The Best Hotels in Copenhagen, From a Boutique Urban Retreat to a Repurposed Brewery

"Best Copenhagen hotel for: design aficionados Opened in 2019, design-led Audo fits perfectly into the up-and-coming Nordhavn neighborhood on the northern edge of Copenhagen developing from its origins as a port to become a design-centric residential, work, and lifestyle enclave in which design studios and cafes are transforming its heritage buildings to retain the warmth and soul of the area. Bjarne Hansen, who is also behind Menu design company, created The Audo in collaboration with Norm Architects and the cofounder of Kinfolk magazine, Nathan Williams. Behind the original dark-orange façade of a former trade house, this impeccably designed and styled space now encompasses a 10-room hotel, cafe, fine dining restaurant, and concept store, all centered around an amphitheatrical staircase, in which all items of decor can be bought through the hybrid design concept. Generously sized, residential-style accommodation including suites, studio suites and a penthouse continue the design concept of the rest of the property and come with a careful curation of complimentary minibar items, breakfast in The Audo Salon, and use of bicycles for exploration of Copenhagen using The Audo’s own City Guide. Summer 2022 saw the opening of this design concept’s new fine dining Restaurant Hâidan serving the 18-course tasting menus of Palermo-born chef Gabriele Rizzo, fusing Chinese and Scandinavian culinary traditions. Fantastic location right next to the main station and Tivoli. Beds were comfy and clean. Bathroom was not so clean, shower was in need of a referb and almost impossible to sit on the loo as the shower was touching the toilet bowl. First night of 2 was fine but windows didn't seal closed so it a fair bit of noise and draught from outside. Second night was a nightmare. Room next door full of German teens shouting, jumping and laughing all night. Our kids finally fell asleep at 11:30pm but they were so overtired and grumpy the next day it ruined the day. |I reccomend to skip the terrible chaotic breakfast and opt for one of the far better Danish bakery nearby for cheaper prices and tastier food. |If you're young or looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in a good location, this place will be good. It will be hit or miss for a family depending on who is staying in the rooms around you. |Left luggage lockers available but you have to pay for them. |We love Copenhagen as a family but likely won't stay here again due to the noise.

It's a fantastic location right next door to the main train station. We are here as a couple in our late 50s from Ireland and we don't feel out of place. Great atmosphere. Great staff, who are super friendly and helpful. We are staying in a double private room with bathroom and its very clean and a great sized room. Lovely white clean sheets and white towels. Downstairs is a bar and loads of different seating areas to relax or mingle. Sofas, bean bags are also in quieter areas. And a games room. Its a busy place but also very quiet at night in our bedroom. I can't find any faults with it. Kitchen area available for guests where you can store your food or beverages and they provide labels and bags so you can write your name and room number on them. Highly recommend this place for everyone ☺️

Sadly, they’re really mean to school classes. We were very well behaved, and still they treated us like criminals. The night guards are mean and make you a little uncomfortable just for entering the building after night time(10pm). The location is great tho. A little mold never killed nobody but still I wish my bathroom to be clean if I pay this amount of money Allbeit , the rooms and service offers nothing to complain about. The actual converging thing, if you don’t like to be rushed while enjoying your meal is THE BREAKFAST!!! You’ve got an exactly scheduled appointment for 30 minutes that allows you to inhale your food, while your constantly friendly reminded, that the clock is ticking. Once the time is over you’re haunted by the staff to leave the breakfast room. This would not be a problem at all, if the queues wouldn’t take all your time, so that in total on a lucky day you munch down in 6 minutes. Still had a great time, but the receptionist is a really scary human being. My advice for the Copenhagen Urban house is to change their slogan that every employee wears on the workwear "in a world full of robots, I’m human“ should definitely be edited. If you’re looking for a scare house experience I would definitely recommend. Could be adventurous if you’re here with the right people, it didn’t ruin our Copenhagen trip. Also really well located if you wanna have a nice evening walk on the hooker street! Hope that helped to assist your choice of hostel.

Small rooms, no heating in september, low quality beds, no slippers. They do not keep luggages if you arrive early, instead they offer paid lockers. Very noisy, cannot sleep. Perfect location, near to the train station and subway. Very nice and kind staff.

The hotel is in a nice and comfortable location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the central station. Getting from the airport to the hotel took about 30 minutes total, which is amazing. It’s also close to a metro station, though I ended up walking everywhere since the city center was not far at all. The room was okay. We opted for a private room and found it quite comfortable. Breakfast was fine and enjoyable. The real issue with this hotel was the service. The receptionists were indifferent at best and downright rude at worst. I’ve stayed in multiple hotels from this chain over the past three years, and this was by far the worst service I’ve experienced. On a few occasions, staff switched to their own language to make comments about guests and what they were saying was far from polite (never assume the person in front of you doesn’t understand you). We also had an issue with the lockers for luggage storage (which you have to pay for). When we asked the receptionist for help, we received an extremely rude response that made us feel as if we had done something wrong just by asking. On top of that, the check-in lines were absurdly long.

As with most hostels, no thought has been given to the human element, people need a curtain and noise maker so there can be a little bit of privacy, and not have to disturb 9 people every time you move around, or come and go. The staff is awesome though, and the community kitchen is a blast, as well as the nice big lounge area. And if you are coming to stay as a group, and you have giant fancy suitcases, and you will get up early and talk incessantly, and not cover your coughing, and won't put your phone on do not disturb, just get your own room! Don't ruin it for everyone else in your room! I asked for a different room and they were able to happily move me.

I stayed five nights with my seven year old son, I booked because of the good family recommendations and the location and I was delighted with our stay. This place has all the benefits of a hotel and a hostel in one. Friendly staff, great breakfast selection, room was quiet and comfortable. |The best thing is the location, so close to Tivoli that we came back for a short nap and went back out for the concert and fireworks, an unforgettable memory! Handy for the trains, metro and buses, and we ate at the nearby Tivoli food hall every night.|Handy to have the kitchen and fridges available, and lots of families were using the kitchen for evening meals.|I would recommend this place to anyone coming to Copenhagen and wanting a central, comfortable and interesting place to stay.

We left last week from our school trip… Time for breakfast: 30 MINUTES?! so that means you have to shove food in your mouth and, if you are too slow you get thrown out and rushed. AND don‘t you dare bring some food out of the cafeteria!!!(extra charge) The rooms are okay, but the bathroom is pretty conserning (mold in the shower!), I think it is not too much to ask for a clean room, if I paid. Additionally, I have to talk about the staff here… the employees and mostly the guards in this facility talk to you like you‘re some criminal… I think a nice smile would be nice to see some day! In conclusion, the hotel is not the worst and I still liked my stay here, but it definetly needs some improving especially regarding the staff and their “policies“.

Yelp
The Urban House Copenhagen Hostel officially became part of the Meininger Hotel portfolio on 1/1/2017. This 218 room hotel was previously operated by Paradox AB. There is about 1,000 beds in the 218 rooms, spread out over 5 floors in 4 adjacent buildings. The room types range from standard double rooms, to private rooms with multiple beds, to a bed in a dormitory. All public spaces including lobby, lounge, quiet room, cinema room, restaurant and bar as well as guest kitchen and games room are located on the ground floor. We had the private room family room with 4 beds and a private bathroom. There are no frills or thrills in the rooms themselves, after all it is a hostel. The room we booked was located on the 4th floor. Doors are unlocked by a keycard. There are 3 decent sized lockers can fit back packs and maybe a small carryon suitcase in the room next to the door which you can lock up (bring your own lock). Under the bunk bed there is also small lockers for personal belongings which you can lock up as well (bring your own lock). The windows open for fresh air, but be careful not to fall out as there is no screens. I do not believe there is any air conditioning, but for heating there is a furnace and you can control the amount of heat that comes in by turning a knob. The bathroom was clean and provided the essentials. They do cleanings if requested, but we didn't ask for a cleaning, just fresh towels about half way through our 6 night stay. Like most hostels, this hostel offered plenty of shared lounge areas including a TV room with a couch, a shared kitchen and dining room. This hostel also has a bar and a cafe that opens for breakfast for a small fee (we did not try). There is fee WiFi that worked fairly well and was enough to stream videos and upload all my pictures and videos to social media without issues. We had no issues while staying here and felt safe. They have a security guard in the lobby during the evenings/nights. They do hold activities in the evenings such as live bands, dancing, etc the bar/cafe area. The walls of the room are not particularly thick, so you tend to hear the neighbors talking. The morning we were planning on checking out, there was a false fire alarm. Everyone filed into the lobby or outside. There was a slight confusion initially on whether it was a false alarm or not, but the fire department did come and was cleared to return to the rooms about 30 minutes or so later. Overall, we were pleased with the Urban House by Meininger (we have stayed a few Meininger properties during our travels through Europe and like staying with them). The location is the best part about this hostel (outside of the price, about $480 for 6 nights). It is located about 1.5 blocks from the Copenhagen Central Train Station and the Metro lightrail is about 2 blocks away for easy/quick access to transportation. There is a 7-Eleven around the corner so you can pick up a few things and snacks. It borders the Chinatown area so there are a bunch of Chinese restaurants nearby. Tivoli Gardens is only a short 5-10 minute walk as is the Tivoli Food Hall (lots of eateries to choose from). Grocery stores are also a 10-15 minute walk. The City Hall is about a 15 minute walk which leads to the beginning of the Strøget Shopping District. If you are spending some time in Copenhagen and are on a budget for hotels, don't mind some noise, don't mind meeting new friends and want to stay in a convenient location with easy access to transportation and attractions, you can't go wrong staying here. Tip: If you arrive before check-in (3pm) and want to store your luggage and start exploring the city or if your plane is later in the afternoon/evening after checkout (11am) and you want to do more exploring , you can lock your luggage in their lockers. It is all activated electronically and payment is through a credit card. Minimum time is 3 hours, cost is a little over $2 USD.
