Under Kastanjen

Enjoyable little cafe hidden slightly around a corner in a courtyard among the streets of Gamla Stan. As we walked the streets we popped by to grab some coffee and pastries. Get some cold water as you relax and do some people watching in the shade. Also check out their cool underground seating, especially so if you're in for dinner.

I had wonderful meals at this restaurant in Stockholm, located in the heart of Gamla Stan. I enjoyed various options, fish and seafood stew, the classic meatballs, a hamburger, and the chocolate cake in dessert. The restaurant offers a cozy bistro vibe during lunch, while transforming into a slightly pricier dining experience in the evening. The service was excellent each time, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Highly recommend for both the great food and the charming atmosphere, whether you visit for a casual lunch or a more refined dinner!

A nice place for a chill drink. The atmosphere is nice but every time I visited the place it was difficult to get mulled wine or anything like this because it was out. Still a nice place for some snacks and wine.

We were walking the lanes of Gamla Stan, saw this place and just wanted to be a part of the atmosphere so we asked for a table for two, outside and enjoyed an Irish Coffee each as there was a chill in the air. The Irish Coffee was very enjoyable.

The location of this restaurant is just so idealic 💖 the food was great, although I was not too impressed with my teriyaki chicken salad. The pasta with prawns was exquisite. The staff were so friendly, kind and accommodating. We booked in advance but I don't think it was required. There is a large seating area inside and outdoors. I would definetely recommend and I am looking forward to going back 😊

Nice and shady underneath a big chestnut tree. Kind of self service but not quite as so busy and crowded as elsewhere. We had two Kōttbullar and two cappuccino for 534 Kr but they added another 10% for extra tax. Not sure what that is for.

Self service. Nice place. But I think I m not a fan of the swedish meatballs (at least not in the sauce they serve with here).

Really good meatballs with a delicious sauce and smooth and creamy smashed potatoes for 215 Kr (around 19 euros). A glass of water for free. The attention was very fast, not long waiting time. The place was clean 👌. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to try local food in the Old Town area.
