The best hotel I ever stay. I have stayed many hotels in the world, Unzen Kanko hotel is the best in terms of the service, food, building, surroundings.||Because of historic rain, the train was cancelled, so we had to take a taxi from Nagasaki station. We arrived the hotel around the noon, as soon as the taxi open the door, the staff helped us to carry the bags, apologized for the bad weather, (you don't have to,it is not your fault!) Check-in was smooth and dinner time and breakfast were arranged at the time of check-in. The staff explained the hotels equipment, including the reading room, the movie room, and the game room. all the furniture, staircase, hall-room are well-maintained although the hotel is more than 100 year-old.||We just relaxed in the room, open the window, listened birds sound, wind blowing, water sound. it was such valuable time.||The hot spring was excellent. I think i took hot springs 4 times in my one-night stay. ||i woke up early and decided to go to run. It was 5:30 in the morning and the staff was cleaning brass bar. i bet you need make that effort to maintain this old as beautiful as new.||I choose Japanese style dinner. With excellent hotel labeled Sake, every bit of dinner was tasty and high quality presentation. I don't know if you can get the same level of Japanese dinner somewhere else.||With excellent service from the staff, beautiful hotel, quiet surrounding, i spent happy two days. You don't have to go out, just stay in the hotel makes you really happy.

We had a little bit of a surprise when checking in, the hotel manager insisting he confirm my nationality despite my partner (Japanese) having booked the room - never had to do that before as a group and it was a little odd. That aside, it was a nice visit - the outdoor bath is very good, perfect temperate and relaxing. The staff were great generally and very helpful - it's a western style onsen, so beds instead of futons, western style breakfasts etc. Enjoyable for the bar and pool room too

The building is a stunning example of Japanese-European style which reflects the history of Nagasaki. There is no lift, so it is not recommended for elderly or disabled guests. The room was tiny but pleasantly furnished. ||||Throughout the building, the old Bar, Library, Billiard Room and even the Smoking Room are of some interest. However, we were dismayed to find that the billiard room was only available at an extra cost.||||The onsen baths are good but unremarkable. We had booked a Japanese dinner but were not overly impressed by the atmosphere at the Japanese restaurant. It seems that the Western-style dining room is one of the main attractions here.||||The staff were courteous though somewhat lacking warmth. They struggled with English, rather embarrassingly for an establishment of this price category. If you have Japanese family or friends it's advisable to visit with them.

Stayed here in Janaury and I enjoyed every minute of the stay. The original 1935 architecture has been well maintained and preserved. Once you step into the main lobby, you feel as if you are in a time machine spinning back to the pre-war days. The main dining room is grandeur and spacious, surrounded by Belgium tapestries. Chef's 6-course dinner was modern and delicious. The bar, library and billiard room look stately and classic, This hotel opened its doors in 1935, a few years before WWII, during the days when the expats from Shanghai's foreign territories were visiting Mr. Unzen for their summer retreat. Eighty years later, this is still a fabulous place to stay.

We didn't stay at Unzen Kanko Hotel (but we will, next time), we just went for afternoon tea ... The service was very polite and the staff didn't seem to mind we weren't staying. The menu was in English and Japanese and the staff were very helpful, in explaining everything. The baked gorgonzola cheesecake was their specialty and was excellent. It was unique with a thick, rich taste of grgonzola. The pudding in the cream caramel ala mode was rich and creamy and the fruit was fresh. The souffle took 15 minutes to make but, was absolutely sublime.||Unfortunately, the Golden Assam tea wasn't brewed for long enough so it was weak. ||It would be lovely to sit out on the terrace in summer ...||Next time, we plan to stay ...

We stayed one night. This is an old style European hotel which is unusual in Japan. The hotel is pleasant, with a nostalgia of days gone by, with a billiard room and an old library. The room is of good size, with decent toiletries. ||The French dinner was good, though it cannot be called truly French. This lack of identity is reflected in many things in the hotel - is it east or west?||Overall, an interesting hotel with perhaps a need for warmer service.

this hotel is prestigious "the japanese classic hotel" it takes 1h30m from nagasaki airport with car and there is free limousine bus that you need to offer to hotel if you want to use. we use here to cerebrate our first wedding anniversary and wife's birthday. the hotel restaurant is pleasant and dinner is all wonderful. the staff treat us with attentive service. we were very satisfied.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night in December.||Getting up to the hotel is about a 30~40 min ride up the mountain from the city but well worth the ride.||We drove here by a rented car but there seems to be a public bus you can take from the city.||At night, it can get pretty dark so I recommend to drive up while the sun is out.||||The room was a Royal Room with L’Occitane amenities!! and the bathtub was so classic and lovely.||The food was delicious and I could tell that each ingredient was carefully chosen by the chef.||They also have a "onsen"(hot public bath) which is a must enjoy if you are in Unzen.||The hotel staff told me that the soap they have at the onsen is Bvlgari! smelled really nice.||||I would definitely come back here for a longer stay if I come to Nagasaki area again.
