This is one of the shining stars for me in Tokyo. Of all the sushi places I have been to in Japan, this is the place I recommend most to friends and family. I prefer coming here over a sushi omakase place, even though they can't directly be compared apples to apples. Located about five to seven minutes away from Shinjuku station, Standing Sushi Bar is somewhere I must go every time I am in Tokyo. Inside, there are about ten spaces where you stand and the sushi chef is in front of you. The wait depends on when you go, but people come and go very quickly, especially since service is so quick.
The chefs are friendly, service is quick, menu is comprehensive and English friendly. The best part of this place is that you can choose what you want and they will make it for you. If you love salmon, you can order as many salmon as you're willing to pay for, if you love yellowtail, same thing. The prices are more than reasonable, and the quality you get really makes this place shine. Personally, I loved the different cuts of tuna and salmon, specifically the nama-salmon, as well as the unagi, which I normally don't like.
Standing Sushi Bar is a must visit when you come to Tokyo, I will always make sure to include it as part of my itinerary and if I don't know what to eat, this place is always a great option. I have stuffed myself here and paid much less than any omakase place, while also having come in for a snack of a few pieces.
