U.I.J Hotel & Hostel - 友愛街旅館

I recently stayed at this hotel and found it to be more of a stylish hostel than a traditional hotel. While it has some unique design elements, such as exposed brick walls, it may not meet the expectations of those looking for a full-service hotel experience. The rooms are on the smaller side, and while the service is decent, it isn’t at the level of a five-star hotel. There are some thoughtful touches, like a well-equipped common area and good location near eateries, but certain aspects—such as the lack of in-room heating—may be a drawback, especially in colder weather. Overall, it’s a reasonable choice for those who enjoy boutique-style accommodations, but for the same price, I would personally opt for a five-star hotel with more amenities and a proper buffet breakfast.

Very good hotel room, we stayed for three nights and had zero complaints. The staff was very helpful and there were always at least three people working in the front. There was a coffee shop in the lobby, too. The 3rd floor space is a nice bonus, with a full kitchen for free use. I felt that the location was good too, central to the city but nothing right outside that kept me awake. I would definitely stay here again given the chance!

BEWARE. There is no heating in the hotel. My daughter girl was crying. It was a cold night and staff were completely unresponsive when I asked about making it warmer in our room. It took them over two hours to simply inform us there was no heating. They offered no solution. When we asked them if we could move to another hotel they were less than helpful. The biggest issue you should be aware of is the hotel staff have no class ... this is no doubt due to their bosses. Avoid this hotel/hostel, for sure. And the food was awful. For breakfast they offer a hamburger ... it's neither authentic Taiwanese or Western. Some Taiwanese might find the authentic record player cute ... but, it'd be vastly better if it were a useful Bluetooth speaker to play music from my phone!

I really loved this hotel. I stayed in a private room. The design is fun and quirky but they haven't forgot the basics either. The shower is hot and powerful, there's a big bath, a snazzy Japanese toilet, good WiFi and a very comfortable bed. Impeccably clean. My room was also on the 9th floor and had a great view of the sunset over the city. Only downside is that there was no tea or coffee in the room although there is a social area on the third floor that you can get some from. Would stay here again in a heartbeat but I'll take my own teabags!

* Location: gr8, and is quite central to many touristy places, except Qi-mei museum * Hôtel/room: the fact that Ruven very kindly upgraded our rooms made a difference; but overall, it's spacious, clean, and they pay attention to details in terms of design vs. functionality. The only thing I would suggest is that: guests who stay at the the regular hotel rooms pay a higher price(vs. that paid by guests who stay at the hostel section), but the fact that ALL can use the common facilities on the 3rd floor doesn't make us feel " a little bit" especial... * Staff/service: some are nicer and are more " with the program", others are not rude, but it doesn't make you feel that they'll welcome you back next time you're in town

Nice modern hotel / hostel in the city with nice big kitchen and relaxing area (unfortunately on the 3rd floor, without a room key or the help from reception not able to get there). Room was spacious. Toothbrush, laundry etc. need to pay for it. Got a voucher of 50 ********* dollar to spend at the hotel. Very strict with check out time (11am). Got a call at 11:02 that I need to check out. Free water in the room available. Overall happy with the hotel, room and service.

This is a perfect hostel: from entering to checking out I had an outstanding experience. The hostel bunks were excellent with extra shelves and very good curtains - and the best bedding I ever had in a hostel. People in my dorm kept very quiet. The common kitchen is well equipped with different kinds of coffe and was lively in a good way. I used the laundry (washer and dryer), and that was smooth. The entire place smelled fantastic. The location is super central and next to a great market. The staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The style is so cool! Impeccably clean. I would definitively come back if I return to Tainan

A very stylish hotel/hostel. A smart combination of old and new design. Every detail is thought of. Even the staff unique and authentic uniforms. It was Wonderfull walking around the huge common areas. Rooms are lovely and spacious, Impeccably clean, with hot water and strong current in the shower The first floor is huge and stylish, and has a coffeeshop for outsiders too. The whole 3rd floor is a beautiful common area for guests only - with well equipped and sparkly clean kitchen, lots os sitting areas and huge balcony with small trees and sitting areas. The hotel is very well located, near some old authentic neighborhood.

U.I.J Hotel & Hostel was an excellent Tainan stay. Central location with parking included in a quiet area with artsy, personalized details. Close to many shopping and dining options in Tainan. Check-in included a book chosen from the back after hotel staff heard it was our first time in the area. Really nice personal touches! COMMON AREAS Lobby area featured a pop-up for Magazine B which was a pleasure to read through (titles included Leica, or Instagram, or Porsche), and a nice area to relax; there is a library near one corner which also included a vinyl library for the in-room record player. Common area near the hostel rooms included board games, a kitchen, a bar, and a sitting area with plush cushions. There was a selection of magazines (including pop-up feature Magazine B in Aug 2023) for perusal. HOTEL ROOM: Really nice hotel room, including choice of vinyl records to play (two included in the room with option to switch out from the library of vinyl records downstairs at any time) and in-house sparkling water available for refill; bubbles in the sparkling water are very fine and felt high-end. The room we selected included a tub, which was large and generous. Leather slippers were also provided which added to the luxe touch. Lovely stay and would recommend it for sure!

U.I.J Hotel & Hostel - 友愛街旅館 is one of the most popular and trendiest hotels recently in Tainan. The owner tried to run the business and focus on environmental sustainability at the same time. You can tell by a lot of details and what they care about during your stay. There were only 6 options on their breakfast menu but each set was delicate and delicious with beautiful arrangement. Our favorites were #1 Milkfish rice soup which was a signature dish originated from Tainan and #2 Salmon Onigiri which is Japanese style rice ball with salmon.
