Ulcumano is the vision-come-true of owners Eduardo and Ingrid that started almost 20 years ago. Inspired by his forestry engineering background and professional experience working in the Yanachaga National Park outside of Oxapampa, Eduardo has put his passion for forestry conservation to work in the large land tract that Ulcumano protects. A stay at Ulcumano is an easy way to contribute towards this greater good.||My 10-year old son and I stayed 3 days and 2 nights at Ulcumano. I was looking for reconnection with nature and disconnection from screens with minimal planning on my part. Once you get to Ulcumano, Eduardo and Ingrid take care of everything. The cabins are cozy, with comfortable mattresses and pillows, down comforters (and plenty of extra blankets) and a nice balcony with seats to enjoy the nature view. 3 meals a day are included (home-cooked by Ingrid) and there is always tea and fruit on hand for snacks in the dining lodge. There is Wifi and electrical outlets in the dining lodge, which also has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to relax, a collection of board games and books, and a wood stove that Eduardo lights for guests on chilly evenings. You have daytime activity options, primarily guided hikes (there are a few trails on property) and exploring the canopy sky bridges (which we did 3 times, at different times during the days we were there). There is also a rock climbing wall on one of the canopy towers, which we didn't try. Eduardo also leads nighttime explorations, when insects and some other animals are more likely to be found.||Although I highly recommend staying overnight for true disconnection, visitors also have the option of doing a day visit to Ulcumano to explore the trails and canopy sky bridge, with lunch included. Ulcumano is a particularly great place for bird watchers, as there are many interesting species present in its conservation area.
