Typically, office tendencies would encompass a ton of snacking am I right, or am I right? So a dose of Umeke would leverage the unhealthy snacking consumption that happens during the weekdays. Honestly, this place is an absolute gem with the friendliest people you'll ever meet! For those who haven't had vegan food, Umeke is that good that you might be converted to become a vegan or vegetarian! On the other hand, their servings are so generous, but you won't be left feeling overstuffed after which is a plus!
Here are my top three favorite picks:
Korean Mock Chicken: I know this might sound questionable to my meat eater foodies, but trust me on this. The mock chicken greatly resembles like actual chicken and the texture when you bite into it, it's just like the actual thing! What really makes this one of my top favorite picks would be the Korean sauce. The chicken is dressed in a sweet glaze that is so crispy and sticky; and it left me dumbfounded knowing that this is not actual meat! This was the beginning of my obsession with Umeke Market.
Mama T's Enchilada: Features Local taro and organic black beans rolled in organic tortillas with a savory organic enchilada sauce. Don't forget to ask for the organic cashew queso. Yes you heard me, a vegan queso. There's a spicy kick in every bite, but the enchilada literally melts in your mouth. Also, you can only get this on Fridays!
Kalo Cookies: These are so addicting. Once upon a time, I went to Umeke, every-single-weekday for these babies that are gluten free!
Here are some tips: They have an array of options to choose from, and if you go before 11:45, you can get the mini (1 Option and a side of greens or rice) or regular lunch plate (2 Options and a side of greens and rice) at early bird prices! Sign up for their email newsletters to see the daily specials: Whether it be their kalua jack and cabbage or their delicious kalo musubis.
They're located on Bishop, on the complete opposite end of the American Savings Bank building (the old one). For those unfamiliar of the area, the best place to park would be the Ali'I Place.
