"The Ulster American Folk Park I normally avoid experiences with the word 'folk' in them, but this is actually an interesting place to spend the day, popping in and out of the recreations of traditional thatched cottages from times past, plus emigrant sailing ships, recreations of traditional streets and even the log cabins of the American Frontier. You can chat to costumed characters along the way, who demonstrate traditional crafts and food and tell stories, a great way to bring history to life."

Brilliant museum! A living history lesson. So well laid out and presented. Every house, bakery, craft, school, blacksmith, sweet stall to the ship bound for Baltimore, America had active people in costume relating stories, traditions & customs of the Irish people in the late 1700’s to mid 1800’s. I just loved it and you will too. Make this top of your list of places to visit in Northern Ireland. 🇮🇪 These immigrants were the lucky ones 🍀

If you're nearby (esp if you're American) don't miss this place! What a gem to learn about life in the late 1700's -1800's, why people immigranted to America, and what it was like. They've put so much thought into this place and the people working there were really genuine and knowledgeable. We spent 4 hours and I wish I could have gone back, it does get a 'wee' 😉 bit tiring, so bring snacks or take breaks. Hopefully you'll have better weather than us and can sit in the sun!

Well worth the visit, a great day out. The park is well laid out, making you feel like you've gone back in time. The staff are super friendly and they are very good at being the time period characters providing lots of fantastic information. The gift shop has a good selection of books and there is a cafe for refreshments or a treat after walking around the park.

Visited with a 7 and 10 year old. The staff were excellent and so engaging. Everyone in the group really enjoyed it. Spent over 3 hrs there (brought some lunch with us). Couldn’t recommend enough!

Very well presented story of the Ulser Scots and their path to the new world, like many of my ancestors followed. After walking through exhibits of what life was like an Ulster, he walked through a port town in Ireland, onto a ship, and then out at a Port Town in the new world. World. Then you walk through exhibits of cabins and houses in the new world, mostly Pennsylvania but with important additions from West Virginia and Tennessee. The people in these cabins and exhibits explained what they were showing, from general stores to home sites with every other trade well represented. They were very well informed and presented what seemed like very accurate and detailed information including things like samples of soda bread. This is a well-done very well researched exhibit and I highly recommend it.

Yelp
We enjoyed a really fantastic day together here at the folk park, met up with another family of 4, so we had a big gang of 8 walking together through the park, in pouring rain, and it was a perfect day! We had children ages 6-15 and each one thought it was fascinating, the adults, too. It went on a bit too long for me- I was so surprised how many stops there were on the tour- and I ran out of stream! So come well-rested and prepared with good walking shoes and an umbrella, if needed. Cute gift shop. Very nice café. Loved it! Highly

Yelp
It's been so long since we were here last that we'd forgotten almost all of it. Maybe it's just a series of senior moments but I'll tell you what it's superb and a great way to spend 3 or more hours. There's no down side to this place. This is a superb living park where you walk through 18th & 19th century thatched cottages, a blacksmiths forge, a school house, a Roman Catholic Church, a Meeting House, a bank, general stores, barns, log cabins, you'll board a ship (to go from Ireland to America) meet the captain and you'll meet other delightful costumed characters who demonstrate traditional crafts, tell real stories. They are very likely to share good food with you. We had pumpkin pie, a molasses based shoo fly pie, apple pie, fruit cake and other goodies. Many of the buildings were dismantled from their original places in Ireland & America and re-built here. The influential Mellon family feature (banking, oil, steel and shares in HJ Heinz & General Motors) as does the Campbell family. Both families are originally from the area so further adding to the authenticity of the park. There are 44 separate outdoor places to go visit in addition to the exhibitions inside and notably they have a very good Titanic exhibition. So a dry day is essential or at least a dry half day. There's also a very good cafe with tasty food rather than the rubbish a lot of places serve up these days. In fact if I was close by I'd go here to eat without going into the folk park.

Yelp
Seriously interesting. Wish we had more time to wonder about. I thought the kids, aged five and nine, would be bored, but they loved it. Great historic information for the grown-ups, with enough to keep the little ones occupied.

Yelp
We tend to go here every year im getting a bit bored of it as its the same thing year after year the novelty has worn off as they havent added to it in the past few years. its about ulster farmers/people and there immigration to the new world america and how they becaqme settlers there. im more into my ulster scots thought with ulster scots being so big here now the might have brought a bit of that into the early bit. graet events throughout the year check out local press for details and the imformation they provide does entertain children and of course the american vistors.
