My husband and I have been shopping here for 5+ years and we are delighted and satisfied every time we visit. From supplies to feeders to cute merchandise, this place is the best when it comes to reptiles and herps. The staff is cool, knowledgeable, and down to answer questions. If you are buying feeders, bring in some clean containers as they reuse takeaway bins, yogurt tubs, etc. to send them home, keeping plastic out of the trash. Also, don't forget to say hi to the shop critters like Groggy the Pixie Frog! 🐸

I don't live in the area, but when I stop by to visit family, I always have to swing by to see what's in stock. There's always such a variety, its like going to a zoo were you can buy most of the animals! Plus the staff has always been so friendly and informative! I got a baby northern blue tounge skink from them back in 2021, they had always been a dream reptile of mine and I was so stoked when I saw they had them! They helped me pick out all the supplies I would need and helped me pick out my skink! (They had two litters at the time, so lots to pick from!) Her name is Indy, named after the indoraptor from jurassic world! if it wernt for twin cities i wouldn't have Indy, and I wouldn't have rescued my 2nd skink!

Google
very wide selection, decent customer service, but it is unforgivable, the conditions they keep their animals in. tiny enclosures, some snakes were trying to wedge open the cages, they are obviously unhappy or very hungry and desperately wanting to escape. imagine being trapped in a single room for days, let alone months or years. live mice kept in drawers all stacked on top of each other. do better.

Google
I LOVE this store, I can’t say enough great things about TCR. I am a pretty regular customer and all the employees are so knowledgeable and happy to help answer any questions or provide recommendations. The gal who often works at the checkout (sorry— I don’t know her name!) is my favorite— so kind and wonderful with the animals! You can tell they really care a lot about all the creatures they keep. I can’t recommend this store enough, it’s a gem. Thanks for all you do! My frogs thank you, too. :)

Google
We have been coming here even before getting our beardie. The place is always clean and well organized. The staff is nice. One lady in particular is super personable and always helpful. They always have good bugs in stock, and the animals appear to be well cared for.

Google
The best reptile store in the twin cities! An amazing variety of animals & insects, and a lovely selection of plants as well! The workers are always incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Fun to just come by to look around as well. My boyfriend is a reptile super-fan and whenever I suggest coming here he lights up like a bulb.

Google
Well I was in search for some dune scorpions and I was in luck that they had two in stock, first time I have heard of this place I was excited to check out the store, and I was shocked with all the reptiles and landscape items for terrariums.. I will be returning to this place.

Ella

Google
Twin Cities Reptiles is a unique store with knowledgeable and helpful staff. They have a wide variety of amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles for sale, and all of them have clean and well-kept enclosures. I was happy to see that they all looked very healthy and properly cared for. The people who work here are clearly very passionate about the welfare of their animals. Additionally, they offer an extremely extensive variety of supplies to help any reptile hobbyist. They have enclosures, food, lights, tank decorations, and pretty much anything else you might need for your reptile. They have a nice selection of plants for usage in vivariums, and they also all looked healthy and well cared for. If you love reptiles and amphibians, this is definitely one of the best places to shop!

Yelp
A great store for all your reptile, fish, insect, and bird supply needs! They have an amazing selection of reptiles in the back of the store, and it's easy to tell that they are all taken care of. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. I've been here about 4 times over the year and have never had a negative experience. The space is wide and easy to get through if you have mobility issues. They have free parking next to the building, and the light rail's Raymond Ave Station is within one block.

Yelp
If you need it they have it ! If you're a reptile enthusiast or want to learn more about Being a life time keeper of a special animal this is where you want go go. Also there bugs and mice for feeders are at a great price !

Yelp
This place is the best and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Geronimo, my leopard gecko, has never been happier than when I purchase his supplies from Twin Cities Reptiles. Affordable and knowledgeable! That being said, their parking lot always has the most giant potholes I've ever seen.

Yelp
The place has everything for reptiles, amphibians, and arthropods that the chain stores do not.

Yelp
The store smells like poop so I got paranoid when I found a Fly Larvae in my frogs poop because it made me think the Reptile Store gave my frog a parasite

Yelp
This is a place to be experienced. Staff are knowledgeable, enthusiastic, frank and honest. Fast service with a smile. I bought a shirt. I like this place.

Yelp
I've lived in this area for about three months, and have put checking out Twin Cities Reptiles on my to do list. Today was the perfect day for me to do so. Stopped in around 4:00 pm and was surprised by the size of the store. I mean, WOW! Judging from the outside, it didn't look like there would be that much space. When I walked in, I saw a young man working the register but I wasn't greeted or anything. I personally think it's important and mandatory in any retail business to greet your potential customers, briefly mention the "deals" and ask if they are looking for something specific. No big deal, I wasn't shopping anyway... but I possibly could have been with a persuasive gesture like, a greeting I familiarized myself with the store by walking through each isle, reading labels, touching things and all sorts of fun stuff. When I began heading toward the back of the store, that's where all the excitement began! I was hoping to see something cool and boy did I! This is a great place to take the kids to look at some reptiles and maybe pick out a cool book to learn more about whichever they find the most interest in. They have fish, large tortoises, large reptiles that look like baby alligators, turtles, all things lizards, bugs, snakes.. I mean.. it is a reptile store. BUT I had such a great time browsing around, observing. After about 15 minutes of enjoying myself I started feeling bad that they were caged (very conflicting feeling when it comes to caged animals) Overall, I had a great time. I love that you're not pestered by the staff (because I was there for about an hour), the friendliness of the shoppers, and all of the super cool things they have to offer. The fish are SO BEAUTIFUL and SO INEXPENSIVE! So beautiful, that for the first time ever in life I considered purchasing a few fishy's WHEN or IF I ever decide to get a reptile, or a fish I most likely would shop here.

Yelp
The absolute best pet store to exist. I am one to avoid pet stores at all costs because of the ethics. But this is completely different. Every single animal is taken care of with amazing husbandry! The staff has obvious passion and who ever built this business built it through love! A lot more affordable than any chain pet store too! I've even used it as a date spot with my partner. Always a lovely time to go through here. Amazing supplies and animals!

Yelp
I stopped in here for the second time ever. The first time I spent like 3 hours looking and admiring all of the exotics. Today was no different. I originally came here to get some crickets while visiting a family member 2 miles away. Of course I walked out with a lot more than just crickets. Lol For the most part, their prices are very good and competitive. Some items are a little spendy (bulbs and clamp lamps) but besides that, their prices are great. Secondly, they take really good care of their reptiles and amphibians. They have the appropriate husbandry, correct lights, correct temps, feeding correctly and in some animal food bowls they used the right amount of calcium. A lot of their tanks are bio active - which I love. You can tell they spend a lot of time on their reptiles cages, and that alone tells you A LOT about their business and how they take care of the animals there. One thing I really liked about this reptile store from Petco or other massive chain stores is that they actually care about the well being of their animals while they are waiting for their forever homes. If you are looking to go bio, or just add a couple plants to your reptile tank, they have live, non toxic, no fertilizer used plants for very very decent prices. The employees are very knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. They actually know what they are doing when it comes to care and husbandry of the different exotics they offer. Also, their live feeders are WAYYYYY cheaper than Petco or PetSmart. They offer many different feeders: crickets of all sizes, superworms, meal worms, hornworms (you can buy by the singles for $1.25) which is a way better deal than PetSmart. They also have mice. Even though PetSmart is 3 minutes from my house, I will no longer be buying my reptiles or supplies from them. I will drive the 13 minutes to twin cities reptiles. I would much rather give my money and business to a place that cares about their reptiles and not about making money. P.s- they also breed some of their own reptiles. Such as snakes, lizards, geckos etc. Another plus is that for some of the geckos, like th crested gecko they even know the lineage. Which is a big plus in the herp community. Stop buying from chainstore pet stores and come to two. Cities reptiles! You won't be disappointed. I will be back next week.

Yelp
Great service and animals are healthy. Great selection of feeders, pets, care supplies, enclosures and decor. The staff know what they are doing and are nice to customers.

Yelp
Twin Cities Reptiles is excellent -- A+++ I've been a customer for decades...since they were located in Golden Valley...and before that (when I was a little kid) when they were located in Hopkins. They're awesome! Of course, TCR sells "exotics" like reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. They also sell specialty food (or "feeders") like live mice, live rats, meal worms, crickets, and more. They have all manner of cages, tanks, terrariums, and "habitats". They sell main stream pet supplies too! They have food, supplies and accessories for your dog, cat, or small animal. Finally, the staff are incredible. They're knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The owners, Bruce & Sarah are great. I really can't say enough good things about Twin Cities Reptiles. Just go there and check it out! -Daddy Maxx Retro P.S. As a side story... My dad used to take me to Twin Cities Reptiles in the 1970s, when I was in elementary school. They were at the first location in Hopkins. I loved to look at the weird baby turtles like the Mata Matas and the Yellow Headed Amazon Sidenecks (now on the endangered species list). My dad used to work at the North Central Airlines and he'd frequently bring home animals when he came across a broken crate and animals running around loose in the baggage area! He'd bring home mice, rats, hermit crabs, hamsters, etc. One time he brought me about 10 hamsters. After a few months, I had only one really BIG male hamster! I thought they were escaping somehow. My dad brought me to Twin Cities Reptiles. Bruce explained to me, "Didn't you know that male hamsters are cannibalistic?" Yuck - NO, I didn't know that! This was in the days before the internet. I had to go to the library or talk to guys like Bruce. Thanks for many great years in business and many memories, Bruce!

Yelp
I almost gave this place five stars. If I wasn't such a prude in high standards... This place is amazing. Clean, a pet store with hundreds of animals and no lingering stench of poop and dirty cages. In fact, staff were immaculately cleaning the cages while we browsed through the lizard area. The store opens up to a retail space with normal aquarium and pet items but also cool little things to find if you explore. Chocolate covered ants, scorpion lollipops and other fun animal things that are sure to gross out the kids! Walk a bit further and you're greeted by the house tortoise (30 years old and huge) and the cage-mate Monitor. Both bathing in their sun lamps and behind a glass door for the kids to get a great view. A bit further into the store and the building opens up to a dim-lit space with caves and corners all adorned with lighted aquariums. Snakes, lizards, geckos, frogs, monitors, dragons galore. Giant Centipedes, never-ending tuppawares of rare spiders making webs and foggy tanks full of dart frogs and toads. The kids were bright-eyed and amazed the whole time and staff were continuously patient and helpful. The animals all looked very healthy and well taken care of and though we were not there to buy anything, the prices were average (I always dream of getting a snake for the boys). The floors and cages were clean, the inventory was amazing and the animals seemed to be treated with the up-most care. What more can you ask from an animal store?
google avatar

Kim C.

Yelp
My daughter is a reptile fan which surprised me since she is terrified of bugs. She loves snakes and wants to hold one but this place doesn't allow you to handle the snakes (or any animal). But it's a cool place to come browse the lizards and snakes and get live and frozen food for your pets. They have a large dragon and some boas which aren't for sale but cool to look at. I didn't realize snakes were so expensive. The average little snake that fits into a small plastic box will set you back $100 and large ones will cost hundreds. They have a large selection of tanks and stuff to house them as well as food and other non reptile pet supplies. If you have a reptile or want one, this would be a good place to check for your needs. They have a private parking lot so you don't have to fight for parking on the street. They are opened on sundays too.

Yelp
These guys are amazing - they are extremely friendly and jump to answer any questions you may have. They also know what they're talking about, every employee either knows the answer to any of the questions I've had or they get someone who does. None of the advice/tips I have been given have been wrong. They care about the animals in their store and remember who they go to (I get asked how my corn snake is every time I stop in!). Their store is clean and well kept. Yes their prices for some of the animals may be a little more than other places, but you're paying for so much more than just the animal. They keep detailed records of every animal in their care, which they hand off to you upon sale. They know the personalities and quirks of each animal in the store. The animals are healthy, and every time I've stopped in the cages are immaculate (my visits average every 2-3 weeks). They also care greatly about their employees. As someone from a retail-working background, that means a lot to me too. If the weather is bad, they look out for their employees' safety rather than profits. Over all, I will be hard pressed to find any other reptile store that I'll purchase an animal from after my experiences here!
google avatar

Yelp
This store is nuts! So many cool reptile bois. We came here on a snowy day to pass the time and were pleasantly surprised by the massive selection. We were looking to see some bearded dragons, but they were fresh out, so they offered to put us on a waiting list while they restocked on the little guys. It's clean, organized, and all the reptilians look like they're stoked to be there- at least that's the impression I got ;)
google avatar

Jolene K.

Yelp
I absolutely love this store. The employees are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I purchase feeders for my reptiles here. The supplies are high quality and fairly priced. The animals for sale are well cared for and healthy.
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice staff members and a killer selection of tarantulas. I've bought a few slings and a scorpion from this spot and have loved them. Absolutely the best pet store I've been to!
google avatar

Bryce S.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! The staff is wonderful, very knowledgeable and will help you with anything! The owners are amazing, always smiley and fun to talk to! They without question have the largest selection of reptiles in the Twin Cities area. And everything is very fairly priced. I won't go anywhere else now that I've been here! Set up an account with them under your phone number and you get a discount every so often from purchases. I go there alot for feeder rats and crickets.
google avatar

Natalie A.

Yelp
My son loves to just come and look at the animals. Great place for reptile enthusiasts and good for other pet owners as well.

Yelp
I been to this reptile store a couple of times and I have to say. The people there are really helpful. Always asking "if we need help?" and such. Even on the phone they are polite and absolutely helpful. Love this store would definitely come back!

Yelp
TCR is a great place for all your reptile needs! Over 4 years ago I purchased my first bearded dragon from them as a wee little baby. He has thrived and grown into a healthy boy. I also ended up adopting another TCR beardie from a friend and she's a big healthy girl as well. They have everything you need to keep a healthy reptile - tanks, lights, supplements, live feeders (crickets, various types of roaches, horn worms, even cups of phoenix worms), commercial diets (freeze dried etc), frozen furries, tank accessories, pretty much any kind of goody you would want for your scaly friend. For the most part you can find cheaper feeders online, but when you're in a pinch and need something NOW and not 4 days later, it's good to know they have what you need. I've always received prompt replies on Facebook when I post a question (usually about if they have horn worms in stock), and of course the staff in store is always very helpful. I've even done a feeder trade - I used to have my own colony of dubia roaches and they were multiplying faster than I could feed them to my dragons. I contacted TCR to see if they wanted some and would be willing to trade things like horn worms/supers, and they said no problem! I showed up with a big box full of roaches and the gal told the guy behind the counter "give her whatever she wants" ;) I suppose it does smell, but I wouldn't call it "horrendous", it pretty much smells like every other reptile store I've been in. They also have some niche style dog foods and treats, which I've never really looked closely at. Even if you don't own a reptile, it's always worth a stop just to look at all the cool snakes/lizards/frogs/turtles they have!
google avatar

Tou Y.

Yelp
Pro: some what a lot of stuffs like Snakes, lizards, spiders, frogs. Con: website is not up to date, the animals , some are pretty skinny , some don't even move , some don't have any sign or information on the glass, and if there is a tag , you'll have to squint to really read it just to figure out what was in the tank. With limited stores in the area, if you're looking , guess this is better then nothing Price on their stuffs is a bit high, like tanks are at lest 30% more then any stuffs you can get online . Lizards that I've look at are at lest 15-20% more then other places that I've seen. And not everyone know their stuffs , some are just there because it's a job.

Yelp
Knowledgeable, caring staff. Animals to look at and/or purchase. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a reptile or needing crickets or feeder mice or rats.

Yelp
I've been doing business here for 25 plus years. All the staff are very nice and knowledgeable. I absolutely would recommend this place to anyone

Amy C.

Yelp
This would be the best place if you're looking for reptile. They have everything- giant snakes, giant monitor, lizards, tutrtles ect. They also have Madagascar roaches, tarantulas, crickets, and many other exotic critters. Shopped here since I was a kid. The store used to be very interesting- from giant freshwater tank to macaws to rare fishes ect. ect. I used to shop here all the time when I used to lived near. It's sad they don't have fishes anymore. Wonder if they still have bunnies, chinchillas ect.
google avatar

Zachary S.

Yelp
A few things you should know. After being at the Ace Hotel in Portland we became obsessed with having our own terrarium in our living room. And when I say we I mean me. I don't know a thing about growing anything at all, but I am obsessed. My obsession took me to the Twin Cities Reptile store. They have it all. Except a giant round fishbowl with a small hole on the top. A couple came in asking if they have any frozen mice. Of course we do, he said! Don't go to the zoo, bring your kids here, they have the rare African Spurred Tortoise. As for a giant fishbowl, try Marshalls or another home store. This is what she told me.

Ellie Y.

Yelp
I checked out this place while picking up a 20-gallon long tank from somebody else and let's just say, it certainly lived up to my expectations! Good husbandry of all their animals and properly sized enclosures for each of them, healthy reptiles, and decent prices. I loved that there was a wide selection of animals to choose from and good, standard prices on each of the animals. The only reason i would rate four stars is some of the prices on the products (NOT the animals) were a little high. but that is completely understandable! regardless, i purchased a hide the first time i walked in there after wandering around the store staring at all the animals.
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
First off the smell IS horrendous, BUT I keep going back to get my sons crickets for his gecko because 1. Those crickets are well maintained and last a longtime compared to Petco. 2. Staff is very knowledgable and nice 3. You can sometimes see the hedgehogs! 4. Good prices I have to admit that both of my boys have gotten me to really watch the snakes and Think they're cool. No we're still not buying one.
google avatar

Hiroshi A.

Yelp
Pretty cool stuff! Definitely not a reptile fan, but awesome none the less! Everything from cute to eh???!!! Wanna see a three thousand dollars lizard? This is the place to find them!
google avatar

Nysa Z.

Yelp
Every time I have went here I have had a great experience. Their staff are very savy in the trade, give the best advice and my questions are always awnsered (correctly). For those who complain about the smell they are probably just smelling the live feeder mice in the back. Mice always reek no matter how often you clean their bedding. I actually don't find the smell that bad. *Side note, they sell live, frozen and fresh killed feeder rodents as well as all sizes of crickets, roaches and meal worms. Their stuff is a little more expensive than petco, but it is a specialty shop where you can find pretty much anything you will ever need for any reptile, amphibian or fish. They have stuff for birds, cats, dogs, fish, rabbits and other rodents too. Great tarantula, scorpian, and other bug selections as well. They have always offered to help me carry large terrariums or other heavy/bulky purchases to my vehicle. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Over all great service.
google avatar

Brittney P.

Yelp
I love this place. Every trip to this pet store instantly makes my day better. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They specialize in reptiles and other creepy crawlies, which takes some pretty specific knowledge. They do have some small fuzzy critters as well, the degus are so cute! I'm not sure what's up with other reviews commenting on the smell, it's a pet store that specializes in reptiles, and it smells like a pet store. What do you expect? They have a lot more pets than a large chain that mostly carries supplies (PetCo/Smart), so of course those big box stores aren't going to have much of a pet smell, they don't have that many pets! They have a huge variety of snakes, geckos, and other lizards, as well as tarantulas. They also carry some turtles and tortoises. I love their store pets, they have two large tortoises in a room with two large iguanas that are always basking in the heat lamp on top of the tortoises. The also recently got two breeder monitor lizards that are really cool and have a really nice enclosure. They also carry some small fuzzy critters, degus, chinchillas, hamsters, spiney mouse, rabbits and I think an occasional sugar glider. They have all your specialty pet needs. My boyfriend and I have four tortoises (various breeds), a rabbit, a tarantula, and a cat. We're in there at least once a week for crickets for the tarantula (since I don't like the idea of keeping our own) and various other pet supplies. I do wish they had a better cat selection so I could do all of our pet shopping in one spot, but it's not the end of the world.

Yelp
I purchased my Boa Constrictor, Belle, from TC Reptiles 15 years ago, and I still visit every few months to stock up on frozen rats for her. I buy the Jumbo Rats, which are essentially retired breeders. Hey, a girl's gotta eat. It's as close to a crypto-zoology destination as one can find in the area. For years, they had a one-eyed albino python that was at least 10 feet long. Today, I saw two giant tortoises mating (Have you heard the mating call of a tortoise?) and a variety of cockroaches for sale. Who BUYS cockroaches?! They make my skin crawl but I suppose some would say the same thing about my now 9 foot snake. They also had some kind of flying squirrels. The place is a dumpy and it smells, but I guess atmosphere isn't what they're going for. I enjoy looking around at all the creatures-creepy and fuzzy alike. The prices are fair and I can find most of what I need for my reptile. The staff is pretty well-informed too. I'd much rather support this place over PETCO/SMARTS any day.

Yelp
The best reptile shop in Minnesota hands down very healthy and high quality animals with right information really nice staff and i love my snake from there he is awesome and eats great

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend have been regulars at this store for a few years now. They are one of the only places we trust to buy our feeders for our snakes, tarantulas, centipede and bugs for our sugar gliders. They offer fresh killed mice/rats too which is awesome so we don't have to wait for them to thaw out as with frozen and we don't feed live. Everyone is also really knowledgeable about the animals they sell and if they don't have an answer they find it out. Everyone has been great there and I feel bad for forgetting his name but the tall guy with short hair is always fantastic and helps us with feeders and it's much appreciated. Also a huge thanks to Jeff today for helping us add a Western Hognose to our collection. He was extremely knowledgeable since he breeds them and answered all of my questions and made sure I knew my husbandry needs before leaving. We've also gotten several tarantulas from there and they've all done great. Thanks Bruce for keeping a great store for exotic needs and hiring great staff.

Yelp
Love this shop! Great place to go. All the employees are so knowledgeable and helpful. They're also nice and give great customer assistance. They give nice advice and tips as well when asked. I love how they're taking care of their reptiles! Again, great place to go. Would most definitely recommend everyone go and check them out.

Yelp
I love this place! I go about 2 to 3 times a week for feeders for my bearded dragons. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Their knowledge on the reptiles they sell along with feeders is amazing. The store is clean and kept well organized. They have a wide verity of reptiles to look at and purchase. I would definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
This is an awesome reptile store in the twincities area. It's like a snake zoo here, and the huge tortoises they have. oh and I love the sugar gliders they have =)
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Guys, I want to support you. I do. But you have got to keep the tanks and water a lot cleaner. I'd make this two stars after my last visit but, as a store, you still carry a wide selection of things I need. That being said, I can always get frozen mice online. So really. Fix this.
google avatar

Erica B.

Yelp
We bought our king snake from here a couple years ago and visit the place at least once a month to restock on frozen (and sometimes live) mice for our little guy. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. It is a great place to just go in and have a look around too! They have a lot of cool reptiles to look at. Kid friendly as well. We have also found that their prices on mice are a LOT cheaper than many chain pet stores around the cities.

Yelp
My son bought a corn snake here. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A nice selection of reptiles and accessories.

Yelp
Every time I go into this store, the animals are covered in mites and look under fed. I have asked several of the employees and they look at me like they are so confused. Fish tanks are disgusting. Many things are over priced.

Yelp
I'm repulsed and cannot help but get light-headed from the snakes in their cages. Overall, I am just not into any animals, reptiles, etc. That written, this is a great place for anyone into this sort of thing or kids who are super intrigued. It's a large space, tons to look at and helpful/knowledgeable staff. It's just off 280 and I always find parking. Alas, we went looking for the little turtles that they have at My Huong Kitchen, which are apparently only sold in Chicago or California so no purchase but a fun hour was had.

Yelp
Wow they have an amazing selection of animals, fish, and supplies! I'd go here before one of the major national chain stores. The cages and tanks are kept clean. They have a lot of reptiles, and reptiles smell, but other than that no complaints. Friendly and Knowledgable staff. The tortoises are pretty cool.

Yelp
The store is much larger than it looks from the outside. Huge back room with the largest supply of reptiles and amphibians in the area, and everything you need for live food. The staff were very accommodating, and they all know their stuff. Too often you'll go to a chain store where no questions can be answered-at this store, everyone has done their homework. I'd recommend Twin Cities Reptiles for anyone buying a reptile/amphibian, or for any pet owner.

Yelp
In general I like the store. They have a great selection of animals, feeders, and enclosures/related items. I have two major issues with the place. The first being that some of the animals are not in great condition. Now for the more apparent issue, AKA the one that prompted me to write this: the staff. In general they're all nice, engaging people. However some of them do not seem to be very educated about reptile husbandry. It would seem that some of these people are not really interested in reptiles, they just needed a job and saw that this place was hiring. Not that big of a deal. Some of the employees recommend practices that are known to be harmful to pets (two I hear a lot are the suggestion of using sand as a substrate and providing temperature ranges that are far from ideal). The other issue I have with the staff is that they can be rather impatient at times. On multiple occasions I have had staff members be condescending with me or act as though I couldn't possibly know what I'm talking about. Little do they know I've been keeping reptiles for over a decade. Today I made a phone call inquiring about the size of their rats. I asked her what the weight of the rat pups were in grams (not actually weight but mass). According to her measurement the pup weighed around two grams. That just doesn't make sense seeing as normally rat pups weigh in at around 10-15 times that weight. Now this could have been because A) she weighed out a pinky rat or B) operator error with the scale. That isn't what irritated me. What irritated me was the blatant lack of knowledge about the importance of mass in respect to providing a properly sized meal for a snake. During our conversation she made a few comments that made it seem to me that she thought I was a fool for using grams as a point of reference for feeder size and that I was a fool for using a term like rat pup. It's a pretty common phrase if you talk to any serious keepers. I found her attitude unpleasant, however in person she is quite pleasant. Also I don't see why everyone is complaining about the smell. It really isn't that bad. My basement smells fairly similar because it's where I keep all my reptiles as well as the feeder insects who are the real culprits in regard to odor.
