Hank's organic got me by surprise. Been wanting to try this place since it is honestly the only organic supermarket in the Art District area. I found out that they have a breakfast bar and decided to go for their brisket and egg breakfast . The quality of the meat was perfect. I don't really like scrambled eggs, but these definitely tasted delicious . I give this dish 10 out of 10. coconut latte 8/10. There is also an outdoor sitting area, which was really clean and spacious plenty of sitting space for approximately 30 to 40 people. There's also plenty of parking and EV charging spaces. The service was 10 out of 10. Everyone was extremely helpful. Got to meet the manager and he very patient with me considering I had a lot of questions with their food menu. I believe Instagram also made them popular with their $30 ribeye lunch special, which is a huge portion of ribeye steak that includes two sides.

I saw this place on instagram then completely forgot about it, but somehow ended up here by happenstance. There was a guy with a grill and he was about to close up, but said I could be the last customer. So I went inside and perused the menu and saw a steak. I wanted to give the ribeye a try so I got that with a few sides, which were couscous and a caprese. The grill guy put the steak on the grill and went to work. When he was done, he asked me if I wanted A1 sauce with it. I said yes. I know all the steak connoisseurs out there would hate my answer for that, but they don't understand how a simple sauce could bring back so much nostalgia. Nostalgia of spending time at the dinner table with grandma and grandpa eating together. Those memories overcame my soul as I ate the rest of the steak and I may have shed a tear, considering how long it's been since they've been gone. I love them so much and I had an opportunity to relive a moment with them. The steak was cooked well and the sides were good. It's kinda nice eating out on a patio too so the ambiance was great, and the service was amazing all around. It's a great place to get a full steak ribeye meal for $35!

Have you ever known something to be true, yet you are still surprised when it happens? And I don't mean that you are surprised by the standard that is expected. You are surprised by a twist in the known tale. I am talking about the discoveries that we know are coming yet when they arrive we are still left in wonder and warm-awe because in some way they are different in a distinct way. Like, when we walk a scary maze we know we will be horrified by a creepy or crawler or knife wielder. But then we get spooked, in a super new way, by a ghoul- perhaps a Popeye mutated by toxic and radio-active Spinach- and we know new jolting fear because Popeyes eye is open and it is colored pus green and his tattoo anchor is now a quasi-cleaver, perfect for gut harvesting. I wrote about a maze and went deep into the metaphor, hopefully, dear reader, you can follow me in and out because all I was trying to say was that Los Angeles is my city, and I know it has wonders I yet have to discover, and I did discover a new wonder- Hanks's Organic Supermarket- and I was happy that I did. I tried to draw a parallel to finding a new haunt in a maze that delights. The parallel was probably not good since I had to explain it. And as you know, a joke is not funny, if you have to explain a punchline, and thus a parellel does not offer insight if the moral has to be brought to the forefront of consciounness. I was in a nearby Sound-bath and I was too in the Zen, to drive,. My knees were in quiet space so I forced them to walk a few feet to this supermarket. I wanted some food and I had seen, as I was driving, that this place offered a prepared food section. I have had mixed experiences with prepared food sections. The food from Whole Foods, especially their chicken salad, one of them is a joy. But other prepared food sections from major chains, have food that is heaped on cafeteria style, and offers basics for consumption but not joy. I also experienced something akin when I was in college in the dorms cafeteria. But you know not all dining can be an epiphany in every spoonful. As I approached the counter I felt the potential ick of food that was not going to fill me with joy. I ended up ordering Brussels (a staple in most of my composed dishes) cilantro rices, chicken meatballs, and mash. Everything seemed to be cooked on the premises with care and was displayed in medium serving plates or other vessels that held their contents with dignity. I also ordered a tres leches to make the meal composed I sat outside their patio. The patio- as many places in the Arts district- was an industrial garden. THE structure was sleek and aluminum, maybe steel, maybe something else, with green accents all around. It was a mix of modern and old, of earth-given, and human made, it was the ying and yang of our world-- what is natural and was is made, and together it was a proverbial oasis from city noise and pace. I sat and enjoyed my meal thoroughly. The chicken meatballs had a sweet glazed and a crispy exterior that was gentle in its crisp, no crunch was heard, but taste was there. The rice was cilantro, and the mash had lumps with some cheese and when you encountered those mash bites, I was thankful that I was surprised, a new by my city of promise. The brussels were sweet and crispy. It was the best food I got, from a market that sells premade food. So good in fact that I would describe it as restaurant quality, with the restaurant being a decent place worth praise. It is weird to imagine that I had a nice sit down lunch in an industrial garden that was made possible by the space and fare of a supermarket. But when you remember that this place is in the lux blocks of LA's Art District the surprise becomes a bit for understanding, and frankly, familiar.

The avocados toast is addicting and their juices are so Fresh. A little pricey but worth iit.

Hank's is what Whole Foods prepared food wishes it was. This is the perfect spot for lunch. First, they have prepared foods ready for takeaway. All of the items are prepared fresh throughout the day. I chose the chicken teriyaki which was bomb, my friend got it too and agreed the chicken was really delicious for pre-prepared food. I also got the Korean broccoli and that was SO GOOD. I can't recommend it enough! 9.5/10. It's tempura fried with a delicious sauce. You have to try it. I also got the cilantro rice, but that was just bland and greasy. I got it before I saw the other prepared cold salads. They also have a cold prepared food section which has poke, amazing salads, amazing pasta salads. You can also order several deli sandwiches and they'll make them for you. Or you can order off their grilled menu and wait for them to prepare it on the grill (they have someone outside actually grilling your food). It's not crazy overpriced, my meal was $13.20 altogether. There are more expensive options, but keep in mind everything is organic. The man who rang up my order was super friendly and patient. I already talked to my friend about what I want to order the next time we go!

Hot bar here is really good. However, today I found a hair in my food and that is very disgusting.

How I feel sitting at Hank's is how I would like my entire life to feel all of the time. I'm headed to the Chromatic exhibit next store and I just wanted to grab a snack prior. I walk into a store that is basically Erewhon's cooler older sister and I felt at home. I wanted to eat everything on display but for this first trip I went with the beef brisket and carb sides. They asked me how I was doing and we talked about the show I was headed to. I'm indecisive and they helped me pick out the mousse as my sweet treat and made me a fresh squeezed orange juice. I wish every afternoon was like this. Whenever I come to the arts district for an exhibit I'm walking into Hank's for a plate. Also, the outdoor patio is a perfect place to sit. This is my spot now.

I went to Hank's Organic and had a pleasant experience. I got the fruit ice creams and they were good and refreshing recommend lemon. The service was good and they were really helpful. The ambience was really nice and pleasant. Would go again.

We visited the store after eating dinner nearby as we have many times before. I was with my wife and 4-year-old daughter and another family, two parents and their 4-year-old son. As we shopped around the store, we noticed the security guard constantly eyeing us all and watching us everywhere we went. We didn't end up buying anything, our friends bought an item or two. As we were exiting, the security guard asked to check a plastic bag I was carrying. Then asked to also check my backpack. Then asked to check our friends' bags as well. We felt a bit targeted and embarrassed. We're not sure why other people weren't stopped as they exited. And to go through ALL our bags even when he was constantly watching us. You would think two families with children wouldn't need to be watched or even considered as potential criminals but... There we were. Suffice it to say, we won't be visiting the store again.

This is my 3rd time at Hanks. I really wanted to love it here They have failed me consistently. I just paid $30 for 2pcs of brisket, broccoli and mashed potatoes This is one of the pcs of brisket I just paid for a blob of fat

LOVE LOVE LOVE Hank's Organic! The people who work at Hank's are terrific. The quality of food is great. Excellent smoothies and prepared food. Fresh produce. I don't shop at Erehwon but Hank's is my "special place!" Look for the sales! They are making an effort to help make it more affordable.

May 2023 / Downtown LA: After attending an Art Opening on the same block, Hank's Organic caught my eye! My friend & I stopped by to see what it was all about! Several recognizable health food brands, as well as plenty we had never heard of! The fun packaging, fresh fruit and vegetables, a deli and just plenty to see, we enjoyed walking around the store! Customer Service: When we were grabbing a few items to take to the counter, we noticed that they had been closing! However, not once did they rush us or even tell us that they were in the process of closing, so sweet! Thanks again for being so kind! Overall: Hank's Organic has a variety of great products, and customer service is really sweet! I also enjoyed the kombucha drinks, as well as the ceremonial Matcha tea! If in the area again, yes, I would stop by, keeping in mind, though, their prices are a little bit higher!

27 days ago I was wrongfully accused of shoplifting and detained by a security guard who doesn't speak English and claimed the manager was watching me on camera when later, manager Miguel D. gave a completely different story, saying it was someone he was "training" but refused to give a name. Since then, Miguel has approached me asking me to take down my review instead of taking accountability. Most recently, he wore Meta Ray-Bans with cameras during the conversation -- extremely invasive and unprofessional. Today was the first time I returned since my traumatic experience to make a purchase and immediately Miguel D. approached me and asked if I would speak with him and almost tried to pull me aside from the line where I continue to check out and left. He cares more about these reviews than actually his customers, so I felt that it was appropriate that I write another review and my last one because I will never be returning. Be cautious if you come here: this place is not safe or transparent.

Recently I went into Hank's to buy a drink, I quickly noticed the security guard was watching me and following me through the aisles. After I paid for my drink the security guard approached me to check the bag I came in with. I asked why because he was following me the whole time, the cashier said that he was just doing his job but the security guard did not ask anyone else to check their bags as they left. Then the manager Miguel pointed to pictures of alleged shoplifters saying a lot of people steal but to me it felt like he pointed to the pictures if I look like them. This is very disappointing, I have worked in the neighborhood for years and have been going to Hank's often, I felt targeted and hurt by these series of events.

just had the worst chicken caesar wrap of my life. shit was so soggy all i was able to eat was the chicken i picked off from the wrap. 14 dollars for some B.S.

Amazing gem with so many delicious and healthy options, it's like a mini Whole Foods but better!

A convenient organic grocery store in Arts District. The food and produce here is great. They have everything from produce, ready to eat food to great selection of beers and wine. My favorite item they have is the house made guacamole, it's perfect and seasoned so well. Everyone working here is friendly. I do think everything is over priced but there is not really alot of grocery options around the area so I will definitely go back because of the convenience.

I had a wonderful experience at Hank's organic. The staff were helpful and nice. The food was delicious and everything was made with the best ingredients. The prices were a little high, but that's to be expected when you're paying for better quality food and ingredients. My wife and I visited Hank's for the first time on a Thursday October 10th and we were blessed enough to come on the promotional day in which their fresh pressed juice was buy one-get one free. The juices were all delicious and definitely hit the spot. I got the Papaya, Orange and Pineapple and my wife got the Soursop juice. We also got 2 additional juices of our choosing for free. When we walked in we were greeted by wonderful smells and the ambiance in general was welcoming and friendly. I appreciate the hospitality and customer service as well as the top notch ingredients. We also liked the fact that everything we looked at as far as their fresh hot and cold food was not made using canola, vegetable or other harmful oils. We also enjoyed the salmon and kale meal I forget what else was in it but it was truly delightful. I've been to other health food types of places and the vibe wasn't welcoming and the food wasn't as good ingredients wise. Upon checking out there was a little mix up and we almost didn't get our 2 free juices but the staff and personnel cleared it up very quickly and allowed us to proceed back into the juice section to get our 2 free juices. I would definitely recommend this place over certain places that I am not going to name because I rather say nothing at all than to say something that isn't nice. So instead of shunning a negative light on those other places I will simply say that I enjoyed my trip to Hank'a Organic and will definitely return soon with my wife and son. Thanks again for the hospitality and great food and welcoming service!

Like a mini whole foods in an area of nothing, a little pricy but understood given the location. Thank you for existing.

I've been a customer at Hank's Organic since they first opened, even during their early days when business was slow. I've spent an exorbitant amount at the store, despite the higher prices and occasional issues with product quality, including moldy items. I was also a regular at the previous grocery store, Urban Radish, and I've lived in this neighborhood for over a decade. However, the exchange I had with an employee yesterday left me feeling extremely disappointed. During my visit, I was there with my wife and toddler. We spent about $60 on groceries, and I realized I had forgotten to grab sweet potatoes, so I went back to the counter to purchase them. In the midst of managing our toddler, we accidentally missed a small bag of cheese in the stroller's carriage, as well as a spice jar. As we were trying to place our toddler in the stroller, an employee approached my wife, rummaged through our stroller, and pointed out the two unpaid items. While this was unexpected, I went to the counter to pay for the items and apologized, explaining it was an honest oversight. What followed was shocking: the employee warned me to "be careful" because I might end up on their "thief wall," which I had previously noticed displayed photos of people who had allegedly stolen from the store. After all our patronage, I was absolutely stunned to be treated this way--especially since we hadn't left the store & were more than willing to pay. No customer, especially one who has supported a business, should ever be treated this way. I've tolerated product issues and high prices out of loyalty, but being accused of theft over an honest mistake is where I draw the line. Suffice it to say, I will not be returning, and I urge others to consider how they value their customers.

I like to stop by at Hanks for a quick bite to eat. They have really good assorted food options in the back of the store. You need to try the teriyaki broccoli. It's a little on the expensive side but if you want to eat healthy, it's a good choice.

First time there the store was clean, well organized therefore welcoming the staff was nice and friendly, I was in and out of there in no time. Food seems very fresh and the cashier didn't wast any time in assisting us and a very warm smile. We plan on going back and trying their food.

I used to shop at Hank's Organic and befriended some of the former staff members but I stopped shopping after most of them told me about the abuse and racist remarks that they would witness and would have to endure from the male supervisors. That's not all though, according to many former employees they don't receive their tips which is VERY much illegal, and would get reprimanded by the male supervisors if they dared ask for their tips. I would suggest you stop tipping if you decide to still shop at this store, or better yet just shop at other stores that know how to rightfully treat and respect their employees.

Hank's is convenient due to the location but a little overpriced as expected. I wish they had freshly made sandwich options instead of so many burgers. With that being said I'll still come here on the days I don't feel like making it over to WF.

Excellent service, great staff and amazing food! I got an oat milk iced latte with the Tuscan chicken sandwich. Both items were amazing, the quality of food was so fresh and the service was overall a great experience. The store manager Miguel was so welcoming and friendly, very engaged in making sure we were well taken care of. The store was so organized and clean as well as so many options to choose from!

First the bad ... when you order food to eat on their patio, they will not give you a cup of water. The most basic act of hospitality is to give a person water, but Hank's Organic cannot bring themselves to do even that. Makes you wonder where their heart is. The great ... until 6pm they grill food on their patio, and the man who operates that grill cooks the best hamburger in the Arts District. His excellent hamburger is the only reason I put up with Hank's Organic lack of hospitality when it comes to serving water. By the way, they'll give you a cup if you want to pour yourself a glass of water in the bathroom. Think that over for a bit and ponder the mindset of this store. The pretty good ... As far as groceries go, Hank's is pretty good. Above average for a smallish, urban, non-chain grocery store. Now how about serving patrons a glass of water when they buy food to eat on the patio? I'll even pay for the cup. That's fair.

While walking through the parking lot to Afuri Ramen, we discovered Hank's Organic. Tucked away in a parking is this oasis health food store and deli. They even have an outdoor eating area. The store is neat, clean and well stocked. We looked around and bought a few items not carried by Sprouts and Whole Foods. DJ's rating: 4.00/5.00 Would I come back? Yes. To check out their produce and deli.

Tagline: Organic at the right price. Reality: Almost nothing is organic, is insanely overpriced and is very low quality. I've come here multiple times over the last year as there is no other market in the arts district (the only reason anyone comes here). This place is best described as a broke wannabe Erewhon, but containing none of the good things about Erewhon. From a prepared food perspective, everything is bland and old. It's like you can tell they put out food that was cooked days earlier that didn't sell. Sandwiches are very meh...much better offerings in the area. The coffee tastes like it was burnt, and if you get a latte, the milk is scolded. Again, tons of coffee places in the area to scratch that itch. From a grocery perspective, they have a meager selection with most shelves being empty and a lot of the produce is spoiled, yet they continue to try and sell it (this probably is a health issue). They try to tell you that they are in it to support local farms, yet nothing is from local farms. All of the produce is from the produce market down the street. Example: the berries they carry are from Driscol farms...yes, the same one you find in Ralphs and every other supermarket bought from large distributors. Each time I've come, I discovered some of the produce I purchased was spoiled after getting home. Beyond that, some workers are nice, but others are very unpleasant and seem that they really dislike their job. Their 'Hank's Most Wanted' wall where they put pictures up of people who allegedly have shoplifted is literally comical! What kind of business does this, lol!?!?!! I say allegedly shoplifted because I know of a few people that the owner accused of shoplifting when the item missed, which was a few dollars, was missed by their employee. *Pro tip to owner*: when someone goes to pay for something, and thinks they paid for it, but didn't because your employee messed up, that isn't shoplifting. Now, the good news! Whole Foods is opening in the new Alloy building (that huge tower) down the street, so we will finally have a place for groceries and a real salad bar! Until then, I'll be ordering my groceries from Whole Foods as delivery is free and the product is consistent.

After a few bad experiences at Erewhon I recently, I decided to check out Hank's Organic. Hank's produce is beautiful, organic, and WAY cheaper than Erewhon or even Whole Foods. They also stock a good selection of teas, beverages, fruit salads, and they have a pretty nice deli. The cashier was incredibly nice and helpful. Also, it is worth noting you only have to give them a phone number to sign up for their membership program (unlike creepy biometric obsessed Erewhon). Upon signing up for Hank's rewards membership I was even offered a complimentary organic juice or coffee. This is an amazing little grocery store and I am very happy to have it nearby!

On my visit, I ordered Brisket combo, I was being charge 43 dollars. I was surprise and I asked the worker Daniel to reduce the amount and my final cost was a total of 34.28. Unfortunately once I got home and opened my order it's when it dawn to me, there was no advertised price for these items combo. In addition, reviewing the price tag of 34.28. It appeared to me I was being charged 15 dollars per pound. I immediately contacted the store and I requested to speak to the store manager. I spoke with Cecilia Ramos. I explained to her my concerns and the over priced combo. She explained the store charge 19 dollars per pound for the Brisket. Again, I said why wouldn't the worker measure the amount of Brisket first and then add the additional items. Her response was, "that would work in a perfect world." Her response was so unprofessional and now find myself writing this review. I will just stick with Whole Foods that is a few blocks west.

I wouldn't come here for staples, or produce. However, the design of the store, minimal layout makes it feel high-end. There are some specialty sauces and noodles I was looking for, but of course everything here is expensive. Excellent and friendly staff. A plethora of juices and fancy waters to choose from.

Everything I buy here has a strong scent to it. NO GOOD. This is a high-priced organic grocery store and no matter what I get it always has the same smell. Could be a cleaner or some kind of perfume/cologne, even the produce has the smell. I try to wash it off, but sadly it's stuck to everything, some glass bottles will come clean. It even gets stuck to my hands, just washed 3 times and can't get it off. The smell is so strong it makes me feel sick.

This place is a godsend! I come here every single day for lunch or dinner and the fresh cut fruit. They have an incredible selection of freshly prepared salads and hot meat and veggie dishes. It's very easy to eat here very low carb here. I've lost 15 pounds since I started coming here because I can eat healthily so easily. This is basically an erewhon / mini-Whole Foods in the arts district but not as expensive. And the service is sooo friendly! Highlights are the chicken teriyaki, chicken tikka masala, cilantro lime chicken (with salsa), orange chicken, egg white quiche, hot salmon, the turkey meatballs, the avocado white bean salad, Greek salad, blueberry walnut kale salad, curry chicken salad, shrimp ceviche to name a few!

Very difficult to research anything, online, about this entity! As an elder, in DTLA/Little Tokyo area, must know what is "there" before walking way over to the establishment. NOTE: to be fair, have NOT been to this place; the one (1) start rating is for not being able to get current info about who/what/etc regarding this "store."

Miguel the manager seems extremely busy! Literally every single time I called for assistance with locating a copy of my receipt , unsuccessful. Took down my information which he lost several times and no follow up. Poor management! Give me my receipt and let me ggo my way, causing such inconvenience to your customer. Not fair.

I sure love this place. Nicest and most helpful staff you could hope for, clean and beautiful space with high quality products, produce and a great grill (excellent) and take out bar. I really love Hanks!

I've been a customer for while and today I feel uncomfortable shopping there, as soon as I walk in the security was all over me following me each aisle that I go to it was so uncomfortable. It's shows shopping there is not safe.

Manager at this location working the food bar is a prick. If he is not happy working at this fine location he should quit. He has no personality and just has very bad energy. Not sure what his name is but I think it's Rafa. The food is great by the way and the employees very helpful.

Great healthy spot good Quality food I come here multiple times a week to pick up all my necessities. The deli is really fresh, the market has all your bohemian amazing soaps The grill is phenomenal 5 stars !!!

For an expensive neighborhood grocery that many of us in the area frequent due to being the only local option, the management cheapens the experience with their tasteless photos of shoplifters that nobody wants to see as they are shopping (there's a wall behind the main registers and now a tasteless photo printed out of the most recent individual stealing a beverage). The principal manager values having these printed out photos all over the store more than their customers. Meanwhile, the store lacks actual aisle signs of the various sections in their store and what's in the aisles. This is upscale grocery store and instead of having stealing signs, they should actually get useful signs on how to shop there.

Some of the best food I've ever had from a market. The steak was delicious and well seasoned, and both of sides I ordered which were the orzo and the couscous were very fresh and tasty. I also tried the special smoothie which was a concoction of nut milk, peanut butter, bananas and açaí and it was really delicious (reminded me of a PB&J) but it was a little on the small side for a $14 shake. We also tried the Blue Cheese Burger and it was delicious and made with quality ingredients, and a well grilled patty with a fresh brioche bun. The cost is a little pricey for a lunch from the market counter, however, that being said we thought it was very tasty and delicious.

I love Hanks. It's walking distance from my office, so I come by to grab lunch often. I usually go to the hot bar and get a combo. I'll get one piece of whatever chicken they have, and two veggie sides. I love their caprese salad, Korean fried broccoli and roasted Brussel sprouts the most. Those three are hands down my favorite veggie dishes from Hanks. Oddly enough because I've been grabbing lunch from Hanks, I've lost a little weight from choosing a more balanced lunch, lol. Thanks Hanks!

This family owned all organic market is actually top-notch when it comes to service. I called in to see what type of pastries were at the bakery today and they took the time to let me know what was available and hold my option for me while I walked over there. They've taken the time to call me back whenever I've phoned in questions. This personal touch service, while knowing that I'm eating organic and putting the best in my body while supporting a small business is a win / win! I know I can speak for all my neighbors and everyone that I know in the neighborhood we are so happy for this unique quality market to have entered our lives. My best friend even drives here from Santa Monica because they will price match any advertised price from a competitor. There really is no reason to not shop Hank's Organic! Also best deli in downtown LA !

Update: I've since blocked 4 different numbers that Hank's has used to spam me with unsolicited text messages and just got a new text from a 5th number today. Not only do they sign you up for this without your consent (shady), they also do not respect unsubscribe requests and propose let use multiple numbers to evade being clocked by the receiver. This is a unethical business model and seals the deal that I will never go back here again, or recommend it to anyone I know... Such a simple thing to avoid but businesses LOVE to be greedy and not respect customers privacy.

To the Sandwich Master who made my Farmer's Veggie Sandwich today at around 1PM; That was a tasty sandwich. Thank you very much. See you tomorrow for another. Thank you.

There are about three employees in the entire store that actually know what they are doing. The customer service at deli counter is a WHOLE MESS. If you just need a quick item, great but if you actually need help or something made bring your patience and prepare to wait an obnoxiously long time while watching a bunch of people just run around behind the counter doing absolutely nothing at all

My hopes were high but unfortunately, so are the prices. After Urban Radish closed, I was hopeful that whoever moved in next would actually have the staples I needed but unfortunately, not only is the selection minimal, the few things they do have are so overpriced that it's not worth the convenience. Furthermore, the meats & "fresh" fruit & veggies tend to be old or borderline expired and the entire place tends to either smell like spoiled food or bleach. It's also odd that the place is called Hank's Organic considering it's not all organic... I'd compare the pricing to Erewhon but at least Erewhon has a fun vibe.

This grocery store is prohibitively expensive, which is a shame because there aren't many convenient grocery stores in the neighborhood. However, there are tons of takeout options nearby and I don't know why anyone would choose to travel to and from Hank's, cook and then clean up, for more money and effort than what it would cost to get a quality meal delivered to your door. Hank's is basically empty every time I've been there which doesn't make a lot of sense because there is a gigantic apartment building across the street of at least 300 units.
