Uga Chena Huts, Yala National Park, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"Wallowing like hippos in our very own plunge pool was an unexpected highlight of this remote lodge on the outskirts of Yala National Park. But it was only the tip of the iceberg as far as lavish amenities were concerned: the 18 thatched cabins also offer enormous beds, sitting areas, freestanding tubs, and the kind of mod cons you'd normally only expect in a smart city hotel. Add gourmet all-inclusive food, excellent service and a small spa, and comfort-seeking nature lovers – whether on honeymoon or with family – will find Chena Huts an absolute treat. Located a 10-minute jeep ride from the park entrance, overlooking a seasonal lagoon teeming with birdlife and a wild stretch of sand-duned coastline, this delightful small hotel hunches amidst wind-blown palu trees. The cabins and walkways are stilted so that nature can move freely, their thatched roofs don't appear above the canopy so blend in to the bush, and walls of glass allow for hide-style wildlife spotting. Common visitors include birds, hares, frogs, wild boar and lizards, as well as elephants wandering by the restaurant. As for Yala itself, it offers some of the best wild-leopard viewing in the world, and one game drive per day is included in the rates. Highs A spectacular 9-acre location between lagoon, sea and bush; sunsets here are very special Extremely knowledgeable rangers, who will help you spot leopards, elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles and all manner of bird life The cabins are huge, very private and lavishly equipped (Bluetooth sound systems, sofas, huge TVs) Top-quality all-inclusive food, without a boring buffet in sight The plunge pools add to the luxe feel; we also loved the main pool with its waterfall shower and dazzling green tiles Lows It's pricey, but rates include all meals and drinks, games drives and laundry The cabins' open-plan design suits couples more than friends The sea is not suitable for swimming No private safaris; jeeps can be shared with up to 5 other guests to reduce vehicle movements in the park Only two of the cabins have a sea view" - Emma Boyle

I can only echo was has been said by so many other reviewers - this place really is special. From the moment we arrived, the service was spot on - we arrived tired and hungry at around 3pm after leaving home 24 hours previously. The guys knew what to do - ushered us straight in for a delicious lunch rather than making us fill out forms in Reception! We were served throughout our stay by the wonderful Chinthaka, who is a credit to the hotel. The rooms are spectacular, luxurious and spacious. Everything we ate was delicious, cocktails were excellent - we especially liked the one with the name Chena in the title, I can’t remember what it was called. The setting for sundowners was just magical and so romantic. Our 2 children were made to feel very welcome and loved their stay (apart from the 5.30am wake ups for safaris!).||Safaris were great too - we saw a lot more animals in the afternoon than we did in the mornings. Our guide was interesting and knowledgeable. Sadly we didn’t see a leopard but they tried their very best to find one for us! We did see a sloth bear, as well as lots of elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, mongoose, peacocks, monkeys and birds of prey. ||We were truly sad to leave after only 2 nights - we would have loved to have stayed for longer but sadly at $1900 per night it was not possible, but we would love to return one day.

I’ve had the privilege of traveling to many countries, staying in numerous hotels and experiencing different cultures. Yet, whenever someone asks me about a truly memorable stay, the first place that comes to mind is Uga Yala. From start to finish, it was a first-class experience all around. The customer service was exceptional, the room service prompt and attentive, and the bar and dining options outstanding. The food selection catered to everyone—locals, tourists, and even vegetarians—with a wide variety of delicious choices. Every moment spent there was enjoyable and unforgettable. Without a doubt, I would highly recommend Uga Yala to anyone looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A heartfelt thank you to the team for making our stay so special.

We had the most unforgettable stay at Uga Chena Huts, Yala. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome — the perfect balance of warmth and professionalism. Every little detail was looked after with such care, and the team went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy throughout our stay. ||Our hut was absolutely stunning — spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, with lovely touches like a private plunge pool and high-quality amenities. The eco-friendly design really blends into the jungle surroundings, creating a peaceful retreat right inside Yala National Park.||The food was another highlight. Every meal was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented, with plenty of variety. The chef was so accommodating with requests, and we really loved the mix of local flavors and creative dishes. ||The safaris were an experience we’ll never forget. Our ranger, Vibhushan, was incredible — so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He spotted a leopard, elephants, and so many species of birds for us, and communicated so well with our driver to make sure we didn’t miss a single sighting. His passion and energy made the whole experience extra special. ||The hospitality throughout was wonderful. From thoughtful little touches in the room to personalized gestures during our stay, everything felt truly first-class. A big thank you to Dinith and Dilshan for helping my partner organise a beautiful birthday surprise for me — it meant so much. And of course, a huge shout-out to Kasun, Shemal, Dilani, and everyone else on the team for making our stay so special. ||In short, Uga Chena Huts is so much more than a place to stay — it’s an experience you’ll treasure.. We left with the fondest memories and a deep appreciation for the exceptional service, the unique setting, and the warmth of the people. Highly recommended for anyone looking for the perfect mix of adventure, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. And we travel a lot! It’s is beyond beautiful the location is exceptional right on the coast. The huts are absolutely wonderful and it’s a joy to have your own pool overlooking the beach! The fact it’s all inclusive removes extra thought processes which makes it even more relaxing. The food was superb!! Clearly made with love and exceptional talent! We had a cooking demonstration with the head chef. A delicious delight! We did two safaris as you get one for each night you stay. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. We saw a lot more in the afternoon as our lovely ranger predicated. All the staff are kind, attentive and smiley! The only sad bit is leaving as we have had the most wonderful time and incredible memories have been made.

We had a wonderful one night stay at Uga Chena Huts and from the moment we arrived I was wishing I had booked two nights. The staff are exceptional, remembering little details like the fact I prefer sparkling water with my meals. The rooms are outstanding, very spacious with every little extra included. We went on two safaris, afternoon and early morning. Both times with Hiludi? as our guide. We saw leopards on both occasions, the first one fleeting but the second was a female with her cub and we watched her for quite a while, even seeing her nursing the cub.

Wow! What a very, very special place Uga Chen Huts is. Incredible design, fantastic service, the most amazing food and in a stunning location. Everything was perfect. We went as a family and they could not have done more to make the 3 nights we had there so special. I would like to particularly mention the following members of the team who were amazing - Janith, Dilsham, Denith, Shamal, Charmara, Chinthake and Sanjeevea. It really is a wonderful place!!

The most incredible experience ever. The location, staff, food, safari all of the highest possible quality. Yes, it might be feel quite expensive but is all inclusive and is so worth every penny. The "hut" with private pool has to be seen and experienced to be believed. The "sundowner" on the beach is such a wonderful way to relax after safari and before dinner. Then dinner, wow, food choice and quality is second to none, and that goes for breakfast and lunch too all just fabulous and faultless. Guides and all staff, from room maids to reception to bar to waiting are all just so polite and engaging, plus every attention to detail is just amazing. Safari's are awesome, guides very knowledgeable and passionate. Can't rate everything about Chena Huts highly enough. A holiday that will stay with you for life.
