UNLV College of Education

This school really has incompetent counselors and poor management. If your child has a chance to go to school here, don't let them. My son almost did not graduate with the education degree he spent four years trying to get because of the incompetent advisors that were giving him incorrect direction and course navigation. He could not get certified because he was not placed in student teaching due to the eneptness of his advisor. Fortunately, he was able to do a workaround on his own, graduated, and is teaching in another state.

It's very very good college

My son's first year at UNLV has been an amazing experience. Timmy was the top 9% of California and like many he wanted to original go to Cal like his grandfather and even though he won 3 grants he did not make it in with the other 82,000 applicants. We visited other universities in Cali but it was just either to high paced or too low pace. He received an invitation for UNLV and we knew after visiting the school it was a perfect fit. Even though he would be leaving Cali he was still close enough to fly in. Dr. Hanson and his staff are wonderful, he has been of great support as well as a mentor to Timmy. Currently Timmy is home for the summer and will be starting his Sophomore year in the winter. I never worried about him being at UNLV for they have an awesome police force and actually considering it is Las Vegas very little crime. The worst that happened this year a few bikes were stolen and a few cars got broken into. Thank you again to Mrs. Kate Snow in admissions, she was totally professional and provided excellent communication so our transition from Cali to UNLV was smooth. If you are looking for a school that is diverse, offers opportunity, great price and most of all the PEOPLE OF LAS VEGAS are so nice where everyone is very friendly from the stores to the restaurants.

My kid is a senior, graduating locally with an advanced honors diploma, just shy of the top 10% GPA of the graduating class, but didn't get in. Which is understandable, and I don't mind that. What I did mind was that the friendly face they put on in the orientation disappears quickly and in any further dealings with them they are so rude and dismissive. If looking down your nose on the "out" crowd is part of the honors college experience, it's probably not such a good thing after all and I'm glad we avoided it.

Let's face it...it's UNLV. Nothing against UNLV, but it just isn't a high level university. It's good for Nevada, because its the highest level of education available to the people of this state. It just isnt at that elite level. I have been to multiple colleges across the country (due to work), and they have some holes that need to be worked out.

I went to school at UNLV and had an overall good experience, however it was nothing like the incredible tight knit community that is the UNLV Honors College. Damn it I want a do over! The faculty are top notch - you will not find a more passionate, driven, and enthusiastic team of professionals to support you in your college goals and aspirations. The really care - genuinely. Not only will you have an amazing educational experience, but you also get an amazing community experience. The Honors college is currently training together to do a Tough Mudder...I mean can I get a Hell Ya!? The list of activities, mixers, study week snack gatherings goes on and on. Not to mention when you are an honors student you also get your own study lounge in the Lied Library (arguably one of the coolest buildings/environments on campus.) If you are looking for an absolutely inedible academic experience, faculty that are brilliant and passionate, and a genuine community of amazingly smart and talented individuals than look no further - The UNLV Honors College is the place for you.
