Uptown Ob/Gyn of New York

I have been in the care of Uptown OBGYN for almost a decade, and I can say without hesitation that this practice is truly exceptional. Over the years, they have walked alongside me through every stage of my reproductive health journey — from routine preventive screenings, to the heartbreak of a miscarriage, to delivering and celebrating the birth of both of my beautiful daughters. Through it all, the team has consistently provided compassionate, thoughtful care that is rooted in evidence-based medicine. I’ve always felt heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. In a world where it can be hard to find medical care that balances professionalism with empathy, Uptown OBGYN is a shining example of what healthcare should be. They have been a constant source of strength, support, and excellent care, and I am endlessly grateful for them.

I have been with this practice for almost 15 years, and had both my children with Dr. Cha and Dr. Jackson. Even after moving an hour away, I have still stayed with the practice (and had my second son during this time). I love them for my generally care, and they were exceptional through both pregnancies. The doctors here beautifully walk the line between scientific and holistic care; They were supportive and amenable to my use of a doula, my birth preferences, and my desire for a birth without medication. Even when I had a preexisting condition for my second child, they worked with me to plan how to safely bring my child to 40 weeks, and my use of accupuncture to induce labor (it worked!). If you work with them, they will work with you while always advocating for your safety. I adore these women, and am so grateful for their guidance!

I am sorry to be writing a poor review but think it’s important for other women preparing for pregnancy and birth to be aware. I had a positive experience for years at this practice for gynecological services. However I ended up switching away from this practice just a few weeks before delivering my first baby due to several negative experiences. I had a few small complications that I felt were treated as inconveniences for the practice rather than with empathy. I was also under unnecessary pressure to be induced early. I think this practice errs on the side of more interventions, possibly because they deliver at Mt. Sinai East which is not known to be baby friendly. I absolutely loved one of the nurses and one of the doctors at this practice, but I did not feel comfortable with the others in the end. Do not make my mistake and wait until the last minute to switch if you end up feeling similarly!

I have been a patient at this facility for two years. I went to request a refill with my pharmacy because my initial refill request got rejected. I reached out to Dr. Walia’s team to explain the situation and was told I needed a maintenance appointment to be scheduled to get a refill and this is a yearly need. Totally fine. When I contacted the team to schedule that appointment and then had a need to reschedule the appointment for January and asked in the interim can I have a prescription sent. They said they couldn’t process it since they need to see me. So from December to the end of January I would not have availability to my hormonal birth control pills. I raised issue that this impacts my health and current birth control schedule. I found the situation to be negative and unsettling. I didn’t have the proper information which I expressed, I didn’t get a reminder prior to CVS rejecting a refill request that I had to see them every year, and the only way I got that information was by me reaching out to them to find out what was going on. The receptionist Jazz passed along my feedback to Dr. Walia and she then called me. From the minute the phone call started she was extremely defensive and accusatory. She raised her voice and spoke over me when I allowed her to speak, and removed me from her practice because during the conversation I referred to her as Jenn and not Dr. Walia which she said is the upmost disrespect and why I can no longer be at her practice. I was then accused of ignoring reminder messages when I said and have proof of not receiving them. No one from the team called to follow up during the two years after my initial appointment when we could’ve scheduled the maintenance appointment and avoided this whole issue. Her and her team dropping the ball and me shining light on the oversight led to her disrespectful, condescending and aggressive phone call. This is a very important medication for my health and calling someone Jenn as opposed to Dr in a line of conversation and being called disrespectful, being spoken to in an elevated voice, being spoken over and then removed from the practice because I politely and calmly said that I didn’t have this information and this is what happened is shocking from a medical facility. This is something that should be on everyones radar that as Dr. Walia stated, she has removed me from her practice because as she says, that is her right as a physician due to my lack of respect by not calling her doctor at one point in our phone call. The truth of the matter is, her and the team as a whole dropped the ball. The refills were going through and this information wasn’t given at any point until I reached out. Mistakes happen. But her lack of accountability and aggression on simple feedback for what happened is unacceptable. I used to like Dr. Walia, but this behavior is something that not only is bad bedside manner, but just bad customer service so I’m glad I’m not a part of her practice. I caution if you are going to go to her practice that if you do not call her Dr. Walia she will label you disrespectful. And if you provide feedback for what happened during your situation without raising your voice and just having a conversation she will continue to speak over you and say you are disrespectful. The person being disrespectful is Dr. Walia. A simple conversation should not lead to that level of escalation and removal from a medical practice. I would highly recommend that if you don’t like this type of bedside manner, this isn’t the place for you.

I had such a great experience with this practice. I ended up having a complicated pregnancy and I felt like I was in good hands the whole time. My delivery experience was also amazing despite my complications !! I would definitely return back to them for a future child/ GYN visits.

Would not recommend Dr. Walia to any queer woman. After learning I was queer, she suggested that I might have monkeypox because I had bumps on the insides of my upper thighs (spoiler alert: I went to a qualified GYN after that and apparently just had a very normal yeast infection). Her entire face changed after learning my longterm partner was a woman, and she put me on very intense antibiotics for herpes for 7 days, which she had insisted that I start BEFORE my tests came back. Of course, I didn’t have herpes. I had a longterm partner and we had both been tested regularly anyway. It was the kind of behavior deserving of a medical license being revoked. Do not go to this doctor.

I never leave Google reviews but Dr. Walia is truly the best. I’m 25 and came in for an IUD, and as we all know, there are PLENTY of horror stories on the internet about the insertion process… Dr. Walia made it basically pain free. I texted my friends who got IUDs with other doctors and they were absolutely baffled I had such an easy breezy experience. She told me what to expect beforehand, talked me through each step and I left feeling basically normal (some cramping, which I’m sure will continue due to the nature of having an IUD in). Seriously…she is phenomenal and recommend her 1000%

Shocked by previous reviews, albeit they are over 3-5 years old. I delivered both my babies with Dr Cha & Jackson. They’re simply the best: Science-driven, all-women practice. They are kind, knowledgeable and always put the patient(s) first.
