On the Grid : Cornersmith Cafe & Picklery

"Family run, community supporting, ethical and delicious. This is one of my favourite places to eat and one of my favourite businesses all round. The menu is completely seasonal and seriously good, and they trade for backyard produce from local residents to make their pickles with. When we visited they were on the lookout for 'plums, chillies and tomatoes'. Our home garden consists of one dead peace lilly so we generally make do with paying for our brunch. Make sure you also check out The Cornersmith Picklery - an open kitchen that makes pickles & mustards, sells to the public and runs classes. 441 Illawarra Rd Marrickville 2204 - definitely worth a visit." - The Laser Co

Been here a few times now for the Pasta Night and absolutely love it! Such good value for a set menu! Fresh pastas and salads are paired perfectly🧑‍🍳✨👌And Desserts are always quite the treat😋 Love the low key cosy industrial vibes too🤩

We went to celebrate a friend's birthday on Saturday night for their pasta night, the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, and the service was so lovely and accommodating. They appeared to cater to everyone's dietary requirements with ease and no fuss. Highly recommend.

Google
Loved their iced long black that had a refreshing fruity note and the hash brown. The portion is good, and the food is served fresh and beautifully on the plate. The servers were all friendly and after a satisfying meal, i ordered a cinnamon roll for takeaway by the recommendation, and I was shook of how dry and sandy it tasted. Could not swallow the pastry at all and had to discard which was disappointing. But in terms of everything else except that pastry (maybe it was a bad batch or older) the food and drinks were amazing. I would come back just for the savory dishes.

Unfortunately, this place doesn’t meet my standards. It’s disappointing because I’ve been wanting to visit for so long. I had coffee here once before, and it was great. I was also interested in trying their pasta night event. When I visited at the end of last year, they were making panettone for Christmas, and those were delicious—the pistachio one was amazing! I ordered two and picked them up, deciding to have breakfast there as well. Unfortunately, they didn’t have half of the menu available because they were preparing to close for the Christmas break. While I completely understand, it would’ve been nice if they had shared this on Instagram so customers knew in advance. I was really looking forward to trying their pancakes. Instead, I got a pastry, which was nice but didn’t quite meet my expectations. The chocolate was overwhelming—like eating a jar of Nutella. The breakfast sandwich was decent, but it wasn’t what I wanted that day, and I had no choice since there were only a few options. Overall, it was okay, but I don’t think I’ll be coming back.

Certainly! Here’s a review for dishes at **Two Chaps**, a popular vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurant in Sydney known for its creative, seasonal, and produce. Two Chaps is a gem for vegetarians, vegans, and anyone who appreciates fresh, thoughtfully prepared food. The menu is innovative, with a focus on seasonal produce and bold flavors.

I’ve been a regular to this place but today’s experience was pretty bad. 1. Asked for Oat latte due tot dairy allergy. They served normal milk coffee and when I told them, they took sometime to come back. Then the lady said that “I think it’s oat milk “ - which is not something you can do to a person who is dairy allergic. You can’t “think” and assume. Anyway they replaced the coffee after and it was then the right one. 2. For the sourdough crumpet, I told not to add the seaweed sauce as I can’t have it. I’m pretty sure the sauce on it was seaweed but they said it wasn’t. I left 70% of the food cuz it had that sauce. It was a bad experience and the lady didn’t even bother asking if the meal was okay esp I told her it has the sauce I said I didn’t want. I’m not coming back again.

I am so hungry, the food is taking more than one hour after order time to come. We got here at 11am and got seated around 11:30am, and put in our order at 11:36am (receipt time). I’m writing this review at 12:44pm, still waiting for my food. Out of our whole group one person has received their meal that came around 12:30pm - a sandwich. At this point she’s already done. Everyone’s food was on the table 12:55pm. To be fair, the waitress warned there was a long wait but did not specify how long. We gave her this feedback and she said it takes this long because they have two chefs, makes sense the name of this is Two Chaps. But they have around 20 tables… I had the eggplant burger and that was nice but definitely not worth an hour wait. Two hours if we include the time to be seated. We watched the table behind us cancel their order and leave. They sat down after us.

I recently returned to Two Chaps after visiting three years ago, and it was just as delicious as I remembered. Every time I come here, I love the relaxed Aussie vibe and the focus on healthy food. You can really tell they put a lot of thought into their dishes, which is why I love this place. The variety of pastries to enjoy with my coffee is another big reason to recommend it. I highly, highly recommend Two Chaps!

Yelp
Seriously tasty vego food. I made a booking early in the week for a Friday night dinner, it was packed and was probably lucky to get spots that late. There was 6 of us and we went with the set menu, I would recommend that so you can try everything. The bread, cheese and dip at the start was good, the salads were simple but tasted great but the highlights were the pastas. The Charcoal Raviolo and Saffron Pappardelle were so good, really tasty sauces with great texture. It is BYO so make sure to grab a bottle, if you forgot The Henson is up the road.

Yelp
Great vibe and friendly staff. Love the light filtered in at the back. Avo on toast was yummy but would have been nice to enjoy it with my coffee. Finished my brekkie before I got my coffee or water:( Now on my way with my coffee to go. Didn't make did relaxing Sunday morning brekkie. Maybe next time. Already know what I want to order. The menu is amazing and they accom. Vegans

Yelp
4 of us met for breakfast and we shared the Hash browns, green goddess sauce, sauteéd tuscan kale, fried brussel sprouts and poached eggs 8/10. The Sourdough crumpets with harissa and tomato braised butter beans, tuscan kale, Vannella buffalo feta and a poached egg 8/10. Avocado toast with beetroot hummus, smoked feta, chermoula and pine nut dukkha 8/10. All were very tasty. We finished with a French toast of croissant loaf with banana, house notella, honeycomb, creme fraiche and blood orange syrup 8/10 and of course lots of coffee. Everything was delicious. Just over $100 for 4 is not bad value.

Yelp
Awesome food and cool ambiance situated in a converted warehouse with open kitchen. They have great selection of fancy sounding vegetarian dishes. The food is very flavoursome and well balanced. We tried the mushroom burger and sourdough crumplet. Both were fantastic! I liked that they had melted haloumi on the humongous mushroom and the chilli strips on the salad to spice it up. The raspberry crumplets were sensational. The honey infused sour cream balanced out the sweetness of the poached peach. They also added some crunchy pistachio as contrast to the crumplets texture. We were so impressed that we went back and got ourselves some of their burnt butter choc chip cookies (they sell out real quickly too!) Ps. If it gets too busy, the Henson's next door is pretty good too.

Yelp
This place is simply the best. I just can't go past it for breakfast or brunch. Everything I've eaten here has blown my mind. Definitely the best vegetarian food I've eaten anywhere, you just don't even miss the meat. I also went with a group of 7 for the 5 course dinner last Thursday AMAZING!! Simply stunning food, generous, delicious, interesting & outstanding value. $55 inc corkage. So so good. Oh and I also rate their sourdough & croissants as my Sydney favorites. Staff are super chilled & friendly & I'm lucky enough to be able to walk here. Wish I could rate it higher

Yelp
I love this place! Seriously a massive fan! So this place is a Vegetarian/vegan cafe - and speaking as a non-vegetarian, food here is amazing. You don't even notice that there is no meat - and I say this as a serious meat eater. Everything is also baked fresh, making the bread brilliant but also the dessert to die for. I think what makes his place even more awesome, is that they also do great coffee. Sometimes you feel that you have to compromise good coffee for good food. But not here! The coffee is slightly on the weaker side, so you might have to order a double shot if you like your coffee on the stronger side. But other than that, it is a good cup of coffee. Now because this place is good, it is generally busy. So be prepared to wait for a table. It is stock standard for this place. But it is worth the wait.

Yelp
Worth checking! Two chaps is a really good café. The food is fresh and tasty, with some creative combinations. They also sell delicious bread. Love the spicy chai they do. The only reason I give them 3 stars is because I think that, since it opened, the menu has changed a bit... and I honestly preferred the original dishes. Also price have increased and, although food is of great quality, it feels a bit overpriced. But I'll still be going back there for sure. Go early, it's always packed. It closes early too. My advice is to arrive 30min before closure as staff stops serving.

Yelp
Decided at the last minute to go out for our anniversary (we just got married, so the anniversary of when we started going out seems somehow like why am I telling you this? sorry) Rocked up at Two Chaps just after opening, and was told they were full. Damn. But it was okay, because the lovely staff grabbed a little table and some stools and set us up near the counter, and we were sorted! (I should add, several people showed up after us and there were literally no tables left - so I would recommend booking). Was told as they brought out water that they are BYO, so I ran up to the Henson bottle shop for a bottle of wine, and then we ordered the set menu and the food started coming... and just kept coming. Olives to start... and then cheese and bread with a delicious capsicum dip... and then three different types of pasta (of which the Beetroot Gigli was the winner - so delish). And then two desserts (one of which was shaped like a swan). So very much food, and it was all delicious. Will definitely be going back again.

Yelp
Looks like a warehouse trapped behind a garage. Let's keep this short: The focaccia!! It's so soft and fluffy; like a pillow. Eat them and eat lots. I think I had one too many

Yelp
We did the sharing set menu for dinner, everything was delicious. Must try for breakfast at some point.

Yelp
Very limited menu so it's not really a great place for breakfast but a very cool fit out in a warehouse environment

Yelp
Two Chaps does dinners now! Impossible to contact them about reservations or hours or anything really, and the service, while very earnest and well meaning, was a bit choppy... The food was good. Pastas are very rich and yummy. It was a nice experience over all and the place at night has this casual hipster chic ambiance that is really pleasant and relaxing. I would definitely come back. Recommend!

Yelp
This is my favourite place in Sydney. The fried rice bowl is mind blowingly tasty for breakfast and their coffee is amazing. They do dinner some nights but I haven't tried it yet. Perfection

Yelp
Two Chaps is a great spot to come for a coffee or breakfast. Lively mini donut samples plus lots of other treats. The place has a great vibe thanks to the friendly staff.

Yelp
YUM. Have been here for breakfast and dinner and both were so delicious. Great service. Recommend going with a big group for dinner so you can get one of everything on the menu and share.

Yelp
Only been twice but the coffee is superb. Service can be slow or fast depending on your server. They've started up meals on Thursday and Friday from 6 - 930p.m.. Looks like pasta dishes type of deal, which might be worth trying out. Very rustic.

Yelp
Buzzing cafe tucked away in side street. Loads of funky food and a nice sunny spot out the front! No wonder it's become a local hot spot!

Yelp
Great place. Awesome coffee. Delicious veggie options. Could suit small groups well. Must try dinner.

Shauna J.

Yelp
Brilliant food, great vegan options and delicious coffee and those vegan donuts .. yum!! The chairs are a bit uncomfy but it's no biggie.

Jessica L.

Yelp
The hash browns are a must try!!!! all of the food is delicious and filling, as new take of vegetarian food! The service is also excellent!

Yelp
Not for the first time I once again attempted to have a coffee and cake at two chaps, but as in my previous attempts I was turned away, it seems they are perpetually in a state of 'just closing'. As a local I embrace the ideal of supporting local small business, fortunately for me there are many other local cafes only too eager to supply me with coffee and cake in exchange for some currency, so two chaps 1 less customer for you and 1 more for your competition.
