Perfect location steps from Ueno station and at the edge of a nice, quiet neighborhood. Great service and attention in English by the staff. Lobby has free filtered water and a coin laundry machine. Our room was comfortable but a little tight. If you're over 6 feet or 185cm tall, the bathroom in particular may be a minor inconvenience.

Located just steps from Ueno Station, the hotel offers incredibly convenient transit access. A 7-Eleven is only a two-minute walk away, and we found it handy to stock up on snacks for the next day and keep them in the mini fridge—perfect for saving time in the mornings. Our room was spotless, and we enjoyed the complimentary coffee each morning. We would totally stay here again!

Stayed 4 nights. Room is small but that is to be expected. I will say this hotel was very clean which is crucial for me. Location is great - a few minutes from Ueno Station and from the Keisei Skyliner station. The only complaint I have is the first night the towels smelled a little mildew-y but the following nights they smelled fine.

I stayed at Ueno Touganeya Hotel during the cherry blossom season, and it was the perfect choice for my Tokyo trip. The hotel is conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from Ueno Station, which made getting around the city extremely easy. Despite being so central, the neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. They spoke good English and provided great recommendations for nearby attractions and dining spots. My room was clean, compact, and thoughtfully designed with all the essentials. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless. One of the highlights was being within walking distance to Ueno Park, which was absolutely breathtaking with all the cherry blossoms in full bloom. It felt like a dream to wake up early, grab a coffee, and stroll through the park surrounded by pink petals. Overall, Ueno Touganeya Hotel offered excellent value, comfort, and location—especially during sakura season. I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo during spring!

Stayed for a couple days for the Sakura season. Check in was simple and they accepted the luggage I delivered from earlier in the week The location was nice because it's close to the station, park, and shopping street but without being noisy or busy. Just need to make a short walk across the bridge Rooms were actually decently sized for a solo. Personally I could open 2 bags on the floor and a 3rd on the bed. At checkout I had help sending my luggage to Narita. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would stay again

Very good location. Just next to ueno train station. But they don’t provide room cleaning service for the entire stay.

The hotel is about a 5-minute walk from JR Ueno Station and about 8 minutes from Keisei Ueno Station. It's important to note that you have to cross a overpass to get to the hotel, so it can be a bit challenging if you have large luggage (there is an elevator in the JR station to access the overpass level, but you might need to search for it a bit). The staff is friendly and can provide luggage storage service. The rooms are clean but a bit small, only allowing for one 28-inch suitcase to be opened at a time. However, hotel sizes in central Tokyo are generally similar. The hotel does not provide breakfast, but there is a convenience store and a supermarket right across the street, which is very convenient. The location is excellent, and the room's soundproofing is also decent. I would consider staying here again when I visit Tokyo in the future.

Yelp
This small place near Ueno station makes a great base for exploring Tokyo without breaking your budget. What we like: 1. LOCATION: within short walking distance to the metro station and also JR station for exploring outside Tokyo including the Shinkansen bullet train to whisk you to destinations like Kyoto - also note that it takes only 45 minutes for the Skyliner from Narita airport 2. VALUE & COMFORT : for a very reasonable price you get a clean place with comfortable bed and good amenities in the room, such as hot water kettle, green tea sachets, toothbrushes, slippers, kimono, hairdryer, big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body soap; there's also a small tv and a frig, plus free wifi with good speed Things to be aware of (none of these matters for us): 1. Room is pretty small, including the bathroom the size of those in a cruise ship and not much space to store your luggage, but it is nicely equipped with things like the bidet and a functioning desk 2. There's a tiny restaurant on the ground floor but beyond that there's not much else for your culinary choices So for as far as budget accommodation in Tokyo goes this is a pretty good experience

Yelp
I totally agree with everything Michael W. posted. This is considered a business hotel, so it's basically just a place to sleep. Pros: Location: Ueno station is just 4 stops from Tokyo station and the hotel itself is a short ten minute walk from the train station. Hotel/room: the hotel is contemporary and the room itself has all the basic amenities including Shiseido shampoo, conditioner, body wash and face wash, fridge, free wifi, computers downstairs, and water kettle-- all pluses for me. The staff is friendly and there is onsite laundry with soap available for 20 cents. In house restaurant: We ate at the restaurant on the first floor last night, which was pretty pricey. We are going to try our luck outside tonight. It seems like there are a lot of choices within walking distance. Cons: You may not like it if you're clausterphobic or like to hang out in your room. But if you're looking for a good deal and just a place to sleep/shower, it's great!!

Yelp
Great stay (twice)! The rooms are spotless. They offer weekly rates. The staff is friendly, very receptive to emails, and super accommodating. The rooms are tiny but that's just Tokyo. The hot water in the shower is great. The AC is strong, and they have a laundry room. Located just minutes from Ueno station, convenient for exploring Tokyo and Ueno park. Prices are fair for what you get.

Yelp
This hotel was situated in a perfect location in Ueno. It's conveniently located near the Ueno station, Ueno Park, Ameyoko Market, and a handful of convenience stores like 7-11 and Lawsons. A short detour through Ameyoko Market and a bit of walking would be Akihabara if you're into that, and several stations away are Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree. It was the perfect location for our first trip to Tokyo. The hotel itself had excellent service and staff. We checked in a little too early that morning, but the staff accommodated us and the nice man handed me the keys to the room that was situated at their top floor. There, the maids that were cleaning up even showed us the way to our hotel room and opened the door for us. How pleasant! The room was small, but I knew what I was getting from the pictures I saw. This is to be expected for paying sub $100/night in Tokyo, it is an expensive city compared to others. The room had basic TV, telephone, tea kettle, fridge, and double bed. Everything was nice and clean. I found it interesting that you have to switch between the sink and shower for the water to run. I never seen that before so that was new. And of course, you have the bidet which is always nice. I had some decent sleep and the quality was okay, though I have to say the walls are pretty thin. You can hear nearby guests footsteps and sometimes even conversation. I would recommend bringing a white noise machine to block out any sound in that case. Over the two days, the hotel served its purpose and I was very pleased with the stay. I would certainly come back again.
