"Feeling Like a Dignitary Located on the 7th floor of the U.S. State Department, the 42-room Diplomatic Reception Room collection is used by the Secretary of State, Vice President, and Cabinet members to sign treaties, hold summit meetings, and entertain world leaders and dignitaries. Visitors can tour seven of the rooms, including the Franklin Dining Room, where the carpet is so large, it had to be brought in by crane. But the coolest part is viewing the incredible display of over 5,000 objects of early-American fine and decorative art from 1750 to 1825 such as an original Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, the desk where Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, and John Jay signed the Treaty of Paris in 1783 ending the American Revolution, Thomas Jefferson's desk where he drafted the Declaration of Independence, and a silver bowl made by Revolutionary War patriot Paul Revere. Free tours are offered Monday-Friday at 9:30am, 10:30am, or 2:45pm. Call at (202) 647-3241 or reserve online at https://receptiontours.state.gov."

Criminally unhelpful and incompetent. It's impossible to get a coherent set of answers surrounding the passport application process from any number of people working at this agency. Maybe if the department of state subjected their prospective hires to the same nit-picking scrutiny as they do ordinary US citizens trying to use their services, they might resemble a half-functioning organization. The Department of Government Efficiency will have a field day with this circus of an entity.

The citizen customer experience with the State Department and their Passport Agency has been abysmal. Even having sent every document 12 weeks early and paying for expedited shipping ($250+?), we could not get our passport in a timely manner. We also had to pay $50+ because of their internal issues to mail more documents and pictures to them. Our tax money is not being spent judiciously in this system. Happy to provide further details. Best wishes.

Lost my passport, birth certificate, and social security card, prompting my loss of secure residency status. They throw their hands up and say "oh well, things happen", but don't offer us the same consideration when postal delays and their server outages lead to missed deadlines. If "things happen", they happen to everyone and the regulation should reflect that.

I applied for my passport for the very 1st time. I was told there was a backlog and to hang tight, it would come. I applied in April, and now it's October. I decided to call to check the status, and they advised me they mailed it in July to the wrong address!!! Not only did they send my passport to the wrong place, but also my birth certificate as well. And since it's been over 90 days since it was sent, they want me to start all over again and pay all the fees again! I didn't lose the passport, they did! Why do we have to have passports if they don't even check your address to make sure it's correct? Unbelievable. Now I have to worry about someone stealing my identity.

I have to say this is the most evil and awful government agency I have dealt with. My visa was submitted for SAO for over 4 months and I can't imagine it take anymore than 5 mins to process. My spouse is under urgent medical condition and they don't bother to expedite. Avoid DOS at all cost if you can, they are basically a blackhole.

Finding yourself needing a reason to be angry at the government? Deal with this Agency/Bureau/Department. God awful. They send me a defective passport book and passport card (the picture was rotated 20 degrees and my ear was chopped off). I follow their process and sent it back immediately. The replacement is MEANT to be free. You would think they would expedite corrections because they f'd up. Nope. They want the individual to pay again to get a passport on time. That's not right. This entire department nationwide is incompetent and crooked. Ineffective at doing the basics of the job of the department.

Someone here in executive leadership needs to take a serious look at reforming the blatantly broken passport application process. It's absolutely absurd the hurdles a lifelong, tax-paying citizen of this country has to go through to get a simple status update regarding an expedited passport renewal application I paid extra for and that was received over 5 weeks ago. No one at the call center(s) you employ can give a single bit of information beyond what I can look up for myself online. No appointments are available within the next two week at any of your 26 locations across the entire country. Leave it to our government to do a simple task as humanly (sorry, robotically) inefficient as possible. Glad to see my tax dollars going to pay people full time salaries so they can do online shopping instead of their jobs.
