Unity Books on Willis Street is truly a Wellington gem with a long and proud history of serving the community. It’s been around for decades, and you can feel that legacy the moment you walk in. The shop is spacious, well-organized, and offers a huge variety of books across all genres from the latest releases and local authors to timeless classics. The location is super convenient right in the heart of the city, and the separate sections make browsing easy and enjoyable. The staff are always warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about books, which makes the whole experience even better. Unity Books isn’t just a store it feels like part of Wellington’s culture. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

Had a fabulous experience shopping at Unity Books in Willis Street. A totally lovely girl whose name I did not get (but she was tall and had beautiful dramatic red hair, and wore big glasses) went out of her way to track down a book I had on order and deal with my enquiry. She could not have been more helpful. She was charming, knowledgeable and made me feel like a valued customer. Congratulations Unity Books on your ability to staff your store with perfect people.

I came in last Thursday and had a lovely experience, so I’m leaving my first ever google review. The range of pukapuka in the Aotearoa section is impressive and was thoughtfully explained to me by an awesome young woman. She seemed to be in charge of the sonic waves blessing everyone’s taringa in the shop. I didn’t expect to hear my fav Rihanna song Skin in that setting or the most niche early 2000s group from Porirua being played. Iykyk. What taste! I enjoyed the ambience and the hundreds of pāua shells dangling from the ceiling made me feel at home. Kia ora, I will be back 💜

I was visiting Wellington recently and happened upon Unity Books. I had thought quality bookstores had all but ceased to exist. So I was delighted to find this book selling gem. I was so excited I bought seven books. Only to belatedly remember I had one small travel bag with me in Wellington. Some creative packing later I managed to fit them all in (somehow) and managed to get them all on the plane by checking my bag in instead of carrying it on. I love this bookshop and recommend it highly to anyone who loves books as much as I do.

What’s going on at Unity Books? It’s such a great Wellington staple but twice now I’ve been in, only to be treated as though my presence is an annoyance. OK I went to the wrong desk to collect my prepaid book. I’m young (uni) & brown go figure. I’m done with this store now

Well let me tell you this beautiful Bookshop is always on my to do list when I travel to Wellington New Zealand. This shop is inspiring, refreshing and excite the positive energy around you. If you feel down, this is the place to go. Not only is the range of books incredibly, there are beautiful posters, and gifts available. On my one visit again I was once again astounded to find classical musicians from New Zealand Symphony Orchestra playing delightful music in the shop. Plus there were chairs available to sit on. Very thoughtful, thank you Unitu Books. I also placed two online gift vouchers for family and that also proved successful. The range of books covers many topics and offers creativity, peace, joy and harmony. We looked at the kids range and it was fantastic, so we bought wonderful books. I also looked at the classics, as well as the Sci Fi books, nature, photography books and hobbies as well as poetry. You are able to find a gift for a few dollars to expensive, a perfect shop with helpful, professional staff. I regard this shopvas a must do for tourists and local Kiwis. Enjoy.

Yelp
The only decent bookshop in Wellington. The staff are super informative and helpful for finding great books in genres I don't usually buy for myself. Will order speciality books for you and even ebooks available.
