10 Most Instagrammable Places in San Diego

"An iconic wooden pier that makes a classic Southern California photo and also serves as one of the nation’s largest research piers; visitors can observe abundant sea life and watch surfers paddling by from the sand or beneath the structure." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. The view here is absolutely stunning. The coastline and waves are incredibly calming, and the sky looks beautiful at any time of day. It’s a perfect place to take a peaceful walk, enjoy the ocean breeze, and appreciate the natural scenery. Highly recommended for anyone visiting La Jolla.

My favorite place to surf is Northside of the pier. The tide pools are also great, sometimes you can find giant starfish between the rocks. The Christmas lights on the pier at this time of year are very festive. I love visiting on the weekends and in the early mornings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ La Jolla Shores near UCSD and Scripps is absolutely beautiful! The sand is soft, the water is clean, and the views are stunning. It’s the perfect spot whether you’re relaxing on the beach or catching some waves. A favorite destination in San Diego for both locals and visitors – highly recommended for surfing, strolling, or just soaking up the sun!

Under the pier is a popular place to take photos. On Sunday, there were about 10 groups taking photos there including a wedding party. The only watch out is parking. The closest parking is for the school UCSD. Some lots are restricted. We found one available to the public on weekends & holidays.

This is one of my favorite spots in all of SD! If you get the chance to see the Scrippshenge in May or August, it’s a bucket list moment!

The UCSD Scripps Pier is a fascinating and iconic landmark located in La Jolla. Operated by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, it’s not just a picturesque spot but also a vital research facility. Built in 1988 to replace the original 1916 structure, the pier is used for ocean and atmospheric research, contributing significantly to the scientific community. While the pier itself is not open to the public, its striking architecture and location make it a favorite for photography and quiet reflection. The surrounding area offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, especially at sunset when the pier’s silhouette creates a dramatic scene. It’s also a popular spot for surfers and beachgoers, with La Jolla Shores Beach just a short walk away.

Scripps Pier is the best beach in San Diego! Every time I come here the scenery always changes and it looks different. I'm a local and I photograph the pier at different seasons and am still amazed by beautiful it looks. High or low tide, sunrise or sunset, summer or winter, anytime of the year it's beautiful here!
