Up The Creek Backpacker's Lodge

My experience at Up the Creek was beyond expectations. Martin and his staff were exceptional hosts. I was immediately made to feel welcome and the dorms and facilities are kept clean. Martin clearly does this for the love of it and it shows in the funny notes around the house to the hand crafted wood sauna out back. Would fully recommend to anyone looking for a place to rest while adventuring through the sunshine coast.

I volunteered here for 4 weeks this summer. Martin has made such a comfy lovely place to stay. He is a wealth of knowledge of the local area and a delight to chat with. I had a really enjoyable time volunteering and especially enjoyed lazing in the hammocks, and evening walks to the beach. Up The Creek is close to the beach and other walking trails. It's a quiet location and was a lovely place to rest after a big road trip. Martin was fair with the labour for accommodation, and focused on my strengths for additional projects outside of the regular house keeping. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a place to stay, and those wanting to volunteer too.

Lovely cozy hostel with plenty of shared chilling spaces. We stayed 2 nights in the Cherry cabin, great for having a little more privacy than the usual hostel experience. Very accessible by bus, and the free loaner bikes (really sweet vintage MTBs) make getting down into the village and beach a breeze. Martin and staff are great. Definitely wish we could have stayed longer

I had the great pleasure of staying at Up The Creek Backpackers Lodge recently, and it was an incredible experience! This cozy and clean lodge is surrounded by beautiful nature, with plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. The lodge offers excellent services, with comfy and welcoming bedding, lovely outdoor hammocks perfect for lazy afternoons of conversation, and a cozy fireplace where guests can gather in the evenings. Martin, the owner, was incredibly welcoming, as were the other guests, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere. There were also plenty of guidebooks and recommendations available to help make every day as adventurous as possible. It’s the perfect place to explore the Sunshine Coast, meet wonderful people, and relax in peaceful surroundings. I loved my stay and will definitely return for the summertime!

We stayed with two families for two nights during our cycle trip. The rooms are cosy, the beds are really good. Our kids loved the play area and living. Martin was very welcoming and helped us with some technical problems. Warmly recommended!

We had a great stay and found the shared dorm room cozy and comfortable. The owners greeted us on our arrival and were warm and friendly. The other guests were considerate and respectful. The whole place feels calm and well managed. The kitchen is clean and we appreciated the complimentary coffee and tea. I was a little unsure of staying in a coed dorm with my teenage daughter but it was absolutely fine and we had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend!

🌟 5/5 - The Best Hostel Experience in BC! 🌟 I spent 3 amazing days at Up The Creek Backpacker's Lodge in Roberts Creek, and I can honestly say it was one of the best hostel experiences I’ve ever had. The location is perfect—quiet, peaceful, and surrounded by nature, but still close to everything you need. The accommodation is super clean, cozy, and well-organized. The common areas are welcoming, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook. The prices are also very fair, especially for the quality you get! What made this place truly special for me was the incredible support for bikers—there’s space for bikes, helpful info about local trails, and the owner is super friendly and always ready to help with tips or anything else you need. If you're traveling on the Sunshine Coast, don’t miss this place. Up The Creek feels like home. Thank you for the wonderful stay—I’ll definitely be back!

Had a great time staying there, the lodge is super cozy, super clean, and has lots of guides and information. Such a dream place to stay for a weekend! Martin, the owner, is a great guy, read somewhere, he’s a crazy bikepacker. As a fellow bikepacker, I was inspired, def don’t get shy chatting with the guy. For me, I would come back again. On another note, I came with a friend, it seems my friend was traumatized that he even asked me, “Are we allowed to use the washroom?” It was my friend’s first time in a hostel, without my knowledge, he moved to sleep on the couch in the middle of the night. Any traveller would know that sleeping in common area is a no-go, but he didn’t know. Martin charged at me at first (when I was having breakfast), I was appalled. Then after I denied his allegations, I remember vaguely he said something like “if you ever come back…” to my friend. Anyways, this review isn’t meant to badmouth Martin (he’s truly a nice guy), just a friendly warning for fellow travellers who’re not accustomed yet to the norms. If I were to guess, Martin was just prob used to dealing with difficult people since it’s a hostel after all.
