The Best Hotels in Copenhagen, From a Boutique Urban Retreat to a Repurposed Brewery

"Best Copenhagen hotel for: design aficionados Opened in 2019, design-led Audo fits perfectly into the up-and-coming Nordhavn neighborhood on the northern edge of Copenhagen developing from its origins as a port to become a design-centric residential, work, and lifestyle enclave in which design studios and cafes are transforming its heritage buildings to retain the warmth and soul of the area. Bjarne Hansen, who is also behind Menu design company, created The Audo in collaboration with Norm Architects and the cofounder of Kinfolk magazine, Nathan Williams. Behind the original dark-orange façade of a former trade house, this impeccably designed and styled space now encompasses a 10-room hotel, cafe, fine dining restaurant, and concept store, all centered around an amphitheatrical staircase, in which all items of decor can be bought through the hybrid design concept. Generously sized, residential-style accommodation including suites, studio suites and a penthouse continue the design concept of the rest of the property and come with a careful curation of complimentary minibar items, breakfast in The Audo Salon, and use of bicycles for exploration of Copenhagen using The Audo’s own City Guide. Summer 2022 saw the opening of this design concept’s new fine dining Restaurant Hâidan serving the 18-course tasting menus of Palermo-born chef Gabriele Rizzo, fusing Chinese and Scandinavian culinary traditions. The room’s view is amazing, but the bed doesn’t have a privacy curtain. The locker for storing things is kind of tiny, not even enough to fit luggage. However, the shower and toilet are spacious and are cleaned every day, which is good! They also provide a kitchen area that feels like an industrial kitchen. We met lots of friends there while eating, which was fun. There were so many kids too, which made the place more lively.

Everything was smooth from pre arrival to check in… the staff are excellent! Room was small but perfect for me regardless. The hotel maintains a high standard of cleanliness which is commendable. The location is great, right next to the train station and also an easy walk to different places. Luggage storage is useful for a hassle free last minute walk around the city after checking out. The only downside is the floors… if you’re a light sleeper it’ll scare you a bit when people walk on the corridors at night. Other than that, 5⭐️

I enjoyed my stay here. I was in the 6 person female dorm and came as a solo traveler. The room itself was nice and clean, and I appreciated the towel being included. I’d read this before booking, but the layout of the 6 person room is very odd with two single beds very close to each other. I wasn’t in one of these beds but feels very awkward if you don’t know the person. Otherwise, the two sets of bunk beds were nice and I felt like I got good value for my money. Felt safe as well and great location. Staff were friendly. Laundry service is nice to have and wasn’t crazy expensive. The shower in the room is small, but not a big deal. Would recommend!

The staff were very nice. Micaela kindly gave us an early check-in, which we truly appreciated. The location is excellent, near the main shopping street. Definitely recommend! Things to note is you have to pay to leave ur luggage there. But if you are not going anywhere you can just leave it in hotel while resting in the public room. They have arcade games, tv, couch &sofa, and kitchen to use while waiting for check in.

Loved my stay at Urban House. This was my first solo trip and first time staying at a hostel so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was happily surprised. I stayed in a 12 bed mixed room which I really enjoyed, everyone I met was very friendly and it was easy to find people to explore the city with. I didn’t find it particularly noisy at night, it wasn’t difficult to get to sleep. There was a bathroom/shower for this room which was clean and always accessible. Under the beds there was drawers for keeping your belongings which you can use your own padlock on. They have lockers in case you want to store your bags before you check in. The social areas and kitchen always had people around to chat with and everyone was very approachable/easy going! Downstairs at reception there was plenty of seating also. Location is excellent, very near to the train station and central. Pretty much all the major tourist attractions are within walking distance. This was the first of many hostel stays to come, highly recommend for people travelling solo who might want to make some buddies along the way :)

The place is perfect for people who traveling with budget:) The hotel is in the center of the city, really close to the train station and other attractions. I stay in a female dorm and it was clean, it has nearly everything I need. The staff are super friendly and supportive, I arrived at 3am and the man called Tee still welcome and support me a lot which also made the experience more comfortable! Highly recommend

We had a great experience at this hostel. We booked a private room for two people for one night. It was clean, the bed was comfortable. It wasn't very noisy either, we barely heard anyone else come or go. I would definitely book with them again. The front desk staff member we spoke to was very friendly and helpful in finding local places to eat.

Overall, our stay was good. The hostel is in a great location, easily accessible on foot or by metro, both from the airport and to the rest of the city. We stayed in a double room with a private bathroom, everything was clean, the heater worked well, the beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was cozy. The only downside was that the corridor floor was hollow, so from around 8 a.m. it got a bit noisy with people walking around, but nothing too disturbing. The common areas are beautiful and comfortable. However, the kitchen was under renovation during our first two nights, and we were only informed about this four days before our arrival. Because of the works, some common areas were quite messy and dirty, although things seemed to improve by the last day. The reception bathroom was also quite dirty the two times I tried to use it, so I ended up using only the one in our room. Despite the great location and comfort, the staff were not very friendly or welcoming. Most of them seemed uninterested or annoyed when asked questions, including (I believe) the manager, who ignored my attempt to discuss the kitchen situation and just replied that everything was already operational. Overall, it’s a place with great potential, good facilities and an excellent location but it would benefit greatly from better cleanliness and a more approachable staff.

Yelp
The Urban House Copenhagen Hostel officially became part of the Meininger Hotel portfolio on 1/1/2017. This 218 room hotel was previously operated by Paradox AB. There is about 1,000 beds in the 218 rooms, spread out over 5 floors in 4 adjacent buildings. The room types range from standard double rooms, to private rooms with multiple beds, to a bed in a dormitory. All public spaces including lobby, lounge, quiet room, cinema room, restaurant and bar as well as guest kitchen and games room are located on the ground floor. We had the private room family room with 4 beds and a private bathroom. There are no frills or thrills in the rooms themselves, after all it is a hostel. The room we booked was located on the 4th floor. Doors are unlocked by a keycard. There are 3 decent sized lockers can fit back packs and maybe a small carryon suitcase in the room next to the door which you can lock up (bring your own lock). Under the bunk bed there is also small lockers for personal belongings which you can lock up as well (bring your own lock). The windows open for fresh air, but be careful not to fall out as there is no screens. I do not believe there is any air conditioning, but for heating there is a furnace and you can control the amount of heat that comes in by turning a knob. The bathroom was clean and provided the essentials. They do cleanings if requested, but we didn't ask for a cleaning, just fresh towels about half way through our 6 night stay. Like most hostels, this hostel offered plenty of shared lounge areas including a TV room with a couch, a shared kitchen and dining room. This hostel also has a bar and a cafe that opens for breakfast for a small fee (we did not try). There is fee WiFi that worked fairly well and was enough to stream videos and upload all my pictures and videos to social media without issues. We had no issues while staying here and felt safe. They have a security guard in the lobby during the evenings/nights. They do hold activities in the evenings such as live bands, dancing, etc the bar/cafe area. The walls of the room are not particularly thick, so you tend to hear the neighbors talking. The morning we were planning on checking out, there was a false fire alarm. Everyone filed into the lobby or outside. There was a slight confusion initially on whether it was a false alarm or not, but the fire department did come and was cleared to return to the rooms about 30 minutes or so later. Overall, we were pleased with the Urban House by Meininger (we have stayed a few Meininger properties during our travels through Europe and like staying with them). The location is the best part about this hostel (outside of the price, about $480 for 6 nights). It is located about 1.5 blocks from the Copenhagen Central Train Station and the Metro lightrail is about 2 blocks away for easy/quick access to transportation. There is a 7-Eleven around the corner so you can pick up a few things and snacks. It borders the Chinatown area so there are a bunch of Chinese restaurants nearby. Tivoli Gardens is only a short 5-10 minute walk as is the Tivoli Food Hall (lots of eateries to choose from). Grocery stores are also a 10-15 minute walk. The City Hall is about a 15 minute walk which leads to the beginning of the Strøget Shopping District. If you are spending some time in Copenhagen and are on a budget for hotels, don't mind some noise, don't mind meeting new friends and want to stay in a convenient location with easy access to transportation and attractions, you can't go wrong staying here. Tip: If you arrive before check-in (3pm) and want to store your luggage and start exploring the city or if your plane is later in the afternoon/evening after checkout (11am) and you want to do more exploring , you can lock your luggage in their lockers. It is all activated electronically and payment is through a credit card. Minimum time is 3 hours, cost is a little over $2 USD.
