21 Places to Get Back Into the Beatles

"Just blocks from Union Station in Washington, D.C., an unassuming coliseum is the site of The Beatles’ first concert in the United States. Though you wouldn’t know it to look at it. From the outside, the building seems like nothing more than another construction site in a rapidly developing part of town. But this former stadium was the venue for the Fab Four’s first Stateside concert, which kicked off the tour that would bring Beatlemania to America. At the time of the historic concert on February 11, 1964—two days after the band’s famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show—the Washington Coliseum, as the stadium was named at the time, held just over 8,000 fans. The stage was set in the center of the stadium, with fans watching on all four sides. The Beatles regularly readjusted their position on stage throughout the show to alternate which side they were facing. First opened in 1941 as the Uline Ice Arena, the building was constructed by the owner of the Washington Lions hockey team to serve as their stadium. The unassuming arena is also significant for having hosted President Eisenhower’s inaugural ball in 1953. In 1959, it was purchased for $1 million by a wealthy jeweler and renamed the Washington Coliseum. By the early 70s, the building had fallen into disuse, hitting rock bottom when it served as one of Waste Management’s trash transfer stations in the 90s and early 2000s. The company tried to have the arena demolished in 2003, but it was designated as a historic space. Most recently, after a major gutting, the arena reopened in October 2016 as the District’s first REI store. Inside, you can see replica posters from artists that played there, as well as seats from the stands and wood panels from the basketball court. Outside on M Street, across from the store’s main entrance, you’ll find an interpretive sign that commemorates the Beatles’ performance and the arena’s former lives." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

This is horrible place to park after hours. The building is closed but it’s closed off from the lobby. You can’t access the garage to retrieve my car unless I walk three blocks around to the entrance for cars. Meanwhile a comfortable guard is sitting at the deal not willing to help. The garage should not be accessible if the lobby is closed. What a sham!! The call center unhelpful and unmotivated to call the person enjoying their screen time sting at the desk. I walked around as specified by the person at the call center and the main door is closed!!! No where as you’re entering does it post the hours (see pic) however when you’re looking over to the left, to grab your packing ticket, to the right, there is a little section devoted to the hours (see pic). How was I going to see it, if I’m looking on the left-hand side for the ticket? Why not post the hours on the ticket machine? The staff accommodated me in the end, but I’m certain they were done listening how this was not at all customer service friendly.

This place is nice but parking can be difficult & down right tricky with the street signs. Make sure you read them thoroughly & note the direction of the arrows. 1 day I was parked in the Rivian's space & the lady & the gentleman behind her both got tickets. I didn't understand why. Then, I came another day & parked in the space the lady did. Then I fully read the sign. Any way DC can get $$ from you, they will. And the other side of the street was for residents only. Except between the hours of 12:01am to 6:59am, then you can park there. But my guess is that residents are usually home at that time so good luck finding parking. Forgot to mention that there is a parking garage. The entrance is at the end of an alley around the backside of the building. Price per hour? $15 for 1st hr, $13 after that. It gets full fast. The other parking garage & lot is 3 blocks down across the railroad tracks. Lot $13 all day. Garage $10/hr.

It's a great spot next to NOMA metro. It's has an an REI, and plenty of office space. It's a very modern industrial office commercial space.

This is now REI's showcase store. Fantastic place for your needs for camping, hiking, snow sports, kayaking, biking and more. Excellent products, decent prices, great people. Free parking but also right next to NOMA Metro stop (Red Line).

I've only been in REI and the businesses on that side of Uline, but the history is clearly celebrated and the businesses are top notch with amazing customer service, the oat milk draft lattes at la colombe are to die for and any drink at red bear is divine

My boyfriend is a security guard here and one thing I can say is this place is very secured! From the outside looking in, they keep it well cleaned and highly patrolled with awesome officers.

Yelp
This is an ongoing project near Union Station. The building is awesome. There are retail stores below and shared office space for rent on the upper levels. You may need to borrow someone's WiFi password. The building seems to block calls and internet (at least on Sprint lines).
