The 9 Greatest Peeing Statues Ever

"Artist David Cerny’s controversial sculpture, Proudy, consists of two bronze men who robotically waggle their metal junk around to spell out text messages with their pee.   Installed in 2004 in a quaint square outside Prague’s Franz Kafka Museum, the statue immediately made waves, so to speak. The figures are made of rippling, serrated bronze, looking as though they were crafted from stacked slices of metal, or like they were crudely 3D printed. This design choice works to integrate the swiveling crotch sections of the two men. Each of the figures is holding their bronze penis and peeing in a never-ending stream, swirling it around in a seemingly random, if surprisingly fluid (pun intended), pattern. But there is a method to their madness, as the figures are programmed to spell out Czech literary quotes with their pee streams, as though they were writing their name in the snow. And that’s not all. In fact anyone in the world can interrupt their constant quotes by sending their own message via text message to a number (+420 724 370 770) on a plaque near the statue.  The statues will interrupt their programmed movement and spell out the words sent to them. While it might be hard to look away from the swaying metal genitals, the basin the figures relieve themselves into is itself worth noting, as it is shaped like a map of Czechia. These guys aren’t just peeing into a fountain, but onto the country itself. Provocation achieved." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

After my visit to the unforgettable Hanging Umbrella Man, I was genuinely excited to see the infamous Pissing Men! Forget polite, gilded fountains Prague is home to the most irreverent, unapologetically cheeky duo in all of Europe, courtesy of notorious Czech artist David Černý. This isn't just water play; it's a slow-motion, bronze ballet of male figures, hips rotating mechanically, diligently spelling out quotes into a pool shaped like the Czech Republic. These two bronzed beefcakes are more than just a laugh. They're a brilliant, subtle, and slightly sarcastic comment on national pride and public life. They’re deliberately defiant, openly mocking the rigidity of the traditional public monument while literally taking the piss out of stuffy art history. What makes them truly engaging? The sheer, unblinking commitment of the act. Their hips swivel, their bronze faces are frozen in concentration, and they manage to be simultaneously absurd, crude, and conceptually genius. It's a fantastic, slightly juvenile way to inject some humor into a beautiful, historic city. If you appreciate art that's not afraid to be a little bit naughty and a lot thought-provoking, you'll love watching this magnificent hydraulic display. Pro Tip: This landmark is located in the courtyard of the Franz Kafka Museum in Malá Strana. The best part? It's right next to Prague's worlds narrowest alley a great two-for-one stop! Also, you can sometimes text a message to a specific number, and the statues will spell your text out in the water! Now that's personalized public art.

An amusing statue to visit if you are in the area, an interesting place to spend some time and also near the narrowest street and a gorgeous gingerbread shop. The statue is interactive and interesting but wouldn’t necessarily recommend going out of your way to see it! But a good thing to see if you are visiting the lesser town area

The statues are exceptionally captivating, and the narrative surrounding the original sculptures is quite compelling. The unexpected animation and movement of the figures significantly enhanced the overall experience, making the visit particularly worthwhile and glad I did not miss them.

Just in front of museum of Kafka, after enjoying the narrawest way , a funny fountain of David Černý provocative called “Piss.” Two bronze men face each other, urinating into a basin shaped like the Czech Republic. Their mechanical hips and phalluses move, spelling out words and messages in the water — even texts sent by visitors. At first it looks like pure shock-art, but it’s also sharp social satire: men literally “pissing” on the nation, poking fun at politics, nationalism, and Czech society itself. Some find it hilarious, others tasteless — but nobody forgets it. Like much of Černý’s work, it’s bold, absurd, and makes you leave both amused and thoughtful.. I recommend all to visit it

Well that's a piece of a vulgar and controversial art that's also apparently able to write messages that are sent via SMS, however we didn't test that. The fountain apart from is controversial value doesn't really make an impression, so you just come take a picture and go.

What a fun sculpture, the peeing contest. I even like how they left the water run dirty to have a yellow tint to it, just like real life 😂

Really fascinating sculpture! Right in front of the Franz Kafka Museum (literally next to Prague's narrowest ally) the men's hips rotate every few seconds by electronic devices. Such creation by artist mind!

This is one of the most famous statues in Prague. Popular bucket list location amongst tourists. Entrance is free. This is a great piece of art that shows two men urinating facing each other. This is located closer to famous Lennon wall and narrowest Alley. Have a stop over in this location on your next trip to Prague.
