Upendo House is a beautiful and thoughtfully designed place to stay. The rooms are quite compact compared to other hotels, but the décor is lovely, the bed is very comfortable, and the shower was excellent. There isn’t a view from the room, but honestly, that didn’t matter at all. The restaurant and rooftop bar more than make up for it. The views from the rooftop are absolutely stunning and it’s the perfect spot to watch the sunset. The pool is refreshing and the whole rooftop feels incredibly tranquil. Breakfast was delicious, and the attention to detail throughout the restaurant and the entire property was immaculate. The bar and restaurant staff were friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better.

I had a very pleasant stay. The hotel is small, with only a few rooms, which makes it calm and peaceful. It is perfectly located in the heart of Stone Town, right next to Forodhani Gardens Night Market, a popular open-air street food market. Parking is about a 3-minute walk away, and although you need to carry your luggage a short distance, the hotel staff and driver are always ready to assist. I stayed in a room with a bathtub. While the rooms aren’t very large, they are comfortable and nicely decorated. Breakfast is served à la carte at the well-known The 5th Restaurant and is very good. I also tried lunch there and enjoyed it. The rooftop is a highlight — with a swimming pool, sea views, a bar, and the perfect spot to watch the sunset, which I enjoyed on my last day. The staff are friendly, attentive, and the hotel is spotless. Walking around Stone Town from here is very easy. The only downside is the proximity to a mosque — the 5 a.m. call to prayer is very noticeable in the room. There is also a small boutique offering attractive, high-quality items.

My stay was pleasant. ||The hotel has only a few rooms, which makes it very calm and quiet.|| It is located in a very central area, right next to Forodhani Gardens Night Market, a famous open-air street food market in Stone Town.||Parking is about a 3-minute walk from the hotel, so you need to carry your luggage on foot, but the driver or hotel staff are always happy to help.||I stayed in the room with a bathtub. The rooms are not very large, but they are comfortable and nicely decorated. ||Breakfast is à la carte, well served and good, at the well-known The 5th Restaurant. I also had lunch there and the food was good.||At the end of the day, you can enjoy the sunset from the rooftop, which has a swimming pool, sea views and a bar — I made good use of it on my last day. ||The staff are friendly, helpful and everything was clean. ||You can easily walk around the entire Stone Town area.||The main downside is being next to a mosque — the call to prayer at 5 a.m. feels like it is inside the room. ||There is also a small boutique with lovely, good-quality items.

Rooms are clean, the coffee and tea station is excellent, and the cold water with reusable bottles is a thoughtful touch. I also love the turndown service — it’s such a warm, elegant detail. The staff are genuinely kind, and the food is great. A few improvements would make it even better: • Add a TV for some nighttime entertainment. • Balcony rooms aren’t worth the upgrade since the view is not nice at all. • The shower needs a seal to stop water from spilling. • Beds need a mattress topper — simple fix, major comfort. It wasn’t comfortable at all. • Laundry can take 24+ hours, which is tough for short trips. • Massages could be priced better and promoted more. - also add some room service menu. - the butler service can be slow via Whatsapp. Noise: There is noticeable noise from the café/bar outside. It would help if Upendo could collaborate with them to lower the music or set a cutoff time around 10:30 PM. This small step would make nights much more comfortable. Overall, Upendo has a beautiful concept and great service. With a few tweaks, it could easily become one of Stone Town’s top boutique hotels.

Amazing service and trustworthy staff! I stayed in this hotel in Zanzibar and had a wonderful experience. On my last day, the post office was already closed and my flight was very early the next morning. The hotel staff offered to help me send my postcards to Germany. They told me to hand them to the security team, took 4 USD for stamps, and promised to take care of everything. At first I hoped for the best – and now, 4 weeks later, all postcards arrived safely! This really touched me. It shows that this hotel has honest, kind people working there. Thank you for going the extra mile! I can truly recommend this hotel – great service, great location, and great humans. Wishing you all the best! There are still good people in this world.

I had a very bad experience at this hotel. First of all, the food took an extremely long time to be served, which was very frustrating. There was no proper communication or apology from the staff about the delay.||The behavior of the waitresses was also very uncomfortable. Instead of being polite and welcoming, they kept staring at me while I was eating, which made me feel uneasy and pressured.||Management really needs to improve the service and customer experience. Also, I strongly suggest hiring younger, friendlier staff with a pleasant attitude and good appearance, because waitstaff should make guests feel comfortable, not intimidated.||I will not be returning unless major improvements are made.

I visited on my birthday at Upendo House on 23rd August 2025, and it was such a beautiful experience! The mocktail I had was very tasty, perfectly mixed with all the ingredients. The waiter, Edwin, was so welcoming and made me feel special on my day. And the view, wow… you can see Stone Town so clearly.Overall, my experience was really good, and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to celebrate or just relax. 🎉🌸

I went for the rooftop for drinks/cocktails. There is a minimum spend of 30k per person which is fine, but quite a lot for a place that turned out to be empty. The view is great but the staff were unfriendly and the lack of classic cocktails was a real disappointment.
