We were referred here by a friend in Texas who is a native citizen of Nassau. It was a great recommendation. The food was very, very good. We enjoyed the conch fritters, jerk chicken, and the lobster sandwich; plantains and cole slaw. The chicken was wet and juicy and spicy but tolerable to even a lightweight, just perfectly spiced. Even the Cole slaw was excellent and I am a slaw monster. The wife had some kind of fruity ice creamy and strawberry daiquiri thing that’s HUGE and gave her a terrific brain freeze. I had both the Malik and the Sands Bohemian beers, ice cold, and the Sands is the winner with that little kick of malt that’s always a pleasure with a great meal. If you can, ask for one of Mel’s tables. She’s funny and honest as heck and works her butt off to make her customers happy. This place went from nearly empty to packed between 11 and 11:30 and we had a pleasant and safe walk along Bay Street from the cruise port (Royal Carribean, Radiance) and if you’re planning on a good lunch while in port, I’d suggest an arrival here around 11 am. Be prepared for some really very good local cuisine, great service, and a restaurant that doesn’t look fancy, because it isn’t. It’s just been around a long time, is well maintained with clean facilities, and is about as Nassau as Nassau gets. Thanks for the referral, Teemar!
