58 reasons to love Singapore: The hotels, F&B and nightlife edition - SilverKris

"A hidden izakaya and umeshu bar tucked behind vending machines in a multi-level mall, offering a secretive, convivial setting and a menu that celebrates Japanese-style small plates and plum wines." - Dinesh Ajith, Michelle Lim, Gwen Pew, Mrigaa Sethi and Ee Ming Toh

Finally, a great hangout spot that puts umeshu front and center! Sample a wide range of umeshu paired with small bites, or heavy ones. It’s literally hidden behind a row of faux vending machines—look for the one with the Ume San 100 sign. Inside, you’ll find a cozy, welcoming space perfect for small groups. We tried the premium and fruity tasting sets, plus the Umeguro (umeshu negroni) to kick things off. The premium set was excellent for savoring pure, good quality umeshu, while the fruity ones—especially blood orange and pineapple—were bold and refreshing. The Umeguro looked the best (complete with a short fire show I failed to catch), though the gin and Campari overpowered the umeshu. Food was a bit of a mixed bag. The Uni Croquettes had crispy and warm panko, but the uni flavor was barely there—tasty, just not very “uni.” The Fugu Karaage was a pleasant surprise: tender fish with a light, crispy salt-and-pepper batter. The Truffle Saikoro Steak was juicy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the premium umeshu. The Money Bags were hit-and-miss. Thin, not-so-sweet inari but decent tuna and salmon fillings. We’d skip the ramen next time; it tasted like instant noodles, though the fresh seaweed, spring onions, and gooey ajitama helped a little.

Good food is happiness in every bite. Umesan Nachi Pagoda is a fresh take on Japanese appetizers — crispy wonton chips, flavorful bites, and my favorite, umeshu. Started with Jasmine Umeshu, then the tea set — each sip irresistible. Cozy vibes, friendly staff, and endless umeshu love. 🍶✨

While I didn't take many photos on this occasion, the restaurant offers an excellent umeshu tasting flight of three varieties, as other reviewers have noted. We visited on a weekday evening and were able to get a table without a reservation. The decor is lovely, and the service was a standout, with one of the Indian staff members being particularly attentive. A great feature is their policy of allowing you to taste a wine before committing to a full bottle. Take the chance to try as many as you want. ;) The food was a significant disappointment and felt vastly overpriced for the quality. The dry prawn ramen was comparable to a food court dish, and the chicken karaage, at $22 for six plain pieces (or less can't remember), seemed excessively expensive. The Wagyu steak was slightly better, but at $22, it did not offer good value. Unfortunately, this place holds a sad memory for me. I came here with the person I loved so much, but we had a major quarrel during our visit and haven't been on talking terms since.

This is a lovely Japanese-style bar with a nice and cozy atmosphere. The music is good and relaxing. I really enjoyed the French fries, they were crispy and tasty. The staff and bartender were very friendly and polite. The drinks were also very good. Overall, it’s a great place to enjoy a calm and pleasant evening.

This is a cozy place to relax, and I appreciate the wide range and variety of umeshu choices. However, I think it's better to chill the umeshu first before serving it with ice, as the temperature and taste of the drink wasn't ideal. The food was quite average; I enjoyed the beef, but everything else was pretty ordinary. The real draw here is the decor and the overall cozy atmosphere.

Finally got the try this. It’s nice just very ex. $22 before tax for noodles and $22 for tasting ume set from wakayama. So about $80 for 2 pax. Didn’t make reservations so got the bar seat which was still good

I was recommended by a friend to come here, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were even better. Martin and Drake provided outstanding service to me and my friend, who was celebrating a birthday. The food arrived quicker than expected, and every dish was delicious! Huge thanks to the chef behind the kitchen. Martin was not only friendly but also knowledgeable, sharing interesting conversations about the drinks and clearly knowing his craft. Drake was just as welcoming, recommending drinks that we ended up loving. Thank you, Ume san, for such an amazing experience. We’ll definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
the staff here at umesan are so friendly and helpful! i entered as a customer but left as a friend. as soon as i entered one staff helped me with taking photos and videos and both staffs were so lovely to talk to! i think this bar is quite solo friendly! hot mess w lavender spray: this cocktail was super tasty. i mentioned to the bartender that i liked florals so he added a lavender spray at the end. i waited a bit to drink it so i couldn't taste the lavender so i think my review should be accurate for the regular cocktail. the cocktail has both rose and elderflower umeshu. usually elderflower can be a hit or miss bc of how sweet it can get but this was nicely balanced. one thing was i wish i could taste more rose. i loved the sakura sugar powder on top and it gave a really nice drinking experience smelling the cinnamony sakura while drinking. 4/5
