I stayed with my family (two adults, 9-year old child) at Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge this past weekend. I'll start by saying we aren't big campers, but we had a wonderful time. The "rooms" are canvas tents with bathrooms (including a simple shower) and real beds. There's no electricity, but they provide lanterns and backup batteries to charge your devices. Our room also had a sofa bed, as well as a small kids tent just outside the main tent which had 2 twin beds in it. The main tent had a gas stove, but we still piled on the blankets at night. The kids tent did not have a heater so my son slept on the sofa bed in our tent instead (could be less of an issue once the weather warms up a little bit more at night). There was no wifi on-property, and while there were areas on the road where I had no service (T-mobile), I could get a signal on the property. Speaking of road, be aware that the last couple miles or so of the road to the property are unpaved gravel.||The views from all over the property (I'm pretty sure all of the tents) were incredible. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, telling us all about Under Canvas. It turns out that most of the properties actually take the tents down completely during the off season, leaving just the platform and shower pan to be covered by a tarp during the winter. Very cool/impressive design.||There was one restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, plus a separate grab and go lunch. We were not on property during lunch time, which I guess is probably the case for most other guests as well. We ate breakfast and dinner there and the food was good as well as reasonably priced (especially considering they have a captive audience!). They had complimentary coffee and tea 24 hours a day, and those were also good. No food is allowed in the tents, to prevent rodents and other critters, but if you bring your own food you are welcome to eat it in the central common area.||In the evening there were free s'mores, including regular (Hershey's) and "mystery" bags which had other chocolate options (I saw Reese's, Kit Kat, Heath Bar and Hershey's Cookies & Creme). The central area of the property and especially the firepits turned out to be a nice gathering place to meet other guests. Chatting with other guests in the evening was a highlight of the stay. ||As a booking through Hyatt (not sure if because I'm a Globalist or all Hyatt bookings) I received a $20 credit to use on merchandise in their little shop. They have a nice selection of board games and card games to borrow during your stay. There were a couple of telescopes, as well.||Under Canvas offered activities you could book directly (fly fishing, guided hikes, white water rafting) but we didn't book any of those so I can't comment on the quality. We did several hikes in the area. Most of them were actually not that close to the property, and in fact may have been as close or closer, in some cases, to Portland than to Under Canvas. This wasn't a barrier for us, however, just an observation.||Overall it was a really enjoyable stay, and I hope to visit more Under Canvas properties soon.
