a THICK slab of cheese on top and mushy bread underneath. Additionally, the website doesn't prompt the customer to choose salad dressing, or toppings for potato. They sent balsamic for the salad, and NOTHING for the potato. No butter. No sour cream. Finally, no utensils were sent, nor was the Diet Pepsi I ordered and paid for. I suppose places like this get away with mediocre (at best) food, due to being a small town with limited options. Do better.

Yelp
Meet friends at 6:00pm and it took 30 min just to take our drink order. Another 20 to get the drinks and take our order. From the time we walk in to the time we got our cold meal was 2 hours..... very bad food, and service.

Aurora R.

Yelp
We had reservations, got our table right away, then didn't see a waitstaff for 20-25 minutes. Never got water refills. They had someone playing music, it was super loud. Food portions are ridiculously large and a waste of food. Carrot cake was just alright.

George B.

Yelp
The food and service were excellent. We had plenty of time for a reunion with an old friend.

Avery C.

Yelp
The staff was very nice and the band playing was good. Our waitress was awesome, even though it seemed like she was the only person working. The food was dry and lacked flavor, almost like it had sat under the heat lamp for way too long. It took over an hour for us to get our food and it wasn't even busy. Pricing would have been more acceptable if the quality was better. I would've had a better meal eating a Big Mac and boxed mac and cheese. It's just unfortunate that the food took so long, only to be so bad. I hope this horrible quality isn't affecting the server's tips because it is most likely a kitchen/ manager issue.

Karen B.

Yelp
Friday lunch sat inside service took forever! Food was so so would not go back:(. Great area and friends did said service was much better if you sat outside.

Yelp
We went during the grunt of the winter storm and made it just in time before they closed early. All of the food was delicious. We even took the cheesecake to go and had it two days later and it was still delicious. The chicken wings were nice and crispy with ton of flavor. They have a selection of drinks as well. Such a lovely restaurant.
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
I used to love this place. The past year the service has been hit or miss. The long time staff is great but the kitchen has been struggling. Plan on being patient. I really hope they can turn the corner.

Michael G.

Yelp
Website say open till 10 it's wrong and they actually close before 8:30 apparently. We showed up at 8:15 and were turned away. Good luck

Carol W.

Yelp
I emailed about catering service for a party. I was told everything was all set but when I went to pick up food they had no order. I showed them the email exchange and was told it would be ready in ten minutes. They then overcharged me and I again had to show the email with the price breakdown. Twenty minutes later and late for the party the food still was not done I again inquired as to how much longer and the owner proceeded to yell at me for not understanding and threatened to cancel the order, never apologized for the inconvenienc. One of the waitstaff apologized but the owner wouldn't . This is not the way to do business.

Linda R.

Yelp
The food is very good here, my husband loves the maple bacon chicken, the mac & cheese is really good and Everything i've had has been great. Staff is friendly and hugs from the owner Tom is so sweet. Great music too!
google avatar

Suzie K.

Yelp
Good burgers, good service. I wish the buffalo chicken hero was a little spicier. Definitely a place worth going.

Review V.

Yelp
I've written a review previously and wanted to provide an updated. Throughout the pandemic many restaurants had to adapt to the times, and while Twiggs did add delivery and online ordering was still available, I've failed to see an improvement in their rate of quality deliveries. We've had multiple wrong orders delivered, missing items, cold food, and a few other issues. The aforementioned along with the distrust in their safety practices through the pandemic, particularly the owner failing to wear a mask on site, I must give this restaurant 2 stars this time. I hope to see it improve in the future, or at least with other experiences, I do feel that my next visit to Twiggs is now behind me.
google avatar

Tyler H.

Yelp
Lindsay the bartender is AWESOME! Super friendly and knowledgeable about her town. Even gave recommendations on where to buy authentic maple syrup. Then explained differences between the light to dark syrup. Food was great, atmosphere was great! Everything was amazing! Thank you Lindsay for being awesome at your job and I wish you success on your promotion!

Scott B.

Yelp
High-quality food in a pleasant space. It's so nice to find a spot that isn't a chain, that makes their food from scratch. The cheesy beer sauce and the maple bacon jam are off the charts.
google avatar

Gary A.

Yelp
Good service and ambiance were great. Best burger I've had in a long. Only improvement- toast the bun. Staff were great

Josh B.

Yelp
There were four of us, and only one person got their meal correct. The waitress didn't write anything down, which could've been the issue. I ordered a protein bowl with chicken and shrimp, ended up with salmon and French fries.... Only thing good about the restaurant was the company that I brought. Awesome: this place is absolutely terrible.
google avatar

Jacqui P.

Yelp
Staff was attentive, food was fast and flavorful - I had the southwest salad with chicken. Started with mozzarella sticks and a screwdriver

Abs M.

Yelp
I normally love this place, but unfortunately we had horrible service which led us to getting up and walking out. We went in with our infant, and we fed him a bottle and waited for the waitress to come over and take our drink and food order we waited 30 minutes nobody came over. Other tables around us had gotten sat and waited on. Finally, I got up to go ask the hostess if she could get us some drinks and she said she would send a waitress right over. We waited about three more minutes. We probably could've waited a little bit longer but at this point we were frustrated and I was hungry. Unfortunately, the service has been really bad lately we go quite often and it's always quite a bit of a wait before we get even water.

Bette G.

Yelp
Great food. Ordered a burger and they willingly substituted a turkey burger. Best I've had in a long time. Service was great. Very friendly staff.

Allan Z.

Yelp
Forget the Yelp 10 discount. Server said she never seen it before and must be something Yelp does not the restaurant. Felt like a bait and switch scheme. Would not have gone there without offer and now wish I never did. Food was mediocre at best service was nonexistent. Lights over table were burnt out.
google avatar

Bryant P.

Yelp
We have only had pickup a couple of times from here but food was good. Really like the burger menu and my vegetarian partner is never disappoint d. Power Salad was a nice compliment to the blue cheese crumble burger.

Trish C.

Yelp
Twiggs was exactly what we were looking for during our visit to St. Albans! Cool atmosphere, reasonable prices, great menu and our friendly server, Camille. I recommend the salad with ahi tuna and the famous Mac and cheese is also a must. There are also fun drinks like the jalapeño margarita. Great experience!

Christine D.

Yelp
Twiggs is a good, go-to, restaurant and bar serving a wide variety of food and drinks. The atmosphere can get loud when it's busy, so those who are sensitive to that type of environment may want to avoid peak hours, otherwise it's a great choice for groups large and small.

Evangelica L.

Yelp
the food isn't good. they switch up the order everytime it's different everyday. and the servive is HORRIBLE I got here at seven and it's almost eight and I still haven't even got me an appetizer. HORRIBLE. so long. and starving. I hate this place I
google avatar

Steven S.

Yelp
I had a bad experience here. I was actually insulted over my appearance, believe it or not! Its too bad no one cares about customer service these days... ONE STAR for overpriced, mediocre food served by jaded help. When you're the only game in town... its easy to cut corners!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere. The staff are always nice and the food comes out fast. Great place to visit in the winter for the indoors or outside on the patio in the summer for a drink!
google avatar

Andy K.

Yelp
We were just scolded for walking in to sit at the bar for a drink by a girl who might be 18... they treated us like second class citizens, still trying to figure out why we couldn't sit at the bar, by the hostess... we just left. The mediocre food and high prices don't justify crap service. Update... 10/14/2017 If you want giant uncooked pieces of fatty bacon on your signature dish... please eat here. What I want is the quality that was here a year plus ago
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Very good food and atmosphere! The spicy fried green beans are excellent! Prices were reasonable and there was even a band playing during dinner! Seems like a fine place to bring kids as some people brought their kids. One little boy was even dancing! If you want peace and quiet, it's probably not the best option but if you want to spice it up a bit, this is the place!
