The Best Hotels in Copenhagen, From a Boutique Urban Retreat to a Repurposed Brewery

"Best Copenhagen hotel for: design aficionados Opened in 2019, design-led Audo fits perfectly into the up-and-coming Nordhavn neighborhood on the northern edge of Copenhagen developing from its origins as a port to become a design-centric residential, work, and lifestyle enclave in which design studios and cafes are transforming its heritage buildings to retain the warmth and soul of the area. Bjarne Hansen, who is also behind Menu design company, created The Audo in collaboration with Norm Architects and the cofounder of Kinfolk magazine, Nathan Williams. Behind the original dark-orange façade of a former trade house, this impeccably designed and styled space now encompasses a 10-room hotel, cafe, fine dining restaurant, and concept store, all centered around an amphitheatrical staircase, in which all items of decor can be bought through the hybrid design concept. Generously sized, residential-style accommodation including suites, studio suites and a penthouse continue the design concept of the rest of the property and come with a careful curation of complimentary minibar items, breakfast in The Audo Salon, and use of bicycles for exploration of Copenhagen using The Audo’s own City Guide. Summer 2022 saw the opening of this design concept’s new fine dining Restaurant Hâidan serving the 18-course tasting menus of Palermo-born chef Gabriele Rizzo, fusing Chinese and Scandinavian culinary traditions. I liked this place a lot. It tries hard to be a bit cool and edgy, but there are plenty of families staying here, as well as the backpackers. For a backpacker, I think this is an excellent choice - you have a shared kitchen and a hassle-free laundry, plus loads of chances to meet people and hang out. For me (with two teenage daughters) it was also fine. The rooms were clean and sufficient for our needs (nothing more, nothing less). The bathrooms are quite tiny, so if you are plus-size I would go elsewhere, but for us they were fine. My daughters slept in bunk beds, with my wife and I in the double bed. Plenty of storage for bits and pieces, and if you bring a padlock then it's quite secure. My only slight annoyances were (1) our room overlooked a service area, so we were woken up by the bins being put out at night, and again in the morning by a delivery (however, the staff were happy to change our room). If you're young and cool, this probably wouldn't bother you; (2) they don't have things like ice buckets (for booze) and they can't order you taxis or tickets to things or restaurant reservations (again, if you're young and cool, this probably isn't a problem); and (3) the breakfast was cold food only (boiled eggs, cold cuts, toast, etc) and was very bland (but no more bland than the food everywhere else in Denmark) - again, this probably doesn't matter to a young, cool backpacker. I advise bringing a bottle of hot sauce or your favourite condiment down for breakfast (and to every meal, everywhere in Denmark to be honest!) The location is great - literally two minutes from the Central Station. The area is a bit scruffy, but I didn't feel afraid. We rented bikes, which weren't the cheapest but avoided the scams and rip-offs associated with bike rentals elsewhere. The hotel bikes were well-maintained and fun to ride (NB: They aren't easy to ride as they are tall and back-pedalling is used to brake, etc, so I'd recommend experienced cyclists only!) The staff were all friendly and kind and there was never a queue for anything (we visited in July). I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for something basic and decent and relatively no-frills.

Title: Great location and comfortable stay Review: I stayed at Urban House Copenhagen and really enjoyed my time there. The location is excellent — just a short walk from the railway station, which makes getting around the city very convenient. The atmosphere is modern and welcoming, and everything was clean and well-maintained. Perfect for travelers who want both comfort and easy access to transportation. Would happily stay here again!

This hostel was great for me as a female solo traveller. It's conveniently located super close to the train station and very close to other restaurants, attractions, and stores. It offers basic amenities: bar, cafe, and lounge. I didn't find it terribly social, I saw it as mostly families and large groups. They didn't host any evening events where you could meet people like most hotels. However, I would stay here again for the private room alone; the view was fantastic and the bathroom was spacious and clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, as it was hassle-free and the staff was respectful.

I recently stayed at Urban House in Copenhagen for a school trip, and it was amazing! It's located right in the city which is quite convenient to get around easily, but it can be a little noisy at night if you keep the windows open. There's many food places and shops located at a short walking distance, as is Tivoli if you need a fun night out with kids. The beds and rooms are quite comfy and spacious as well. There's lots of common spaces to hangout with friends and games/events to keep you entertained. Shoutout to Aggelo for always playing great music for us and being so helpful and sweet! The staff was always ready to help. It's a great fun place to stay at!

We stayed overnight having arrived at the airport. It was comfortable with a bar, laundry, kitchen and quiet space. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We are both retired but it wasn't too "young". It was just nice and easy and comfortable. We would definitely come again.

All the hotels were looked at in Copenhagen were crazy expensive, so Urban House provided RELATIVELY good value, but still super expensive for our private room with four beds. Location is superb. Close to train station and Tivoli Gardens. Simple but adequate furnishings. It isn't fancy but it works. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Good climate control/air-conditioning that kept temperature comfortable and not too loud. Bathroom could use updating and not very well designed but toilet flushes well! It is BIG with only one elevator that we could find. We had to walk about a city block length to get to our room which. Would stay again unless I hit the lottery, then staying somewhere fancier.

Booked a twin room for 2 people, expecting a standard setup, but got a room with a double bed and two bunk beds – more like a family hostel room than a proper hotel setup.||The bathroom had a broken lock, so the door couldn’t be closed properly. The shower holder was also broken and couldn’t be adjusted, which made showering awkward. There were no basic amenities in the room – no minibar, no kettle, not even a complimentary bottle of water. For a rate of €370 for 2 nights without breakfast, this felt really underwhelming.||I pre-booked early check-in through the app (which stated 11:00), but when I arrived at 09:45, the very “friendly” front desk staff told me early check-in only starts at 11:30 ... Even lockers for luggage storage came with an extra charge, just to leave your bags for a few hours 😂||To be fair, the location is good, the bed was comfortable, and hot water worked fine – but that’s where the positives end. Overall, this place has the feel of a budget hostel, not a €185-per-night hotel.||Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re desperate for a central location and don’t care about comfort or service.

You may not get a ton of space or frills like you would in a big hotel, but if you're traveling through and don't need much, this place is every bit of what you need. Single rooms with private bathrooms and showers are always a must. Good water pressure and fairly comfortable beds. Would stay again if traveling solo

Yelp
The Urban House Copenhagen Hostel officially became part of the Meininger Hotel portfolio on 1/1/2017. This 218 room hotel was previously operated by Paradox AB. There is about 1,000 beds in the 218 rooms, spread out over 5 floors in 4 adjacent buildings. The room types range from standard double rooms, to private rooms with multiple beds, to a bed in a dormitory. All public spaces including lobby, lounge, quiet room, cinema room, restaurant and bar as well as guest kitchen and games room are located on the ground floor. We had the private room family room with 4 beds and a private bathroom. There are no frills or thrills in the rooms themselves, after all it is a hostel. The room we booked was located on the 4th floor. Doors are unlocked by a keycard. There are 3 decent sized lockers can fit back packs and maybe a small carryon suitcase in the room next to the door which you can lock up (bring your own lock). Under the bunk bed there is also small lockers for personal belongings which you can lock up as well (bring your own lock). The windows open for fresh air, but be careful not to fall out as there is no screens. I do not believe there is any air conditioning, but for heating there is a furnace and you can control the amount of heat that comes in by turning a knob. The bathroom was clean and provided the essentials. They do cleanings if requested, but we didn't ask for a cleaning, just fresh towels about half way through our 6 night stay. Like most hostels, this hostel offered plenty of shared lounge areas including a TV room with a couch, a shared kitchen and dining room. This hostel also has a bar and a cafe that opens for breakfast for a small fee (we did not try). There is fee WiFi that worked fairly well and was enough to stream videos and upload all my pictures and videos to social media without issues. We had no issues while staying here and felt safe. They have a security guard in the lobby during the evenings/nights. They do hold activities in the evenings such as live bands, dancing, etc the bar/cafe area. The walls of the room are not particularly thick, so you tend to hear the neighbors talking. The morning we were planning on checking out, there was a false fire alarm. Everyone filed into the lobby or outside. There was a slight confusion initially on whether it was a false alarm or not, but the fire department did come and was cleared to return to the rooms about 30 minutes or so later. Overall, we were pleased with the Urban House by Meininger (we have stayed a few Meininger properties during our travels through Europe and like staying with them). The location is the best part about this hostel (outside of the price, about $480 for 6 nights). It is located about 1.5 blocks from the Copenhagen Central Train Station and the Metro lightrail is about 2 blocks away for easy/quick access to transportation. There is a 7-Eleven around the corner so you can pick up a few things and snacks. It borders the Chinatown area so there are a bunch of Chinese restaurants nearby. Tivoli Gardens is only a short 5-10 minute walk as is the Tivoli Food Hall (lots of eateries to choose from). Grocery stores are also a 10-15 minute walk. The City Hall is about a 15 minute walk which leads to the beginning of the Strøget Shopping District. If you are spending some time in Copenhagen and are on a budget for hotels, don't mind some noise, don't mind meeting new friends and want to stay in a convenient location with easy access to transportation and attractions, you can't go wrong staying here. Tip: If you arrive before check-in (3pm) and want to store your luggage and start exploring the city or if your plane is later in the afternoon/evening after checkout (11am) and you want to do more exploring , you can lock your luggage in their lockers. It is all activated electronically and payment is through a credit card. Minimum time is 3 hours, cost is a little over $2 USD.
