This is a must visit in Évora. Can be easily missed but it is totally worth it. The old areas, rooms, corridors and the intersecting history are amazing. It is a hidden gem and I strongly recommend having a guide to get the most of your visit. Allow at least 30 mins to explore.

This is the second oldest University in Portugal. Founded by the Jesuits it is steeped in History and it still is going today. The class rooms are covered in beautiful tiles depicting the most varied science, literary and social themes. The layout is also beautiful, it has an immense atrium and it is laid out across several levels.

If it were just another palace or convent I would rate it a 4 star but being an university it's a 5 star in tradition, atmosphere and magnificent panels of storied tiles, as they are called (depicting scenes of common or historical events). The main yard is outstanding.

The azulejos tiles are spectacular. The whole place is a work of art. It's definitely worth the small price of admission. Make sure to allow enough time to absorb it all before they close at 5:00 p.m.

Nice and traditional buildings. The tiles are beautiful and found almost everywhere.

We were scammed, had to pay 3 euros per person to enter the building, and then it turned out all the classrooms were occupied by courses or exams, so we couldn't see anything... Felt awkward walking around, as if we were not supposed to be there. No guidance at all.

I went on Saturday, so no classes, but most classrooms we're open. The library was open too, it is not easy to find. It is upstairs. The university was recommended as a highlight by a guide.

i am a student who wants to visit the university and I was being asked for 3 euros and the person was laughing at me with her colleagues when I was still in front of the door Isn’t it stupid ? And unfriendly!
