We visited Ubud Health Spa this afternoon because we were really looking forward to a good, relaxing massage. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be quite disappointing.
When we arrived, things were already a bit confusing and not what we had requested. After some back-and-forth, they eventually said they could offer us a 90-minute massage. We agreed and were taken to the beds together.
However, after about half an hour, it felt more like gentle stroking than an actual massage. We gave some feedback and asked if they could apply more pressure or adjust the technique, but it didn’t really improve. My girlfriend eventually stopped and told them she wanted to end the massage because it simply wasn’t what she had asked for. I continued, and my massage was fine, but hers was definitely not.
The staff apologized and told us we would only need to pay for half an hour for her, which seemed fair. But when we went to the counter, they presented a bill for two full 90-minute massages. We explained what the therapist had told us, and they didn’t deny it, but it still took a strange turn. In the end, we had to pay for half an hour for her—but even that amount didn’t match one-third of the price. They added some extra charges that didn’t make sense.
All in all, it was a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this spa based on today’s visit.
