Drinks were a good price. Place has a cool history. It's kind of small, back portion not in use. I imagine it can get busy on usual evenings.

Place was busy for a Thursday night!! We ordered some Ulrich wings, which weren't my thing (to each their own when it comes to flavour), but the celery was limp and almost colourless - it really wasn't even servable, let alone edible. Waitress was pleasant. Would definitely not buy food here again. Crowd atmosphere was fun and lively though. Nice selection of beers.

Food was very good and so was the service! Was speaking with the owner, Will, for a bit and he recommended that we try his wings. Best. Wings. Got to try the chili lime and medium! Great sauce and amazing crunch on the wing!

The atmosphere was great. I felt like it was a century ago. We had fishfrys. They were large with ample sides but the fish was a little greasy & the fries oversalted. However it was my 1st visit there & I would like to go again sometime to try there German food...but I didn't see any liver dumpling soup...maybe it'll be a soup of the day

Best French onion soup, bartender was friendly and “Buffalo-real,” and my dogs liked chilling on the nice little sidewalk seating area. Love that I can walk here from my house just east of Michigan Ave!

Ulrich's has a really cool, genuinely vintage atmosphere. Small, but nice craft beer selection, and the bartender and waitress were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The bar itself is a gem, a reminder of the old, blue collar Buffalo. A quaint little corner antique, situated in the midst of the resurgence. Hopefully it'll stay intact, as a beautifully aged reminder of Buffalo's history.

I can't wait for this place to open back up. The all wood bar is fantastic, complete with Art Deco stained glass. Genuinely, a trip back in time. The bartenders, Thui and Rachelle rock. They go out of their way to be friendly and remembered our names and our beef preferences. Very good selection of on draft beers. The food is good. It's not fantastic. Certain items on the menu are significantly better than others. Their potato pancakes are a true winner. Honestly, all of the German dishes (sausages, etc) are worth ordering. We come here for the fantastic ambience, good service. It's right next to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and lots of working folks stop by for a beer after work. An old timey neighborhood bar steeped in history. Stop bye!

They claim to open at 3pm. Waited until 3:45pm they never showed up. The hell with this place !!!!!!

Love this place! You can feel the history when you walk in. It is bar food not high end, but the sandwiches are fantastic!!!!

This was a staple in downtown Buffalo when I used to come here years ago. Tonight I cane with a friend. I ordered the French onion burger. It was quite interesting and delicious. It was served on a garlic roll. It was really good but came with fries that were incredibly greasy. They hurt my stomach a lot later on. I had a Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, which was great. They really weren't that busy. The waitress was awesome, polite, and great.

Came in on a Saturday night around 5 for dinner and it wasn't too busy, few people at the bar, few people dining in, but plenty of space at the bar and plenty of open tables. Only one waitress working plus one bartender, so I assume that this is a typical Saturday evening for them. Menu isn't extensive, there's a few apps, salads, sandwiches, and entrees, including German. Our table got 2 beef on wecks, a turkey sandwich, and the pulled pork Mac n cheese. I had the Mac and it was absolutely delicious!! Big serving, so I had some to take home with me. Very saucy too! Both people who had the beef on weck enjoyed them very much so, contrary to what other reviews had said about the beef on weck. They said it was juicy, they provide extra juice, and even the bottom bun was absorbing the juice from the roast beef. We also got beer, a few crafts on tap including Rohrback, Community Beer Works, and more. At least 10 taps. Service was fine when we were there, waitress was attentive and food came out fairly quick too. Bartender was friendly as well. Would come back here.

Came here with 2 colleagues on our lunch break. The outdoor seating was pleasant. They had a limited menu for their reopening and I got the turkey club sandwich. It was good. The sandwich had kinda low quality yellow American cheese which threw me off a bit, I didn't think it was the best choice to compliment the sandwich. Probably any other kind of cheese would have been better. The fries were fresh and crispy and the service was prompt and staff friendly! Overall had a good experience here.

I figured I should give Ulrich's Tavern a try given that it's a staple in the community. I'll start out by saying that I enjoyed the ambiance of the establishment - when you walk in there's an old-fashioned bar, the lights are dim (just the right amount) and there's a nice flat-screen TV to watch any sporting event while you're sipping on a beer. We were seated quickly (the dining room was mostly empty, actually) and we felt quite welcomed. Our waitress came to our table and we ordered drinks within a few minutes - they have a decent selection of liquors but they did tell us that some of their beers were not available. I tried an old-fashioned with southern comfort (I probably should have gone with Jim Beam...). The menu has a decent selection of appetizers, sandwiches, and larger entrees, most of which are german-themed. I gave the Knockwurst a try, and I actually really liked it! It was cooked just right and had a decent amount of sauerkraut. The meal came with a side of kettle chips, which I thought were slightly overcooked. My friend had a salad, another had perogies (which he thought came out well) while another one of us had a steak, which he did not think tasted that great though the size of the entree was decent. The biggest issue was the pricing. My drink cost me over $8 - last time I checked, this isn't NYC, Toronto or Chicago, therefore I expected to maybe pay $6 or $7 at the most for it. My friend's salad cost $20, which she was quite upset about, however the price of the salad was not actually listed on the menu. It looks like we were also charged for a side of ranch dressing! Bottom line, this is a nice place to grab a drink and have a bite to eat. However, I think they need to improve the quality of the food and consider decreasing the prices of most of the items on the menu. There is a reason why the restaurant isn't even half full on a Saturday night...

This is the oldest active tavern in Buffalo NY. The City of Buffalo is populated with the descendants of German's, Irish, Poles And Italians. Ulrich's Beef is a great edition of this Buffalo Standard. I have never seen a Kimmelweck Roll with so much salt and caraway seeds. They have a very nice selection of sandwiches. The bar is fully stocked and the friendly waitress is waiting. That glorious day when Prohibition ended its funeral took place at Ulrich's. The mourners were less than sincere but the coffin was real. I wish it's walls could talk.

Ulrich's Tavern - What a funny spot. There's something very charming about the combination of the historic Buffalo building, and friendly informality of service. The space itself - while a little dingy it is full of mementoes, historical information, and antiques. More than enough to keep the eyes occupied, and conversation starters for days! If you are looking for a pristine modernized bar, this may not be the place for you. But if you enjoy something with old time character and a relaxed atmosphere then this might just be your spot! The food - we enjoyed the schnitzel and the bacon wrapped meatloaf special. The food was good! It is pub fare, so definitely plan for a heavy meal. It may not be something that's going to knock your taste buds socks off, but it's good old fashioned comfort food. My meatloaf was scrumptious, I ate every last bite. And best of all, our kind server made sure to pour nice full glasses of wine! All in all, I'd have to say I kind of loved my evening there!

Please Please respect the beer and clean the lines to the tap. When you can smell bacteria and mold from inside the lines you know they disregard quality. I had two different beers and they were both terrible. I know Guinness beer incredibly well and this was the absolute worst - no doubt due to the keg/tap lines not being properly cleaned. Respect the beer please. Respect your customer. Keep the lines clean every day. Also ordered a sandwich with NO MAYO -- sandwich came with mayo. Nobody seems to give a $&@% here.

Perfect spot to celebrate Pre Saint Patrick's Day Events. Great staff, friendly bartenders, delicious specials and an overall fun atmosphere. Shoot some darts and share some fresh popped popcorn during your visit.

Several weeks back we were in Buffalo and decided to try out some of the "best fish fry" offerings as described in the various local reviews and web sites. We tried Ulrich's at that time but were unable to dine in because of a technical issue that had closed the kitchen early. The bartender (and I assume owner and manager), however, was most gracious. We were given some free appetizers while we waited and we enjoyed the ambiance. We ended up trying one of the so called best fish fries in Buffalo on the south side and were deeply disappointed. So on this past Friday we had the opportunity to once again be in Buffalo and we stopped in for a late lunch and ordered the fish fry. I haven't tasted them all, mind you, but in my mind, this was one of the best, if not the best in Buffalo. First, as mentioned by other reviewers, the ambiance is great. This is the oldest bar in Buffalo (not the oldest restaurant mind you but the oldest bar) and it shows and that's wonderful. Nothing like history. Second, the fish fry was huge, meaty, fresh, and wonderfully beer battered. But third, what made this place outstanding was the french fries and the cole slaw. Now I can't imagine reviewing something like french fries but inevitably with every fish fry I've had they come somewhat soggy and limp. And afterthought. Here, they were fresh, crisp and wonderfully hot. They didn't need anything on them to be a tasty dish by themselves. But it was the cole slaw that was outstanding. My God, I've eaten, or tried to eat so many mediocre or downright terrible variations on cole slaw with a fish fry that I cringe from the thought. But here, it was as if I had dessert served to me with my fish. Fresh with blueberries and mango cubes, this was the sweetest and most refreshing cole slaw I've ever eaten. I'd come back to Buffalo just for a bowl of the cole slaw. It's that good. And the bartender manager? We'll he was one of the most friendly individuals we've encountered in a long time. Obviously someone who truly cares about his establishment. Places that have survived for more than a century and continue to turn out good food and provide a great atmosphere deserve to be supported. It's worth the trip!

We visited Ulrich's twice in one day. First time at 2pm after getting off the plane. We were in town to attend our daughter's graduation. We had beef on weck & the fish fry with some local beers to wash it down. Tony ( the bartender) was attentive and and fun to talk to. That was a 5 star visit. The second time was about 8:30. The downtown was very busy but we had hungry family members ( ages 3 to 68). Six of us returned to Ulrich's. The restaurant was not busy. One waitress and one other table which was finishing up. We ordered quickly as food and sleep were a priority. Service was very very slow. Water came quickly but the beer took about 10 - 15 to arrive. Food took about 45 minutes to a hour. Burgers, piergies, French onion soup & kids chicken tenders. Food was decent not great. We didn't leave there till 10. About 45 minutes into the experience a table of ten that included 6 little kids and four adults. They gave up much quicker then us. They drank sodas and feed the kids popcorn after about 20 minutes sitting there with no food. The second visit was a two star. The bar area is really cool, my suggestion is go for drinks only.

The food was great, the people were friendly and the beer was cold. This trip brought back memories of my youth. The new owner did a great job restoring this property and keeping it original at the same time. If you live in Buffalo or are visiting like us, you need to come enjoy Ulrich's.

I'm actually surprised by the low reviews this place has. I've come here frequently through the years and have always had a great time. They really have perfected the tavern vibe. Ulrich's is nestled conveniently in the BNMC, making it perfect for work happy hour, or when you have had such a stressful day at work that you and your coworkers just slowly end up there to blow off some steam. I have always had extremely good service here, especially from the manager (who's name is escaping me) and Rachelle (I think that's how you spell it, it's pronounced Rachel). They both are fantastic, always coming to check on you, they get to know you personally and recommend new things for you to try. Recently Rachelle had me try a, "decorated" holiday ale and it was FANTASTIC, it's a beer with a shot of vodka and cinnamon... shocking how good it was. The food is solid! It's everything you want in a tavern style place. I have had their perogies, pizza logs, pretzels, pot stickers, and wings. These appetizers are all great, perfectly prepared and definitely satisfy your craving for fried foods. I definitely will order these all again, but my favorite is definitely their pizza logs, so delicious. Ulrich's is also priced very well. Drinks are on the lower average price side and the food is on the average price side. I definitely recommend this place.

Originally named "illrich" because it was an instructional workshop for those who wish to sue major corporations by purposefully getting ill off their mis-labeled products, and then cashing in big time. My favourite class was "how to get sick and not die and then get rich." Unfortunately, some rich men in Albany decided this was unethical (probably because they didn't think of it themselves) and shut it down. It changed its name to Ulrich's and started serving German food. And the rest is, as they say, histo... I don't feel too well. I think it's this damn Kraft Mac N Cheese I've been eating 10 times a day for 2 months. Anyway on with the review. My first visit here was for overpriced German food that didn't taste German at all. The service was excellent but the prices weren't. We got a sausage platter that was similar in appearance to what we had in Germany, but the taste didn't compare. Honestly, I probably preferred the Rose Garden German food to Ulrich's. I appreciated the effort though, even though it was only a 3/5 experience. Recently, I came back with a friend, and they have completely remodeled it. It looks shiny and welcoming. The staff is very friendly. The space is much nicer and while I miss the old "basement" feel of the German Tavern, I do think the new design is much better for a night out, and for drinking, and will probably serve the establishment very well. So for this notable improvement, I will raise their star rating to a 4, and I will give the German food a second try at some point soon.

Had lunch here today. It was my first time eating here. First I'll say, I love good, authentic German food. Second, I love unique places off the beaten path. Third, the more history the better. Ulrich's delivered on all fronts. We walked in and sat at the bar. We were greeted immediately by the bartender, who was fantastic. Friendly, chatty, and knowledgeable. We both ordered Hoegaardens while we looked at the menu. As we chatted more with the bartender, he introduced himself as Randy, shook our hands, and answered questions about the menu. We ordered potato pancakes as an appetizer. My brother ordered an open faced meatloaf sandwich. I couldn't order something that wasn't traditional German fare, so I got the veal schnitzel with sauerkraut and German potato salad. As we waited for the food, we chatted with Randy about the history of the place, how we ended up there, Taste of Buffalo, and all kinds of other topics. When the food came... holy cow!! HUGE portions. And the food was fantastic!! The potato pancakes were amazing! A little sweet, a hint of caraway, and sour cream or applesauce as toppers. Photo posted below. When the entrees came out I was so excited I forget to get a picture. My brother really enjoyed the meatloaf. And the veal schnitzel was excellent. I was both surprised I finished it and a little sad that it was gone. If I had any complaint at all, it's that there wasn't nearly as much German food on the menu as I expected. But, being so close to all the hospitals, I'd imagine they have to cater to a pretty diverse crowd. I'll end with this. As good as the food was (and it was REALLY good), the star of the day was Randy. Excellent service, very welcoming, and a gem of a bartender. If I still lived in the area and worked in the restaurant business I'd be trying to steal him.

What a great place for lunch! If you happen to be visiting someone at Buffalo General or Roswell Park skip going to The hospital cafeteria or Tim Horton's and take a 2 block walk down Ellicott St to Virginia St where Ulrich's Taveran is located on the corner. Our meals were amazing! The fried bologna on a pretzel roll and warm pastrami sandwiches were exceptional, as was the perogi appetizer! I plan on having the award winning chilli next time and there WILL be a next time!

Six of us stopped for beers and food, mainly appetizers, and quickly determined, we're on our own. Packed a table in the front window and couldn't get the waitress' attention, so we basically waited our own table via the bar. The nice lady with the waitress pad was way too pre-occupied with SnapChat or other screen-based distraction to care. When we asked for menus over the bar, our presence was finally noticed, but things never really got better. I could regale you with the night's waitressing disaster and mediocre food for a Thursday, but let's not live through that again. Besides from the Bavarian pretzels, Ulrich's was a disappointment. Wife was separately and has the same sentiment.

Maybe I didn't come in the right time?... I ordered a chicken pot pie to go. It was $15.96.... what a mistake. Gave me a sandwich container with just the soup in it. By the time I got to work, the soup was in the bag. And no spoon.

I have never been here before under the previous owners but had always heard what a historic place this was in Buffalo. So I was stoaked as a history lover and a sausage lover to check this place out with my dude. I started with the pretzel appetizer, which came with one massive plain pretzel and one cheese filled pretzel with cheese crusted on top. It also to my pleasure came with three different mustard dipping sauces. The plain pretzel was a little dull tasting for me but I liked the cheese pretzel, even though the inside of it tasted kind of like nacho cheese. I could have just had gone home after the appetizer I was so full. The three dipping sauces were what really made the pretzel appetizer though. For dinner I got a entree that came with three types of sausage, German potatoes and kraut for $14. Two out of three of the sausages were okay. They tasted like your average sausages. The third sausage was smaller but much tastier and the waitress told me after it was the one they make in-house. It had a much better texture and taste than the other two, and texture is what I look for in links. I wish it had just came with three of the little house made sausages instead. The german potatoes were good and the kraut was kraut, can't really go wrong. The place had a great atmosphere. It was sort of like sitting in a nicer version of a family restaurant. I enjoyed the historic photos on the wall and the feeling of this super old establishment. There are mystery buttons all over the walls that I'm sure were used for something back in the day. Our server was very nice, helpful and communicated a lot with us. However since the food was only "alright" I probably won't be returning. Sad panda but there are other sausages out there.

Just an okay experience at Ulrich's. Best part of the trip was definitely the atmosphere. It's one of the oldest taverns in Buffalo and has a lot of cool memorabilia and old photos around the place. Also looks like the place hasn't been updated too much. The back restaurant place is a little bit dark, but it adds to the charm. Loved the music they had going-- oldies. Menus were old and stained and had things written in pens on them. They need to replace those pronto. We weren't there for drinks, but they seemed to have enough different beers and wines,though nothing like other flashy joints in Buffalo. My friend and I both ordered a salad-- Caesar for him, something with cranberries and crumbly blue for me. My friend ordered chicken on his, which didn't happen. He didn't complain, because he's on the shy side, but that was a disappointment. They were HUGE salads, which is good because they were over $8 each without chicken. Seemed a little bit steep though. Not a horrible time, but not amazing either.

I had been to Ulrich's previously in Fall 2014. It was delicious. Had potato pancakes as an appetizers and beef on weck, which was some of the best I've had. Flash forward to last night. My friends and I stopped there after the roller derby bout. I was super excited for my friends to try this gem, well, what I thought was a gem. Everyone has an off day, but this is almost non forgiving. We got in at around 8:15 p.m. There were a few tables available, so it wasn't that busy. We sat down within 5 minutes of arriving. The waitress came over and we ordered beers and food. There were two beef on wecks, a hamburger, and a Cuban sandwich, all asking for fries to be substituted instead of the kettle chips. The fries are freshly made, so there was no question in substituting the chips for the fries. The waitress never told us that there would be an up charge for the substitution. We ate two baskets of popcorn. The popcorn was the best thing all night. After about an hour, the waitress finally decided to check on our food multiple times. At that point, the restaurant was pretty cleared out, except for 2 other tables of 2 or 3 people each. The waitress finally brought our food over at about 9:30 p.m. The beef was dry and disgusting, but I was too hungry to complain, and didn't want someone spitting in my food. The waitress brought over the check and I saw the up charge for the fries. After waiting for more than an hour to get the food, you would think that the waitress at least wouldn't put the up charge on our bills. Nope, it was on there. Pretty disappointing second experience. I do not know if I'll be back.

This is NOT a German restaurant....at least not by any standard I've ever been to. No traditional fare on the menu. No Deutschland brews. It's simply a tired old corner bar. Service...non existent. If they made it a Bar and Grill dive... At- 4 stars.

Good for drinks after work since it's right in the downtown medical campus area. The food is okay, I wouldn't go back for the food. They have Karaoke on Tuesday nights which are good for people who don't want a big audience.

This is a must to go to. Their food was amazing. I had the pot pie and it was to die for. The crust was a puff pastry that they make in house. It melted in your mouth. The service was extremely helpful and pleasant. She suggested the pot pie and I am glad she did. I'll be back :)

I'm told this is one of the oldest taverns in the area, so we stopped by for lunch a couple days in a row as it was conveniently walking distance. First lunch, I had a beef on weck. The roast beef was very tough, but overall the sandwich was flavorful. Second lunch, I tried a fried baloney which was very tasty with coarse mustard. Service was pretty good - our Day 1 waiter had to split a bill for a table of 10. Day 2 we had a friendly waitress who made some recommendations - hence my fried baloney as a WNY favorite. Can't beat the atmosphere! This century plus tavern is charmingly authentic with beautiful woodwork and copper ceilings

This is another place you need to discover. The bartenders are great, the food is great, and the customers are great too! A very friendly and diverse environment. The food is great, but what I like the most is their turkey sandwich during the afternoon, as they have the best lunch menu in downtown Buffalo. Don't get me wrong, their dinners are great too, but I just developed a relationship with that turkey sandwich, served with your choice of potato chips or fresh fries. I go with fresh fries -- delicious. Once you visit the place, you will definitely go back, over and over again. It's also a great place to hang out...... very sociable, lots of smiling faces, creating magic in the air...

I've tried many beef on weck in Buffalo and Hands down this is the best one! Love that they also have Pierogi's, schnitzel and potato pancakes. Can't go wrong here. Plenty of beers on tap. Just wish all drafts were on happy hour. I need to also mention Tree and Simon are great attentive bartenders!

Maybe my favorite restaurant, among many great eateries, in Buffalo, NY. I have now been there 3 times, and have had 3 delicious meals. The chicken pot pie was delicious, the Mac and BBQ was outstanding, and the Knockwurst sandwich (with homemade German potato salad) was perhaps the best dish yet. Beer selection is very good (i.e., not just pale ales and IPA's - they have a nice selection of German Lager's and Pilsner's on tap), the atmosphere is nice, and the bartender and waitresses are very friendly. Will definitely return.

This is a so-so spot. While they've tried to improve it the atmosphere is still divey and the service isn't so great. They are a convenient spot for those of us working on the medical campus and drinks are reasonably priced so it's easy to wind up there. Their outdoor seating is limited in quality considering how close you are to the road and the level of noise. They've apparently started doing karaoke on certain nights so I want to check that out at some point still.

Unfortunately, Ulrich's was one of the more disappointing restaurant experiences I've had in quite a while. I really had high hopes for this place, as there is a large German population in Buffalo. In a nutshell, this place has an identity crisis. The potato pancakes were underwhelming and overpriced. They were far too thin, and there was really nothing to them. The menu as a whole doesn't seem like a German menu. This may be by design, but if so, why? There were only two German beers on the menu, which also left a lot to be desired. Ulrich's has a nice atmosphere inside and is a historic building and I really wished it was better. I think if they decided to go 'full-German' they would benefit a lot. Until then, Scharf's remains the best German food in the area, so head there instead!

The chicken fingers and fries were excellent. There was one server for three tables amounting to 9 people and the service was slow and inattentive. It seemed the server was clueless regarding the menu and waiting on guests. I ordered the roast beef sandwich and it was awful. The meat was way well done, tough, and tasteless. How they could serve this to a customer is beyond me. There are way too many places in Buffalo that serve great beef on week. Ulrichs is clearly not one of them.

Not the same Ulrich, very few German items. Food is quality though and the chips are made in house and delish.

I've been looking forward to trying Ulrich's every since I sampled their delicious beet and herbed goat cheese salad at the 2014 Yelpies. The atmosphere is lively, it's a great restaurant for gathering, and the decor is tavern to the fullest! That's so great to see and is definitely a good start to any experience. As far as the food is concerned: It's OK. As I prefer vegetarian fare, Ulrich's fell a little flat on flavors. While their meat may be incredible, that might be as far as their cooking mastery goes which was a little upsetting to discover. I'd still go back and give it another shot because it wasn't actually a terrible experience, it's just...there is so much better food elsewhere.

One of the oldest restaurants in Buffalo and it was my first time there. Our waitress was super friendly. I was expecting mostly German fare, but was surprised by the variety. Everyone was very pleased - bratwurst, potato pancakes, Caesar salad, Mac and cheese. We decided that my meal was by far the best. I had the "Bran-Wich." A waffle made from corn bread and cilantro topped with pulled pork, bacon and a cole slaw made with cranberries served with a side of maple syrup. Ok, I know that sounds like a lot going on. It was amazing!!! A great value at only $13. Will go back just for this dish.

Nice looking restaurant and bar. All of the food was OK. Roast beef on weck was over cooked. Mac & cheese tasted of powdered cheese hardly creamy, although the Mac was cooked perfectly. Great beer selection! Would not recommend, as service was extremely slow

I came here on a Sunday evening to wind down the weekend -- great choice. Very cool place -- it has an old-timey, Buffalo-heritage feel that I can definitely appreciate. Someone told me it's one of, or the oldest bar/tavern in Buffalo? There was no one at the bar and only a few tables full in the large back dining area. After a great meal, I was surprised this place is so empty. Free popcorn! I opted to take advantage of this instead of ordering an app. My friend and I both ordered steak Remoulade -- flank steak wrapped in bacon in a mustard sauce. It came with awesome, vinegary German potatoes. Phenomenal meal. Great beer selection, too -- I had a Great Lakes Raspberry Chocolate porter that was delicious. They must have some sort of relationship with Great Lakes, as I've seen the GLBC Twitter tweet endorsements of Ulrich's and Ulrich's has a ton of GLBC Beers. The waitress was nice and the owner or manager came over to see how everything was. I'll definitely be back for some excellent German food. Thanks for the recommendation, cousin Matt.

I had a ton of fun here, we had a happy hour after work there the other night and it was a great time. The staff was friendly, the drinks were great and the appetizers were solid. First off when you go there you need to realize that it's one of the oldest bars in Buffalo so the inside is old school and rustic. I had a few whiskey sours that were just right and not to over powering. We also had appetizers that were being brought around the happy hour and I had Ruben bites which were dipped in thousand islands dressing which were delicious, followed by bacon wrapped scallops and finished off with some bbq and butter sauce chicken. For bar fair and drinks this place is a fun hang out and I will definitely be coming back after work for some happy hour drinks and finger foods!

Stopped in for an early lunch so it wasn't busy and got a seat no problem. The dinning room is aged and could use a little eye for design to play with the historic atmosphere. The service was fine and didn't have any problems. Not memorable however. Good selection on the menu. The wiener schnitzel wasn't bad but not great. I was hoping for brewed iced tea, sweet or unsweetened, ended up being from the gun. I settled for the hot stuff. Overall I'll be back, I'd love to sit at the bar for a drink. Here's hoping for excellence from Buffalo's oldest tavern.

Three of us stopped in for lunch today. My wife got beef on weck with chips. Our son and I got the knockwurst. He got macaroni and cheese, and I ordered the German potatoes. Disappointed verdict from all. Blah food. At least we didn't have to wait to be seated and the waitress was on the ball. Their Ulrich's Pilsner is worth a trip, if you want to sip a few tall cool ones. Excellent beer! The food doesn't cut it, however. They played 40+ year old rock, if that grabs you. Otherwise, I would avoid Ulrich's unless you are just here for drinks.

Visiting from VA, one of the best places I have eaten in a long time !!!!! Incredible flavor, great service !!!! And I am German!!!!

Out of fish. On a Friday. Out of cream. Couldn't make mac and cheese. A $16 bowl of spiral macaroni with a piece of Salmon...no salad/vegetables/etc. Forgot the appetizer. Close to 45 minutes to get it. Surly waitress. All that for a $90 bill.... Never again.

I was here for the Oktoberfest celebration last fall. They did a really nice job with music and food that was suited to the German tradition.

This restaurant and my experience on Friday definitely deserves a raise in the orifinal rating I gave! Came here with my manager and a client (again) and was kind of expecting the worst. I was proven wrong! The fish fry was completely different, for the better. They added some delicious bleu cheese coleslaw and changed their shoe string fries to seasoned fries. The service also greatly improved! Before, it would be over 2 hours in and out for lunch. This time was exactly an hour. Again, a great change.

I heard Ulrich's finally reopened under new ownership so I stopped in for lunch. First off, I liked the food at the old Ulrich' but their kitchen never seemed to be open when I wanted to go. The New Ulrich's has regular kitchen hours every day. I ordered the Oktoberfest place which comes with 3 different sausages, and sauerkraut. They were delicious. I also had the potato pancakes which were served with sour cream, Apple sauce and half of a roasted apple. Delicious! The beer selection was very good they are supporting several local brewery on draft and they have German beers as well on draft and a good selection of bottles. I will be back to try other items on their menu. In addition the city was freshly paving the road in front and there are a couple of electric car chargers on the road just up the street. The Ellicott St corridor is coming to life with Ulrich's, Tappo, and soon Big Ditch Brewing.

I just received an order of a roast beef sandwich with fries via SkipTheDishes, the delivery arrive promptly from the time I ordered it, as they are just down the street from my house, however the roast beef was packed in a bag separate from the rest of the food and was ice cold, I guess they're leaving it up to me to heat it up which is very bizarre.

This is not the old Ulrich's that I knew I loved. Granted, one thing I liked about the old Ulrich's was the fact that it needed some aesthetic updating. The new Ulrich's accomplished this (only in the bar area - the bathrooms and the back dining area have not changed). With the updates, the charm disappeared. The beer selection is lacking. The bartenders don't give off the same "neighborhood/corner bar" impression as the former owner. The food is mediocre, uninspired and way too expensive for what it is. The portions are HUGE - I would have preferred to pay $3-4 less for half the size. Simply not necessary. Perhaps my low rating is solely rooted in my longing for the old Ulrich's, which may not be entirely fair. I miss the days when we would belly up to the bar, be greeted by a gruff older bartender who always remembered us, surrounded by older patrons, get a quality beer and then listen to some live Irish, German or Polish music. Sadly, these charms are a thing of the past.
