Spacious room with well thought design. Wooden flooring, showering area is huge and toilet bowl has the cleaning facility. Aesop hair, body and hand wash are great! Though the hostel is further away from the train station but its near the food and shopping areas. Once u get the hang of how the bus works and where the bus stops are, this is definitely a good place to stay! Great view facing the tainan art museum.

I stayed in a superior room. The room is big and spacious. It is clean. It has a separate area for toilet and shower which is a good design for 2 occupants staying in the same room. The location is convenient, opposite the hotel is local market. There are alot of eateries nearby, within walking distance. We could just use Google map to navigate. I am impressed with the toiletries provided. I am pampered by Aesop products and felt refreshed after a shower. The breakfast provided is breakfast set, and it is delicious. We could choose from 6 options from the menu. The staff are helpful. I like the idea of loaning the book as part of the check-in, which spoke about Tainan people. Tainan has a rich history, and U.IJ is proud to share about it. I could sense the strong feelings towards the Tainan. I want to go back to the hotel again if i have the opportunity to visit Tainan again.

We stayed in the hotel rooms here and absolutely loved it! This place is super stylish with comfortable rooms and gorgeous products. The breakout space, which also services the hostel, is fantastic - a relaxed ambience with sparkling water on tap, kitchen facilities and well curated music. Would certainly recommend.

The perfect hostel for the executive backpacker or for extended stay. The hotel itself would probably be 4-star rated by the international standard, except that UIJ doesn't have the extra amenities such as a swimming pool or room service. Aside from that, the facility itself is top notch. An entire floor is devoted as a common area, with a full kitchen and expansive terrace. There are plenty of tables for eating or working on your computer, a couple of coffee tables and a relaxing tatami area, where one can nap. Out on the terrace, are multiple secluded areas where small parties can gather, or for someone to enjoy a romantic evening. The kitchen facility is fully equipped, except that it doesn't have a smoke vent. There are multiple water dispensers and even a sparkling water machine. Free coffee beans are available, along with an electric grinder, where one can brew the perfect cup. There is also a bar with snack service, by the spiral staircase if one wants a beer. The dorm rooms are also spacious and well equipped. The mattress is comfortable and the overall design of the sleeping quarters is well designed. The ventilation was excellent. All in all, this is a five-star facility and a huge upgrade from the typical backpacker, budget hostel. As such I have encountered other vacationers or digital nomads here, however none of the usual backpackers I encounter out on the trail. Let's call it the business grade hostel for the executive backpacker.

The hostel is super aesthetic and clean. The bed and private space is comfortable too! The curtain is thick enough and is able to cover most of the lights. The washroom and common areas are clean and dry although it is shared among travellers. Staffs are friendly as well (They helped me to order Uber when I was not able to. Really grateful!) Would definitely stay here again!

This is a very nice hotel. Having a coffee shop on the ground floor is great, as is the common area on the third floor (though the music choices there are... not relaxing). The location is fantastic. The rooms are very well-equipped and the staff is friendly. Unfortunately, the walls are thin. We could hear every door open and close on that hall. We could hear the shower of all the rooms in our proximity. We heard the phone calls and of the people in the next room, as well as them having sex. The worst night, we briefly moved rooms at 2am because of noise. Again, the staff was awesome, so they quickly fixed the problem, but it's a problem that shouldn't exist at this price. If you value your sleep and don't want to wear earplugs, I can't recommend this hotel. Smaller note - if you go on their website, the deluxe room says that it includes breakfast. We booked a deluxe room then were surprised to learn when we arrived that we didn't get breakfast. There's a second option when booking you have to check for it which we didn't notice.

A very well designed/decorated hotel lacking the simple things. Love the design, the addition of neuvo items to add to the ambience however the rooms are not for families. If you have kids and value any privacy at all in the bathroom then this isn’t the hotel for you…or if you want to sit down on an actual chair in your hotel room as there aren’t any other than a half full bean bag chair. The breakfast offered although tasty is a lunch dinner menu for breakfast so except to eat a burger at 8am not toast or anything to do with breakfast at all. The good though is really good. It is a beautiful hotel and if I was 20 years younger it would have been cool to stay here. With 2 kids in town and luggage for a family it was however not fun as there just isn’t any room to open luggage in the room and actually walk around. The staff. They are by far some of the best hotel staff that I have seen. Attention to detail, helpful and super friendly and if their boss reads this they all deserve a raise.

This is currently my favorite hostel/hotel in the world and I have stayed at many high end as well as middle of the road places that pale in comparison. Once I sat in the lounge area and enjoyed my self made pour over coffee, I immediately extended my stay. I ended up staying several nights and then came back to stay several more nights because I loved it so much. The lounge blew me away, especially the kitchen as it had everything I could possible need to cook a gourmet meal. A traditional Taiwanese market is located right next door so I was able to acquire as many raw ingredients as my heart desired. After traveling for days, I was delighted to be able to make my own food as I can only eat out for so long. I met wonderful people who became new friends of mine in the common area and we shared the food that we cooked with each other. We enjoyed several meals together. The beautiful garden patio is super spacious and I spent extensive amounts of time there as well. I took the walking tour with Yo-yo and she was absolutely excellent. I am a serious foodie and she hooked me up with all sorts of culinary delights that only locals know about. The facilities are cleverly designed and the amenities are all top notch. There were also areas that I could enjoy all to myself. The location of this hotel is well placed and I walked to various historical sites. I also took several taxis which the front desk called for me to get to various destinations as well. The best part were the people that I met here and the staff are truly exceptional. It was a joy to stay here and I definitely will return in the future.

Yelp
U.I.J Hotel & Hostel was an excellent Tainan stay. Central location with parking included in a quiet area with artsy, personalized details. Close to many shopping and dining options in Tainan. Check-in included a book chosen from the back after hotel staff heard it was our first time in the area. Really nice personal touches! COMMON AREAS Lobby area featured a pop-up for Magazine B which was a pleasure to read through (titles included Leica, or Instagram, or Porsche), and a nice area to relax; there is a library near one corner which also included a vinyl library for the in-room record player. Common area near the hostel rooms included board games, a kitchen, a bar, and a sitting area with plush cushions. There was a selection of magazines (including pop-up feature Magazine B in Aug 2023) for perusal. HOTEL ROOM: Really nice hotel room, including choice of vinyl records to play (two included in the room with option to switch out from the library of vinyl records downstairs at any time) and in-house sparkling water available for refill; bubbles in the sparkling water are very fine and felt high-end. The room we selected included a tub, which was large and generous. Leather slippers were also provided which added to the luxe touch. Lovely stay and would recommend it for sure!

Yelp
U.I.J Hotel & Hostel - 友愛街旅館 is one of the most popular and trendiest hotels recently in Tainan. The owner tried to run the business and focus on environmental sustainability at the same time. You can tell by a lot of details and what they care about during your stay. There were only 6 options on their breakfast menu but each set was delicate and delicious with beautiful arrangement. Our favorites were #1 Milkfish rice soup which was a signature dish originated from Tainan and #2 Salmon Onigiri which is Japanese style rice ball with salmon.
