The service is top-notch, and the price for the pastry is affordable. Not sure if we ordered the wrong item, not as good as what we remembered.

They jalapeño corn bread and brownie are delish! Found the cinnamon bun a bit dry for my liking. Busy spot with a variety of breads and baked goods. They have a daily happy hour from 2-5 where you get a small drink and cookie for $5. Outdoor seating under a yawning and a few tables inside. Definitely a local homey vibe to the space.

This place is a hidden gem! I love going there- which I do many weekends! The bakery food is great, has an extensive selection, at extremely reasonable prices, and the staff is so nice! It's a casual welcoming-for-all atmosphere that I appreciate. We need more places like Uprising in all communities!

Google
Had the berry rose bliss limited edition hot chocolate. It is a dark chocolate with rose hip syrup and blackberries with a mini chocolate peanut butter tart. I accidently got 2 tarts but they were cute and delicious. I liked the flavors. The blackberry and rose hip flavor were very subtle and at the end I couldn't taste the flavors just chocolate. The description also said giant marshmallows but I did not see any. Friendly staff. The other baked goods and breads that they sell look good. A cozy place with cozy seating.

Google
Nice cozy little bakery and cafe to hit up in Vancouver. Ordered a few items. My favourites were the blueberry cinnamon bun. It was delightful and very tasty and buttery. Loved it. Also the coffees here are great. Brought home some loafs of bread too, my favourite so far has been the Finnish style and sourdough.

Google
Honestly it’s my favourite bakery in town. Their Garlic Parmesan sourdough is extremely tasty and I love their Cobb salad and their savoury danishes. Their sweet treats never fail me so far. While most staff are pretty friendly and kind, I would like to point out a few areas of improvement. There are times when I have to walk out without getting my breakfast because the staff were being too chatty and relax with the customers in the front, regardless of the line getting longer. Especially in the morning, most ppl just want to get their breakfast and go quickly to work. I usually get my sourdough sliced up, however the lady this morning gave me a pretty sour face when I asked this favor that other team members gladly have done for me on the regular. I get it, it’s not advisable but it’s my preference. A smile goes a long way.

Second time here and still super disappointed. First time was a couple years ago: Bought a coffee and it was probably the worst tasting, burnt, and stale coffee I’ve ever had. Second time was today, stayed away from the coffee and ordered the Spicy Buffalo Chicken wrap for lunch. Was asked if I wanted the wrap heated up, I said yes and noticed they proceeded to microwave it. Didn’t realize it was not being heated up by a panini press. Thought that was odd but looked past that. As for the wrap itself, there is no Spicy Buffalo flavoring at all to the chicken and the wrap was practically inedible as every other bite contained either a small bone or cartilage. A choking hazard, very disgusting and extremely disappointing. Shame that the staff is friendly and the location is great from where I live, but I will not be going back due to the awful coffee and wrap. I have not tried their pastries and bread but after two terrible experiences I’m not wasting money on this place.

Always friendly service and great selection. A true neighborhood staple. Be sure to try some the new menu items as they are always adding something tasty.

Yelp
I have been coming to Uprising for almost 30 years to buy an assortment of breads and goodies but one recommendation is the Bacon and Egg Sammy. Made with a cheddar biscuit, lovely cheese, egg and bacon center and seasoned with some special sauce I am unfamiliar with. Prices have been creeping up here but the sammy at $7.50. Not too bad. Sadly other items are pricier but not overboard. Other recommendations are sausage rolls and ham and cheese croissants. Service is decent. Ambience is storefront with seating. Reccomended.

Yelp
This place is becoming a Vancouver icon with its fodd and services. Last few visits were a bit hit and miss but mostly good. HIT London Fog! Smooth silky tea latte that's served at the right temp with great foam. The scone is great with a tea or coffee. Great c9nsistent service. MISS Cinnamon Bun. Somewhat on the dry side. The side is crunchy but in a hard way. Taste is good. Ic8ng a tad of the sweet side.

Yelp
As I'm thinking about writing this review, I realized that I've never actually purchased a loaf of Bread here. So bizarre, anyway, I guess this means I have a mission next time I am there. The staff have always been patient and helpful, even when the winding line of visceral temptation seems to be never ending. I'm in lust with the Vegetarian Breakfast sandwich, it's served on a cheese biscuit/scone thing that is absolutely perfect. A Savoury topped square of the Focaccia bread is also a must, ask for it to be gently warmed up, say the word gently to avoid blazing results. Shortbread (in whatever form you desire) is another family favourite. Outside seating is plentiful and always has a good vibe. Wait, you know what....I've never had a Coffee here either...
google avatar

Yelp
the sandwiches are mediocre and the service is bad. nothing like having your change tossed at you after an awkward encounter with a half awake rude server with a dirty mustache. there's better places out there. this one just screams mount pleasant rudeness both in quality and service. they should just change their name to upheaval bakery.

Yelp
Delicious. We are staying in the neighbourhood and so happy we discovered this place at the beginning of our stay. We have been for coffee and assorted baked goods every day. No seating inside but there are some tables out side and a couple of benches on the Venables side. The benches are absolutely sun soaked and nice and warm even in the winter with snow. Staff is friendly. Coffee is good. Baking is wonderful - we have tried the hot cross buns, the jalapeno cheddar scone, the cottage cheese muffin, the blueberry scone, the baked potato scone... and I am not sure what else. We buy two and share them. All have been absolutely delicious. When we are in town in this neighbourhood, it will be our go to place. Love it

Yelp
These are the best Jamaican beef patties I've ever tried (in Vancouver or Toronto)... the flaky crust and tasty filling stands out from the factory-made fare which is so common
google avatar

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood around lunch break so decided to stop in here for a scone. Scone was alright but felt I made better ones at home Service is meh. I would recommend some of the other bakeries along the Drive instead.

Yelp
I finally found my favourite local bread. It's the delicious buttermilk honey bread. It's perfect for French toast, but also great for a good panini. They also serve things other than amazing bread options, such as sandwiches and pastries. I had a london fog and it might be the best one ever. The london fog from other cafes tend to be super sweet, but this one is perfect. And finally, wonderful customer service. Super helpful and kind. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
A welcoming family-friendly bakery with delicious treats and great service. Highly recommended, especially their ginger snap cookies.

Yelp
Had their 'Hot Cross Buns" from a Whole Foods while on a visit to Vancouver a few years back. yum. Whole wheat and just enough sweetness from the dried fruit and honey. So good. Likely an Easter offering. Also grabbed a box of carob chip grainy bars which edified body and soul to the degree a second box was procured and brought back home to Tacoma. All around goodness. Back in Vancouver again, 3 years later, I am prompted by that memory and seek out the original bakery......my woooord are their goods tasty. I've since had a caramel-pecan shortbread bar (drools), the flakey squishy ham and cheddar croissant, and a lemon cranberry bar. mmmmm, they do it all right. The Latte's get a 3/5 which isn't bad for me, just not stand on your toes with stars crowning the very air above me kind of good. This is a bakery, which happens to do coffee, thus I shan't knock off stars for that most minor of complaints. The people are nice here. They work hard, do their job, smile if you do etc. The question to ponder is...is it wise for me to partake in a ham and cheese croissant for breakfast for the next 5 days, just because I can and want to....I'll think on that one in a few days ;-) Note to self and others, the grassy boulevards are laden with the feces of inconsiderate dog owners, so check your foot path for poo camouflaged amongst fall leaves, for irresponsible dog owners creepeth about.."they poop, you scoop" is unknown in these parts.

Yelp
Every city has some bakery somewhere that began as a cooperatively owned anti-capitalistic protest group that just happened to bake its own bread. Most of them, like Uprising, have since then sold their shares to a majority share holder, and quite rightly begun earning a small profit making coffee, scones and 4 different kinds of Croissants for the neighborhood parents. Many people frequent the bakery because of its long history in the neighborhood, and the fact that it has always been locally owned. This is also demonstrated by the playful and borderline hippy décor, with cartoonish paintings and wooden table tops. Despite the questionable ketchup and mustard paint on the walls, the feel is very comfortable, proud and inviting. The coffee is also to its credit, better than most and cheap enough to let you leave a tip in archaic toaster oven tip jar. Flower pots hanging by the front door, an outdoor veranda, and a good assortment of baked treats, cheaper by the dozen.

Yelp
Let's get to the main problem with this local bakery. The people both staff and patrons are pretentious self centred alt/emo/liberal hipsters. I ordered a coffee and a raspberry rhubarb pastry which was ok but would have been better if heated up. The girl who served me could care less about helping me out and just wanted to go on her break. She serves me a cold slice of the rhubarb pastry without heating it up and then she tries to short change me for $7. Her other coworkers seem to have the same "me" attitude and be in their own little world. The patrons aren't any better with their head so far up where the sun don't shine. Glad I don't live in the area and have to see this on a daily basis.

Yelp
Uprising Breads Bakery is probably best known for it's breads since they are sold at grocery stores throughout Vancouver. In addition to their yummy breads, the shop also has a bunch of baked goods. Uprising Breads' pecan caramel squares are obscenely good. Seriously. Amazing. They also got pies in a variety of sizes. You could get a tiny pumpkin pie for $1. They also sell granola (750g for $6.95). You can order sandwiches, vegetarian soup, pizza, salads, and espresso drinks at the counter and they also sell whole beans. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Uprising Breads has a "Donation at Close" program where they donate their left over breads to local groups involved with fighting poverty, like the Vancouver Food Bank. If your group is interested in being a recipient see their website for more information.

Yelp
Meh. Just bought what should be a fresh loaf of bread as it's a bakery after all. Nope its 3 day old 'fresh' bread. Stale. Waste of my money and time. Save your money and buy bread somewhere else.

Yelp
Excelente bread and coffee. If you are in a hurry I recommend the breakfast burrito. My favourite pastry is the buttermilk scone.

Yelp
I was buying tires for my mom's car and I had nothing to do so I walked over to Uprising Bakery for a coffee and a muffin. I have been to Uprising before but that was many years ago. I'm usually not around this area but since I was I dropped in. The shop is still as I remember it. Bustling busy and lots of freshly baked goodies to temp the palette! I didn't want to eat too much so I settled on a coffee and their egg nog white chocolate muffin. I know this bakery is health conscious so they don't use a lot of oil and preservatives. Normally, I would say the muffin was dry and hard but I know better! When washed down with black coffee the muffin was perfect! This place is pretty cool for you health conscious people out there. Give it a try if you're in the area!

Yelp
I use to love Uprising, their Ginger Snaps 15 years ago were the best, it had a bit of a kick from the fresh ginger, a bit crispy & chewy but the recipe has changed over the years. It was still an okay cookie a few years ago but now it's just not worth it anymore. The cookies are now flat as a pancake, lacks the complexity it once had before and is a bit airy. A shame since I would like to keep supporting a long standing local business. I'll give the cookies another shot in a year or two if you're still around, I hope you guys go back to the OG recipe!

Yelp
I like to support businesses that not only provide quality products, reflected in the price, but also good, friendly service. I experienced very rude service that makes me not want to spend my money there. I wanted to like the baked goods, but the assorted muffins and bread I purchased were dry and had very little taste. Perhaps they were stale. Anyway I wont be coming back here. I wanted to love this place but the service and quality of baked goods is really not worth coming back.
google avatar

Alexandra S.

Yelp
Love this place! It's my go to for lunch when I'm working. Its just down the street! Fresh everything! My only complaint is that the staff can be extremely rude and off putting, it's a total "better than you" attitude EVERYTIME I go there. Like all the customers are an annoyance or dumb.... everytime! Besides the staff, I love this place and it's definitely the food that keeps me coming back.

Yelp
I had the hunger for something sweetalicious when the BF suggested this place. I had the chocolate chunk cookie and the gingersnap cookie and both were fabu! They were sweet and soft and super yummy.... I am drooling a little right now just thinking about them. They also have a vegan chocolate cookie which I have tried before and is actually really good. The only thing that makes me sad about this place is that it is so far away from my home. But this probably makes my waistline and pocketbook happy. Well, that and the service was pretty mediocre, how can these people not love their jobs when they are serving up such sweetness and super cute little Halloween cookies and coffee? Perhaps they had stomach aches from overindulging in the sugar? Too many visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads? Too many cavities? We will never know....
google avatar

Carly B.

Yelp
I love this place! Seriously tasty treats. I have an unhealthy obsession with the beef Jamaican Patties. And their blue dot specials are an awesome way to try out all their different flavoured baked goods for cheap. I recently discovered that they have a refill price if you bring your cup back up. Score! My only teensy tiny complaint is that the staff is too slow and laid back. Its really cute that they remember the regulars (I'm one of them) and have chats with you but sometimes a girl is on a tight schedule and has a bus to catch! But I'll still give em 5 stars.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Frequent coffee buyer card that rewards me for drinking all the tasty coffee I can handle. Soy milk to accompany said coffee that actually gets to hang out on the counter with all the "normal" milks free of charge. THIS MAKES ME WEIRDLY HAPPY. Get the vegan chocolate chunk cookie. Service is usually fairly slow and unapologetic about it. It's like it's always Sunday morning in there...... which is totally cool with me, I think we could all use a little more Sunday morning in our lives. Sit on the patio, it's lovely.
google avatar

Dani B.

Yelp
Yum yum and tripple yum! There is so much too choose from you may have a hard time picking just a couple things. I love waking up early and riding my bike down here. There's always a slew of locals posted all around this place and for good reason. They make an amazing assortment of breads, baked goods and they even have frozen stuff too! You can go here and grab breakfast, lunch and dinner, how many bakeries can do that?
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Spent the day walking the drive and then grabbed some coffee and dessert from this local bakery. They have great baked goods. Had the rhubarb pie, sweet yet tart.
google avatar

Roanna Z.

Yelp
Uprising is a Vancouver icon with over thirty years in business. They have developed a reputation for good quality baked goods that can be found in retail stores throughout the Vancouver area and beyond. The cafe and bakery retail outlet on Venables St. is so very cute with indoor and outdoor seating, however they do not offer any non gluten alternative breads at this time or even any N.G. snacks. I think that they are missing a market by not offering some alternative. There are so many wonderful non gluten mixed Flours available now, that I think this is an oversight on their behalf. Also, I have found the customer service to be less than friendly. They DO have Soy for Coffee drinks so, that's a small concession and I will keep checking back about the breads.
google avatar

Elisabeth F.

Yelp
This bakery is right across from my house, so I love going there because it's easy. More than that, though, it's also a frikkin wonderful business. Their high quality selections of pastries and breads, as well as their amazing coffee and great lunch specials makes it a real stand out. I especially love their cinnamon buns and their scones. The bread is also amazing; I love their cinnamon raisin and their whole wheat loves, which freeze really well too. I always have at least two different loaves in my freezer. The customer service there is also always excellent!
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Baked goods would get at least 4 starts from me, but their savoury food items are so bland. I had Mexi Veggie wrap (kudos for vegeterian food), veggie chilli and happy planet happy smoothie which was the best part of the meal. The wrap was reheated in the microwave (dear lord, why???!!) and the chilli was room temperature with a cold pocket (here's a tip if you insist on using a microwave, heat the soup for few minutes, stir it and then blast it for another minute or so). Service was so indifferent I actually regretting tipping them. Next time I will stick to cherry scones.
google avatar

Yelp
The closest supermarket to my home orders baked breads from Uprising Bakery. I've tried most of the grainy goods, but my favorite remains the hedgehog rolls. I've got many memories of car trips through the U.K. where bread roll sandwiches were the main picnic item. And when you combine a very British word like "hedgehog" with the form of a roll, I get unstoppable nostalgia. What is a hedgehog roll? It's a whole-wheat roll coated in all kinds of seeds and grains: flax, sunflower, oats, barley, wheat, rye, millet, and buckwheat. It has the same dapple-ish outside that a hedgehog has when it's scared and rolled up into a ball. My only star-diminishing point is I'm pretty sure the bread bags are not recyclable. And when Dempster's is sitting right next to Uprising in a recyclable bag, I suddenly have to weigh my options.

Yelp
I have just stuffed my belly full of delicious, delicious baked goods from Uprising Breads, and gosh darn it, I feel good about it. I was experiencing an uber hankering for sweets, so I dragged the SO for a walk along the Drive to seek out some worthy pastries. Thankfully, I remembered Uprising Breads and they were still open. Upon entering, we both started drooling over the items in the glass pastry case. In the end, we bought a piece of blueberry cheesecake, a gingersnap cookie and an oatmeal cookie -a holy trifecta of awesomeness. (Yes, we were feeling mighty gluttonous) The verdict? Although the oatmeal cookie was just "meh", the gingersnap was chewy and oh-so good. The cheesecake: to die for. It blew our minds. In fact, if a) we hadn't just bought the last one, and b) they were still open, I would run back down there to buy another right now. With Uprising Breads dangerously close, I had better keep up with my running, lest I become morbidly obese. And I would -I have no willpower when it comes to baking that is THIS good.

Jamie M.

Yelp
To all of the reviews stating that there is bad customer service, maybe take a look at your own behaviour before slandering the staff at this bakery. I've had tremendous experiences with multiple employees. Just because the staff is all fairly young doesn't mean you don't initiate the respect. I'm horrified at the interaction between the person in front of me and the cashier. He was yelling at the cashier for some small inconvenience and you would've thought their ages were swapped. Regardless of what I witnessed, I was met with kind eyes, some small chit chat and the sandwich/soup combo that I ordered. The carrot ginger soup is SO GOOD. The prices at this bakery are amazing. Quality and fresh goods at a fair price is just unbeatable when you compare them to the surrounding cafes/bakeries. The location is perfect and the interior is large and spaced out so it's perfect for taking precautions for covid. They do it right at uprising breads.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
Yumm! Baked goods! This places makes the BEST gingersnap/ginger bread cookies i've ever had! They are big, chewy, and real tasting! They have a wide selection of baked goods from carrot cake and banana bread to pastries.

Yelp
Nice drop by spot before or after downtown, without the corporate feel of a starbucks. personally i enjoy the quietness between lunch and dinner, can work in the back, & good corner view too. Plenty of parking on the side streets. Order their hot chocolate lots ;)
google avatar

Tabi N.

Yelp
The baked goods are so good. I love the different breads they make there. I don't think the service is that great, I find most staff or the same staff members every time I go there to be quite rude and "too good" or something. I thought it was kind of expensive and not really worth it to eat there, depending on what you got. I mean its a really nice bakery, the atmosphere isn't super friendly, the goods are good, but you could probably find something just as good somewhere else with a nicer atmosphere.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
I saw a scone that made me happy- blueberry and white chocolate. I wish I had my camera, so you can see how perfect they looked. Unfortunately I only had cash, and enough on hand for my brownie mission. But I will be back soon for one of those scones. Uprising is a great community bakery. Though they're known for their breads, I always partake in the sweets kept behind the glass display. But they also offer some lunch options and many cold beverages. Another thing to try- the cranberry lemon bars. Happiness is a small brown bag of goodies from Uprising.

Davina D.

Yelp
Best "Mince Pies" in Vancouver. Hands down. Haven't found a lot places like this, highly recommend.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
When dad came here back in the day when they first opened up to cater the hippies and the health nuts, this was great bread and great food. For awhile we stopped coming becuase it seemed that their reasonable prices went through the roof and it no longer catered to those who first shopped here for bread. Over the years, we've come and gone as customers, but more recently it's been refound. Resurfaced back into our family and we are enjoying their whole grains and heavy breads like it used to be. There are other items served now, but it's mainly that stuff that brings us back to our hippie days and tie dye shirts. Uprising is a staple of this community and that community is growing and supporting something that is iconic in this neighbourhood. Great stuff.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Sandwich Brownie and Coffee I had for lunch here were good. As store they post lunch specials on there menu but unless you see yourself staff do offer the special at the till. A similar tactic that fast food chains use where they have sales on the outside windows but not posted at the till were you order.

Cindy K.

Yelp
My favourite local bakery! Their cheese croissants are to die for, and pretty reasonably priced for being under $2.50. Great place to come grab a coffee and a breakfast treat. Tons of options and friendly customer service. Lots of places to sit outside and enjoy the sun while you sip on your coffee.
google avatar

Goldie W.

Yelp
I love their blueberry cinnamon roll. They are generous with the icing. My friend loves the rhubarb square, again, the size is big. The walnut danish is a must try, too. I always bought them home and reheat the pastries in an oven, an excellent treats for afternoon tea time.
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
I love this place! I don't see how anyone could give it less than four stars!!! The chewy ginger cookies are what first drew me here - they are always fresh and taste like my grandma's! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the Honey Buttermilk bread. I am sure it's not as healthy as their alternatives, but it's so darn tasty!!!!
google avatar

Renee P.

Yelp
Uprising is good for bread, but some of their baked goods are not the best. It's a nice spot to sit on a weekend morning, but more to read the paper outside then to actually work on your laptop. They serve Saltspring Island Coffee which is excellent. Baked goods are wholesome and some (like the chocolate spelt muffins) are great. Sandwiches are good - try the turkey pesto baguette, or the avocado hummus. I am also a fan of their 'blue dot specials.' Service is usually fast and friendly. They have lovely vegan chocolate bites that are nice to pick up for potlucks or small office parties. Cornbread and ginger loaf are two other favorites. The thing is, though, that I am a savory baked-good junkie, and the croissants and scones don't quite cut it for me. This is a favorite neighborhood business that I love to support, but I'm sticking with the breads and occasional sweet treat, rather than savory baked goods from now on.
google avatar

Timmy T.

Yelp
Irish soda bread, enough said They used to sell their irish soda bread at whole foods, but now you can only find it here It's delicious..a slice with butter is a good accompaniment to a cup of tea Seriously good bread..a taste of home

Christina P.

Yelp
There is so much about this place that I love including their wonderful salads, samosas, breads and neighbourhood vibe. Weirdly though, I find that some of their cookies fall short of my expectations and their pie crust is just awful - doughy not flakey. For a bakery, I'd have thought pie crust would be easily nailed. Still, big props to them for being a great little neighbourhood lunch place. Keep up the great work but consider reworking your pie crust recipe.

Roger W.

Yelp
I've been going to this bakery periodically and getting large orders of baked items as a treat for the office staff. As with most of the reviews I love the baked goods and so do my staff...it's the service that kills me. Right down to the woman who is the manager, unfriendly , unhelpful, generally an unhappy person, never even a "thank you" outta her. I would go someplace else in a heart beat but the pastries are worth the torture of having to deal with her. The 3 star rating was pushing it...the cinnamon buns made it a 3 not a 2! Every time I go I always come out feeling like I never want to go back.. Anyone have any other great pastry options in Vancouver?!?! In any case the food is great but they need a change of guard behind the counter in my opinion ...
google avatar

J N.

Yelp
I like their croissants, breakfast bars, scones and granola. They are very tasty. My favorites are the cheese croissants and apple strudel croissants. My husband loves the granola there. My complaint is every time I go there, the cashier can never get the order correctly. They always get the wrong pastries or miscount the order. Almost every time, I have to repeat the order at least three times. Only the owner got the order correctly and the rest of them are like half asleep or not too bright to get the order correctly.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Love this place. The owner needs to stop licking his fingers when he grabs a bag (eww!). But otherwise I absolutely love uprising breads!
google avatar

Shila B.

Yelp
I walked by here on the way to grab sushi. I saw the word "bread" and just had to walk in. The word "bread" is a dangerous word for someone who is gluten free, however, my culinary curiosity got the best of me. I wasn't expecting any gluten free options, however, what I did see was a nice, clean, presentable and approachable bakery. It's more of a coffee shop than a bakery as the selection was decent. In comparison to space ratio vs. available baked goods, there wasn't much to take home for me. If you don't care about being gluten free, there are a lot of quality products at reasonable prices including rum bread for mom. My mom could use some rum bread....perhaps she'd relax more if she had a loaf or two. Happy Mother's Day.

Yelp
Uprising is the one of the best bakeries in town... and a great stop for a great, healthy quick sandwich, coffee or juice if you/re on the run.. highly recommended...

Yelp
Their thai chicken wrap gave me food poisoning. Will never visit again.
