‘Late Show’ Writer Kate Sidley’s Grub Street Diet

"An airport lounge used during a long layover that provided a quiet place to rest and recharge; the author snacked at the breakfast bar and had coffee while waiting through flight delays." - Alan Sytsma

Decent lounge, on the smaller side in terms of facilities. No showers, food & beverages selection are sufficient. They have a fresh ice cream machine, which was the highlight of the visit. There are also no recliners. There are few smal work stations.

Google
Nice lounge when it is not busy. It gets very loud and crowded with limited seating. The staff was great at cleaning. The selection of food was not bad. The bathrooms could be cleaner though but that comes from the guests and so staff should try to check it more often.

Google
The lounge itself is small but quite charming. I did not try the food, so I cannot comment on that. I would, however, like to share a note regarding the front desk staff: a bit more understanding and compassion would truly make a difference. For context, I was traveling with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday. Due to an unexpected family emergency, he had to board an earlier flight and, regrettably, had to leave me in the lounge. Shortly afterward, I was asked to leave solely because he was no longer present. While I understand policies, the situation could have been handled with more empathy and discretion, especially given the circumstances.

Google
Decent lounge. Not busy. Food looked fresh which was nice. Friendly staff.

Google
I have had a United Explorer credit card for years and I pay $100 a year to have that card. It comes with 2 free one time passes and they are never accepting one time passes. They are a scam!!! Look through the photos and you will see others posting photos of the same scam being played over and over again.

Google
Absolutely loved this lounge. Not sure if it was because I went on Thanksgiving day but it was half empty and the food selection was great. The amenities mentions 'light snacks' in their website but it was really good enough to be a proper meal. The whole lounge including restrooms were super clean. Comparing it to EWR United lounges this experience was 10x times better.

Google
Newer lounge that can be a bit crowded around peak travel times. Good food and drink selection. Disappointing they close at 11pm where there are quite a few redeye flights departing at midnight; they should at least stay open until 11:30.

Howard N.

Google
Very nice lounge with a large variety of food and drinks. Very crowded with long line to enter today though. Service is quick and friendly. Tables are cleaned often. Great lounge.

Yelp
One of the smaller United clubs but I live in Houston and normally travel through hubs (EWR, ORD and DEN). I'm just glad it was there and well-appointed (new / maybe updated). Centurion club was too far. Service was friendly, place went from crickets to filled up in about 20 minutes as flights were queuing up to depart. Food was good and bathrooms were clean. Really all you need unless on an intercontinental flight.

Yelp
Current status: grateful, growing, and glowing. While I prefer to travel for leisure, work travel has been filling up my calendar. We are a big United fan and supporter, largely because Denver is a hub. This United lounge in T3 of Sky Harbor was underwhelming. Service and staff is wonderful. Friendly, patient and welcoming to weary travelers pissed off at flight delays or long connections. I applaud your warm smiles!! The food selection is ok, typical items to tie you over. We arrived at breakfast hour and able to have some lunch as well. Cocktails are wonderful if you an indulge otherwise the expresso machine makes a strong latte and cappuccino. There's plenty of seating if it's not busy but generally there's more at the bar. But if you need to dock, you may have to coshare at a single table. I was disappointed we had a lady who was very ill sitting in the lounge area. No mask and potentially sick with respiratory issue or Covid and staff did not address her persistent coughing. It's really unsafe for other travelers and certainly immuno compromised guests. I chose my lounges selectively. But if you're in T3, you can wait here. For more flights. More options. More adventures.

Yelp
Overall I enjoyed being in the lounge but it's a small one. Service was great they refreshed drinks and food a lot during the rush. The selection of food was ok. The only reason why I come to club is for the private bathrooms and the comfy waiting area. It emptied out and there was only 10 people in there which was soooo nice and relaxing. I did not like the led lighting by the chairs it was super rough on the eyes and we couldn't turn it off or dim it.
google avatar

Yelp
Surprise l. Surprise. Everything food wise they offer is not made at the club. Yep the frittata in my case, boiled eggs they always offer any hot meats comes elsewhere. I've never seen this at a United club. They ignore folks who are vegan or flexitarian in my case. This just a cooked egg isn't doable. The supervisor who is extremely nice and helpful explained it's not a scratch kitchen. All they have is a warmer. This is the first United Club I've ever been to that goes this route. Im glad I drop 700 a year for this pleasure. It's a shame because this is a nice lounge and puts the American one to shame But fake food, pre-cooked or right from mix to heat warmer is an utter joke.

Yelp
Small but great club. They keep the area clean. As soon as you leave someone will come and mop down the table. The food although as another reviewer wrote is reheated, there was a great breakfast selection. They also have the illy espresso machine along with a coke free style machine. I only wish this club was larger as it has a very cramp feeling. The gelato machine makes up for it!
google avatar

Joanne H.

Yelp
Clean club! Does the job! Wish it would be a little tiny bit roomier. But good enough!
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
This United Club in Terminal 3 is one of the up-to-date clubs in the country from the all I have been to! The food and drink selection is larger and they added a gelato machine called "Solato" which is easy to manipulate and tasty!!
google avatar

Anthony A.

Yelp
For a small club United did this one right. the food selection is standard for an airline lounge. There's not a big selection, however the purpose is for snacking not unlimited buffet style eating. The intent for the smaller plates is to limit food. At least my thoughts. The staff is friendly and quick. They circle around and clean up as soon as the plate is left on the tables. The sound level varies, depending on the time of the day. All of the clubs are suffering from the cell phone zombies. Either someone is walking staring at their phone or talking loud to impress people that they are important. YUCK!

Yelp
Its been awhile since I have been to this club at SkyHarbor. Its not the biggest of the United Clubs, but its a place to get away from the crowd at the gate area, grab a drink and a little bit of food in some comfort. Plus it has great service at the bar area where you can get complimentary beer, bloody mary's or a glass of wine. Beyond the refreshments, at night time there was hot and cold food that included a salad bar, chicken, dessert and some more food to hold you over. Plus unlike other clubs, this club featured a gelato station with toppings! I am not sure if this is a permanent feature, but was a nice plus. Fellow customers seem to enjoy the gelato station as well. Plus the club features a nice view of the runway where I can watch my plane pulling into the gate right nextdoor. And as always there is wi-fi and private bathrooms to enjoy while you wait for your flight. Happy Travels!

Yelp
Okay United Club, they have a bar, and a soda machine (yipee, but not ice sadly), gelato machine (but no good flavors not even chocolate, no forks, haven't tried food yet.

Jessica P.

Yelp
This is a smaller lounge and way too crowded. Could not find a place to even sit for quite sometime. Soda machine wasn't working. The deserts are to the side and were okay. The Gelato machine has great gelato but too awhile to understand how it worked. Taste of buffet was also just all right and basic and nothing too memorable. They should think of incorporating lighter and healthier options other than so many carbs before a flight.
google avatar

Renee A.

Yelp
Clean environment and comfortable chairs. Plenty of work space and charging outlets. Small food area, but clean and maintained. Enough choices available. Staff is welcoming and friendly.
google avatar

Chanele R.

Yelp
Is this the biggest and fanciest lounge you can visit? No. But is it solid with good service and decent spread of food plus a full bar? Absolutely. I stopped in before a long day of travel to Europe, and it was the perfect way to start my journey. I was able to get a small assortment of breakfast items plus a mimosa with a smile. The bathrooms were clean, which is always a plus. It is not going to be a Polaris lounge, so don't expect that.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
Once again, here at this Club at Zero Dark 30 where today's main entree was a spinach and egg white bites which were not the norm that I would see at other Clubs where they have the Chorizo and scrambled eggs mixed together. Once the herd of passengers arrived and gotten their food and coffee, the Club thinned out within 30 minutes from when they opened. My only comment is that when this Club is busy the 3 individual gender neutral bathrooms can get backed up with guests waiting to use them.

Yelp
On my way out of PHX, the United Club was near my gate. I had plenty of time, so I decided to give it a whirl. Positives: Nice staff Negatives: Limited bfast options. There was no bfast meat; Three deep line for three unisex restrooms; Small space overall. United lounge passes cost $59, if you don't have status or a co-branded card. I don't think I received good value. It was an mid-morning flight, and I wasn't in the mood for a drink. I expected a nicer lounge, with better food options in a good sized airport.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of visiting United Club lounges all over the US and this was easily one of the worst: - soda machine out of basically all options except sparkling water and regular coke - no alt milks for coffee - bathrooms with no soap - terrible food/snack options - bartenders that were not at all friendly or attentive Thankfully we don't need to come to PHX often. I feel sorry for United members that are based here.

Yelp
Our UA1110 departed PHX Gate E3 at 1:30 PM. The United Club was also near Gate E3. We were last here at this United Club in April 2024. I was able to visit my daughter and her family at a nearby E gate. Their flight was prior to our flight. I took some of the snacks from the United Club to give to my daughter and her children including M&Ms. When we arrived the club was empty, but as time went on the club became crowded. The individual bathrooms are located at the far end of the club. I enjoyed my usual three proseccos. I also enjoyed the food here. I also enjoyed their Solato Gelato machine, which is rare to find at other United Clubs.

Yelp
First off they have 3 single restrooms for the entire lounge. So half of your time there is waiting in line for a bathroom. The bathrooms are on par with the airports so go to the bathroom before you get there. The seating is limited to say the least so be prepared to sit on the floor. Then when it comes to the bar. I've been to United lounges in a variety of cities. This was the first time the bartender made me feel like I was bothering her for a drink. After the first drink the remaining came with half shots (I warched her measure them out and pour it out before filling it up) they are free I can't complain. But then she started to give me my glass with a comical amount of ice, almost like she was trying to hide the lack of a pour. It was the first time in me entire life that I had cash on me and did not tip the bartender. She made me feel unwelcome and down right uncomfortable. Phoenix if you want to pretend to be a major city with a major airport you need to vastly change your United club.

Yelp
First time at this United Club lounge, good size with good food selection (breakfast hours). Both hot and cold food selections. Variety of fresh fruits, pastries, warm breakfast food, juices and coffee. Very clean, with employees constantly clearing off tables. Nice bar with selection of beers on tap. Don't understand the negative reviews. It's a nice place to relax have a meal and a few drinks.
google avatar

Matt W.

Yelp
This United Club is located next to Gate E3 in Terminal 3 at Sky Harbor. It is a newer club in the system and the inside is nice. Unfortunately, it is a little small and it can be hard to find a seat during peak times. The food is about the same as other smaller United Clubs. Try the gelato machines if you are having a tough travel day.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't understand the neutral reviews for what I believe to be one of United's finest lounges. Been a United member for 10 years, I've sampled over a dozen different United lounges across the US and the Phoenix lounge is one of the finest I have experienced. Actually, it's the best! Fresh, airy, lots of windows, plenty of seating, immaculately clean, the staff were contagiously pleasant, and the food? Unlike other locations that just serve bagels, scrambled eggs, and nuts, this location has sliders, chicken salad, veggie wraps, and even a self serve gelato machine! Well done United
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't expect to see a United Club at SkyHarbor and was pleasantly surprised. This space feels very new. The bartenders are very friendly. There's soft drinks around the corner from the buffet area, which features both hot and cold selections. The chicken salad sliders are particularly good. The buffet is excellent across the board. I even treated myself to a brownie. My only concern with the location is that it seemed to be very popular on a Friday afternoon and the space was quite crowded. At one point it felt like standing room only. Again, I'm delighted this Club is at PHX and it's one of the better United Clubs I've been in.

Yelp
A pretty solid United club in a smaller airport. This lounge feels pretty new. The staff here are helpful and welcoming as you'd expect. Has all the standard amenities bar, good food selection, and ample seating with good WiFi and plugs/outlets. The only thing I'd knock them for is the small bathrooms. Only 3 stalls for the entire place was poorly planned as there is usually a line waiting. I'm a fan of the big single bathrooms but only 3 for a lounge is not enough. The food selection was good with hot and cold options. Plenty of coffee options with their illy machine and freestyle Coke machine. Bar selection solid and best of all they have a custom gelato machine. Might be a limited time thing but it was a treat! So nice
google avatar

Yelp
I had a nice experience visiting this United Club. It is rather small but very clean and modern with comfortable seating options. They also have a small bar with nice beverage selections. I would reckon this venue.
google avatar

HoyMay P.

Yelp
Smaller scale United Club. An early morning visit before heading out. Nice choices of breakfast food. Yogurt, fresh fruits, cereals, breads, muffins, oatmeal, meats cheeses, juices, teas and coffee.
google avatar

Ashton K.

Yelp
After a cancelled flight, we found ourselves in the United Lounge for multiple hours. It proved to be a good spot for a quick nap but lacked in anything substantial to eat. The bathrooms were fairly unkept & the line outside was always long even though there were 3 of them. Better than sitting at the gate, but would love to see better food options for folks, especially those with dietary restrictions.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Nice club, bar, food offerings, coke soda fountain. Great staff. This is a nice little club location.
google avatar

Greg T.

Yelp
Fairly nice and relatively new United club. Plenty of seating was available in various configurations if you wanted to relax or work. Buffet offering was very good and had a nice mix of hot and cold options. Staff was very friendly which makes this a welcome addition to PHX.
google avatar

Alyssa K.

Yelp
Terrific service from buffet to bar. Very friendlypeople and a good amount of seating. Unfortunately restrooms are gender neutral with only a toilet and no urinal which means peepee on the seat and floor. Not a fan.
google avatar

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Gave me a headache it was so noisy! And I don't even get headaches. But the bathroom doors have no buffering for sound so there was a constant slamming. Over and over and over. Such poor thought went into the design to not consider that initially -- or fix it now! Plus the seating design is all wrong. It's phoenix. Skip the window facing seats and have more lounge area where seats don't only face each other. Maybe it's the headache talking but I am feeling very underwhelmed.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a super quick visit to the United Club before my Friday afternoon flight and it was ideal. It was a holiday weekend, so perhaps more crowded than usual, but that's to be expected. Food was delightful, both the hot and cold options. Vegetarian selections! And a pound cake and pie dessert station with berry compote. Sunny space. Easy check in. Great visit.
google avatar

Jean Y.

Yelp
It was crowded when we walked in the lounge. Somehow we found 3 seats together, the 4 th seat person nicely moved to back row, luckily 4 of us sat together. That was first good thing happened in the lounge. Next good thing was extremely good food there! Spanish rice. Pull pork, roots veges and tortilla was super! Ham and cheese and salami were also tasty. Salad section was also good. Cheese cake and little chocolate things were unbelievable! Usual suspects from coffee machine were good. Super nice lounge!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good club compared to others! Probably would give 3.5 but rounding up because the staff was just amazing Location: There weren't many signs to get to it, but once we were given directions we found it ! It's down terminal E by E3 Entry: Entry was smooth which was nice compared to other clubs. I feel like they usually get backed up. They also had some hard candies to the Entry and the staff welcoming you was very positive and upbeat Food: I've come to expect pretty poor food selection at a lot of clubs/lounges lately but they had some great options ! Everything was fresh and looked good. It did need to be refilled but was still better than other places There was a coffee machine too and a soda machine down the hallway l. Seating: There was bar seating at the bar and by the windows. Plus plenty of table seating with benches and chairs. Restrooms: The restrooms were unisex and there were only 3 available. It's a small club so I doubt there js ever too long of a wait. Plus there's one maternity/changing room. Overall it was a good club - I'd probably rate it lower but everyone was so friendly and it really added to the experience.

Yelp
If you use a club pass here, you'll come away feeling like you wasted it. This lounge is much smaller than expected (when you get to the far end, you'll think "where's the other two-thirds of it?") and quite crowded. The positive review from a certain well-known travel writer (won't name him and give him more clicks) was highly inaccurate. Typically, those people are given free goodies in exchange for writing glowing reviews - much better to pay attention to reviews from real, average people on Yelp. Anyway, back to the Phoenix United Club, the food selection was limited and mediocre, and while the single bathrooms are an interesting concept, there are too few of them and there was often a line. Only one bartender working - not a good idea for such a crowded lounge. Positives...well, the carrot cake was good. And...this was only the second worst airline lounge I've ever visited (the worst was the Alaska Airlines lounge in Portland). When you find yourself looking at your watch and wondering if it's time for your flight yet while you're in the lounge...the lounge has failed.
google avatar

Timir D.

Yelp
Small lounge Food included German chocolate cake, cookies, petit fours, salad, a charcuterie board with not much, fajitas, rice, and others. The fajitas were a mind blower, super spicy and delicious. I'm surprised others can eat this food. I went back for seconds.

Anonymous A.

Yelp
Refuses to let anyone in with one time pass even though the place is half empty. One time pass holders are treated as second class by this United Lounge. Terrible customer service and horrible way to treat their customers.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
Brand new little lounge at he Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. It was fairly quiet when we visited and early enough in the morning. The chairs are not super comfortable, but I wasn't staying long. The food was the normal morning fair. It seems like a very nice addition to this airport.
google avatar

Miranda N.

Yelp
It's a nice area to hang out and grab some bites before your flight, but it can get pretty busy and the food bar doesn't have many options. They had sliders, wraps, and tortellini as the main meal/snacks. I also wouldn't recommend sitting near the bathrooms as the doors automatically slam shut and it's rather loud. When I went, they didn't have their liquor license yet (they opened very recently), which is quite the shame. Staff were very nice and attentive.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Very nice, clean and good food. Definitely a smaller lounge and not the most elaborate but does the trick and it is clean. Staff was very hardworking and nice.
google avatar

Jianmng S.

Yelp
This is the worst United club I have ever been to! Restrooms: The ridiculous "unisex" restrooms make the club an embarrassment, very noisy and very inconvenient! When you need to use the bathroom you have to check every door for vacancy and the doors are so loud and banging constantly that you never have a quiet break. Guest behavior and careless club staff: kids running around loudly, kicking "football", some guests even laying on couches indecently, club staff didn't seem to care at all! Terrible experience at this United Club!
google avatar

Ann F.

Yelp
Lounge was clean and staff were friendly. However the food was seriously lacking. Coffee ran out, scrambled eggs were bad, nothing I tried tasted good, in fact. Lots of seating and friendly bartender.

Bruce F.

Yelp
United changed the rules for club entry. Even if you're a club member you have to be flying on a United flight to get access. If you're a club member you should get access thats what the $500 fee is for. When we asked if we could get in, got a snarky look from the woman at the desk who brushed off. This is last year I'll be a member. Too many other clubs
