US Davis Tahoe City Field Station
Came across US Davis Tahoe City Field Station during my 10-day stay at Lake Tahoe for working company retreat. UC Davis holds special place in my heart. Got excited! Returned twice to check it out and take photos.
Walked around the native plant demonstration garden, read all the posted info, in support of environmental research, preserving Lake Tahoe natural ecology & education center.
"This is the place to explore, discover and learn about what we can do to keep Tahoe blue."
Pretty important place, if you ask me!
There's an outdoor pathway around the building and the demonstration garden with native plants. It makes sense to go native, because native plants thrive in natural soil and climate without much of a special effort, extra watering, or fertilization with chemicals, plus they are adopted to native pests!
Ericsson Education Center is focused on protective and restorative efforts for Lake Tahoe ecology. It was still closed down for COVID when I visited.
There's also Bill Combs Memorial Boathouse on the property. He was a prominent Lake Tahoe advocate who served as a board member for various foundations and helped raise funds for Tahoe research and education.
The boats and equipment are used to study the root causes of the decline in Lake Tahoe legendary clarity.
I would definitely visit again when I'm back in this area. Location: northbound of Tahoe City on Hwy 28 to Dollar Point.
I presume they will keep pre-pandemic work hours for indoor exhibits when the field station re-opens: 8am - 6pm Memorial Day through Labor Day.
If you prefer a guided tour, they are given on Saturdays 10am - 2pm and could be arranged by calling 775-881-7566 or via email tercinfo@ucdavis.edu.

"Aggie Fight Song"
Lift up your voices, now's the time to sing
This is the day the Victory Bell will ring
Loyal Aggies, all for one
Never stopping, 'till we've won
Because the Mustang will show our team the way to fight,
Charging the enemy with all his might
Let's go, Let's win, today's the day
The Aggies will Fight, Fight, Fight!
