Umngazi Hotel & Spa Wild Coast

Wow..wow…wow !! Just a great place to chill, unwind, eat good food, enjoy raw nature. The setting is magnificent with stunning beaches a short ride across the river on a complimentary ferry that runs at your request. Nice bar area vibe. Great food throughout the day with a wide varied offering. Fish feast on a Saturday, relaxed braai on a Sunday. Excellent service. The spa is highly recommended with some of the best treatment we have ever had at reasonable prices. Relaxing in a spa bath with my wife overlooking the river/beach was a special way to finish the spa sessions. Rooms are clean and in keeping with the resort. The hotel recommended Sun Shuttle Services from Umtata airport - they were very efficient.

Our stay at Umngazi Hotel and Spa was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the warm, friendly staff, the fantastic accommodation, and the breathtaking setting.||||The food was an absolute highlight — we enjoyed exceptionally good meals every single day. Whether it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the variety and quality were outstanding. You can really taste the care and attention that goes into every dish.||||The rooms were comfortable, beautifully maintained, and perfect for a relaxing stay. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is peaceful and welcoming — exactly what you want for a family holiday. There's so much to do for both adults and kids, yet it also gives you space to unwind and just take in the beauty around you.||||Everything was 100% — from the service to the amenities, we truly couldn’t fault a thing. Umngazi is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back. If you’re looking for the perfect mix of luxury, nature, and family-friendly charm, this is the place to be.||||Highly recommended!

The food and service at Umngazi are amazing. Superb maintained resort. Very friendly people making your stay a relaxed and most enjoyable one. Sunset river cruise very special. Just a pity that you cannot walk to the beach as a result of the big storm damage of some time ago, but the "river shuttle boat" to the beach on the other side of the river is operated very professionally and convenient - it brings a different experience to your stay (positive)

As a solo female traveller safety is always my concern, at Umngazi I never felt unsafe. Security is tight and I never felt like I had to worry about a thing. Enjoyed every minute of my time here! Excellent service from the staff. Great scenery. My favourite was my spa treatment and sunset boat cruise. A place where i left rested & recharged. Will definitely make my way back!😁

The best getaway. Too beautiful. Natures admires and adventures. Perfect romantic getaway yet perfect for family A one-stop-shop. Easy to drive there, we drove from Johannesburg, the roads were good.||Ocean Views- The best, lovey landscape with a dash of cattle beauty. My room was best with a fireplace. The food was super great. Spa treatments and the boat rides. GOD Resides in UMNGAZI

We had the most amazing time at Umngazi. It is the perfect destination for families. The food is AMAZING. Every meal felt like fine dining. And we loved the kiddies dining room with their little buffets at each meal. ||The rooms are stunning, spacious and clean. The outdoor showers are a treat.||We also loved the evening vibes at the bar.||Finally, the nanny services were excellent - we highly recommend Alisha.

Our stay was two sided. Good and very bad||The premium rooms and location are very good and the hotel has charged in line with this quality. They have however failed to upgrade the services that support these items. The hotel seems stuck in the "Old style family hotel" and have failed to provide hotel and restaurant service in line with the rates charged for the premium rooms. Afternoon teas are far from adequate and very basic. Hot water that is provided in vacuum flasks (out of date) and certainly not what is expected when paying top price in premium rooms. Food follows a similar style with little finesse. The chef is very good, but he is let down by how the food is served and the service quality in the restaurant. Quick and rushed "in and out" is the hotel expectation (eat your 4 course meal - self serve salad---served starter/main- - self serve desert , tea or coffee) or it gets cleaned away ||We reserved accommodation for our return trip in advance - but on arrival only to find our booking had been cancelled by some eager booking staff, with no communication, because they thought our second visit was a duplicate booking, despite us having confirmed the booking and the room number before we departed after out first visit. The long access road is very bad and needs urgent attention. When we asked about poor wi-fi service in all areas of this venue - we were told its for our benefit not to have wi-fi .....go figure||Sadly not on our list for a return visit.......until we hear they can deliver improved service and facilities at least in line with the room price charged for this spectacular location

My husband and I visited Umngazi from the 12th to the 14th of September 2025 to celebrate our 16 year wedding anniversary. |This was our 3rd visit to this piece of heaven on earth.|We had the best weekend, the staff were friendly,the Spa treatments were an out of this world experience. Thank you Seka and Xole. The room was beautiful and very clean and neat, I loved the outdoor shower and the the food was amazing, compliments to the chef and his amazing team.|Thank you Jakes for being so friendly and entertaining.|We will definitely be back soon.
