The Best Walking Tours in New Orleans (Updated 2025)

"For small-group, thematic walks covering much of the city, I recommend Two Chicks Walking Tours; they offer French Quarter and Garden District tours as well as themed options like the Brothels, Bordellos, and Ladies of the Night tour, and one of the guides, Christine Miller, has lived in New Orleans for 30 years and knows the city intimately (tours from $30 USD)." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
We heard great things about Two Chicks Walking Tours and our tour lived up to the reputation. Our guide was Dannel and she was super knowledgeable and had a passion for all things New Orleans including the Garden District. We learned so much about its rich history, saw some stunning homes as well as the cemetery. We stopped at The Rink mid way in the tour to cool off and hydrate. Fun time! Highly recommend!

Charlotte F.

Google
Sarah was fantastic on the French quarter tour. She’s an archivist and was born and raised here so she was super knowledgeable. Her pace was good and she answered all questions including about football and other New Orleans questions.

Nate

Google
We did two tours actually, both with Karen. We did the streetwalker tour in the quarter and it was great. She was very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The next day we did the garden district tour which I personally enjoyed more. Again Karen was very knowledgeable and The homes and sights were just what we were looking for.

Ambika T.

Google
I had an amazing tour of the Garden District with Dannel. She was extremely knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Unlike other tour guides, she wasn’t putting on a whole performance, she was more like an enthusiastic college professor eager to share her love and knowledge of the city, its history, culture, and architecture. We had a nice small group so the whole tour felt so personal. I would definitely do another tour with Two Chicks next time I visit!

Mary

Google
Had a tremendous experience and would highly recommend! Organized a Nov birthday trip to New Orleans for a group of family and friends. We did two tours with Two Chicks and were lucky enough to have Dannel as our guide for both! Our first tour was the French Quarter Walking tour, then two days later we did the Highlights of the Garden District. Dannel was very knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the history of this fascinating city. Tours had a great pace and included breaks and time for questions. Dannel was personable and engaging - even provided a great selection for lunch after the FQ tour (Napolean House)! As I was planning our trip, I selected Two Chicks for tours as it seemed we would have a knowledgeable guide who would cover high points and history with a real passion for the city...our experience did not disappoint! Tours were easy to book, and as the one organizing the trip, I appreciated the level of communication, professionalism and follow up. Thanks Dannel for a great experience!

Google
Great little walking tour in New Orleans Garden District! Our guide was Bonnie and we loved her! She was very informative on the culture and history and had her own little stories she’d throw in. You stop halfway for a drink/shopping/bathroom break and we opted for The Rink. Also highly recommend the bookshop there! It’s the cutest store!! Would absolutely do another tour with them!

Anne H.

Google
Our walking tour of the Garden District with Karen on June 11 was super fun and interesting! She was the perfect blend of knowledge and enthusiasm and was a pleasure to spend the morning with. It was extra cool that she’s a NOLA native and really knows her City!

Michele K.

Google
We loved our Garden District Walking Tour led by Dannel. She was a very informative and interesting guide and kept us moving to shady spots along the route. Information pre-event was very clear and everything ran on time the day of the tour. The stop at The Rink was a nice touch at the half way point to cool down, get a beverage or use the restroom. We learned a lot and had fun too!

Nicole W.

Yelp
Great information, great tour, and great company! We loved the garden district tour and would recommend to anyone visiting New Orleans

Yelp
Took the Garden District tour with Karen with my mom and we loved it! My mom is often very critical but she loved Karen's tour. My mom also has difficulty walking but it was a slow enough paced tour that she was able to keep up. Karen made all the stories interesting -rich in history and neighborhood gossip. She managed to keep everyone engaged and could answer the questions well. She was also very funny and had good quips! Love the tour and will highly recommend.

Yelp
Dannal (rhymes with flannel) was absolutely phenomenal! We took the French Quarter After Dark tour and it was everything I hoped for--rich in history, beautifully told stories, and a deep reverence for the powerful women who helped shape New Orleans into the city it is today. Listening to Dannal speak transported me. Her storytelling instantly brought back my love for Southern Gothic tales--moody, vivid, and emotionally rich. I found myself completely lost in her words, visualizing every detail like I was stepping into another era. If you're searching for a tour that goes beyond the surface, one that feels like an experience and not just a walk through town--this is the one. Don't miss it!

Yelp
Great tour of the Garden District. Sure you could walk around on your own, but the history and insider NOLA knowledge was great to have. Karen was a knowledgeable and fun guide. She even followed up with recommendations post tour and I'm reading a book she recommended as we speak. Loved that she had ponchos for us too in the rain.

Yelp
I did a walking tour of Carrollton with Emily and was blown away by her knowledge of the area. As someone who grew up in and still lives in the neighborhood, I was absolutely fascinated with the facts and stories Emily shared. I've not stopped talking about this tour since I took it. I hope one day there's a Part 2 that explores the history of Carrollton on the lake side of Oak St. Thank you for a wonderful morning exploring the neighborhood, Emily!

Yelp
Had a great garden district tour with Bonnie! She was very knowledgable about the history in the garden district and new orleans as a whole and told us all about the architecture and notable figures who had lived in the area. I thought the tour was a good length (around 2-2.5 hours) both time and distance wise. Would recommend booking with Two Chicks and especially Ms. Bonnie!

Charles L.

Yelp
We enjoyed Emily and her tour of the garden district. Her knowledge of the city is outstanding. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. Thank you all so much.

Yelp
Great meet up location that was easy to get to and the guude connected by text with detailed location information. Its as a great day for a walking tour of the garden district and our guide was personable and extremely knowledgeable about all of our locations. Pace was great, gentle walk with plenty of stops as we heard information about each location. I would choose this touring company again.

Yelp
We were staying in the Garden District and wanted to get the lowdown on the neighborhood, so naturally, we booked a walking tour -- and it did not disappoint! Tickets were about $37 each, and honestly, worth every penny. Our guide, Grace, was fantastic -- super knowledgeable about the Garden District's architecture and history, with plenty of fun facts sprinkled in to keep things lively. The tour ran about two hours, not too strenuous, and they even built in a 10-minute break about halfway through (which we definitely appreciated). But here's where things got freaky -- Grace casually mentioned spending summers in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Well, I spent summers on an obscure little island in Fairhaven, too! Turns out, Grace's family had a summer cottage just a few doors down from mine. I mean, what are the odds?! I've never met anyone from outside Massachusetts who even knows about that island, let alone basically shared a street with me. Coolio, indeed! Anyway, back to the tour -- Grace struck the perfect balance between informative and entertaining. The two hours flew by, and we left feeling like Garden District experts (okay, maybe semi-experts). Highly recommend this tour -- and if you get Grace, you're in for a treat - though I think she was subbing for a regular tour guide (though you wouldn't know it)

Yelp
I couldn't be happier with our experience with Christine on this walking tour of the Garden District. Christine not only knew the history going back to its beginnings but was also able to share the more recent history from someone who lives there. She provided a nice mix of content- the origins, the architecture, stories of some of the most famous homes to the best local shops and restaurants, etc. We had a good tour of the French Quarter with one of the "bigger" companies but found this small group tour with a true local even better.

Kathy S.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed our Garden District tour in NOLA. Bonnie was our guide and she was very well versed in the history of the city, architecture styles, and history of the beautiful homes. Highly entertaining experience.

Gayla S.

Yelp
I went on the "Brothels, Bordellos, and Ladies of the Night" with three friends. Karen was our tour guide and she was amazing. She knows so much about the history of brothels and prostitution in New Orleans and made the tour informative and fun. I wasn't sure what to expect from the store but was so glad that a friend invited me to join her. It made for a fun Saturday evening.

Kaitlin H.

Yelp
Took a group of friends on the Garden District Tour with Karen. She was just perfect, brought so many interesting facts about the area, the architecture, and the history. You could feel how she loved the area and was proud to share it with us. At the end of the tour, she gave some fantastic food recs in the area. We also took the French Quarter Tour with Dannal, this was a great part of our trip and brought so much of the history of the city to life while we walked the streets and up to the river. It was fun to hear a less sensationalized background than the ghost tour we took around some of the same locations. Both ladies followed up with not only location recs, but also book recs that were mentioned on the tour and local resources for live music around the city. These tours were a highlight of our trip. I also liked that they cap their tours at a lower number than others, which makes it more enjoyable. I would take a Two Chicks Walking tour any time I come back!

Yelp
We did the Highlights of the New Orleans Garden District Walking Tour and had the best time. Our tour guide was Bonnie, who was knowledgeable, engaging and attentive. I learned a lot about the history of the homes and the history of New Orleans via the homes built. I plan to visit again and will sign up for another Two Chicks walking tour when I do.

Yelp
New Orleans Garden District Tour by Two Chicks Walking Tours was the last tour I did during my short stay in New Orleans. [Price]: The 2-hour scheduled tour was appromxately $32 (fees included) per person. [Parking]: I was able to find free street parking (St Andrew Street) 3 blocks away from the meeting spot (PJs Coffee House on 2140 Magazine Street.) The area is fairly safe and I was able to park for 3 hours without any issues. [Logistics]: I got a call from our tour guide Karen 4 hours before the scheduled time because of possible rain in the afternoon and she wanted to see if our party can reschedule to next day. I ended up calling office number [(504) 975-4386] 90 minutes later because Karen couldn't pick up (she was doing a tour.) I told the staff to continue with the 2 PM tour as our party has a same-day departure flight at 6:45 PM and won't be in New Orleans next day. Karen sent out a reminder text 2 hours before the scheduled tour time. Expect uneven pavement so wear comfortable shoes. [Tour]: Our guide Karen was accommodative as I told her about our 6:45 PM flight and the game plan was putting a full stop of the tour at 3:30 PM so that our party can beat 4 PM New Orleans traffic & get to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on-time. Luckily Karen was able to speed up the whole tour due to a small group and was able to complete the entire tour in record time - 85 minutes! Below are few of highlights for the tour: * Car accident: Funny how the tour started with a bang and apparently there was a car accident near the meeting spot. Involved vehicles were still at the intersection after we completed the tour and I like how the guide said it looked like a fender-bender when one of the cars was partially T-boned & police was nowhere to be seen. * 1331 First Street: House owned by Sharonda Anderson, the mother of Pelicans star Zion Williamson. It was originally built in 1869 and is considered one of the city's purest examples of Italianate architecture. * 1315 First Street: The Joseph Carroll House. * 1420 First Street: The home where NFL football stars Eli & Peyton Manning grew up. * 2340 Prytania Street: Thomas Toby-Westfeldt House. * 2406 Prytania Street: The honorary French Consulate - still owns by France government. * 2504 Prytania Street: Women's Opera Guild House. * 1448 Fourth Street: Colonel Short's Villa. Apparently the house was recently sold to a business owner who sold tons of fried chickens (unconfirmed - maybe I misheard the story.) * The Rink Shopping Center: Our group had a quick 5-minute restroom break. * Lafayette Cemetery No. 1: It is one of the oldest city governed cemeteries in New Orleans and the cemetery is currently closed for public tour. * 2707 Coliseum Street: Benjamin Button House from the 2009's film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." * 2627 Coliseum Street: Actress Sandra Bullock's Garden District home. Apparently Google street view blurred out the house. * 2425 Coliseum Street: Actor John Goodman's Garden District home. Our party caught a glimpse of John Goodman's back and his dog as someone drove an Audi and dropped an item off. * 1410 Jackson Avenue: Our tour ended at Buckner Mansion and was featured on American Horror Story Season 3 (more commonly referred to as "Coven".) This is the mansion where Miss Robichaux's Academy was filmed. I really appreciate Karen for finishing the tour 30 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled 2-hour tour on a cold & rainy day and our party was able to get to the airport without a hitch with smooth traffic at 3:45 PM on a weekday. Overall it was a solid and informative architectural tour!

Yelp
Christine gave the best possible walking tour of the Garden District. Her intimate knowledge of New Orleans and the architecture in the city made this morning so interesting. Highly recommend exploring New Orleans with Christine.

Yelp
Two Chicks Walking Tours has a perfect rating for a reason--because it's an excellent tour! A talented storyteller is a must for tours that convey the history behind the sites. Personable, affable, and very knowledgeable, Christine is adept at moving the group to each home on the tour while sharing information about the architecture and grounds, while also skillfully weaving in intriguing stories of past and current residents, and information related to the history, culture, and lore of the city. The degree of detail is just enough to be interesting without feeling overwhelmed by facts and figures. Questions are welcomed, and the tour moves at an effective, but certainly not rushed, pace. Great tour to take photos of the amazing architectural eras. I learned a lot that I will remember from this thoughtfully organized tour through the beautiful Oak lined streets of the Garden District. For sure, put The Two Chicks on your list of tours to take during your visit. Helpful advice on where to catch lunch and shop after the tour, too.

Belinda A.

Yelp
My husband and were visiting from Texas. We decided to take a brothel tour, our tour guide was Karen. I must say we have visited New Orleans many times and have been on a lot of tours but this one was our favorite. Karen was an excellent in her knowledge. I highly recommend this tour especially if you can request Karen. We will definitely tell all of our friends who go to visit to check y'all out.

Norman A.

Yelp
The tour was highly informative about not only the houses in the Garden District but also about the history of New Orleans. Great anecdotal stories about the people who live there currently and in the past. I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
Bonnie, our guide was great, balancing history and who's who of celebrity residents. She also followed on topics of interest. She added notes about the flora.

Lisa F.

Yelp
This was my second time doing a two chicks tour of the Garden District. The first time, three years prior, I had Betsy for a tourguide, and this time Dannal. They are both wonderful. They each have their own stories and style, so although there were similar stops and information, there were definitely new things learned doing it a second time with a different guide. Thanks to two chicks from two chicks for the great experiences!

Jen H.

Yelp
Sarah was an amazing tour guide. This was my first trip to New Orleans and this tour gave me so much historical detail. I was walking around with my friends and telling them what I had learned on my tour earlier that day.
google avatar

Molly S.

Yelp
I did both the garden tour and the French Quarter stroll (two separate, two hour tours) and was fortunate enough to have Karen as my guide on both tours. When I booked my first one, they also gave you a 20% discount off the second one. This company intentionally keeps their groups smaller (my tours, respectively, had 7 and 6 people) so you can ask questions, hear, and get to know the others, if you choose. Karen was knowledgeable, funny, just saucy and salty enough, and really pulled together two very informative, entertaining and totally satisfying tours. I would highly recommend and just wish I had more time here to pick up a couple of their other ones.

Jason C.

Yelp
fantastic tour! Karen was amazing. Her knowledge of the Quarter and the city is amazing. I highly recommend her to anybody coming to town.

April W.

Yelp
The Highlights of the Garden District tour was informative, fun, and full of context. I loved the history and the connections made between architecture and life. Grace made it fun and provided lots of food for thought as well. Unfortunately, we scheduled the tour on our last day in New Orleans but I brought home suggestions of movies and documentaries to watch to keep the New Orleans spirit in mind. Definitely one of the best tours I have ever done on a visit.

Andrew V.

Yelp
Me and my group of friends had the pleasure of a Garden District walking tour with Bonnie today! What a great way to see one of the most beautiful parts of New Orleans with a fantastic guide! Bonnie was fun, knowledgeable, and took us on a great historic and scenic two hour walk. Thanks!!

Gabby E.

Yelp
Went with our family of all walking abilities and had a great time from ages 13-60! The expertise of our guide was too notch. You can can she loves the town so much and her stories were very interesting. A 2 hour walking tour seemed daunting but even my teenagers loved it. Highly recommend

Andrea H.

Yelp
We had the BEST time with Karen on Friday, January 31st, 2025. She was extremely entertaining and knowledgeable. She talked about a lot of things that we did not know about in NOLA and sparked an interest in us to go to the Storyville museum, where we told them that we heard about the museum from Two Chicks. Awesome tour!

Natalie S.

Yelp
My family and I did a walking tour of the New Orleans Garden district. It was really interesting and I learned a lot. Our tour guide has a lot of knowledge of the history of the area and architecture of the homes. She also was enthusiastic and entertaining. I highly recommend them.
google avatar

catherine c.

Yelp
Hopper was knowledgeable, engaging and funny and we learned a lot about NOLA in a short period of time! And he recommended Cafe Amelie for lunch which was a perfect choice - charming and delicious!

Kate B.

Yelp
The Garden District walking tour was interesting, informative and fun. Our tour guide Christine was terrific! She shared details about many homes and sites in the district, with insights about NOLA history and geography that gave context. it was a comfortable, accessible walk. So nice to be with a small group (7 People). Great group size for questions & answers. Bonus - Christine gave recommendations for local restaurants, so we had a delicious post-tour lunch, thanks to her. Recommend Two Chicks tours to NOLA visitor!

Cheryl ..

Yelp
Christine is a phenomenal tour guide. She has the perfect balance between knowledge explanation and humor. I was able to book the tour last minute and she does not disappoint. I highly recommend this tour or any of the others offered.

Laurie D.

Yelp
I loved the Garden District Tour with Two Chicks Walking Tours. It was so informative and I loved learning about the architectural diversity. Christine is so lovely and knowledgeable. I could not have asked for a better tour experience. Absolutely recommend if you are visiting or live in this beautiful city.

Leah G.

Yelp
Staff were awesome, saw a lot, tour ends in a different area, be aware of that. Sidewalks are very uneven, many trip hazards. No access into cemetary. Lots of places to eat and shop.

Dawna C.

Yelp
Karen was a great guide through the French Quarter. We enjoyed the history, humor, added knowledge & relaxed feeling of the tour. Thanks Karen!

Mon B.

Yelp
Christine from Two Chicks Walking was our guide. Her presentation was informative, interesting and exciting. I just wanted to learn more. The pace was casual and laid back-no rushing from spot to spot. Our group size was intimate allowing us to easily hear what she was saying and we had the opportunity to ask questions. Christine's speaking style is very comfortable, not the rapid fire speech of other tour guides. We did the tour in the morning, there was a comfort stop for water and bathroom break. Unfortunately, we were unable to go into the Lafayette Cemetery as the city has now prohibited that. Not a biggie for us, as I had been in it before. The price was worth every penny. I would do this tour again. Incidentally, we had to rebook this tour as there was a hurricane 2 days prior. Two Chicks Walking easily accommodate the change and I really appreciated that flexibility.
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
First time in NOLA and so glad my friend and I booked this tour. We came in December and the weather was nippy and Karen, our tour guide, was very aware of how cold we were. She made sure we were as comfortable as possible. We booked the evening tour, covering madames and brothels. It was a fun tour, Karen was very knowledgeable and passionate about the topics we covered and we walked a decent part of French Quarter. She didn't try to sell us anything and she didn't take us anywhere that we were pressured to buy or purchase anything. DEFINITELY coming back to NOLA and definitely going to book any other tours Karen hosts. She was fantastic!
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
We didn't know exactly what to expect when we booked this tour. Betsy was our guide and she did a phenomenal job! She gave us such great history of the city, the development of the garden district, the way burials work in the cemeteries, and the history of some of the most amazing houses. I highly recommend using Two Walking Chicks Tours!

M P.

Yelp
We loved our walking tour of the Garden District with Karen! She was incredibly knowledgeable of the area and houses. She connected the history of the area to other parts of the city we had seen and people/events we might know of. She was incredibly considerate of the stroller in our group making sure to point out tricky spots in the sidewalk and leading us to walk in smoother areas. It was a bit rainy on our tour but the tour was so enjoyable that we didn't mind getting wet.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
We went on the Garden District walking tour with Deanna. She was amazing! The best tour guide we've had!
google avatar

Mariah L.

Yelp
I had a great time on my Garden District tour with Betsy, our tour guide, who was interesting, informative and kept us going at just the right pace. It was an excellent overview of NOLA history, some architecture, and some local insight/gossip. I would highly recommend Two Chicks tours, they seemed very current, accurate and progressive!

Raeann J.

Yelp
Was lucky enough to score a private tour with Cristine. This tour was perfect for a first timer to New Orleans. I got a great overview of places to go back to on my own, several mini history lessons and met some really cool people! And best of all - she followed up wth me after the tour to see if I needed any additional help finding anything! I am so glad I chose Two Chicks Walking Tours!

Bobbie G.

Yelp
My son and I had a great time learning about the Garden District of New Orleans. We loved seeing the house that inspired Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, Lafayette Cemetery No.1, and lots of other interesting things! Worth every penny! The guide was so friendly and knowledgeable. 10/10. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Amber M.

Yelp
I cannot recommend the Garden District tour enough. We had so much fun listening to her and seeing the beautiful houses. The cemetery was closed unfortunately still from Covid, but we still got to hear history and get pics at the gate. I wish we'd used them for more tours. Highly recommend!!

Mendi B.

Yelp
Deanna our tour guide was wonderful! So knowledgeable and personable. We were a small group, and it was great to have more of her individual attention. I have been walking through the Garden District so many times on my own. Never took a tour before. I'm so glad I did with Deanna. I learned so many new things. I loved the history behind the houses, traditions, and culture of the Garden District and New Orleans. The tour reinforced my love for the city! Deanna even offered to help track down another copy of a picture of one of my favorite New Orleans restaurants that's no longer in business. I lost the one I had in a house fire. Touched my heart. Highly recommend! Thanks again Deanna!

Yelp
This was a fantastic way to see the Garden district on foot. The guide, Karen, was super knowledgeable, funny and accommodating of questions and late arrivées who had gotten lost on the way. This was really a great way to explore the Garden District-- highly recommend.

Harriet B.

Yelp
Booked the Garden District tour with Dannel and she did a great job. Very informative

Janine L.

Yelp
Karen was so incredibly knowledgeable and made the 2 hours fly by - this tour was intimate and allowed her to personalize what she focused on.

Patti B.

Yelp
This tour was very informative and great fun. Betsy was very friendly and did her research. A bit of an architectural and historical tour all together. The morning tour was perfect for avoiding the heat.
