Unity Books on Willis Street is truly a Wellington gem with a long and proud history of serving the community. It’s been around for decades, and you can feel that legacy the moment you walk in. The shop is spacious, well-organized, and offers a huge variety of books across all genres from the latest releases and local authors to timeless classics. The location is super convenient right in the heart of the city, and the separate sections make browsing easy and enjoyable. The staff are always warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about books, which makes the whole experience even better. Unity Books isn’t just a store it feels like part of Wellington’s culture. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

Well let me tell you this beautiful Bookshop is always on my to do list when I travel to Wellington New Zealand. This shop is inspiring, refreshing and excite the positive energy around you. If you feel down, this is the place to go. Not only is the range of books incredibly, there are beautiful posters, and gifts available. On my one visit again I was once again astounded to find classical musicians from New Zealand Symphony Orchestra playing delightful music in the shop. Plus there were chairs available to sit on. Very thoughtful, thank you Unitu Books. I also placed two online gift vouchers for family and that also proved successful. The range of books covers many topics and offers creativity, peace, joy and harmony. We looked at the kids range and it was fantastic, so we bought wonderful books. I also looked at the classics, as well as the Sci Fi books, nature, photography books and hobbies as well as poetry. You are able to find a gift for a few dollars to expensive, a perfect shop with helpful, professional staff. I regard this shopvas a must do for tourists and local Kiwis. Enjoy.

Love unity books! It was my first time going in to the shop today and I had this voucher from 16.08.23! I needed to spend this voucher asap. I found so many good books for my 3yr old, I ended up using the voucher and paid a little money towards a second! The atmosphere was vibrant. The customer service was genuine, caring and lovely! I asked for help on two books and a kind person helped me working at the shop! I really enjoyed being apart of it in that moment! I look forward to coming back, sit read observe my surroundings with people coming in and out in the coming weeks, months and years. Thank you for the experience ❤️

I like bookstores, I like record stores. They might be seen as borderline anachronisms in this smug end of the 1st quarter of the 21st century. Unity is great, peopled with knowledgeable staff with a passion for what they do, and a really well curated and varied selection of stock given the size of the store and the size of Wellington.

Listen, I love the selection at unity books however today a worker created a very uncomfortable environment for me that left me shaking and upset. Today I came to the store looking for a book on Malcom X but ofc I had to look at the nonfiction NZ books. This was when a worker starts to follow me around and when I say follow, I mean follow. She would stand uncomfortably close to me and constantly stared at me. I tried to make conversation about a book but it ended in two sentences. If I wanted to look at a book I would have to wait for her to take a step away from me. She wasn’t shelving or checking the books, she was quite literally just staring at me. I walk to the back of the store because I’m uncomfortable but was still looking for the Malcom x autobiography. I look up from the books to find her still staring at me. I move places and look up from the books, she’s still staring at me. At this point I was shaking. Let it be known, I’m a high school student — what on earth do I do in this situation???? I grab a book that looked interesting, go to the cashier — now the worker is standing right next to me, still staring at me. I buy the book because I felt I had to from fear of the presumption I was stealing???? And therefore didn’t want to leave empty handed. I walk out with a disgusting feeling and very upset. Was it because I’m Māori? I wore a kuffiyeh? I’m a high school student, I shouldn’t have to put up with this blatant profiling. If you’re gonna do this, make it less obvious. I won’t be shopping here again which is unfortunate for me as the books are great but I will not let myself go through something dehumanising like that again. Didn’t even have the Malcom x book stocked so left feeling horrible and without the book I came for. What a lose lose situation for me.

Such a beautiful bookstore. You can find most of book here. I love how I can find so many books that normally I have to shipped internationally from bookdepository. They sure have collections that other bookstore doesn’t have. Store is very clean and tidy too. If I stay for too long, I might give up on my bank Account. Lol

Yelp
The only decent bookshop in Wellington. The staff are super informative and helpful for finding great books in genres I don't usually buy for myself. Will order speciality books for you and even ebooks available.
