On the Grid : Urban Chestnut Brewing Company

"Chunky wooden banquette tables. Massive steel tanks. Tons on craft beer options flowing from the taps (most of which you won’t be able to pronounce – what the heck is a Gewasserschutz). Grab a group of buddies and head to the Grove’s most boisterous tasting room for a beer-filled afternoon. With so many choices, don’t be afraid to ask the bartender for descriptions, recommendations and even a taste here or there. The lines can seem daunting, but the bar staff works hard to keep your glass full. And don’t worry, Urban Chestnut’s full kitchen offers a selection of snacks, sandwiches and German fare that is sure to soak up the suds. Operating as a true bierhall, the communal seating, energetic atmosphere and frequent events guarantees that you’ll have a good time." - Manifest

Warehouse chic type vibe in what always to be a fun neighborhood... Lots of indoor space, communal tables, massive bar with seating, 2 different patio spaces, and a game room out front. Has food on sight as well.. Beers were real great, looking forward to getting back for more. Overall, a super cool hang.

Google
This place is humongous with two places to order food and alcohol. This place has a lot of benches and is a place I would suggest if you have a party of 1-20 people; the food was great, they have TVs to entertain, and beverages to try. It's definitely a stop to make with friends when there is time for a drink.

Google
Really near place to hang! Huge beer selection as well as other drinks. Huge place too; there's plenty of room for everyone! It feels a lot like an old time beer hall.

We were invited to my cousin’s wedding’s goodbye lunch. There were plenty of large tables available. Food was delicious, though there were some items not available.

Visiting from Wisconsin. We love UCB beer. We had our first taste of it at Salt & Smoke on an earlier visit this year and fell in love. We weren't able to check out the brewery last time, so the first place we went to when we got into town was Urban Chestnut The Grove. I wanted to give a 5 and honestly, if I didn't love thier damn beer so much, sadly, I would have given them a 3. My currywurst was cold, yes actually cold the fries were fresh out so I piled them on top of the sausage to warm it up. We ordered a flight and water, 30 minutes later we got the water. I want to irritate the beers are amazing, we had the battle of the porters and additionally the German porter. Chocolaty creamy goodness, yum. I should mention we were there at about 5:30pm on a Saturday. My opinion, don't bother with the food, and get your beer to go. Which we did. :-)

Google
The beer was great and the building is really cool! We came there planning to eat dinner though and the kitchen was closed for remodeling. There was nothing on our website stating this so we left disappointed. Definitely need to mention on your website if the menu you have posted won't be available.

Google
We came to this brewery after seeing on facebook that there was an Astronomy event here. The building is large, industrial, and very welcoming. The front entrance has some cool arcade games and as you enter you can order some food or go straight to one of the biggest bars I have ever seen. Tap selection was great as were the beers themselves! I was shocked for a Saturday night at how empty it was from 8PM and on.

Google
A great place to grab a pint and some grub. Communal tables, great prices, and very solid beers. Cannot go wrong and I’ll be back for sure.

Yelp
If you like beer, like really like beer, as much as one of our Supremes, then this is the spot for you. If you are not a beer fan, there are cider, wine, and non-alcoholic options. Beer is king here, as UCBC offers light beers like Mexican lagers, hazy IPAs, and German-style biers. We all ordered multiple rounds of different brews and agreed that all were well done. Of course, beer drinking led to the munchies, so we ordered from their BBQ/German kitchen. Be aware that the portions are huge. The pulled pork nacho plate could easily feed three, and their sandwiches are easily sharable. UCBC is a huge venue with a game area, a ginormous beer hall, and a patio area. The bartenders were friendly and cheerfully provided tastings. UCBC reminds me of The Brewtique, here in ATX, but larger and with more beer options. You guys in STL are sure lucky to have UCBC! Easy 5-star review.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for a comedy show with tickets that I actually won from Yelp! We decided to get a beer and some dinner after the show. This place is huge! Great for parties and groups. It sits right on the corner of Manchester so you can't miss it. They have a small arcade when you first walk in and then you go up the steps you can order food, drinks, and sit at picnic tables to enjoy them. The line was a little lengthy, but it moved pretty swiftly. They serve food from Sugarfire barbecue restaurant. I got a smoked turkey Caesar salad and my husband got a burger. That salad was so good. I was really skeptical about the smoked turkey flavor, but it was perfect. My husband's burger was also delicious and flavorful. I'm coming back for the brisket pizza!

Yelp
This place is a joke. Literally the third time I've been here (and now the last) where you go to order food at 8pm on a Friday and they are out of almost everything. No joke. No exaggeration. See photo. The management needs to be fired for poor ordering food inventory. And they are still open another 4 hours. This place sucks No other way to put it.

Yelp
Urban chestnut is a good place to hang out with some friends. The inside space is s little small but they have a huge and really nice outdoor seating area. The Chile Verde burger was surprisingly delicious and they have a nice selection of beer. I suggest you get the $8 flight so you can sample a bunch. The service is a little odd so it's good to know how things work going in. You order at the bar and give them your number, then they text you when it is time to pick up your food at the urgent pickup shelf. Have fun!
google avatar

Yelp
Such a fun and casual spot with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options! Everything was very clean, and the host at the door who greeted us was friendly. We ordered our foods and drinks at the counter and chose a table near the entrance. It was pretty noisy inside, so I think it would've been a bit challenging to interact with a larger group here. Luckily, there were only three of us! My friends and I shared a margarita pizza, and I had a Big Shark Grapefruit Radler to drink. Both were amazing! They have a huge beer selection... I'm very indecisive, so I had a hard time making a decision! However, the bartender was extremely knowledgeable about all of the options, which definitely helped me out. They have some great non-alcoholic beers to choose from as well. I can't wait to try more next time I visit!
google avatar

Marisa B.

Yelp
I did not order the food but the beer was fantastic! They did have Sugarfire available, a huge bierhall to enjoy and they had a front room with some games to play. The bartender was fun, very attentive and gave us a few tasters on some of his most interesting beers. This is a great spot to bring a group of friends, a first date or hold an event. I tried the pumpkin beer and loved it! It was the right amount of cream with spices. I was also encouraged to try a 'Ski' soda - it was a mix of Sprite and Mt.Dew. They were out of their sour beer but I really enjoyed the hard cider here as well.

Yelp
Urban Chestnut is a go-to for happy hour with my friends and coworkers. Mostly street parking on Manchester which can be tricky. You can always find a seat and it's nice on the patio during the warmer months. Their pretzel sticks are super tasty and I like that they have a few options other than beer (cider, NA beer, hop water, soda). Bartenders are always friendly and happy to let you try the beers first.
google avatar

Yelp
Food menu likely soon changing with restructuring and Sugarfire BBQ moving in to save UCBC's dining situation. Going to miss the German treats but they have been phasing it out more and more over the years from Midtown location entirely and now here, as well. The beers are always fantastic, the bierhaus long table Oktoberfest ambiance and togetherness of all the eclectic patrons is always enjoyable. Strongly recommend the Schnimlefritz beer as one of the smoothest, most well-rounded Bavarian lagers in existence that can be found fairly easily around town and along certain AB delivery routes. Seasonal are incredible but beware the ABV in some, not for the beginners unless enjoyed very slowly as they pack quite the punch! Pröst!!!

Yelp
I have truly slept on Urban Chestnut Brewing in St. Louis, Missouri. I first tried them way too early in my beer journey when I thought they were boring in comparison to the hazies and IPAs. As I have matured, I have come to love lagers more and more - and they produce some of the best I have EVER had. Urban Chestnut Brewing Company's brewing philosophy is called "Beer Divergency", which is a "new world meets old world" approach. They create modern American beers while also paying respect to the heritage of beer. Such passion shows through their beers ever since they opened back in 2011 by Florian Kuplent and David Wolfe, two beer industry veterans. I had three small pours to enjoy some of the classic beers that they excel at. Forest Park Pilsner: A Pre-Prohibition Style American Pilsner that has a nice noble character and is light in body. There is a slight toasted white cracker malt flavor with some sweet notes. Czech Pilsner: A Czech-style Pilsner lager that is golden, peppery, herbal, and clean finishing. Nice malt character to provide balance to the hops. A perfect representation of the style. Zwickel: An unpasteurized German Zwickelbier. It is their flagship lager for a reason. It is smooth and crisp highlighting Hallertau hops and Two-Row/Pilsner malts. A slight cloudiness in the beer, which is to be expected in the unfiltered beer. I could drink this beer all day, every day and be happy. _____

Yelp
Left another local brewery because of their garbage service and came here instead. Grabbed the frites and doughnuts filled with strawberry and basil filling, Very good! We tried a couple of different dark beers and enjoyed them all. We've been here a bunch of times and always enjoyed ourselves. The open seating and long tables/benches are nice to be able to relax and enjoy. The servers were all friendly and helpful. Allowed us to try a couple of samples before we ordered. We always try the seasonal beers and these did not disappoint!

Yelp
Very good pulled pork sandwich. Decent fries. Great space. Wide variety of beers. I like this place.

Yelp
So I would definitely give them a four and a half stars. We have loved this place for years and heard about some troubles in fall 2024 so popped in to use the gift card for fear that maybe they would close. Noted that they no longer carry the Missouri mushroom pizza which was devastating to us but instead decided to roll with it and order an appetizer and split the smash burger and I got to say they're still winning with the smash burger. It is among the very best we have had and as good as it's always been. Seems as thought Sugar Fire has taken over the food, and I am sadly not a bbq fan (I know that is frowned upon in STL) but they are doing an excellent job as I would expect of that highly rated establishment. Props to UCBC. I hope you get it sorted out because you are an STL treasure. Also, beer is still great and staff friendly.

Yelp
Went here last night with the family, my second time here. The beer selections are incredible, this time we had food as well, and everything was great. A picture of the pizza below is the next day, it cooked up exactly like it tasted fresh, which is amazing! Really nice soft crust, the cheeses are delicious on top. I think this is one fourth or fifth of the pizza so they are big. I saw the price and thought what the heck? But it made sense because it can feed three people. There are so much more interesting peas on the menu as well, but since we had the kids, we went with the old standard. Two people got the chicken sandwich, which was also great, had nice spice level to it, and you could tell the chicken and the breading, etc. being fried was very fresh. The curry knockwurst was also a big hit! Literally everything we got was good, I will definitely come back. There's also a game room for the kids, it's pretty much all pinball machines , along with the amazing bubble hockey, but those things are finicky and breakdown quite a bit. It is free, so you can't really complain

Yelp
The patio deck is a perfect spot on a nice night or inside when the doors are all open. Pizza from here always hits the spot; pepperoni never fails. If you're wanting something a bit more unique, the Charcuterie/sampling board is surprising in the best way. Everything obviously pairs perfectly with beer. I believe you usually order for yourself at the bar/counter but have also had a server come to the table to take our order. Bartenders/staff are always helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here to enjoy some craft beer and cider. The space is large and spread out. We had our drinks outside. Nice covered patio facing the street. When you come on you can see the cats first brewing very cool. I had the Underdog lager which was perfect. My Daughter got the Bullshead cider which she also enjoyed. My Wife got the Fantasyland which was favorably commented in. We didn't eat but the food looked pretty decent. Fun place to spend an afternoon in St. Louis for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, good cider, had the hummus plate with veggies and it was a great size for sharing or a meal.

Yelp
Second trip to Urban Chestnut while visiting the area on business. Really tasty food - everything from pizza to pretzels to bratwurst, schnitzels and German potato salad. Of course the beer is amazing as well, the black lager was my favorite, along with the dunkel. Plenty of options for anyone's taste! Looking forward to coming again the next time I'm in St Louis.

Yelp
Cool STL hipster brewery... We lived in STL for 3 years, but never made it out to UCBC (because of the political virus that was COVID)... We've had the beer many times at other places though. UCBC arguably brews the best beer in STL and has a huge variety of choices. We stopped into the Grove location when back in town for work... Cool, beer hall style brewery with really good German pub fair. Everyone was friendly and the service was good... Definitely has the "lib vibe" (obviously, since it's in the Grove), but it's a chill atmosphere and people were nice - We'll stop back in again when in town.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Best Cider in Stl. Great pizza. Chill vibe with outdoor seating. Walkable. It's a regular spot For us in the grove.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
We get pizza and beer and play arcade games with our kids on Sunday afternoons here. Its pretty chill around 5pm, but too busy and loud for our family later than 6pm. Its a great place to do an after work happy hour during the week, and a great place to start the night of you're going to other places in the Grove Thur, Fri or Sat. The pizza is a little burnt and greasy. The beer is great on draft although UCBC seems to be struggling with its beer identity recently.

Yelp
We stopped in to this brewery for a quick bite between a wedding service and reception. It was the perfect spot! They have lots of beers to pick from but I thought it was odd that they didn't have anything additional they served (coke fountain products or cocktails, aside from a few canned and bottled selections). You walk up to order and all seating is open and communal! It was an interesting vibe and perfect for a big party. The pizza and loaded fries were pretty bomb! I liked both IPAs and the pumpkin ale I tried. I felt like the first sip of the Pumpkin ale just tasted like a cold brew with a hint of Pumpkin! You definitely don't want to come here if you have any dietary restrictions. I felt like they didn't have many options for gluten free people, but it is a brewery! Overall, I would come back. Average prices, okay service (when asked, servers get a big detailed into flavor profiles of beers, but don't offer the info up voluntarily).
google avatar

Sami B.

Yelp
For Father's Day we did a day in the grove & urban chestnut was our second to last stop! I'm not a huge beer person but they do have some non-beer options. I got the Bushelhead Cider, it's not my favorite cider cause it's a little drier than I prefer but still pretty good! We got a pizza, pretzel, and some loaded fries. The pizza was amazing. I was actually upset that I shared and didn't hoard the rest to take home me... joking kinda. Have never been to this location it was huge, the service was pretty fast, and there was tons of tables and indoor/outdoor areas. Great spot for a chill day!
google avatar

Lori B.

Yelp
If I could give MORE stars I absolutely would. UCBC makes fantastic beer and they get super creative with it. Their Konomi Ale is superb. It is so unique and such a delight for the taste. Although, you can never go wrong with an Urban Underdog if you are unsure of what to try! The atmosphere is always upbeat and staff is friendly and willing to guide you through their menu to find just what you want!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite places to grab a drink! Urban Chestnut has been a brewery staple in STL since forever (in my memory lol). There are three locations, two in STL and 1 in Germany! How amazing is that! The locations in STL are the grove (pictured here) and the Biergarten in Midtown! My brother and I stopped by to get a couple drinks and catch up after our Father's Day brunch. It was gorgeous outside, so we sat on the patio! The patio is long rather than wide, which is pretty cool because it lays parallel with Manchester. Great for a good Grove view. I got two different drinks. The Big Shark Grapefruit Radler which is a lager with grapefruit soda. It was a perfect ratio and reminded me of summer brew- exactly what I wanted for a summer day. I also got the mango seltzer and it was light and refreshing. I also love anything mango so that helped. My brother is an IPA lover and got the STLIPA. He loved it, and I always love any incorporation of STL in anything. Highly recommend if you'd love a great chill spot.
google avatar

Bonnie L.

Yelp
Solid place to get together for drinks and food. Parking can be challenging. They have a small lot. Can take awhile to find street parking. The my have everyone's favorite beers. They also have flavored sparking water with hop. The pizza was solid. The brat was good, you get two. The fries were good. Bottom line, decent food at a brewery. Plenty of seats.
google avatar

Michael D.

Yelp
Lots of beer choices, lots of space, and great staff. We got some really tasty beers including a tasty hazy ipa. They also had some local sodas. I got the Cherry one and it was so tasty. Their was one pale ale that had cherry/ berry notes that wasn't that great but it's a temporary one that's part of a pale ale contest they are currently running.
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
I love this spot. There's never any complaints with urban beers! Except maybe when they don't have any sours haha! Parking is usually easy to find on the street, they have so much real estate. Also, plenty of table space for everyone. I don't know if I've ever seen it fill up!! The food I've had is always good - pizza, the pretzels are always so delicious. Perfect spot for a few beers after work to chit chat and hang out!
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
This is a great brewery in STL. They have a lot of beers to choose from, their grapefruit radler is one of my absolute favorite drinks to have, it's just so good. The pizza here is also top tier, the sauce has a great taste and the crust is perfectly cooked with that nice crunchy bite. I was caught off guard with their little doughnut. I thought they were going to be sweet but the filling was not, it didn't have a bad taste it just wasn't my type of flavor to go with the sweet dough and powder sugar. The inside of the building has a nice brewery look that is just aesthetically pleasing while enjoying a cold beer.
google avatar

Audrey B.

Yelp
This is my kind of place, probably because I'm of german heritage, but I mean who doesn't like pretzels and beer? Love their pretzel sticks and beer cheese with a big beer. It's really my idea of heaven. Anyway, It's german beer hall style, which is nice because you go find a spot at the huge tables and have a good time. I like being able to mingle and meet new people and this is perfect for that. Prost! Oh and the beer is pretty great!
google avatar

Dan N.

Yelp
We were in town for a graduation and my niece who lives here took us all to Urban Chestnut. It a very cook place, a big openhall with tons of space. The room has a long bar at the front for drinks and a side area with food. They has a lot of great sounding beers but I got stuck on the Big Shark Grapefruit Radler. It was awesome, fresh, bright. clean, fruit forward. I had to buy a few 4 packs to take home. The menu is small and has a bit of a focus on German food. Someone got a margherita pizza to share as an appetizer, it was far better than i expected it too be. Very much in the brick oven neapolitan style, great crust, good chew, well cooked and excellent flavor. I also got the Brat Board, 2 nice size and excellent brats with toast, sauerkraut, and potato salad. Everything was great, I loved this place so much....if it wasnt 5+ hours from home. Next time were back that will be a must stop
google avatar

Ekta S.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in the city and walking distance from anywhere in the Grove! The indoor vibes are cozy with the lighting and wood detail and the pizza (my favorite is the kale and garlic) is perfectly warm and cheesy each time. The winter months are my favorite as more porter options are on draft. This one is the Wolpertinger 2024 Coffee Porter!
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Urban Chestnut has long been my favorite craft brew location in St Louis. Even when you had to get pizza across the street from their small pizza shop. UCBC delivers outstanding beer and eats in a German style bierhalle. The pizza is delicious and does a great job soaking up the beer, but their loaded fries and German specialties are top notch as well. And don't forget the beer - great versions of German classics like Schnicklefitz (hefe), zwickel (lager), and their pilsners will not disappoint, but don't forget their other styles like Fantasyland IPA and their Hallertau haze! A gear spot for a casual date or to meet 10 of your closest friends. UCBC is a must!
google avatar

Mai S.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere. They have the long table style dining where you often sit next to strangers (your next new friends) The loaded pomme frite is out of this world I'm not really a drinker so I go as the DD and just eat my weight in ridiculously delicious food. I also don't really like sausage but I love it here! The pizzas and bread are gorgeous. Review from the beer peeps in my party: So many options and all of them are solid. Plenty available for to go order. Highly recommend.

Leslie P.

Yelp
Sugar Fire stay in your lane. You ruined the best pizza in town. My friend and I were craving some giant sausage New York style pizza from urban Chestnut. We got there only to find that sugar fire completely changed the menu they have reduced the size of the pizza to 14 inches but kept the 18 inch pizza price. We were so disappointed we left.
google avatar

Isabel M.

Yelp
Urban Chestnut has a very cool atmosphere. It is kind of like a giant cafeteria, but it was not too crowded this Sunday afternoon. My friend and I shared a 4 cheese pizza and had plenty of leftovers, which is always nice! The staff were friendly and answered all of our questions. I also ordered the cider on tap and it was very refreshing. I would have enjoyed Urban Chestnut a little more if there was more parking available and if they allowed customization of their pizzas (like half one flavor and half another).
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Best brewery in St Louis. Dorfbier never disappoints. Always go when in town. Friendly staff. Tasty food and snacks
google avatar

Charles M.

Yelp
Love their beers, especially Schnicklefritz and Urban Underdog. The food is nice also!
google avatar

Güneş Ö.

Yelp
Nice ginormous old paper factory building with tall ceilings and old pipes! I like the long tables. I got Konomi Japanese ale, was really good & refreshing. We ordered pretzel and I think is wasn't fresh, maybe frozen.

RJ B.

Yelp
Have always loved the beer, food and vibe--but the last *five* times we've been there on a Friday evening we could not get pizza because they are out of basil, cheese or other ingredients. Whoever does the ordering should be replaced -- and the staff were as frustrated as we were. We'll stop coming altogether if this isn't corrected.
google avatar

Yelp
Chill vibes, great snacks, amazing atmosphere! Environment: Located towards the end of the grove, they have a spacious front door entrance area with a patio. When you enter, you are immediately in a "den"-like area that breaks off into the main hall and a private room (that seems free to use if there aren't any reservations for it). The main hall is open and high ceiled which made for a classier feel. The seating consists of multiple rows of king picnic tables. The all wooden atmosphere gives a sort of rustic charm. Order at the bar for drinks and at the kitchen (a small counter right next to the bar) for food. The staff were all super nice and you didn't have to wait long to place your orders. Drinks came quick. Be sure to order food right away though if you're planning to eat... takes about 20-30 mins for apps and 30-60 mins for pizzas (sometimes more, they place a sign on the counter to say when the wait time is really long). Once the order is ready, you get a text and have to pick up the food from the counter yourself. Food/Drinks: The beers are awesome. They have a rotation every few weeks or so for all of the different beers which keeps things interesting for those who are looking for a go-to beer spot. The also give water cups on request. If you have a tab at the bar, you can order from the kitchen and add to the tab without problems; without a tab there, you have to pay for the food you order upfront. We tried the Cheese, Margarita, and Peperoni pizzas. We also got pretzel with beer cheese and mustard, and fries. The pizzas are solid, but the balance was off. Too much dough, lots of cheese, and not as much sauce. The sauce is also a bit on the sweeter side. The pepperonis tasted high quality though! The dough is definitely airy, but the pizza lacked the crisp you want on the pizza and was a bit floppy... couldn't pass the hold test. The pretzels are fantastic, light and crisp-- the beer cheese is also delicious. The mustard is good, but be warned it's a bit spicy and has an intense flavor! The fries were average and a bit too salty. Rating: 4/5, the atmosphere and staff are fantastic; the snacks are awesome, and the pizza + toppings are solid, just on the doughy-ier side and a bit floppy. Pizza was a 3/5 in our book, with the strong suit being the quality of ingredients. Unfortunately came as part of a big group and wasn't able to snap pictures, sorry!!

Yelp
I am trying to get into the brewery scene in stl (because we have a great one) so of course I had to come to Urban chestnut! As of right now they are doing indoor seating which is nice. We went in on a Wednesday night and it wasn't that packed so there was plenty of room to social distance! What I ordered: to be honest- I have no clue. I am strictly a fruity beer gal so I asked for a recommendation and just agreed to whatever our server's suggestion was. I ended up with a perfect raspberry beer! I loved the vibe and I can't wait to come back to try some more fruity beers:)

Yelp
Stop 2 on The Grove bar crawl of Sept 2019. German bierhall theme with many craft beers in cans and on tap. It's YUGE inside. The pretzel stick things were awesome. Definitely worth checking out.
google avatar

Brett H.

Yelp
Cant believe I haven't reviewed this spot the other times I have been in for drinks. A big spacious German style beer hall. All the beers I have sampled here have been so good. The Stan Musial and Forrest Park were both perfect for my taste's. You can never go wrong with the Zwickel and huge New York style pizza. They do a great job on pizza. They also have plenty of other items to choose from. Smash burgers and pretzels seem to be very popular. The staff is always very helpful. The best part is you always see someone cleaning!! The only down fall is street parking can be tricky. They do have a small parking lot outback.

Yelp
Probably the closest thing to a proper beer hall in the area. Large indoor seating area and smaller outdoor seating area (on the terrace, the exterior door to which might or might not be open). Large beer selection. They have bottled Excel soda products (Ski and friends), but the pricing is a bit steep. If you're looking for cocktails or a soda fountain this is not the place for you. The food is good and complements the beer. Service is fine.

Yelp
I LOVE URBAN CHESTNUT! I grew up close to St. Louis and come back at least once or twice a year and always try to come back to Urban Chestnut. They have some of my favorite beer! And their food is great too! If it's a quick trip and I can't make it to one of their establishments I run over to a Schnucks and pick up as much Urban Chestnut beer as possible to take back home. My go-to is their Schnickelfritz but I love it all! Just picked up some Tangerine Radler and it's great too!

Yelp
Back again in STL from San Francisco! Urban Chestnut you never fail in your hoppy elixirs of awesomeness. This Balkan Treabox Helles Lager is the BEST lager that has ever graced my lips, and I've drank a lot of lagers. Your Lil Fritz Wit beer is a gloriously light flavor beer bomb to my tastebuds. Don't ever changed. Y'all rock!

Yelp
This was a pretty cool place. I liked the vibe for sure. Large beer list, but i wish places like this would have a description of the beers so you know what youre ordering. I appreciate the cool names but there is no way of knowing what to order. I had the cider and it was good! Husband liked his pumpkin beer and octoberfest type beer. We sat at the bar and had good service. We ordered the pretzel sticks which i dont recommend really. Burnt tasting and no salt or anything. They had a cool area with pool and games but the pool sticks are so bad you cant even hit the cue ball lol. Shuffleboard had no salt and the whole area smelt like a musty turd. We would maybe go back here for a drink.

Yelp
If you are a fan of traditional German style beers, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is the place for you because they do German beers BIG. From the hard to pronounce names to the easy to drink beers, Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is truly a part of the fabric of St. Louis. When I very first moved to the city, I quickly fell in love with Urban Chestnut Brewing Company's STLIPA (stLEEpa to those in the know.) It's a workhorse, no frills, big hoppy punch in the mouth IPA. I quickly found that you don't need your own pair of lederhosen to truly appreciate the delicious craft beer offered by Urban Chestnut Brewing Company. I originally loved popping by the mid-town brewery because if its breathtaking German biergarten, but now that I live in Soulard, getting to the Urban Chestnut Brewing Company in the Grove is so much easier. The bierhall Urban Chestnut Brewing Company created anchors the west end of the Grove's bustling business district. I have never had a problem parking on Manchester, or finding parking on one of the side streets. They also offer limited parking in a small parking lot just east of the main entrance. The ambiance of the Urban Chestnut Brewing Company bierhall is vibrant. With long, sturdy tables that look and feel historic running across the hall, you can easily gather a larger group of friends for a big celebration. The one drawback to the massive room are the acoustics. Urban Chestnut Brewing Company's bierhall can get VERY loud because there is no acoustical treatment on the ceiling or walls. It's a big cement room with lots of flat surfaces for sound to bounce around on. I personally like to snag a table on their small outside balcony. It's a slightly more intimate setting with only a few tables spread along a narrow walkway. The outside area is also pet friendly, but it's a tad convoluted because you have to have someone go inside and open a gate to the patio to allow your pup access to the outdoor area as dogs are not allowed inside the bierhall. Food served at Urban Chestnut Brewing Company is always top notch. I love their pizza. It's the closest thing to New York style pizza I've found in St. Louis. The crust is always crunchy and the cheese is gooey. I also love their fish and chips when it is available. The beer batter on the fish is crispy and never too oily. And the fries are tasty. Zwickel. Urban Underdog. STLIPA. So many great year round offerings. I also have dreams about the seasonal Count Orlock black pumpkin lager. SO good. Urban Chestnut Brewing Company brews some tasty beers for sure.

Great place to hangout and grab a drink with friends after work! The staff is super friendly and the pretzel with cheese is sooo yummy.
