44 Best Hotels in Rome, According to a Local (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"With an unbeatable Via dell’Umiltà location near the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon, I found Umiltà 36 to be arty, cosmopolitan, and refined: a Grand Hall with contemporary art and a marble bust, jungle-wallpapered lobby lounge, and stylish bedrooms with herringbone floors and big windows. The 29 suites are worth splurging on for sweeping city views, while the 18 apartments on higher floors are ideal for longer stays with kitchen areas and rain showers." - Maresa Manara

"Why book?  A newcomer that’s bang central, with contemporary rooms, fine dining and a swanky cocktail bar. Set the scene This newcomer from the upmarket Shedir Collection portfolio (Hotel Maalot, Vilon Luxury Hotel) has an unbeatable location on Via dell’Umiltà: a short stroll to Trevi fountain, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, and around the corner from the shopping along Via del Corso. The vibe here is arty, cosmopolitan, and refined, from the contemporary art and marble bust in the high-ceilinged Grand Hall, through to the jungle-wallpapered lobby lounge. The bedrooms are stylish and contemporary, with herringbone flooring, eye-catching contemporary artworks on the walls and big, floor to ceiling windows that draw the light inside. The backstory Shedir Collection is the homegrown Italian luxury hotel group behind Hotel Maalot, Vilon Luxury Hotel, and now, Umiltà 36. They have plans to expand further across Milan and Rome, creating hotels for the cosmpolitan traveler wanting modern design and home-from-home amenities. The rooms The 29 suites here are worth the splurge; all feature contemporary design, marble bathrooms with walk-in showers, and sweeping city views. Up on the higher floors, the 18 apartments are designed for guests looking for longer, more private stays: the living room spaces open into a kitchen area, and the bathrooms offer rain showers and double sinks. Food and drink There’s a big focus on drinking and dining here. The Dandy Cafe offers light lunch and dinner, while the swanky El Porteno Gourmet draws Rome’s highest rollers with its Argentinian-inspired menu. Terrace Flores is their rooftop terrace, complete with a tapas bar and a cocktail bar. Accessibility Umiltà 36 has accessible rooms on both the second and third floor." - Maresa Manara

Umiltà 36 (Rome, Lazio) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In a location as central as this — practically right around the corner from the Trevi Fountain — a bit of privacy and discretion pays big dividends. Umiltà 36 is tucked away on a side street that connects to the Via del Corso, and behind its door is a luxury boutique hotel whose interiors are alive with a contrast of styles, from Art Deco to classic modernism to modern and contemporary art. The rooms and suites are crisp and clean-lined, no Roman rough edges; public spaces include the Dandy Café restaurant and the brand new seafood restaurant Aquamarina." - Tablet Hotels

This was our first time in Rome. I was very nervous choosing a hotel for this trip, but seconds into stepping into the hotel, I knew the right choice was made. The decor makes you feel at home, it is warm and welcoming. You can sense that each detail of the hotel was carefully/thoughtfully executed. The staff are the most thoughtful, engaging beautiful human beings I have met. It felt as though we were their family. I truly appreciate the care and attention they provide to each person. Each of their characters shun through their smiles and conversations with us. The rooms are perfect, down the “intimate soap”provided for the bidet. We left for two days before returning and counted down the days for our return because this hotel felt like home. A sincere thank you to all the staff including, Marius, Alex, Laura from the dining area, Alessandra and Anna Laura. Thank you for our Italian lessons, your assistance with finding restaurants, and the conversations that made us feel at home. They truly made this a visit that we will remember. We will be back!

Our 6-night stay at Umiltà 36 was absolutely perfect in every way. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine smiles and outstanding hospitality. Every member of the team—from the check-in staff to the breakfast crew and housekeeping—was exceptionally friendly, professional, and attentive. A special mention goes to Allisandra, the beautiful and kind lady at reception, who made our stay unforgettable for the second time! Her warmth and care truly made us feel at home. And if I remember the name right, Carlos, the gentleman who helped with our luggage, was incredibly courteous and helpful throughout our stay — thank you for your kindness! The hotel’s interior is nothing short of spectacular — every corner feels like a work of art. It truly deserves an award for being one of the most Instagrammable places in Rome, with its elegant design, stunning lighting, and timeless atmosphere that captures both luxury and comfort. Grazie mille per tutto, Umiltà 36 .. you’ve captured our hearts once again. We can’t wait to return! ❤️🇮🇹

We ve just spent 5 nights at this beautiful hotel. The location is perfect, right in the center yet in a quiet square. The breakfast was great and made even more special by Laura, a fantastic waitress who was always so friendly and informative. She genuinely cares about all her guests and thus was visible in her daily interactions. The decor is modern and classy. Mini bar drinks are free and there’s a range of sweets and cakes in the lobby. I would definitely return.

This was our second year at this hotel, and it is very very cool, clean, modern, and the service is amazing. And there is a rooftop bar. The staff bent over backwards and knew we had a birthday and made a cake. This is a top notch operation. If you go to the breakfast, the two ladies there are wonderful. Laura at the restaurant will be your tour guide (can’t remember the other ladies name, but she is wonderful also), tell you all the places to go, and she is just the best. So wonderful. They both give you places to go, things to see, and are sooo excited for you to enjoy the town they were born and raised. Breakfast may be the highlight, based on the wonderful people. Also Mario at the reservation desk was the best - wish I could remember more people’s names, they were top notch across the board.

We had the best two night stay at this hotel. Walking distance to Fountain of Trevi and more, elegant, friendly, incredible decor and service. Our favorite person was Laura who sat us every morning for breakfast with a bright smile and got us the most delicious cappuccino asap. Allessandra (sp?) at the front desk was also lovely. This hotel is pricey but well worth every penny.

We stayed at Umiltà 36 for 3 nights, and overall it was a beautiful experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, always checking in to make sure we were comfortable. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on every time, which added so much to our stay. We booked the Deluxe Double Room, which was both cozy and spacious, with elegant decor and thoughtful details. The location is truly unbeatable right in the heart of Rome, within walking distance to almost everything. The only downside, and it was a significant one, was the noise from outside. Unfortunately, the windows weren’t soundproof enough and we could clearly hear street noise from people talking, rolling suitcases, to traffic even late at night. For light sleepers, this could be a real issue. Everything else was top-notch and with improved sound insulation, it would easily be a perfect stay. Still, a stylish, well located hotel with excellent service that’s worth considering.

The hotel is stunning. From the moment you walk in you notice the details and decorations. They did a fantastic job of mixing new/avante garde with classical touches. We stayed in the suite with a patio. We could not have been happier with room, the amenities (mini bar included) and quality of bedding. The food at the hotel is fantastic as well. The only reason I am not giving the hotel 5 stars is for two reasons. Our international flight from the US was cancelled and we arrived a day late. We booked the hotel through Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts and we were informed the hotel would not refund one night (nearly $1,500). I understand this is not the fault of the hotel but I had a similar experience several years earlier and the Ritz Carlton in Geneva Switzerland was quick to adjust our reservation and take the night off our bill. While I don’t expect the hotel to cover the costs of the airlines issues, there was nothing offered to help ease the pain of a wasted night. No dinner or lunch or discount of any form. You stay at luxury hotels you expect luxury service and the hotel did not provide anything other than a “that’s terrible, we won’t do anything.” The second issue we had was using the hotel to book our airport transfers. I had to adjust the transfer due to the flight cancellation. I confirmed twice and received an email confirmation. When we arrived there was no driver there to greet us. I called the hotel and the hotel informed me that there was an issue with car provider. Not surprisingly, the car provider quickly called and said the hotel never made the reservation and they were scrambling to get a driver to us. After a flight cancellation and traveling for two days we had to spend an hour at the airport awaiting a driver. When we arrived at the hotel they told us we could eat at the breakfast buffet but we needed to be quick b/c it was closing. We obviously paid for it since they didn’t refund the room but we were not interested in being rushed after such a frustrating journey. It would have been a nice gesture to offer a complimentary lunch given the situation, but they offered absolutely nothing. I expect more from a hotel that bills itself as a luxury hotel. The hotel nailed it on the decor, rooms and amenities but missed the boat completely on customer service. I would stay again, but only if I was in Italy and certain I could make the reservation. I will not book the hotel again if it’s our first stop on an international trip. It was an expensive mistake to make.

We absolutely loved this hotel! It truly feels like a hidden gem—perfectly located near major attractions in Rome, including the Trevi Fountain. The staff were exceptional across the board—bellmen, front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant team—all incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooftop bar offers stunning views, and both the restaurant and breakfast exceeded our expectations. Our room was quiet, spotless, and beautifully decorated. Overall, a fantastic stay—we can’t wait to return!
