Uogashi Nihon-Ichi

This is my third time visiting this standing sushi bar, and it continues to deliver every time. It’s exactly what you’d expect: you stand, order, and eat right at the bar, which only fits about 10 people. What keeps me coming back on every trip to Tokyo is the friendly service and the incredible quality of the sushi, especially for the price. There’s almost always a line, but it moves efficiently, and before you know it, you’re at the counter ordering directly from the sushi chefs using a laminated photo menu. The menu includes miso soup, pre-set combinations, and à la carte sushi options. Complimentary green tea is also provided. The sashimi is simply delicious—fresh, juicy, and perfectly prepared. If you don’t need anything fancy and just want excellent sushi at a great value, this is absolutely the place to go.

First time at a standing sushi restaurant, and I went alone. You order directly from the chefs while standing around the counter. As a shy person, I worried about ordering more than once, but the staff and chefs were incredibly friendly—any eye contact turned into a nice chat, making me feel totally at ease. Both chefs spoke good English. The fish was super fresh, and the unagi was a standout—cooked just right, it was soft, juicy, and had a lovely grilled scent that hit just right. I got there at 9 and had zero wait time. If you’re staying in the area, definitely stop by!

Discovered via Instagram, affordable sushi with a reputation for quality. Stopped by after seeing a recommendation online, and I’m glad I did. The wait time was minimal, and service was prompt. The menu had a wide variety of options, almost too many! Thankfully, they offered curated selections to help narrow things down. The sushi itself was enjoyable. While I wouldn’t call it top-tier, it was fresh and satisfying for the price point. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for decent sushi without breaking the bank. Definitely worth a visit.

Wow, wow, wow! I’d come here to eat sushi every day if I could. I went twice while staying in Tokyo. There was no wait either time. You walk up to the sushi bar and are handed a menu. Complimentary tea is brought out. Then you can make your order to the sushi chef. You can order as many as you want at once. There are pre-selected sets you can order or a la carte. I decided to order a few at a time and then continue to add more orders as I ate. The sushi was so fresh and affordable, much better tasting than one of the omekase meals I had which was much more expensive. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for high-quality, affordable sushi in Tokyo and don’t need a fancy dining experience

First time at a standing sushi bar and I had a great experience. Amazing service and quality especially for the price you pay! Friendly staff and they accept many forms of payment (I paid with Mastercard). I didn’t speak Japanese but it was easy to order. Just point at what you want on the menu, and when you’re done you just say “Okaikei” (which is on a laminated sheet on the table). I didn’t have to wait at all for lunch time and the chefs make the sushi so quickly right in front of you. I ordered the special and an uni. You get a complimentary green tea as well. Will definitely go back here!!

Even though it says Standing Bar you can sit. The sushi here is incredible considering the price. The chef makes it in front of you fresh. I went there for dinner and I had to stay in the line for a few minutes. I got the 6 piece set that came with miso soup. The soup was also delicious. They ask for your preference on wasabi and ginger before preparing. Also, they save complementary green tea in the beginning of the meal. The service is good too. FYI. you can get chopsticks from the long wooden boxes kept on the table. I would definitely go there again.

Standing sushi was great very fresh and absolutely yummy.It feels like an uncle is making you a meal and welcoming you into his place. Such a warm, home-style experience. Highly recommend.

Excellent spot! Fresh fish and very talented sushi Chef. Tried every fish on the menu and the top 3 are Fatty Tuna, Crab and Seared fatty Tuna. One of the must try spots and great vibes as well.

Another awesome sushi spot with amazingly fresh sushi. When I was in Japan, all the sushi experiences were amazing! It's fresh and delicious for an extremely affordable price! The service is always amazing at any restaurant in Japan. Don't ask for the English menu though! Prices will differ! Use translate on your phone.

The hype was real. Stand-up sushi bar. Fresh from the chef. Select and choose what you want from the menu by telling the chef (or simply pointing to it on the menu). And you eat it as he makes it. Simple, easy, quick, fresh, and delicious. All for such an affordable price point. No complaints, I'd come here every day if I lived in Tokyo. Thanks for the awesome suchi and service!

The most amazing sushi was served while I stood watching the magic of the chefs prepare the food, delicious nigiri that melted in the mouth and so well presented on the banana leaf. This standing sushi bar offers a large variety of sushi options and ended up being one of my favorite spots while in Tokyo during the fall. I would definitely recommend !

This place has limited seating. We waited till a spot open. It's standing only . They have English Menu if you can't speak Japanese. You just point to the picture. We got several items of sushi which range from ¥300-¥450 depending on the item. Overall, the quality for the money was nice. Service was decent

Cheap and affordable good quality sushi. Fast service and it's considered a standing sushi bar but they allow you to sit if you'd like. Would definitely come back in the future

A delicious standing sushi bar that's quick and friendly. Almost everything we got was great quality and worth the price. We came in the morning when they just opened and there was plenty of space. They put some leaves down for you as your plate and serve you pieces. Seems fine but the counters/corners weren't the cleanest so don't let your food roll off lol Food: 9/10 Service: 8/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Value: 7/10

You can't go wrong with a standing sushi spot in Shinjuku! Even though my feet were tired from walking, this place was totally worth it. There was a little line, but it moved quickly. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and I couldn't believe the uni was under $4! Everything was super affordable. It's a pretty small spot inside, but that just adds to the cozy vibe. Perfect for a quick, tasty bite!

Standing sushi was delectable. Everything was delicious. Listen when the chef tells you no sauce. Such an amazing experience and even though it's standing only, it's worth it. Not too loud and I was able to have a conversation with my friend next to me would definitely recommend.

This was my first time at a standing sushi bar and it was a solid experience! We got in line maybe around 8:30 and waited about 30 minutes. Once inside, everyone stands around the chef counter. After you decide what you want to order, you just let the chef know - be prepared to wait your turn inbetween orders as each chef is serving several people at a time. We tried several types of fish and enjoyed all of them! Between the raw vs. seared, I personally preferred the raw as you can taste more of the fish itself. At the end of our meal, we only ended up paying about $30 per person - SUCH GOOD VALUE!!

Probably one of the fastest sushi eating experiences I've had in a good way. It's a standing sushi spot and I went crazy ordering all these different types of sushi. My favorite were the broiled ones with a little bit of mayo on top. Just super delicious and fresh. And the price can't be beat for the quality and speed at which you're eating sushi. The chef was super nice to me and an absolute pro. Watching him work was a treat in itself. And the vibe is fast pace. You're in and out, and I was on the go so it was perfect.

The best sushi in Shinjuku, super fresh, best staff, it was a little hard to understand the language but google translate helped and they were very patient with it. I tired raw shrimp for the first time and it was amazing. Super fresh, everything was outstanding. Place was nice too, with very traditional decor.

This is one of the shining stars for me in Tokyo. Of all the sushi places I have been to in Japan, this is the place I recommend most to friends and family. I prefer coming here over a sushi omakase place, even though they can't directly be compared apples to apples. Located about five to seven minutes away from Shinjuku station, Standing Sushi Bar is somewhere I must go every time I am in Tokyo. Inside, there are about ten spaces where you stand and the sushi chef is in front of you. The wait depends on when you go, but people come and go very quickly, especially since service is so quick. The chefs are friendly, service is quick, menu is comprehensive and English friendly. The best part of this place is that you can choose what you want and they will make it for you. If you love salmon, you can order as many salmon as you're willing to pay for, if you love yellowtail, same thing. The prices are more than reasonable, and the quality you get really makes this place shine. Personally, I loved the different cuts of tuna and salmon, specifically the nama-salmon, as well as the unagi, which I normally don't like. Standing Sushi Bar is a must visit when you come to Tokyo, I will always make sure to include it as part of my itinerary and if I don't know what to eat, this place is always a great option. I have stuffed myself here and paid much less than any omakase place, while also having come in for a snack of a few pieces.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Japan! The fish is very high quality and at such affordable prices. I ate between 14-16 pieces for less than $20! That includes multiple pieces of otoro, salmon belly, and crab meat. They serve complimentary hot green tea for each person. If you get one of their pre-fixed sets then your meal will be even cheaper. It's quick service, fresh, and delicious. The line moves fast so do yourself a favor and eat here!

Stand in front of sushi chef and order your heart desire! The food was amazing, the chef and hostess were very friendly and accommodating. Pricing for the pieces were pretty amazing. Definitely gonna keep coming back here!

Put this place on my list of places to visit after seeing it on YouTube. Came here on a weekday afternoon & waited 10 minutes to be seated. Because it's standing sushi - the customers have their meal quickly (most within 20 minutes!) There's pre-set combos that you can order but also you can pick individual pieces. Beer comes in chilled glasses & the menu is available in both English and Japanese and foreigner friendly!! My partner and I are the type of travelers that love to experience as many places as possible so this sushi spot was perfect in terms of timing. We came here 2x during our stay in Shinjuku (which is rare for us because we make it a point to go to each location 1x so we can experience as many places as possible!). Would highly recommend adding this place to your itinerary if you're traveling in Shinjuku!

Incredibly fun atmosphere with the most engaging sushi chefs! The tiny standing bar was a fun atmosphere and the fish quality was very fresh. This was some of the better sushi we had on our trip and was a blast!

Was a bit skeptical of a stand up sushi bar, but had a great experience. A must visit if you are in Shinjuku! Stand in front of the sushi chef and order away! There are about 9 spots inside to stand. Waited about five mins in line during lunchtime. Every piece of sushi was fresh and melted in my mouth. I ordered their special set because I couldn't make up my mind on which pieces to choose. The chef did add a bit more wasabi towards the end and I had to take some off, but other than that service was quick.

It was really quick and the sushi chef spoke a little English but I can get by now with reading the menu (albeit a little slow) Ordered the most popular set 人気一番 for 980 yen inclusive tax. It comes with a bowl of miso soup which was super yummy! The sushi were served on banana leaves I think. Thoughtful of the environment and they also don't use disposable chopsticks. Big plus! I had to order the toro and uni too. Total meal was less than $17! So satisfying although it's a bit cold today but everyday can really be sushi day in Tokyo! おいしかった！

Came around 2pm weekday and wait was about 15min. Service was super quick once you get though because the chefs just make them on the spot as you order. All of the sushi was good quality and bomb especially any of the seared items!

The sushi was super well prepared, service was really fast as there are only about 12 standing spots for customers, with 2 chefs constantly churning out sushi, and it was so well priced. They're also super foreigner friendly, so our poor attempts at asking for things in broken Japanese and in English were met warmly and professionally! Format / mini-guide for first-timers: Wait in line outside, get called in by the host and you'll be assigned to a spot to stand. They'll ask if you want water or tea. Review the menu and order a set or just order things a la carte as you go. When you order, just get the chef's attention and ask for the type of sushi you want. Specify if you [don't]/want wasabi. When you're done, just ask for the check via "o kaikei kudasai!" Pay on your way out at the cash register. I dream about the melt-in-your-mouth sushi and overall amazing experience we had here, and can't wait to go back!!

Walked in for Saturday lunch and was seated right away. I got one of the combo menu items and really enjoyed every piece. The fish melts in your mouth it's very fresh. They were accomodating when I wanted to switch out one of the pieces of the combo I couldn't eat. My friend ordered by the piece and also really enjoyed the sushi. The soup and tea were also delicious. Our meals were very reasonably priced and quality was great.

I have been coming here for many years so a great review for this place is way over due. For anyone who has not been to a standing sushi before, here's the drill : you just wait in line outside, wait to be called in by the host and they will direct you to a spot to stand. You can review the menu and order a set or j a la carte as you please. You can get the chef's attention and order directly with him and ask for the type of sushi you want. You usually get the order very fast as the chef is super quick and they make them on the spot .The fish is very fresh and melts in your mouth. Most items are about 200 yen to 300 yen, with some dishes could cost 400 to 500 yen . We ordered so many items and only paid about 4500 yen for two people. Less than $38 USD . Great price for amazing sushi quality. The staff is incrediblle friendly and helpful. We will always be coming here whenever we are in the area.

I asked one of the workers if I could order takeout, since it was only a limited amount of people available to eat inside standing (about 8-10 people). The service took around 1hour but I ordered about 50 pieces. The food was well made and tasted great.

Amazing sushi that literally will melt in your mouth. Best I've ever had in my entire life and I'm really a California roll kinda guy. This place opened my eyes to what real sushi should be. I was so in awe that I even forgot to take photos of the food and place. I will definitely be heading back to this place when I am back in Japan. Note that you may want to get there a little earlier before you're hungry since there is limited space and you will need to stand while eating. But the service was impeccable and I loved the vibe along with the actual food. I highly recommend this spot. I promise to update the review with photos in the future.

Best sushi I've ever had. Fatty tuna with a dab of wasabi on the bottom and I could eat them all day. It was an all-around fantastic experience. Service was efficient, helpful and quick.

OBSESSED! Such good quality sushi for an affordable price! It's a standing sushi bar that was just a few minutes walking distance from my hotel, so I stopped by for a quick lunch. I got the "botan" set for 1680 yen: - chutoro x2 - nodoguro - ikura - ebi - sawara - tamago - hotate - aji And a couple add-ons: - binchou maguro - negitoro maki x2 I tried the matcha sour, but it was alas, too sour for me.. Every bite was so fresh, so tasty! It's amazing how you can get top-quality sushi for such a low price in Japan! Service here is sooo quick too! I was in and out within 30 minutes.

Both my wife and I agreed these were the best sushi we had in our lifes. We took a set of 12 and then added couple more sushi on top - all the seafood was so fresh and delicious. I'm a big fan of salmon raw / ikura and it was amazing too. I just wish to go eat there right now. Definitely a must visit if you're in this part of town.

The food was good and staff was also friendly. I LOVED IT . The sushi was amazing. from rice to meat it was fantastic. The lively atmosphere of the restaurant made me able to enjoy my sushi wholeheartedly.

Came here for dinner on our first night in Japan with high expectations! Hubby and I were super excited to have the real deal here in Japan. We ordered almost everything on the menu, and it's safe to say that we are disappointed at the quality of the fish. The uni did not taste fresh, it was extremely fishy, the seaweed was soggy, and the rice was cold. Most of the servers did not speak English, made it really hard to order other things besides sushi... Keep in mind, this is a stand up sushi place. So if you are tired and are looking for some where relaxing after a long day to enjoy your food, this isn't your place.

We were surprised with how few yelp reviews we saw for Japanese restaurants. Maybe that's intentional or perhaps it's not a part of their culture to praise or complain like Americans tend to like to do, so it made it difficult trying to figure out where to eat. Well, we stumbled upon this little gem and fell in love. The sushi was amazing and the price can't be beat. It's standing room only at the counter which fits about 10 people. You can order a set menu and add as you go. Between my son, husband and I, we probably had more than 50 pieces of sushi and every piece was better than the last. Super fresh, super tasty! Fast service too! No one speaks English but you can just point to the photo and the chef makes it. We will definitely return the next time we are in Japan!

It's a small place that can only accommodate 8 or 9 guests at a time that serves delicious sushi where you order straight from the sushi chef. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is well worth the wait.

I've always heard the best sushi in Tokyo is the "local place" and this fits that definition. Really fresh sushi and lots of interesting varieties. Typical to Tokyo, it's a stand up restaurant so you will be in and out pretty quickly. My personal favorites were the eel and Chūtoro (medium fatty tuna) but everything is good. Definitely worth a visit!

For what it was it was good. We got one of their set menus and the sushi was decent. Better than most sushi places in the states but not amazing. But for the price it was good. I probably would order things a la carte next time and pick and choose things instead of the set. My favorite was their uni! The uni in Tokyo is just amazing! Service great!

I'm going to echo what everyone else has said about this place! Inexpensive, delicious, fast, and friendly service. LOCATION: It's a bit hard to find but I walked around the street by holding up the phone with the picture of the entrance lol That's what helped me find it. It's standing room only which is something I noticed that was very common in Japan - these food establishments mean business: eat and go! FOOD: It's not a 5-star restaurant but it's also not store-bought sushi, they're making it right in front of you. I was bummed out that they were out of many of their popular options (we got there as they were about to close). I highly recommend trying their fresh nigiri as opposed to the fire roasted ones - I wasn't a fan. SERVICE: Friendly sushi chef that actually speaks English!! Stop on by! You won't be disappointed.
