Despite it being a rainy weekend with no opportunity to do outdoor activities, it turned out to be lots of fun stopping by the Farmers' Market to sample some of the unique foods, and to buy the ones we liked most. Our first thing to try was the blueberry lemonade near the entrance. My hubby and I both agreed that blending the tartness of the lemonade with the sweetness from the blueberries seemed to result in a smooth and refreshing drink. Best of all, it was only $3 for a good size cup. We then hit the cheese counter, and tasted a few of the different kinds of goat cheese, including the habanero, garlic and thyme, and black pepper and basil. We ended up purchasing the habanero type for just $4.75, simply because we felt that the slow build-up at the back of our mouths was a real selling point. There was plenty of spice, without it being unbearably hot! Our next stop was at the honey stand, and although it's true there were many different flavors of the product, it came down to us specifically wanting the lavender infused one.... It's our very favorite kind! We usually add it to our cheese board when entertaining. However, unfortunately, they didn't have the lavender in stock, so we just decided to pass on the honey, and keep looking for other interesting goodies. Our last purchase was at the dried meats counter, where we sampled a couple of things, such as the spicy chorizo, as well as the hot pepperoni with cheese. Both were full of flavor, but since they had sold out of the chorizo sometime before we arrived at 1, we just bought the large pepperoni for $18, and added in a big package of the blueberry pork sticks for $15, which wasn't available to try, but still sounded worth getting because of its unusual combination of flavors. Since picking it up, we have munched on a few of them, and are pretty happy we took the chance. We can definitely taste the blending of sweet and salty, the sweetness from the blueberries, with the saltiness from the pork.... A nice mixture! We have not yet opened the pepperoni. We look forward to visiting Maine again, and will make sure to hit the farmers' market when there.
