"Perched on Loch Ness’s banks, Urquhart Castle is a toothy, time‑steeped ruin that remains a prerequisite visit for anyone touring the lake and its mythology." - Mike MacEacheran
Excellent castle to visit. It is in ruins but has been restored so that you get a good feeling how it was through different ages.
The area is beautiful and of course it’s on the Loch. A must visit for history fans.

We have visited twice in the last 10 years. Each time has been amazing.
This time we couldn’t visit when we wanted too as we couldn’t get parked, so we booked first thing in the morning on the next day.
You should watch the movie (accessed from the shop) before walking out to the castle. It gives an overview of the history and also has a surprise at the end which really makes you gasp. The film is showing its age a little but worth it.
The castle is well maintained and very clean. It was nice to walk down the loch and I got some great photos.
Would recommend to visit here when in the area.

Went there on 9-1-25 on a cruise. The castle is about 1000 years old and it is right next to the shores of the loch Ness. We didn't see the monster but where it's at is very beautiful. They show a 10 minute video of the history of the castle. Nice place to explore. A little bit of walking down a hill then walking back up is good workout. Definitely cool place.

If you like history and ruins this is a place for you. I do recommend that you buy your tickets on line before you go. The parking lot is for the ticket holders. We did not buy our tickets beforehand so, we were not allowed to use the parking lot. We had to turn around and park in another lot. The walk back to the castle and entrance took us around 25 minutes up a hill. The surrounding landscape scenery is pretty. It has a very nice cafe, gift shop and restroom. We bought our tickets at the gate on a weekday. We did not have to stand in any lines. There is a paved walkway for those who need assisted walking devices, and stairs up to the castle walls. We were there for about an hour walking around through the grounds and gift shop. Ask the person at the ticket office how to pronounce the castle name correctly. It is pronounced differently than the way it is spelled.

Excellent experience except for the crowds. The Visitor Centre is informative, with a small museum, video, clean toilets, a cafe and extensive gift shop. The castle has educational signs around it and is well laid out. However, management could do a better job limiting the crowds, which made it somewhat unpleasant.

Urquhart Castle ruins on the shore of Loch Ness was a very interesting stop on our tour. It's picturesque and its history is well documented. You take a boat to get there and the approach is quite impressive. You should be able to get some wonderful photos.

Such a great castle with an amazing view in the Loch Ness.
I recommend to see this one rather than doing a cruise. The history of the castle is really interesting too
Book in advance, parking kinda small

Amazing views of loch ness. The castle is well preserved. You can go down and touch the loch. The boat trip that departures from the castle is a great add on
