Flavour explosion is the first word to come to mind after visiting UMI for a delicious lunch. Every item we ordered was prepared with care and beautifully presented. Lots of options for vegetarians as well. Left with a full and happy belly. Would absolutely recommend!

Popped in while escaping the rain, and it turned out to be a great decision! Located near the university, this place is a hidden gem. The decor and furniture are stylish and unique, giving it a distinctive charm compared to most restaurants around Edinburgh. We ordered the Bo Tan Set, eel stone bowl rice and Ibérico Shogayaki. The sashimi and seafood were incredibly fresh and expertly prepared. The eel rice was a real standout, easily one of the best I’ve had in the UK. Service was quick and attentive and the cozy atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable. They were also very careful with allergens, double-checking everything when we mentioned a peanut allergy which we really appreciated. While it’s not the cheapest spot, the quality of the food and service makes it well worth it. Highly recommend!

My go-to japanese restaurant in Edinburgh for any occasion. I’ve probably tried half of their menu by now and there’s never been a miss. High quality sashimi, amazing tempura, and wide selection of rolls sushi. Great sake. Very cute place too. Absolutely recommend!

Absolutely delicious. We had sushi and ramen, both were great. Also the restaurant is very nice inside. Unfortunately our sushi had sesame on it even though we requested it to not have sesame on it due to allergies. Upon mentioning this to the staff, they swifly gave us a new portion without sesame. So great service. The price is also fair.

My boyfriend and I went for a romantic dinner at this restaurant, and we absolutely loved it. The place has a cozy yet classy and elegant atmosphere, with private cubicle-style tables and small curtains that make the experience even more intimate. The food was absolutely delicious, and as I had been recommended before, the ramen was incredible—the best I’ve had so far! I am a huge fan ramen, so I’ll definitely be returning to try more ramen varieties. Highly recommend it for special occasions or simply for enjoying high-quality Japanese cuisine.

Oh. My. God. It happened. I've finally found a Japanese place that is absolutely divine (which took me years!). The interior - 5 stars, the service - 5 stars, the food - 5.5 stars out of 5. I ordered the stonebowl with salmon, salmon and avocado maki, and homenade mochi ice cream for dessert. The sizzling stone bowl with the freshest salmon and crispy rice (where is touched the bowl the longest) was lovely, the maki - gorgeous (to the extent that no picture was taken until I realised the plate's empty), and that mochi ice cream is honestly the best dessert I've ever had in Scotland (having been here since June '22). The staff were so friendly and the whole lunch experience SO, SO good! Next time I'm in Edi you bet you'll find me there, all the options on their menu make me want to try everything they have to offer. You're been warned that you're absolutely missing out if you never visit UMI. One love ❤️
